ARGENTINE KO KING CHAVES FACES MADUENO IN LAS VEGAS

Alan Chaves will defend his WBO Latino Lightweight title against Miguel Madueno on Saturday April 25, at the BleauLive Theater at Fontainebleau in Las Vegas, acting as the co-main event on a card topped with the WBA World Heavyweight title eliminator clash between Jarrell Miller and Lenier Pero, exclusively live worldwide on DAZN.

TICKETS ARE ON SALE NOW STARTING AT $30 AT TICKETMASTER

Chaves (21-0 18 KOs) penned a promotional deal with Eddie Hearn and Matchroom earlier this week, and now the unbeaten Argentinian will be looking to impress in Sin City and move into position to land a world title fight, with the KO artist ranked #2 with the WBO, and top 15 with the IBF and WBC. The 25 year old made it four straight wins inside the distance in his last outing, a fourth successful defense of the belt, this time only needing one round to dispatch Pablo Vicente in October in Buenos Aires.

April 25 will be Chaves’ first fight in the States, and the task in front of him is Mexico’s Madueno (31-4 28 KOs). The 27 year old has mixed in great company, with his last two bouts seeing him take on Oscar Duarte and Keyshawn Davis, and ‘Explosivo’ will be looking to spoil Chaves’ big night and add to his own impressive KO stats.

“Signing with Matchroom is a crucial step in my professional career,” said Chaves. “I’m highly motivated and eager to make a name for myself in the world of boxing. I’m very grateful to be part of the world’s number one promotional company.

“It’s going to be a tough fight. Madueno is a very experienced and dangerous opponent who has fought against some big-name boxers. I’m in the best shape of my life—both physically and mentally. As always, I’ll give it my all in the ring, and I have no doubt that I’ll come away with the victory.”

More additions to the undercard are confirmed today, starting with former Team USA World Championship medalist Freudis Rojas Jr fighting for the first time in just over a year, as he takes on Damian Sosa over ten rounds at Super-Welterweight. Rosas Jr (15-0 11 KOs) will be on home turf in Las Vegas for the clash, where he last stepped through the ropes last March over eight rounds and now the 27 year old plans to get back on track for major honors, starting with his clash with Sosa (26-3 13 KOs) who took now-unified 154lb king Xander Zayas the distance.

“One way is back and ready to take a step closer to becoming a World champion,” said Rosas Jr.

The night starts live on DAZN with ten rounds of action at Super-Bantamweight between Angel Barrientes and Isaac Rojas. Barrientes (14-1 9 KOs) won his first ten round bout in July, securing a stoppage with 30 seconds left of his battle with Jorge De Jesus Romero, and now meets unbeaten Mexican Rojas (18-0-1 12 KOs) who fights in the States for the first time, in his first ten rounder.

“Fighting in my hometown of Las Vegas, in front of my people, on a big stage like DAZN, is going to be amazing,” said Barrientes. “I know Isaac is undefeated for a reason, he’s coming in hungry, but so am I. I’ve put in a serious camp, sharpened every aspect of my game, and I’m ready to show a new level. April 25 is my time to shine. This is my city, and I’m coming to give the fans a performance they won’t forget.”

Before the live action on DAZN, three unbeaten talents look to impress in the prelims. ‘The Sin City Sicilian’ Phillip Vella (5-0 2 KOs) is swiftly back in the ring after appearing on the Navarrete-Nunez undercard in Arizona in February, and he faces Edwin Rodriguez (12-10-3 5 KOs) over six rounds at Bantamweight, Indian Olympian Nishant Dev (5-0 3 KOs) tastes his first action of 2026 after picking up a fifth win in the paid ranks in December in Ghana, and he’ll take on Juan Carlos Guerra Jr (6-2-1 2 KOs) over eight rounds at Super-Welterweight, while the first bout of the night sees 19 year old Jorge Ruiz (3-0 2 KOs) meet Harley Laws Jr over six rounds at Featherweight.

Duarte vs. Madueño Set for WBA Continental Americas Super Lightweight Title Clash

Fireworks are expected in Anaheim as Oscar Duarte and Miguel Madueño square off this Saturday, February 15, with the WBA Continental Americas Super Lightweight Title on the line. The all-Mexican showdown will headline a stacked Golden Boy Promotions card at the Honda Center, featuring rising talents, including standout Darius Fulghum.

Duarte Looks for Redemption

This marks Duarte’s second shot at WBA gold. In 2023, he stepped up against Ryan García for the WBA Gold Lightweight Title but fell short, suffering a knockout loss in Houston. Now, the Chihuahua-born puncher (28-2-1, 22 KOs) is determined to bounce back and claim his first WBA belt. Duarte currently holds the No. 9 spot in the WBA’s super lightweight rankings and knows a statement win could propel him into the title conversation.

Madueño Aims to Reignite His Momentum

On the other side, Miguel “El Explosivo” Madueño enters with the chance to capture his second WBA title. Last year, he edged out Justin Pauldo via split decision to claim the WBA Continental North America Lightweight Title. However, his momentum was halted in July when he suffered a unanimous decision loss to the highly regarded Keyshawn Davis. Now, after an eight-month layoff, the Sinaloa native (30-2, 28 KOs) sees this fight as the perfect opportunity to get back on track.

A Knockout in the Making?

Both fighters bring serious power to the ring. Duarte has finished nearly 80% of his wins by knockout, while Madueño boasts an incredible 93% KO ratio, with 28 stoppages in 30 victories. However, Madueño has hit a rough patch, dropping three of his last seven fights.

With two Mexican warriors known for their heavy hands, this main event is shaping up to be an all-out war—and don’t be surprised if it ends before the final bell.

Miguel Madueño Training Camp Notes

LOS ANGELES, CA (February 12, 2025) – Camponovo Sports’ super lightweight contender, Miguel “El Explosivo” Madueño (31-1-0, 28 KOs), is set to take on Golden Boy Promotions’ Oscar Duarte (28-2-1, 22 KOs) in a high-stakes showdown on just 10 days’ notice. The 12-round main event will be broadcast live on DAZN from the Honda Center in Anaheim, CA, this Saturday February 15, 2025.

Having just arrived in California, Madueño shares his thoughts on his training camp, the challenge of facing Duarte, stepping in on short notice, and more.

Arriving in California

“I just arrived in California this past weekend, and from the moment I touched down, it’s been all about getting locked in. The adjustment has been quick, but as I mentioned before, I stay ready at all times. My team and I have been putting in the work, sharpening up the game plan, and making the most of every session. I feel strong and confident heading into fight night.”

Matchup with Oscar Duarte

“Duarte is a tough, aggressive fighter who comes forward with power, but I’m prepared for that style. I also like to come forward, making this a fight the fans will want to see. I respect what he brings to the table, but I know my own strengths and what I’m capable of.  This is going to be a battle of two Mexican warriors, and I’m ready to give the fans an exciting fight.”

Taking the Fight on 10 Days’ Notice

“This is the kind of opportunity I train for. Some fighters hesitate when they get a call like this, but I don’t. I stay in shape, I stay ready, and I believe in myself. Short notice or not, I’m stepping in with full confidence that I can get the job done.”

What a Win Means for My Career

“A victory over Oscar Duarte will be huge for my career. It gets me back in the conversation in the super lightweight division and gives me a shot at even bigger fights. This is my chance to prove myself, and I’m ready to make a statement on fight night.”

MIGUEL “EL EXPLOSIVO” MADUEÑO STEPS IN TO FACE WORLD TITLE CONTENDER OSCAR “LA MIGRAÑA” DUARTE IN A MÉXICO VS. MÉXICO BRAW

ANAHEIM, Calif. (Feb. 6, 2025) – In a newly announced main event, world title contender Oscar “La Migraña” Duarte (28-2-1, 22 KOs) will face a newly installed opponent, Miguel “El Explosivo” Madueño (31-3, 28 KOs), in what could become an all-out Mexico vs. Mexico brawl. Madueño steps in for the previously announced former two-time super lightweight world champion Regis “Rougarou” Prograis, who sustained a shoulder injury. The new main event is scheduled as a 12-round super lightweight bout for Saturday, Feb. 15. The event is presented in association with Cancun Boxing and Camponovo Sports, and will be broadcast worldwide on DAZN.

“It’s a shame that Regis Prograis was injured. As I said before, I was very happy to face a fighter of that level, a former world champion, and I hope he recovers soon,” said Duarte. “Despite the change of opponent, I do not lose motivation. I remain focused and prepare at 100%. I set a goal for myself, and I am not going to stop until I achieve it—to be world champion! I see that Miguel Madueño is a good fighter and very dangerous. I am going to fight smart to win this bout. I must not lose sight of the fact that he is an experienced boxer, and fights between Mexicans are guaranteed to be a good show. I am grateful to Golden Boy for this great opportunity!”

“As we’ve seen in the past with Mexican warriors, this will be a war inside the ring on Feb. 15,” said Chairman and CEO Oscar De La Hoya. “We applaud Miguel Madueño for accepting this challenge against Oscar Duarte. This main event will be even more explosive with two knockout artists, and I fully expect both to give the fight of their lives as they have everything to prove inside that ring.”

“In this sport, you never know when that call will come—that’s why I stay ready,” said Madueño. “This isn’t an easy fight, but that’s exactly why I do this. Boxing isn’t just what I do; it’s who I am. I live it, breathe it, and right now, I’m hungry to get back in the win column. Oscar Duarte is a tough challenge, and I respect him for taking me on as a late replacement. But I’m not going to Anaheim to test my luck—I’m going to win. I’m going to fight, throw everything I’ve got, and prove that nothing great happens without taking your best shot.”

“We are grateful to Golden Boy and DAZN for this incredible opportunity and extend our best wishes to Regis Prograis for a swift recovery from the injury that sidelined him from this event,” said Alex Camponovo. “Stepping up on short notice, Miguel ‘El Explosivo’ Madueño embraces yet another tough challenge—something that has defined his career through grit, heart, and a relentless pursuit of the toughest tests. I commend him for betting on himself against a formidable opponent like Oscar Duarte. With both fighters possessing explosive knockout power and a passion for toe-to-toe action, fans at the Honda Center and those watching from home can expect nothing less than an electrifying showdown.”

Oscar “La Migraña” Duarte, of Parral, Chihuahua, has made his mark in boxing as one of the toughest world title contenders in the lightweight division. Known for his hunter-killer instincts and defensive skills, he is unafraid to engage any fighter. His only career blemishes are a loss to Adrian Estrella in 2019—which he avenged with 11 straight knockout victories—and a defeat to knockout artist Ryan Garcia in December 2023. His most recent win was a masterful performance on the “Latino Night” card in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, where he defeated the resilient Botirzhon Akhmedov. Duarte turned professional in 2013 and has incredible Mexican star power behind him, with award-winning actor, model, and television host Gabriel Soto co-managing his career alongside Cancun Boxing.

Miguel Ángel Madueño Angulo, known by his ring name “El Explosivo,” is a Mexican professional boxer from Sinaloa, Mexico. Madueño has built a reputation for his formidable punching power, with an impressive 28 victories coming by knockout—giving him a knockout ratio exceeding 80%. He made his professional debut on Jan. 27, 2017, securing a first-round technical knockout against Luis Fernando Aguilar. Throughout his career, he has competed primarily in the lightweight and super lightweight divisions. Notable victories include wins over Juan Huertas, Luis Munoz Duran, and Manuel Martinez. His most recent bout was on July 6, 2024, when he faced Keyshawn Davis and suffered a unanimous decision loss. Despite this setback, Madueño continues to train and compete, aiming to further his career in the boxing world.

Stevenson (21-0, 10 KOs), a three-weight king and one of the sport’s pound-for-pound elites, hopes to turn away Harutyunyan (12-1, 7 KOs), a 33-year-old who captured Olympic bronze for Germany at the 2016 Olympics. Stevenson-Harutyunyan tops a special four-fight telecast.

O’Shaquie Foster will defend his WBC junior lightweight world title against Brazilian Olympic gold medalist Robson Conceição in the co-feature, and lightweight contender Keyshawn Davis will take on Mexican puncher Miguel Madueño in a 10-round special feature. This is what the fighters had to say at Wednesday’s press conference.

Shakur Stevenson

“This place is very special. I appreciate my fans. I appreciate everybody that comes out to support in Newark. And we’re going to put on a show.”

“I really want to talk about him. I’m not falling for that. You’re trying to act real humble and butter me up and act like you’re not really coming here to win. No, you’re coming here to win, bro. I already know. He doesn’t sound as confident as I thought he would sound. Hopefully, he’s coming to fight.”

“I’m going to take him to a level he’s never been on. I’m just going to be myself. I’m going to come out and show my talent and show my levels. I think I’m one of the best in the sport of boxing at hit and don’t get hit. There’s a certain way of doing that, and I want to show the fans that all that moving around is something I don’t really have to do. I can sit in the pocket and beat you up, too.”

Artem Harutyunyan

“I was born in Armenia, and I grew up in Germany. I’ve come all the way here to fight Shakur Stevenson in his hometown. It’s a big opportunity for me. I will do my best and give a great fight.”

“I came to Las Vegas last year. I was fighting Frank Martin. It was a great fight. I know Frank Martin knows he lost the fight. I told everybody that I would be back in the States. And now it’s happened. I’m back here.”

“It’s a great opportunity. I had a great training camp, and I’m well prepared. I’m ready for this fight. I know Shakur Stevenson is a good fighter. He is a world champion. We both fought at the Olympic games. He is a silver medalist, and I’m a bronze medalist. Now we’re fighting for the world championship.”

O’Shaquie Foster

“I just need to go in there and be me. That’s the biggest thing. I’m fully healthy. So, everyone is going to see a different fighter than what they saw the last time I came out.”

“I couldn’t do what I wanted in that fight {against Abraham Nova}. I couldn’t move my feet like I wanted. But, no excuses. I’m going to go out and show the world that I’m levels above this guy.”

“I’ve had a long amateur career, so I’ve seen his style several times. We had great sparring partners that mimicked him. I’ve always been proud of my defense, so we’ll figure it out when we get in there.”

Robson Conceiç?o

“Things in my career weren’t necessarily easy. As an amateur, I had three opportunities to become a gold medalist. I see a similar path as a professional. And on Saturday, I’m going to be ready.”

“I don’t look at these challenges as pressure. I look at them as motivation. So, I’m motivated, and I’m looking forward to this fight on Saturday. I’ll be the new world champion. No pressure. Just motivation.”

Keyshawn Davis

“It’s always special sharing a card with my brother Shakur. We’ve been doing this since we were kids. We’ve been talking about this since we were amateurs. Brick City loves me. It’s my third time coming here, so I expect the fans to embrace me again as I make that ring entrance.”

“I just need to do the same thing I’ve been doing. I just need to go out there, have fun and perform. He has a style that I’ve seen so many times, especially in the amateurs. When you travel overseas, you fight a lot of guys like that. Now that we are going 10 rounds, I can take my time and dissect this kid. I’m going to go in there and have fun and do what I do.”

Miguel Madueño

“This is a good opportunity. It’s an opportunity to show what we are made of. We’ve had some setbacks. But we’re ready to get back on track. And what better than facing a name like Keyshawn.”

“I’m going to walk away with my hand raised. We’ll be looking for the knockout. He is a great fighter. We’ve been watching and analyzing him. He’s spectacular. But on July 6, we’ll walk away victorious.”

Abdullah Mason

“My opponent has as many knockouts as I have fights. So, we’re ready for whatever he brings. He’s coming to win. He’s going to let his hands go. But we’re going to do our job like always.”

“We’ve just been focused. Training in the gym prepares you to be under those lights. So, we’ve been preparing. Every time we step in the ring, we’re preparing to step under those lights.”

Shakur Stevenson-Artem Harutyunyan & O’Shaquie Foster-Robson Conceição World Title Doubleheader Set for July 6 at Newark’s Prudential Center LIVE on ESPN

NEWARK, N.J. (May 7, 2024) — Newark’s three-division king is ready to defend his crown on native turf.

Shakur Stevenson will make the inaugural defense of his WBC lightweight world championship against Armenian-born German Olympian Artem Harutyunyan on Saturday, July 6, at Prudential Center in his hometown of Newark, New Jersey.

In the co-feature, O’Shaquie Foster will defend his WBC junior lightweight world title against Brazilian Olympic gold medalist and three-time world title challenger Robson Conceição.

In the 10-round lightweight televised opener, Keyshawn Davis will take on Mexican veteran Miguel Madueño.

Stevenson-Harutyunyan, Foster-Conceição, and Davis-Madueño will be broadcast live on ESPN, ESPN, Deportes and ESPN+ at 9 p.m. ET/6 p.m. PT.

Promoted by Top Rank, in association with Universum Boxing, tickets go on sale Wednesday, May 22 at 2 p.m. ET via Ticketmaster.com.

“There is a unique connection between Shakur and the City of Newark, and we are thrilled he’s returning for another hometown appearance against a tough opponent in Artem Harutyunyan,” said Top Rank Chairman Bob Arum. “O’Shaquie Foster does not shy away from the best opposition, and I know Robson Conceição is motivated to pull off the upset. And with Keyshawn Davis on the card against a rugged contender in Madueño, this is quite the tripleheader we have in store in Brick City.”

“To once again welcome back Top Rank, ESPN, and Shakur Stevenson for the third time in two years is a great honor for Prudential Center and the entire city of Newark,” said Dylan Wanagiel, VP of Sports Properties & Special Events for Prudential Center. “We look forward to hosting an unforgettable evening filled with history-making moments in the heart of New Jersey as Shakur takes on a formidable opponent in Artem Harutyunyan for the WBC Lightweight Title.  Following consecutive record-breaking events with Shakur headlining, we are excited to showcase the sweet science in our world class venue, further solidifying Newark’s reputation for marquee events around the world.”

Stevenson (21-0, 10 KOs) has won world titles in three weight classes during his seven-year run. After securing a silver medal at the 2016 Olympics, he made his pro debut in 2017 and swiftly moved up the ranks. He captured his first world title by defeating Joet Gonzalez for the WBO featherweight strap in October 2019. Two years later, he stopped Jamel Herring in 10 rounds to earn the WBO title at 130 pounds. The 26-year-old southpaw unified world titles by handing then-WBC champion Oscar Valdez his first loss in April 2022. Stevenson then claimed two consecutive victories at Prudential Center by defeating Conceição that September and stopping Japanese contender Shuichiro Yoshino in six last April. Hee outpointed Dominican puncher Edwin De Los Santos last November to become the WBC lightweight world champion.

Stevenson said, “It feels good to be going back home to Newark, where they appreciate a young legend, and to make my first title defense at 135. On July 6, Down Goes Artem!”

Harutyunyan (12-1, 7 KOs) captured an Olympic bronze medal for Germany in 2016. He started his pro career the following year and went 12-0 in his adopted country with triumphs over Samuel Molina in September 2021 and Humberto Galindo in June 2022. Last July, he made his U.S. debut in a competitive showdown against Frank Martin. The 33-year-old had success with his aggression and right hand, though Martin rallied late to win a narrow unanimous decision. Harutyunyan will have his first world title shot against his second consecutive southpaw rival.

Harutyunyan said, “I respect Shakur Stevenson as a champion, but I’m coming to shock his hometown fans and win the WBC lightweight championship. This is the opportunity of a lifetime, and I will take full advantage of it. This will be my second fight in the U.S. I’ve learned and progressed since my loss to Frank Martin.”

Foster (22-2, 12 KOs) had a distinguished amateur career with more than 100 fights and an alternate spot in the 2012 U.S. Olympic team before entering the paid ranks later that year. He encountered two early-career setbacks, including a split decision defeat to Rolando Chinea in July 2016. He returned more than a year later with renowned trainer Bobby Benton and has since gone 12-0. Last February, he won the WBC world title with a points verdict over two-division world champion Rey Vargas before a dramatic 12th-round knockout win against Eduardo “Rocky” Hernandez in October. The following month, Foster signed a long-term promotional deal with Top Rank. He returns after securing a well-earned split decision over Abraham Nova in February.

Foster said, “I’m excited to be back for my third title defense. Conceição is a great opponent who has been in the ring with a lot of top fighters, but come July 6, we will be ready. I will keep proving that I’m one of the best fighters in the world.”

Conceição (18-2-1, 9 KOs), Brazil’s inaugural Olympic boxing gold medalist, turned pro in November 2016. His only losses have come against unbeaten world champions, including a close decision against then-WBC champ Valdez in September 2021. Following the setback to Stevenson, Conceição’s June 2022 showdown against Nicolas Polanco ended in a no contest. He followed up by challenging three-weight world champion Emanuel Navarrete last November, rising twice from the canvas and battling to a majority draw. In April, he registered a seventh-round TKO against Jose Guardado in April.

Conceição said, “I’m really looking forward to this fight against O’Shaquie Foster. This title is something I’ve been aiming for a long time, and I’m not going to let this opportunity slip away. I can guarantee that I’ll give my best; I’ll leave everything in the ring. Blood, sweat, and dedication—everything will be invested in this title bout. I’m ready to face any challenge that comes my way. Let’s go all in towards victory! Brazil!”

Davis (10-0, 7 KOs), from Norfolk, Virginia, made a quick transition from prospect to contender. After going 3-0 as a pro, he earned a silver medal at the Tokyo Olympics. In November 2021, he inked a long-term promotional pact with Top Rank and has amassed seven wins since. In 2023, he stopped Anthony Yigit in nine rounds in April and vanquished Francesco Patera via 10-round decision in July. After his October win over Nahir Albright was overturned to a no contest due to a positive marijuana test, Davis returned with renewed vigor in February to dispatch former two-weight world champion Jose Pedraza in six. Madueño (31-2, 28 KOs) tallied a three-fight winning spree after a decision defeat to Jezreel Corrales in March 2022. The streak was halted by a points setback against Canadian contender Steve Claggett last November, but he bounced back quickly by decisioning Justin Pauldo in February.

Davis said, “Madueño is a tough fighter with more than 30 pro fights, and I have a lot of respect for what he brings to the table. I love fighting in Newark. The fans there are special, and I am going to feed off their energy and put on a show.”

Undercard action — streaming live and exclusively on ESPN+ — includes the return of 20-year-old lightweight prodigy Abdullah Mason and unbeaten heavyweight prospect Damian “Polish Hussar” Knyba.

Mason (13-0, 11 KOs) will make his third 2024 appearance in an eight-rounder against Puerto Rican veteran Luis Lebron. The Cleveland native went 5-0 with four knockouts last year before stopping Benjamin Gurment in two in February. He is coming off a fourth-round TKO win over Ronal Ron in April. Lebron (20-5-1, 13 KOs) has given stiff tests to Duke Ragan and Henry Lebron and stopped Giovanni Gutierrez in February.

Knyba (13-0, 7 KOs), a 6-foot-7 behemoth with an 86-inch reach, returns in an eight-rounder versus Richard Lartey (16-6, 13 KOs). He joined the Top Rank stable in January 2023 and scored a TKO win over Curtis Harper that April followed by decisions over Helaman Olguin in June and Michael Coffie in December.

Miguel Madueño Looks to Bounce Back Against Juan Huertas in Plant City this Friday

PLANT CITY, FL (November 3, 2022) – Thompson Boxing’s lightweight Miguel Madueño (27-1, 25 KOs), is looking to bounce back from the first loss of his career when he faces Juan Huertas (16-3-1, 12 KOs), on Friday, November 4th, at the Whitesands Events Center in Plant City, Florida. The 10-round bout will broadcast worldwide on ProBoxTV.com with the WBO Latino Championship on the line.

“I have had a great camp and made major improvements since my first career loss,” said the power-puncher Madueño, who has an 89% KO ratio as a pro. “In my last fight I didn’t feel like myself, but now I am ready to bring the old ‘Explosivo’ back. I will knock this guy out and put the division on notice.”

In Madueño’s last fight, he lost a twelve-round decision to former world champion Jezreel Corrales, in March of this year. Since that fight, Madueño has not missed a day in the gym and has used the loss as motivation.

“I wanted to be a world champion so bad and put a lot of pressure on myself to perform in my last fight,” said Madueño reflecting on his fight that had implications for a future world title shot. “I know now what I need to do, and how not to beat myself. I put myself in a position that made my last fight much harder.”

Huertas recently upset undefeated Jonhatan Cardoso in June of this year and is hoping for a similar result on Friday, but Madueño doesn’t see it happening.

“He is in a lot of trouble,” stated Madueño. “He has been knocked out twice, and I don’t see a way he can take my power at all. I am one of the hardest punchers in the division – when I hit him, he will fall, and he isn’t getting back up.”

“I’m ready to fight Huerta today,” said Madueno. “I can’t wait to get back in the ring and showcase myself. What better opportunity than this one for a belt and on a big platform. Huerta is tough, I know he is, but I will show the world that I’m tougher and better than him.”

“El Olimpico” Huertas (16-3-1, 12 KOs) from Panama City, Panama, represented Panama in the 2012 Olympics and made his professional debut on May 15, 2013.  In his last two fights, following a two-year pandemic forced hiatus, he won both via first-round stoppage. “Explosivo” Madueno (27-1, 25 KOs) is from Guasave, Sinaloa, Mexico, now residing in Orange County, California. Miguel Madueño Suffers First Lost to Jezzrel Corrales Vows to be Back

PANAMA (March 14, 2022) – This past Saturday, lightweight contender, Miguel “El Explosivo” Madueño (27-1, 25 KOs), suffered his first loss as a professional, losing a unanimous decision to former world champion, Jezzrel Corrales (26-4, 10 KOs), in WBA lightweight title elimination bout.

In what was considered an ugly bout, both fighters were deducted a point in round three for dirty fighting. Corrales was deducted two additional points, one in round one and another in round eight. Madueño did his best to apply pressure and cut off the ring against the slick style that Corrales was displaying but was flustered with the movement. Scorecards read 117-108, 115-109 and 116-108, all in favor of Corrales.

After the lost, Madueño feels he has a lot of things to work on and vows to be back stronger than ever.

“It wasn’t my night and I’m going to go back to the gym and work on all the things I know I can improve on,” said Madueño, who is promoted by Thompson Boxing. “Corrales was fighting dirty, so I had to retaliate with some dirty tactics of my own. It wasn’t my best performance by far, but I’ll be back with an improved version of myself. This is just a minor setback”

“Miguel had an off night and I know he’ll be back fighting at the championship level in the future.” said Alex Camponovo, Thompson Boxing’s general manager. “There are some things he needs to work on but I have confidence he’ll make the proper adjustments to become a more complete fighter.”

Miguel Madueño Training Camp Quotes

ORANGE, CA (March 9, 2022) – Thompson Boxing’s unbeaten lightweight contender Miguel “El Explosivo” Madueño (27-0, 25 KOs) is excited for the biggest fight of his career as he faces former world champion Jezzrel Corrales

(25-4, 10 KOs) in a 12-round WBA title eliminator. The main-event bout will take place this week at the Roberto Duran Arena in Panama City, Panama on March 12, 2022, on a “KO to Drugs” event, hosted by the WBA.

Here is what Madueño had to say about this recent training camp, his matchup with Corrales, fighting in his first WBA title elimination bout, and more.

On his recent training camp.

“This has been a great camp, in which I spent a large portion of this camp in the mountains, training hard and pushing myself to the furthest limits possible. This is the fight of my life, and the biggest fight of my career. I’m in tremendous shape and my timing has been spectacular in sparring. I am giving it my all, day-in, and day-out, to get the result I want come fight night.”

On his matchup with Corrales.

“He is really tricky and has been in the ring with some really good fighters like Chris Colbert and Alberto Machado. He’s got good boxing skills and I know exactly what I must do to stop his movement. I see myself as a world champion, an exciting fighter, and someone fight fans will be watching for years to come. This is the first step for me to show myself, my team, and Thompson Boxing the fighter I am, and Corrales is the type of fighter who will bring the best out of me.”

On fighting for a WBA lightweight title elimination bout.

“Everyone knows the lightweight division is one of the most exciting divisions with a lot of great champions that the fans love watching. I am looking forward to winning this WBA elimination bout which will allow me to pursue my dream of becoming a world champion. This will be my twenty-eight professional fight and it has been a long journey, but many fighters never get to fight for a world title, so to get there is a major accomplishment. I’m grateful to my promoter Thompson Boxing and the WBA for giving me this opportunity.”

On becoming Thompson Boxing’s next world champion.

“Thompson Boxing has groomed me to be a world champion and now I want to follow in the footsteps of Timothy Bradley, and Daniel Roman. They have been great to work with to me and I want to repay them by being the next world champion under their banner. It would mean a lot to have grinded with a group of individuals and then turn my achievement into a group achievement.”

Miguel Madueño to Fight in WBA Title Elimination Bout Against Jezzrel Corrales on March 12th

ORANGE, CA (March 7, 2022) – Thompson Boxing’s unbeaten lightweight contender, Miguel “El Explosivo” Madueño (27-0, 25 KOs), who is known for his explosive power and exciting fights, now has the chance of a lifetime as he faces former world champion Jezzrel Corrales (25-4, 10 KOs), in WBA lightweight title eliminator. The 12-round bout will take place at the Roberto Duran Arena in Panama City, Panama on March 12, 2022, on a “KO to Drugs” event hosted by the WBA.

The 23-year-old Madueño is looking to change his life forever as a win would put him in line to be a mandatory challenger for the WBA lightweight world champion, which is currently held by George Kambosos Jr. (20-0, 10 KOs), one of the biggest names in the sport.

“I want to thank my promoter Thompson Boxing for guiding my career in such a great way,” said Madueño, who is currently riding a 13-fight knockout streak. “They provided a way to get in me in a position to display my skills to the world. This is my moment, and I will raise to the occasion as I want to be Thompson Boxing’s next great world champion.”

“We have always believed in Miguel since we signed him, and this is what we love doing, putting fighters in the best position possible,” said Ken Thompson, CEO of Thompson Boxing. “Miguel is a true force in the lightweight division, and we are excited about getting him to a point in which the world can watch all of his fights against the top stars of the sport!”

“This is a great opportunity for Madueño, but we can’t overlook the opponent as he is a former world champion and the toughest fighter Miguel has ever faced,” said Alex Camponovo, Thompson Boxing’s general manager. “Madueño’s future could be bright but he has a tough test on the 12th that he must pass and we have all the confidence he is ready for the task.”

Miguel “El Explosivo” Madueño Remains Unbeaten Scores 11th KO in a Row

ONTARIO, CA (October 23, 2021) – Last night at the Doubletree Hotel in Ontario, CA, Thompson Boxing Promotions hosted their “New Blood” event with fans in attendance, a first since the beginning of the pandemic.

In the 8-round main event, lightweight slugger, Miguel “El Explosivo” Madueño (26-0, 24 KOs), defeated Jose Luis Rodriguez (25-15-1, 13 KOs), stopping him in the fifth round with a barrage of hooks to the head and body. The stoppage came after Madueño dropped him earlier in the round with the same type of punch combo. The referee ended the fight at the 2:46 mark of round five.

“I wanted to send a message to the rest of the lightweight division by stopping Rodriguez,” said Madueño. “He’s only been knocked out by a few guys, so it was very satisfying to get the victory by pounding him out of there. I’m grateful to my promoter Thompson Boxing for keeping me busy throughout this pandemic. When my name is called to fight for a world title, I’ll be more than ready, my time is coming.”

In the 8-round co-main event, two undefeated super bantamweight prospects collided, as Katsuma Akitsugi (7-0, 1 KO) and Eros Correa (10-1, 7 KOs), went to war, with Akitsugi wining a majority decision. In the early rounds, Correa was landing his over hand right, while Akitsugi was applying pressure. After an even first half of the fight, it was Akitsugi who made the adjustment, and flourished in the final rounds. Scorecards read 78-74 twice and 76-76.

“I knew Eros was going to be the toughest fight of my career, but I had confidence in myself that I would come out victorious,” stated Akitsugi. “This is the second undefeated fighter that I’ve defeated. I’m hoping with a few more fights, I’ll be able to get ranked or maybe fight for a regional title.”

In the second fight of the evening, Esteban Muñoz (5-1, 3 KOs), defeated Manuel Martinez (6-5-4, 3 KOs), by way of a first round knockout, in a super lightweight bout scheduled for 4-rounds. Muñoz landed a picture-perfect right hook to the midsection of Martinez’ body, sending him to the canvas. Martinez could not recover, and the bout was over at the 1:50 second of the opening round.

“I knew the fight was over when I landed that body shot,” said Esteban Muñoz. “There was a lot of power behind that punch and I was glad I got the knockout. I’m hoping I can get one more fight in by the end of the year, and finish 2021 off strong.”

In the opening 4-round super bantamweight bout, Lazaro Vargas of Coachella, Calif (4-0, 2 KO’s), defeated Ulises Rosales (0-5), of Tijuana MX, by way of a unanimous decision. Vargas was the aggressor throughout the fight as he landed a lot of power shots to the head and body. To Rosales credit, he withstood the pressure that Vargas was applying and held on to make it to the final bell in a spirited effort. Scorecards read 40-36 across the board.

“I’m happy that I got the win, and my opponent took a lot of punishment,” said Vargas. “I was hitting him with a lot of big shots, and he hung in there, so I give him a lot of respect for being a warrior. I got some good rounds in and now it’s back to the drawing board as I know I must improve in some areas of my game. I’m still learning and I’m getting better with each fight.”

Miguel “El Explosivo” MadueñoTraining Camp Notes

ORANGE, CA (October 19, 2021) – Fresh off a dynamic knockout victory on Triller Fight Club, undefeated lightweight power puncher, Miguel “El Explosivo” Madueño (25-0, 23 KOs), is scheduled to headline Thompson Boxing’s “New Blood” event on Friday, October 22, 2021, against Jose Luis “La Boa” Rodriguez (25-14-1, 13 KOs), in the 8-round main event.

Here is what Madueño had to say about this training camp, his matchup with Rodriguez, and more.

On his recent training camp:

“After my last win, which was a big KO victory over Sonny Fredrickson, I really wanted to stay in the gym and continue my momentum going forward. Anyone who knows anything about my career, knows I am a big puncher, but we’re working on other aspects of my game so that when I need it, I will be able to show it. I am excited for this bout.”

On his matchup with Jose Luis Rodriguez:

“He has fought a lot of good fighters like Ruben Torres and Antonio Orozco. I want to show what I am capable of by getting another knockout. I want to stop him since he’s been taking everyone the distance, and the last person to stop him was a world champion in Mario Barrios. So, my goal is simple, I want to knockout Jose Luis Rodriguez.”

On fighting in main event of Thompson Boxing’s New Blood event:

“Thompson Boxing has treated me so well. My career wouldn’t be where it is at without them being fully behind me, and now I am on the verge of a world title shot. I have a great record, a fan-friendly style, now it just comes down to performing time and time again. What is even nicer is now knowing they trust me to headline a card knowing fighters like Timothy Bradley Jr., Josesito Lopez, and Daniel Roman, have headlined cards for this same promoter. It means a lot, actually.”

On what a victory will do for his career:

“I want to be in the title picture, and I feel I have done enough to be a top-15 world-ranked fighter in the lightweight division. I think after this fight I will either be rated in the top-15 or people will start having conversations about me being in the top-15, and then I can get the type of fights that I want, and the fans want. So, a win will get me one step closer to my dream of being a world champion.”

“New Blood” will take place at the Doubletree Hotel Ontario, CA. Doors open at 6:30 pm PT with the first fight starting at 8:00 pm PT. Tickets are priced at $50, $75, & $100, and are available for purchase by calling 714-935-0900, or online at ThompsonBoxing.com.

Miguel “El Explosivo” Madueño Wants Everyone at Lightweight After KO of Fredrickson

HOLLYWOOD, FL (September 15, 2021) – Last night, Thompson Boxing’s unbeaten super lightweight knockout artist, Miguel “El Explosivo” Madueño (25-0, 23 KOs, entertained fans with a tenth round TKO over the always tough Sonny Fredrickson (21-4, 14 KOs). The ten round bout was part of TrillerVerz II at the Seminole Hard Rock Hotel and Casino in Hollywood, Florida, streamed worldwide on FITE.TV.

Madueño, who came out aggressive since the bell went off, put forth a sequence of action-packed rounds that made the experienced Fredrickson rethink his strategy. After some back and forth rounds Madueño lived up to his nickname and was able to get the stoppage in the tenth and final round at the 2:04 mark. With the win, Madueño is calling out everyone at lightweight.

“I want to thank everyone who believes in me and all the fans who enjoyed my fight,” said Madueño after the win. “This was the type of victory I needed to make a statement and get closer towards a world title. Moving forward, I’ll be campaigning at lightweight and I want to fight all the big names in that division, I don’t care who it is. No one will be able to handle my power. I’ll dominate anyone they put in front of me.”

“Madueño showed us that his power can be effective from the first round onto the last round,” said Alex Camponovo, Thompson Boxing’s general manager. ” Madueño fought a tough and gritty fight and showed the heart of a champion. We have high hopes for him moving forward and will discuss what is next for him. We believe he has what it takes to become a world champion.”

In a highly anticipated co-main event, Thompson Boxing’s Michael “The West Texas Warrior” Dutchover (15-2, 10 KOs), who is also co-promoted with Banner Promotions, lost via a sixth-round technical knockout when his trainer Danny Zamora called a halt to his bout against Philadelphia’s Nahir Albright (14-1, 7 KOs).

“I gave it my all, I am disappointed, but this is not the end for me, or my team,” said Dutchover. “I have no excuses, I felt great, it just wasn’t my night.”

Zorrilla stops Cano

Danielito Zorilla stopped Pablo Cesar Cano in round two of a scheduled junior welterweight bout at the Seminole Hard Rock Hotel and Casino in Hollywood, Florida

After a feeling out round one, Zorrilla landed a liver shot followed by an overhand right behind the ear for a combination that rocked Cano, who was unable to recover, earning Zorrilla the WBO NABO Junior Welterweight Championship.

Albright Stops Dutchover in 6

Nahir Albright (13-1) vs. Michael Dutchover (15-1) met in a super lightweight bout. Albright knocked Dutchover down once in the first round, once in the second and continued to control the action with his jab. Dutchover was knocked down again the third.

Dutchover’s face was bloodied in the fourth as Albright stepped up his output.  Albright landed a vicious combination at the end of the sixth that knocked Dutchover down for a three count. The doctor stopped the action at 2:59 for the TKO victory for Albright.

Madueno stops Frederickson

Undefeated Miguel Madueno (24-0) took on a very game Sonny Frederickson (21-4) in a super lightweight contest. Madueno controlled most of the action for the first four rounds, but by round five Frederickson found his rhythm and went from strictly countering to pressing the action.

In round six, Frederickson landed a few heavy bows to the head and body. Madueno was then penalized a point for holding. After more heavy trading on the inside in the seventh and eighth rounds, Madueno landed big shots and took control in the ninth, but Frederickson held on to make it into the final round.

Round ten saw an explosion in output and power from Madueno who had Frederickson dazed and wobbly enough for referee Sam Burgos to call a halt to the action at the  2:04 mark.

Gonzalez stops Karpency

Cruiserweight and Miami hometown favorite Yuniesky Gonzalez (20-3) took only  35 punches and one and a half rounds to end Tommy Karpency’s (30-7-1)  night with a beautifully placed body shot.  González continues to show power and promise  in his comeback run.

Miami’s undefeated Bryce Henry (4-0), super welterweight, dominated Juan De Angel and stopped him in the fourth round with a right uppercut/ left hook combination.

Dutchover is promoted by Banner Promotions and Thompson Boxing.

“In December I was supposed to fight, but I had an injury, and things happen for a reason. I am back in California training and am excited to get back in the ring. There is no place that I would rather fight than in Texas. I will have fans there from Midland and all over the state. This is my fifth year as a professional, and this is the year that I become a contender,” said Dutchover.

Benitez, of Cancun, Mexico, has a record of 14-4-1 with 6 knockouts.

Just 20 years old, Benitez is already a six-year professional. He has wins over two undefeated opponents and is coming off a draw with undefeated Francisco Javier Lopez Corrales (12-0) on December 8th in Mexico.

“I will have a difficult task ahead of me in fighting Dutchover, but May 28th will be my day. I will be prepared to give the fans a great show and to beat my opponent. This is what I work for everyday, and he will not derail my dreams of becoming a future champion,” said Benitez.

Seeing action in the 10-round co-feature will be heavyweight Isaac Munoz Gutierrez.

Gutierrez of Mexicali, Mexico is undefeated with a record of 12-0-1 with 10 knockouts.

The 29-year-old Gutierrez, who will be making his United States debut, was a former amateur star in Mexico and competed in the World Series of Boxing.

Najmitdinov, of Tashkent, Uzbekistan, has a record of 16-1 with 13 knockouts.

Najmitdinov is an eight-year professional who will be making his American debut.

Najmitdinov has been in several all-action fights, with a style that will appeal to the American audience. The only blemish on his record was a very disputed decision loss to former world champion Viktor Postol. That bout saw Najmitdinov go into the home country of Postol in the Ukraine, and Jamshidbek dropped Postol on two occasions and rocked him several other times during the fight, yet fell short on the judges’ scorecards.

Najmitdinov is coming off a first-round stoppage over Giorgi Khutsishvili on October 6, 2019 to win the WBC CIS Title.
