BITTER rivals Daniel Dubois and Nathan Gorman are finally in agreement…..both insist that Andy Ruiz has the tools to give Anthony Joshua a hard night.

Roly-poly Ruiz challenges Joshua for his IBF, WBA and WBO heavyweight titles this weekend, with many writing him off.

Gorman (16-0, 11 KOs) has been stung by criticism of his own shape with Dubois (11-0, 10 KOs) who he faces for vacant British heavyweight title at The O2, London on Saturday July 13, poking fun at him.

But peace broke out when the pair gave verdicts on the big fight at Madison Square Garden.

Gorman who has been branded “slobby” by Dubois says: “Ruiz is a typical Mexican. He gets in close, roughs you up, throws body shots, hooks and is very fast-handed.

“I am gonna back Joshua, but it wouldn’t surprise me if there is an upset. It wouldn’t surprise me because Ruiz can fight.

“I like the way he and Joshua fight. In my opinion it is a much better fight than Joshua against Jarrell Miller, miles better.”

Dubois also believes Ruiz isn’t to be underestimated when he meets Joshua in New York on Saturday night.

“I think it’ll be a good fight. I think Ruiz will give all he has got. He has nothing to lose,” said the rapidly emerging knockout artist.

“Joshua is the defending champion and it’ll be good while it lasts. May the best man win.”

Whoever wins the brilliant Dubois v Gorman match which is live on BT Sport will be closing in on the world’s best, while the loser faces a rebuild job.

“My main concentration is Daniel, but in the next 12 to 18 months I can get there,” added Gorman who admits it is hard not to think of becoming world champion.

NORMALLY meek Daniel Dubois has lashed out at the shape of bitter domestic rival Nathan Gorman.

The unbeaten pair clash for the vacant British heavyweight title at The o2, London on Saturday July 13.

Gorman (16-0, 11KOs) has shown that looks can be deceiving impressing with his speed and skills since turning professional under trainer Ricky Hatton.

There are plenty who believe the Nantwich man can shock Dubois (11-0, 10KOs), but the Londoner snapped: “He’s a big slobby looking fighter.

“He will never be entertaining. It is just the way he is. He will never be exciting to watch and it is what it is.

“I’m pretty cold blooded and that is me. It’s a hurt business and I enjoy it.

Londoner Dubois and Gorman have been enemies since they were both on Team GB in their amateur days.

Gorman claims they sparred up to 300 rounds and always had the upper hand during their sessions in Sheffield.

NATHAN GORMAN INSISTS he will render the judges unemployed when he makes his British title challenge against Daniel Dubois on July 13.

The young heavyweight giants collide at The O2, London on a card titled as ‘Heavy Duty’, which also features Olympic silver medallist Joe Joyce, who impressively demolished Alexander Ustinov on Saturday in Stevenage.

That Gorman is emphatically predicting a KO victory for himself might come as a surprise to some, who believe the 22-year-old to be the more technical operator who relies more on skill than bludgeoning power.

However, the protégé of Ricky Hatton believes the cards will not be called for once he and the KO artist from the Peacock Gym get down to business.

“I can’t say too much about what we’ve been working on in the gym but we’ve been doing a lot of things that will end up with you seeing a different Nathan Gorman come July 13,” revealed the 16-0 man, adding that a personal dislike between the pair could come into play.

“I think we will just get in the middle of the ring and throw bombs. He hasn’t got the style to jab and move and I want to punch his head in.”

DANIEL DUBOIS IS well aware that he has been viewed as the silent partner when it came to calling out for a fight against Nathan Gorman.

Gorman has been vocal in expressing a desire for the fight pretty much since his former Team GB teammate and rival burst onto the professional scene, notched up 10 KOs from his 11 fights and won five title belts along the way.

Dubois, with his typical reserve, has kept his counsel, got on with his job and bashed up everyone who has been put in front of him.

Gorman believes Dubois is the promotional poster boy for Frank Warren’s organisation, the chosen one tipped to reach the pinnacle of the heavyweight pecking order.

Well, Gorman intends to turn the ‘Heavy Duty’ blockbuster into an episode of Trading Places by knocking the golden boy off his promotional perch.

“Of course he is,” responded 16-0 Gorman to the question of Dubois being the young heavyweight face of the company.

“Listen, he is big, he’s got a nice big six-pack. I haven’t, so he looks good in photos. When I knock him off the perch I will take it from there and I will be No.1, I will be the golden goose.

“Until then I am happy to be the underdog, which I would imagine I will be.”

So why does the unbeaten and more experienced Gorman consider himself to be the outsider in the betting?

“People just write me off, they look at the way he is built and think ‘he looks handy’,” he explained. “If it was a bodybuilding competition he would win Mr Olympia, but it is isn’t. It is fighting and one thing I can do is fight.”

NATHAN GORMAN CONCEDES that he has been the chief protagonist and driving force behind calling for a domestic showdown with Daniel Dubois, a fight he says he first enquired about as soon as he turned professional.

Lineal world heavyweight champion Fury is firmly in the camp of his cousin Gorman and has been helping him in early stages of training.

Fury who is preparing to fight Tom Schwarz in Las Vegas on June 15 dismissed the claims of Groves.

Groves first spotted KO artist Dubois several years ago when he trained at his old amateur club.

He said: “I remember seeing Daniel Dubois in Dale Youth amateur gym. I look back and think; ’Why didn’t I go back in time and sign him’?

“He has so much more to develop and learn. He can become the best if not the best in the heavyweight division.

“He hasn’t put a foot wrong, but there is something about him and it’s a good thing –

It is like having a young junior who still looks boyish and you know what a handful he’ll be when he gets his man strength. It’s the case with Daniel.

“Dubois has phenomenal punch power, but I feel like the nitty gritty boxing skills and know-how will come with experience.

Recently retired Groves told the 5 Live Boxing Podcast with Costello & Bunce that the battle has Fight of the Year potential, adding: “I am happy for this fight because they are young enough for the loser to rebuild.

“It’s a good fight for both of them and the winner will go onto something else. They are both willing to put it on the line and it’s a real fight.

Unbeaten British heavyweights Nathan Gorman and Daniel Dubois will fight for the vacant British heavyweight title on what will be a huge night of boxing at The O2, London on Saturday July 13 live and exclusive on BT Sport. The card will also feature unbeaten Olympic silver medallist Joe Joyce MBE.

Just 21 and 22 respectively, Dubois and Gorman are recognised as two of the top young heavyweights in world boxing and the pair will now put their perfect professional records on the line with the coveted Lord Lonsdale belt at stake.

In a fight that bucks the trend of unbeaten boxers avoiding each other, Dubois v Gorman is the domestic heavyweight dust up that the fans have been crying out for. The O2, London is the place to be to watch it all unfold on July 13, a night of boxing that will be broadcast live and exclusive on BT Sport.

Dubois, for his part, insisted he had absolutely no reservations over accepting a marquee domestic encounter at this early stage of his development.

“As I have always said, whoever is put in front of me I have to go through them and that is what I have done so far.”

“As I proved in my last fight, I want to bring excitement to the heavyweight division for the fans and I promise it will be another explosive night on July 13th.

“I am very confident that I can knock anyone in the world out right now.”

Gorman, meanwhile, revealed his surprise that a fight that was tipped to take place at the end of the year or beyond has now become a summer showdown that he didn’t anticipate his heavyweight rival signing up for.

“I am very surprised, to be fair,” he confessed. “I was probably expecting it to be next year – in the summer time probably – and that is what I thought. When the phone call came it took me only a matter of seconds to say yes so it is nearly here now and only a couple of months away.

“I’m over the moon we’ve got the fight on. Fair play to Daniel, I didn’t think he would have accepted it, but he is obviously as keen as I am to fight. There should be plenty of excitement and a I’m sure the fans will love it.

“I can’t see it going 12 rounds and the plan is to go in there and stop him. The winner out of me and Daniel will proceed onto world honours, I’d imagine. The British title will propel you to the world stage.

“It is good for the fans to see the best prospects like me and Daniel fight each other. You can overcook a fight and I think we have now got it at the right time, I really do.

“Me or him didn’t have to take this fight, but why not? I believe it is the right time to make this fight.”

WHEN BT SPORT innovatively elected to wire up Nathan Gorman while he was on a scouting mission to assess the performance of his heavyweight rival Daniel Dubois at the Royal Albert Hall earlier this month, it probably wasn’t part of the strategy to have him sitting ringside right alongside the brother and sister of the young Londoner.

There was Gorman commentating on the pros and cons of Dubois’ destruction of his previous opponent Razvan Cojanu, while siblings Caroline and Prince were listening in intently, with the odd frosty stare thrown in for good measure.

Gorman was measured and typically articulate in his summing up of Dubois’s second round KO show, which is probably just as well given the company he was keeping in the adjacent seats.

The now 10-0 Dubois was unaware that he was being marked by a contemporary at the time and hasn’t, as of yet, been tempted to tune in to discover if he was favourably assessed or not.

“They told me about it afterwards!” said the 21-year-old with a chuckle. “It is what it is and we are all in together.

“I haven’t seen it myself but my dad told me about it. I have no need to see it, I know what I’ve got to do. I am just enjoying my training, enjoying my boxing and enjoying winning so I will just carry on doing that.”

The more reserved Dubois had no intention of returning the compliment and travelling up to Leicester to watch Gorman outpoint Kevin Johnson last Saturday.

“I don’t see the need to and will probably just watch his fights online or something. Right now I am focused on my date in April.”

Dubois makes a quick return to the ring at the SSE Arena, Wembley on April 27 when he takes on a dangerous mission against the 14-1 Ghanaian Richard Lartey.

Lartey has been the executor of 11 KOs across his professional career and, while Dubois accepts there are always perils when coming across a relatively unknown quantity, he backs his own ability to succeed in previously unchartered territory.

“There is always that possibility, but I know that my boxing skills and boxing brain is probably already superior,” he reasoned. “He will be a tough guy and anybody is capable of winning because until you knock them out they are always dangerous.

“I am approaching this fight the same as the others, but I am going to be a bit better this time than my last.

“This is what it is all about, I know what I have got to go in there and do on the night. It is all good for boxing, the interest and mystique around this guy and what is going to happen on the night is there, but I know what I’ve got to do.”

Daniel Dubois v Richard Lartey tops the bill at the SSE Arena, Wembley on April 27 on a card that also includes the Commonwealth super middleweight title fight between Lerrone Richards and Tommy Langford, as well as the Southern Area super middleweight title clash between Zak Chelli and Jimmy Smith. WBO European super flyweight champion Sunny Edwards and WBO European super featherweight champion Archie Sharp also feature.

Sam Bowen battered and bloodied Jordan McCorry en-route to a 9th round stoppage in their scheduled 12-round junior lightweight bout at The Leicester Arena in Leicester, England.

The time of the stoppage was 33 seconds of the 9th frame.

Bowen, 129 lbs is now 15-0 with 11 knockouts. McCorry, 129 lbs is now 17-5-1.

Nathan Gorman remained undefeated with a 10-round decision over former world title challenger Kevin Johnson in a heavyweight bout.

Gorman won by a referee’s score of 100-90, and is now 16-0. Johnson is 34-13-1.

Sam Maxwell scored a stunning 10th round stoppage over Sabri Sediri in the final round of their super lightweight bout.

In round one, Sediri floored Maxwell with a left hook. In round two, Sediri dropped Maxwell with a perfect right to the chin. In round three, Sediri began to bleed from his nose.

With his left eye nearly shut, Maxwell somehow landed a huge right hand to the side of the jaw that sent Sediri to the canvas. Sediri got to his feet, but was unsteady, and the bout was stopped at 2:46.

Maxwell was ahead on two of the three official scorecards.

Maxwell, 139 lbs of Liverpool is 11-0 with nine knockouts. Sediri, 139 lbs of France is 10-1-1.

In a battle of undefeated Leicester based super welterweights, CJ Challenger won a 10-round decision over Ky;e Haywood.

Challenger, 153 lbs won by a 97-95 score and is now 10-0. Haywood, 152 lbs is 8-1.

(March 21, 2019) — Two of Great Britain’s most promising young prospects will be showcased live in the United States on Saturday afternoon.

In the main event from Morningside Arena in Leicester, England, Sam Bowen will make the first defense of his British super featherweight title against Jordan McCorry. And, in the co-feature, heavyweight hopeful Nathan Gorman will fight former world title challenger Kevin “Kingpin” Johnson in a 12-rounder.

NATHAN GORMAN WILL now take on the venerable American Kevin ‘Kingpin’ Johnson at the Morningside Arena in Leicester on Saturday, live on BT Sport.

Heavyweight contender Gorman has, unfortunately, been victim of late withdrawals of opponents this week, while the veteran Johnson was also due to have his first fight of the year but suffered an opponent withdrawal.

They will now face each other and the match represents a return to the Morningside Arena for the 39-year-old, who fought in Leicester last year, taking Daniel Dubois the full 10-round distance.

Johnson, with 47 fights to his name and 34 wins, has a resume that features a ‘Who’s Who’ of heavyweight boxing, with him having shared a ring with the likes of Vitali Klitschko, Tyson Fury, Christian Hammer, Dereck Chisora, Manuel Charr, Anthony Joshua, Kubrat Pulev, Filip Hrgovic and Daniel Dubois with only Joshua forcing a stoppage in his 13th fight back in 2015.

Gorman can now look to return the compliment to Dubois, who recently stopped his last opponent Razvan Cojanu in the second round, by making a similar statement against Johnson, who forced the young Londoner to rely on the scorecards.

Since turning professional in December 2015, Gorman has become holder of the WBC International Silver title and is regarded as one of the most promising prospects in world heavyweight boxing.

Promoter Frank Warren has made it public that the 22-year-old is just a few fights away from a collision with fellow young heavy Dubois, with the fight expected to take place before the end of the year.

Both must remain in winning ways and the pupil of Ricky Hatton first has to overcome his American assignment.

“Probably the most durable heavyweight in the world is old Kingpin, isn’t he?” responded Gorman to news of his new opponent. “He seems to have been in with everyone so it only seems right that I should fight him too because it will be another experience and another style.

“I know I have been training for a different style and have only had four or five days to prepare for it, but it will be another box ticked.”

Gorman was fully intent on delivering a showreel KO in his first fight of the year, but realises the probability has diminished with Johnson being drafted in, but there remains the incentive of attempting to out-do his domestic rival.

“It will be very hard with him because he can be very defensive and only two people have stopped him. It will probably be a hard night’s work but only time will tell and I’ve just got to stick to my boxing and do the business. I need to get the win, first and foremost, and come out unscathed and healthy.

“Of course that is the aim to better the outcome of Daniel, obviously. I’m not going in there to do the distance and I want to get him out of there, but I’ve just got to let my boxing do the talking.”

NATHAN GORMAN IS wary of switching off on March 23rd when he takes on former UFC star and now 26-1 heavyweight Fabio Maldonado at the Morningside Arena in Leicester, live on BT Sport.

Facing the heavy handed Brazilian will mark the 16th fight of Gorman’s professional career, during which time he has become holder of the WBC International Silver title and become regarded as one of the most promising prospects in world heavyweight boxing.

Promoter Frank Warren has made it clear that the 22-year-old is on a collision course with fellow young heavyweight Daniel Dubois, with the fight projected to take place before the end of the year.

Both must remain in winning ways and the pupil of Ricky Hatton first has to overcome the toughest test of his career to date.

The 38-year-old Maldonado has recorded 25 KOs in his 26 wins since turning professional in 2002 while, at the time, combining a career in boxing with participation in MMA combat.

His MMA journey began in 2000 in his native Brazil before he was signed to the Ultimate Fighting Championship where he featured on 11 occasions out of his 38 fights in the Octagon.

The boxing career of Maldonado has been frequently punctuated by explosive KOs and 20 of his stoppages have come in the first or second round.

The only blemish on his record came in December of last year when he was defeated on points by the unbeaten Colombian Oscar Rivas, who went on to defeat Bryant Jennings in his next fight and is now regarded as a threat to the elite of the heavyweight division.

“What I know of him is that he is a Brazilian with a good record and has only lost once on points to Rivas,” reacted Gorman to his forthcoming challenge.

“Rivas is now a world contender and Maldonado also has a lot of knockouts on his record, so he is a fella who can punch a bit and, obviously, it is heavyweight boxing and you cannot switch off for a second.

“If you do that against someone with the knockout potential Maldonado has got, it could be the end of the fight.

“Ricky has had a look at him and we believe it is the right fight for my progression. That is why we have taken it. People thought I might start the year with a tickover fight, but do you really want them now I am 15 fights in? You are not going to get warm-up fights if you want to keep progressing.

“It will be good to start the year with a scalp like Maldonado, but he will be very tough and I have got to train for him like he is my world title fight. At the end of the day, if I don’t beat him then it is back to the drawing board.”

DANIEL DUBOIS HAS thrown down the gauntlet to Nathan Gorman by stating he will win by knockout against his heavyweight rival should a fight between the pair be finalised for later this year.

The pair’s promoter, Frank Warren, revealed earlier this week his intention to put the young heavies in together after a period of time where both are kept busy and public demand for the match increases.

Gorman has been the more pro-active in calling for the collision in interviews and across social media, while the more reserved Dubois has, for the most part, kept his counsel and simply pointed out that he will fight whoever is put in front of him.

The Londoner, who takes on former Gorman opponent Razvan Cojanu at the Royal Albert Hall on Friday, has now broken his silence on the subject and expressed a huge willingness on his part for the young heavyweight showdown to be made.

The fact that the Nantwich man is well ahead on points in the talking stakes has made no impact on the 21-year-old.

“Not really, it is boxing and I don’t get ramped up about stuff like that,” Dubois told Steve Lillis on The Boxing Podcast. “I have no emotion at all about it and we just have to wait and see.

“I am relishing that fight and I will take him on at any time. There is a time on it now so we can look forward to that.

“I definitely want it if we can make it this year,” Dubois insisted, before responding to a question on the likely outcome.

“A knockout win for me.”

NATHAN GORMAN BELIEVES a stoppage victory over Razvan Cojanu for Daniel Dubois at the Royal Albert Hall on March 9 might just prompt the Londoner to expedite a highly-anticipated encounter between two of the top young heavies in world boxing.

The Nantwich-based Gorman laboured a little in overcoming the tall and awkward Romanian in December and eventually prevailed via a convincing unanimous decision at the Manchester Arena.

Now it is Dubois’ turn to take the test against the former world title challenger and Gorman suspects a spot of one-upmanship will come into play when boxing returns to the spectacular South Kensington venue that could lead to a ‘down the line’ fight edging closer.

“It is a two-way street that fight,” explained the 22-year-old. “I can see either Daniel knocking him out early or Razvan cuddling him and doing little tricks then getting to round seven or eight and still doing the leaning on with little elbows, shoulder in the face.

“It will test Daniel’s heart but, on the other hand, he could have the perfect style and end up knocking him out.

“I hope he does, I really do,” added the 15-0 Gorman – who returns to the ring at the Morningside Arena in Leicester on February 23 – believing it will fuel the confidence of the 21-year-old Dubois to accept a thrilling domestic duel between the pair.

“He’ll probably think, in his own mind, if I’ve knocked Razvan out I can knock Nathan out and he might get the cojones to fight me.

“I’ll be there cheering him on.”

NATHAN GORMAN IS relishing the opportunity to put down an early marker for the year, having been added to the card at the Morningside Arena in Leicester on February 23, live on BT Sport.

The 15-0 heavyweight will get quickly back in the swing of things in 2019 after also featuring on the blockbuster Manchester Arena show on December 22, where he tasted the full 12 round distance for the first time against former world title challenger Razvan Cojanu, in what represented a fourth fight in a year for the Nantwich 22-year-old.

He will now bid to start the New Year on a high in Leicester in a support attraction to the British super featherweight title showdown between the champion Sam Bowen and dangerous challenger Ronnie Clark.

“This is a real bonus for me because I only boxed recently,” said the WBC International Silver champion. From boxing on the 22nd December to getting back out in seven-eight weeks is very fortunate and a good kick-start to 2019.

“It is great exposure for me again and hopefully I will put on a good performance and make a statement,” added the young heavy, who believes exposure is almost as valuable as experience at this stage of his career.

“Yes of course it is because you want to turn heads, don’t you? You want people to tune in to watch you and get them talking. You want to be the name on everyone’s lips and that is why it would be good to get a KO reel.”

To that end, Gorman admits a degree of frustration that his last two fights – against Cojanu and before that Kamil Sokolowski – have reached the final bell. There were, however, mitigating circumstances in the Sokolowski fight because he sustained a hand injury in the first round, while Cojanu was a step up in levels and a wily campaigner.

“It has annoyed me a bit, but the last one was very awkward and I could see why he went the 12 rounds with Joseph Parker. He was very clever at surviving and when you caught him with a good shot he knew how to hold on and he did little things in there that allowed him to get through.

“The positive is that I got 12 rounds out that I had never done before – and against a big lump as well. Listen, I would have loved to have gone in there and knocked him out in the first round, but now I know I can do 12 rounds and for future fights that will pay dividends.

“I do know that I need a showreel KO now and I plan on getting one in Leicester.”

Josh Warrington won a 12-round unanimous decision over former world champion Carl Frampton to retain the IBF Featherweight title at The Manchester Arena in Manchester, England.

Warrington came out like gangbisters and he threw and landed punches with reckless abandon.  Warrington dominated the first half of the fight with sheer volume.  Frampton showed a champions class as he fought his way back in the fight, and made it very tight on the scorecards bt landing right counters over the combinations of Warrington.

Warrington built up too much of a lead, and held on by scores of 116-113 and 116-112.

Warrington, 125.9 lbs of Leeds, UK is 28-0.  Frampton, 125.9 lbs of Belfast, IRE is 26-2

Liam Williams stopped previously undefeated Mark Heffron in round 10 of a scheduled 12 round middleweight fight.

In round two, Williams was cut over the right eye from a clash of heads.  Williams dominated the action as he will able to land his right hand at will.

In round two, Williams landed a big shot that drove Heffron into the ropes, which was ruled a knockdown.  Williams followed that up with an onslaught of punches, and the fight was stopped at 1:55

Williams, 159.9 lbs of Wales is 19-2-1 with 14 knockouts.  Heffron, 157.9 ls 21-1.

Hassan N’Dam won a 12-round majority decision over Martin Murray in a middleweight contest.

At the end of round four, Murray landed an overhand right that sent N’Dam down in the corner.  But N’Dam was able to survive that and box and move his way to a points victory by scores of 117-112, 116-112 and 114-114.

N’Dam, 157.9 lbs of France is now 37-3.  Murray, 159.9 lbs of England is 37-5-1.

Michael Conlan remained undefeated with a 10-round unanimous decision over Jason Cunningham in a featherweight bout.

In round six, Conlan was deducted a point for a low blow, but Conlan dominated the action, and won by scores of 98-92 and 97-92 twice

Conlan, 125.9 lbs of Ireland is 10-0.  Cunningham, 124.9 lbs of England is 24-6.

“I made some mistakes in there, but it was a learning experience. It was the first time I went 10 rounds. I felt comfortable in there going the distance, and I got the job done.”

Nathan Gorman remained undefeated with a 12-round unanimous decision over former world title challenger Razvan Cojanu in a heavyweight bout.

Razvan Cojanu will step in to take on Ricky Hatton-trained heavyweight prospect Nathan Gorman on December 22nd after the late pull-out of Gorman’s original opponent, Alex Leapai.

Romanian-born Cojanu was scheduled to fight Britain’s other big heavyweight prospect, Daniel Dubois this Saturday at the Brentwood Centre but due to illness, Dubois was forced to withdraw from the bout.

But fortunately for both fighters, Cojanu will now make his way up north next week and challenge Gorman at the Manchester Arena on December 22nd, live on BT Sport Box Office.

“I’m disappointed Leapai didn’t get on the plane. He’s given it some bad mouth which isn’t really my style, but in my world, if you are going to do that then you come and have a fight. Words are cheap, maybe he regretted his words knowing what was coming?” said Gorman.

He continued: “I thought it was going to be a big let down trying to get an opponent this late but at the very last minute, Daniel’s bad luck has proved well for me; that’s ironic really.

“I get to fight a guy who fought for a world title just last year and took Joseph Parker the distance, so he is a better opponent in many respects.

“He is here, he is in the country and I’m looking forward to putting on a show again at the Manchester Arena.”

Nathan Gorman insists there is no bias in his assessment of huge heavyweight showdown on Saturday night when he forecasts Deontay Wilder barely being able to lay a glove on the elusive force that is Tyson Fury.

The 22-year-old Gorman – who fights Alex Leapai on the bumper Warrington-Frampton pre-Christmas boxing bonanza on December 22 at the Manchester Arena – is a distant relative of the Furys and the pair also share a UK training base at Ricky Hatton’s gym in Hyde.

The 14-0 WBC International Silver title holder, however, states that his fight predictions are not based on any loyalties, just personal experience of seeing Tyson up close and personal.

“I would say truthfully and without bias at all, whatever I thought,” explained the Nantwich-based heavy. “I have never sparred with Wilder, but from sharing a ring with Tyson I just can’t see Wilder beating him, I really can’t.

“I just think Wilder will get frustrated with Tyson when he can’t hit him, he will load up big swings and Tyson will make him miss and make him pay.

“He is too clever, he has got too much in the arsenal for him and he is a big 6ft 9″ switch-hitter – and he is really, really awkward,” added Gorman, who admitted to being shocked by the stealth of Tyson when he first got in the ring with him.

“Definitely, I’ve also seen him take the p*ss out of world class sparring partners.”

One thing, Gorman acknowledges, that cannot be legislated for is if Wilder manages to land the lottery punch.

“Obviously, getting onto that, it is 36 minutes and Wilder only needs one punch because he is the most dangerous heavyweight out there, isn’t he? He is more dangerous than Joshua in my opinion and if he hits you, you are going out.

“But, I just can’t see Tyson letting him do that. It is heavyweight
boxing though, so you never know.”

RICKY HATTON believes that his Heavyweight protege Nathan Gorman can reach the very top of the division in years to come.

‘The Hitman’ trains Gorman (14-0) who faces the toughest night of his short career when he defends his WBC International Silver championship against former world title challenger Alex Leapai (32-7-4) at Manchester Arena on Saturday 22nd December.

Fury trains at Hatton’s gym on the outskirts of Manchester, so Gorman gets plenty of action with his cousin.

“There are a few more boxes that he has got to tick, but Nathan can get where Tyson Fury and Anthony Joshua are,” said Hatton who will be Fury’s corner when he challenges WBC World Heavyweight champion Deontay Wilder on Saturday (December 1), live on BT Sport Box Office.

“He has not been in a war yet, he has not been hit on the chin and there are boxes to tick, but he will get there.

Gorman, 22, will be making the first defence of the title he won when he knocked out Mohamed Soltby last November when he faces Leapai.

But Hatton believes it will not be a step too far despite the Aussie based Samoan’s experience that includes a challenge for Wladimir Klitschko’s IBF, WBA and WBO belts in April 2014.

He lost in five rounds, but 26 wins have come inside the distance – almost double the amount of professional contests Nantwich’s Gorman has competed in.

Hatton recalled: “The first day he came in my gym, he was 18 years of age and I said; ‘How long has he been boxing?’ and I was told just over 12 months.

“My jaw just hit the floor. He was so natural. From then he has progressed even further and won a WBC international belt already and there are big, big fights.

“His fight against Alex Leapai on the Josh Warrington-Carl Frampton undercard is a big stage to show his talent.

“He has made unbelievable progress. I have to remind myself sometimes that he only had 12 fights as an amateur and still got on the GB squad.”

Gorman will almost certainly fight fellow unbeaten prospect Daniel Dubois in the future and although he is keen for that to happen, he is happy for both boxers promoter Frank Warren to stage the fight when the time is right.

Hatton says: “Nathan has another domestic rival in Daniel Dubois. We have Tyson and AJ at the top, but it is nice to see Nathan and Daniel on the conveyor belt behind them.

“I don’t want to be disrespectful to Daniel and his team. I know how strong Daniel is, but Nathan can handle it in that department. He has got the boxing ability, the speed, the close quarter game, the distance.

“He has so many more tools in his bag than what Daniel has got and Nathan says he hardly lost a round when they sparred on the GB squad.

“I refuse to believe Daniel Dubois is improving at the rate Nathan is.”

ALEX LEAPAI WARNS that the matchmakers for the Manchester Arena blockbuster on December 22 have made a big mistake in booking his services to provide opposition for Nathan Gorman.

The 32-7-4 Aussie – known as Lionheart – has mixed in the best of company across his 14 years in the professional ranks and fought for the world titles held by Wladimir Klitschko in 2014.

The veteran heavyweight believes our bright young heavies – including Gorman and Daniel Dubois – are the product of hype and he intends to place Gorman firmly in his place when he takes to the ring, live on BT Sport Box Office.

“Nathan is just a baby in the game, he looks like a big hairy baby to be honest,” said the Queensland-based Leapai. “I’ll be coming over to put this baby to sleep on December 22nd.

“After I bash up Gorman, I want to bash up that other kid they have over there, Daniel Dubois. These are boys in a man’s game and they are going to find that out very quickly.

“Frank Warren is a great promoter who doesn’t get it wrong very often. But unfortunately for him, he has got this very wrong!”

Nathan Gorman will defend his WBC International Silver heavyweight title against former World Title challenger Alex Leapai on the bumper Josh Warrington-Carl Frampton card at the Manchester Arena on December 22.

The unbeaten Gorman is causing quite a stir in heavyweight circles, with the Ricky Hatton-trained 22-year-old having now clocked up 14 fights, with 11 wins coming via stoppage.

The Nantwich-born former Team GB member won his WBC belt in late 2017 when he took on the also then unbeaten Mohamed Soltby at the Metro Radio Arena in Newcastle, stopping the German after five bruising rounds.

He has since kept busy with three fights already across 2018, with the pick of the wins coming against the rated Irishman, Sean ‘Big Sexy’ Turner at the Manchester Arena, where he turned up the heat and ended the resistance of Turner inside of three rounds.

Gorman appears to be on a longer-term collision course with UK rival Daniel Dubois, but his next opponent hails from the Southern Hemisphere, with Leapai based in Queensland, Australia but originally from Samoa.

The 39-year-old holds a record of 32-7-4 across a career spanning 18 years. His professional exploits earned him a shot at the unified world titles in 2014, taking on the long-term champion Wladimir Klitschko in Oberhausen, but his world title adventure was aborted in the fifth round against the then dominant Ukrainian.

He subsequently demonstrated his durability the full ten rounds against Malik Scott and Manuel Charr before getting back amongst the wins over 2017-18 with victories in his homeland over Thomas Peato and Roger Izonritei.

Gorman believes he will have to be on top of his game to see off the challenge of such a seasoned opponent.

“Obviously he is a very experienced opponent who has fought for world titles. He is a dangerous opponent, but also a good one for me, if that makes sense.

“He will be a good name on my record if I beat him and beat him in style, which I believe I can do. I will have to be on my As and Bs because he is a dangerous fella with such experience. Some people say heavyweights are in their prime when they reach their late thirties.”

Gorman added that, while his own objectives will always remain first and foremost in his thinking, securing a slot on such a massive BT Box Office card is a big attraction.

“Definitely, it is a very big bill to be a part of and obviously I have got a good fight against Alex Leapai that has got me on the show.”

Leapai himself firmly believes Gorman is jumping the gun by signing up for such a test at this stage of his career, considering this country’s bright young heavies to be over-hyped and untested at a higher level.

“A lot of these British heavyweights are over-hyped without really beating anyone,” said the confident Aussie. “I’m coming over to burst the bubble of the latest hype job.

“I’ve had more knockouts than Nathan has had fights. This is way too soon for Nathan.”

Anthony Yarde stopped Walter Sequeira in round four of their scheduled 10-round light heavyweight bout.

Yarde scored three knockdowns, and the nout was stopped at 2:14 of round four.

Yarde, 173 1/2 lbs is 17-0 with 16 knockouts. Sequieira, 174 1/4 lbs is 20-5.

Joe Mullender stopped Ben Capps in round seven of their scheduled ten-round super middleweight fight.

Mullender dropped Capps with a right hand in round seven. Moments later, it was a body shot that sent Capps down, and the fight was over at 1:36.

Mullender, 160 lbs is now 11-2 with five knockouts. Capps is 15-5-2.

Johnny Garton stopped former world title challenger Gary Corocoran in round 11 of a scheduled 12 round welterweight bout.

The fight had plenty of back and forth action throughout the bout.

In round three, Garton was cut under the right eye. The cut got worse and blood streamed down and covered the face of Garton.

In round 11, Garton landed a hard right hand that staggered Corocoan back to the ropes. Garton leveled Corocoan with hard shots, and the fight was stopped at 42 seconds.

Garton 146 lbs is now 23-1-1 with 10 knockouts. Corcoran, 146 lbs is now 18-3.

In a battle of undefeated super middlewights, Zak Chelli won a eight-round decision over Umar Sadiq

In round six, Cehlli dropped Sadiq with a hard right hand. Sadiq made a furious rally in the final round, and bloodied the nose of Chelli.

Chelli won by a score of 77-74, and is now 5-0. Sadiq is 3-1.

Nathan Gorman decisioned Kamil Sokolowski in a heavyweight bout.

Gorman, 255 lbs won by a score of 79-73 and is now 14-0. Sokolowski is 5-13-2.

Hamzah Sheerez won a four-round decision over Zygimantas Butkevicius in a super welterweight bout.

Sheerez won by a score of 40-36, and is now 5-0. Butkevicius is 1-14.

DANIEL DUBOIS insists the time is getting closer for a showdown with arch domestic rival, Nathan Gorman.

A mouthwatering clash between two of the best heavyweight prospects in the world is one to look forward to.

Gorman’s trainer Ricky Hatton revealed earlier this week that his man is desperate to face his former sparring partner and GB amateur team-mate.

Dubois who has won all nine professional fights, eight by KO, is also keen adding: “Me and Gorman is a good a fight and I want to have that fight when the time is right.

“A few fights down the line we can have that fight, definitely. It sounds a great fight.

“I haven’t been keeping up with what he is saying about us fighting, but it seems the case is that he is talking it up.”

Hatton hoped that Dubois would be ringside at the Brentwood Centre on Saturday (October 20) to see unbeaten Gorman bid for his 14th consecutive professional win.

Instead Dubois will be tuned into BT Sport watching his biggest rival, right now.

The Londoner who is back in the gym on Monday following his win over Kevin Johnson earlier this month said: “I am having some time off just chilling at home.

“I will watch Gorman’s fight at home on Saturday night.”

Dubois was taken the distance for the first time in his career by former world title challenger Johnson in a great learning fight in Leicester against the American survivor.

“I was prepared for ten rounds and that is in the bank. It is another box ticked,” said 21-year-old Dubois

“I have done it. It is gruelling doing ten rounds and now we move on.

“I have just got to improve. There are things to work on when I go back in the gym and I also have to work on strategy.

“The biggest thing I learnt from the Johnson was that I have to stay focused for the whole round and be prepared for anything. He gave me a good workout.

“I could have been more focused and on it, but I never really switched off.”

Anthony Yarde will be headlining the Brentwood Centre on October 20th when he faces Argentinian Walter Gabriel Sequeira. World title challenger Gary Corcoran and Johnny Garton will contest the vacant British welterweight title. RICKY HATTON has revealed that heavyweight hope Nathan Gorman is nagging him for a showdown with bitter rival Daniel Dubois.

Both men are promoted by Frank Warren and a clash between two of the divisions biggest prospects looks certain for the future.

Promoter Warren will be keen to match them inside 18 months and Hatton is also patient, but Gorman is on his trainer’s case pleading for the contest.

They sparred during their amateur days on the GB squad and British ring great Hatton revealed: “Nathan must hound me every week about fighting Daniel Dubois.

“He says he has sparred with him when they were on the GB squad and Nathan words, not mine are that he has ‘never lost a round to him.’

“He is itching for that, but I tell him he has got to give it time.

“We’re heading in the right direction with Frank. I have told Nathan don’t worry about Daniel – just concentrate on yourself, keep improving and adding to your fan base.

“He is a lovely kid, not arrogant. He just has confident in his own ability to what he can do if he gets the chance to fight Dubois.”

Gorman (13-0) is in action on Warren’s card at the Brentwood Centre on Saturday (Oct 20th) and hopes Dubois who lives nearby in London’s East End will be ringside.

Hatton added: “Believe you me he can’t wait to go to Brentwood which you could call Daniel’s back yard and put a show on.

“When Nathan and I fancy the fight it is not being disrespectful to Daniel. I don’t BS, tell tales or feel the need to publicise my fighter.

“Daniel showed a lot of improvement against Kevin Johnson – a good punch volume and stamina, but I’d be surprised if Johnson threw 50 punches in the fight and that is no exaggeration.

“You have to pat Daniel on the back and he showed improvement, but we’re up for the fight and it is now in the hands of Frank.”

Anthony Yarde will be headlining the Brentwood Centre on October 20th when he faces Argentinian Walter Gabriel Sequeira. World title challenger Gary Corcoran and Johnny Garton will contest the vacant British welterweight title. NATHAN GORMAN will be slimmed down by trainer Ricky Hatton to help him add even more power to his armoury.

Heavyweight hope Gorman (13-0) goes for his fifth consecutive KO win at the Brentwood Centre, this Saturday night.

The 22-year-old might not be built like an Adonis, but he and Frank Warren stablemate Daniel Dubois are both winning plaudits and on a collision course to face each other.

British boxing great Hatton said: “Nathan’s power is developing because he’s maturing and more suited to the type of training we do.

“We have him doing a bit of strength work and we’re trying to slim him down a little bit.

“He is never going to be a body beautiful because some people aren’t built that way. We can’t all be built like Anthony Joshua or Daniel Dubois.

“But he is solid enough, Making him a little bit leaner and explosive will give him advantages. That is the theory behind that.

“He is also improving technically and punching with his whole body now. When he first came he was still a little bit of a rookie and arm punching.

“He is punching nastily and along with his speed and boxing ability which he is known for he is coming into his own.”

The Nantwich boxer has fought twice so far this year, and in June impressively beat good Irishman Sean Turner.

Hatton hopes that promoter Warren will find a spot for his protege on the Josh Warrington v Carl Frampton world title undercard in Manchester on December 22.

“Nathan had his career best win against Sean Turner, but we’re looking to move on from that and impress further,” added former two-weight world champion Hatton.

“He is still only a baby, but in his last fights showed what he is capable of and all about. He hasn’t even scraped the surface for what is to come.

“It looks like we’re having two fights before the end of the year and that will cap a lovely 2018 for us.”
