Abass Baraou said: “I worked hard to become European champion but I will have to work harder to keep the belt.  I want to keep it and show my levels.  I am putting pressure on myself to put on a great performance.  This is a great opportunity for McGowan but I have other plans.  I want to prove to the world how good I am and show my levels.  You are going to see a great performance.”

Macaulay McGowan said: “I am going to make the most of this opportunity – I am missing a Taylor Swift concert for this!
“This will be a highly technical fight, but with a bit of war mixed in too.  To win the European title wold make all of the ups and downs in my career, worth it.  They don’t give European titles away so I know that Abass is a good fighter but there are things I will exploit and I can tell you that this fight is not going the distance.”

Kalle Sauerland said: “Friday night is the start of the Euros and here in Bolton, we have our own European showdown between Germany and Scotland in the ring.
“Abass Baraou is looking to cement his spot to fight for a win title but McGowan is a tough man with a great Rocky-type story.  A labourer by day, European title challenger by night, who is going to put it on Abass and go nose to nose with him.”

DRAMA SET TO SPILL INTO EXTRA TIME AS STACKED BARAOU MCGOWAN UNDERCARD CONFIRMED

The opening night of the Euros won’t just be about football on June 14 as ‘Extra Time’ kicks off in Manchester in a night of European Boxing live on Channel 5, in association with Ladbrokes, Numan and Infinitum. From the iconic Victoria Warehouse, European Champion Abass Baraou and Macaulay McGowan continue the Germany Scotland occasion at the top of a card guaranteed to bring fireworks.

Leading the support for the main event, one of Britain’s hottest prospects – ten time National Amateur Champion Dan Toward and unbeaten North East prospect Ben Marksby, looking to make it 10 wins from 10 fights.

There’s more title action, as ‘Ruthless’ Ryan Kelly has a score to settle against ‘The Bread Maker’ Gerome Warburton for the Commonwealth Silver Middleweight title. A fight between these has been talked about for some time, and with Kelly delivering a potential Fight of the Year last time out against Ioan Lutic, he’ll be confident of collecting the belt.

Ellis Price and Mikie Tallon make up an explosive card in Manchester as European fever truly takes hold of the sporting world.

Kalle Sauerland, Global Head of Boxing at Wasserman, said: “it’s European fever pitch! Abass Baraou is on his way to becoming one of the best Super Welterweights in the world. His performance in Telford against Sam Eggington, was fantastic and you can expect more of the same this time out in Manchester.

We’ve got a stacked undercard as well. Dan Toward, ten time national champion who will take another step up. Ben Marksby, still undefeated and looking like a fighter with serious potential. Plus a brewing rivalry between two top British fighters for the Commonwealth Silver title. This is what free-to-air boxing is all about!

The crowds up in Manchester are among the most lively in the world and we can’t wait to deliver for them again as we have done so many times before”

Tickets are on sale now via the link above as a memorable night in Manchester beckons, kicking the Euros off in style!
