MATCHROOM BOXING CEO, FRANK SMITH

“I remember when Pat Brown came to our office and he sat down and said, ‘I just love tear-ups’. I said, ‘right, that’s a man after my own heart’. I’m not always into the tactical side of it, and Pat Brown has delivered in every fight exactly what he said he’d do. We’ve had some of our best nights, I’ve been lucky enough to be in boxing for 16, 17 year, we’ve had some of our best nights in Manchester – in the arenas up here and the venues up here.

“Pat delivers excitement inside and outside of the ring. He has a huge fanbase and can go to the top of this sport. Vasil Ducar is obviously another step up, and the right type of step he needs right now. We honestly believe Pat can become undisputed Cruiserweight Champion of the World and then do the same thing at Heavyweight. Not putting too much pressure on him, I’m sure he does it himself. The journey is only just getting started.

“I believe he will be fighting for World titles (in the next 12 months). For sure. He’s such a good talent. He’s proving it every time he steps in the ring. Of course, he needs to develop in the fights with the right opponents at the right times but he’s ready, he’s ready to go. He can be a superstar of this sport and trust me, he will be.”

PAT BROWN

“All the memories come flooding back. This is where it started. I remember everyone was there cheering. If you want to be the best and you want to make it to the top, the pressure comes with it, and I believe the way I’ve started my career – he’s definitely a step up. Every fight has been a step up for me. Every single record is a positive record.

“I want to be in good fights to see what I’m about. I understand people get excited and they want to fast-track me. I’ve not gone past four rounds yet. I need to learn about being in deep waters and believe the man to my left [Vasil Ducar] will do that. It’s going to be a tough fight, and I know what I’m in for. I definitely do want the rounds because when you get to the top you need to have that experience – it’s so important. There comes a point where power can only take you so far. Everyone is going on about how I’m this wrecking ball, but I do enjoy showing the technical side of things. I don’t really feel anything until I’m walking to the ring. Something just ignites in me. The penny just drops. As soon as I let ‘em go, if I hurt them, I’m on them like a rash.”

VASIL DUCAR

“I think he [Pat] is in a great place. He’s a good fighter. He’s strong, aggressive, I must be ready from the first round. When we want to make a good fight, we need a good opponent. I think we can go together to make a good fight. Inside me there is the spirit of a warrior. I think the deep waters can be from the first round because when both sides want to go to the deep waters, we can go there from the first round. We can start from the first seconds. We will see. Everybody can have a plan until the first punch. We will see what the situation is. The best fighters react to the situations they find themselves in.”

WILLIAM CROLLA

“There’s a massive chip on my shoulder because, I’m a winner. There’s nothing worse than losing. When I got beaten, Anthony [Crolla] said it to me, you remember the feeling. People were waiting for me to lose. It spurs you on. One minute I’m being spoken about as the next prospect coming through and the next big thing, then all of a sudden, I’m fighting for my career in December in London on a Wednesday night. I wanted to thank Frank, the team and Eddie. They didn’t have to get me out in London then. I feel like I owe them an electric performance on Friday night, and that’s exactly what they’re going to get. It’s a performance I need to get people talking about me again, and to silence all the haters.

“On paper it’s a 50/50. Glenn is an Irish prospect coming up, I’m an English prospect coming up. It’s a great fight, especially made on a week’s notice. I just believe I’m a better fighter in all departments; I think that will show on Friday night. The English Title is vacant; I’d love that towards the end of the year. I just want to be in good fights. That’s all I want. A big win on Friday night opens a lot of doors for me.”

JOSH BLENKIRON

“I was a little bit gutted when my opponent pulled out. We had trained for Joe but obviously when I got told it was Robbie, I just thought it’s going to be another war. I’m ready to go, trained hard, stayed in camp and I’m ready to go again and carry it on from round 11. I just hope Robbie’s got a new gum shield – he spat it out and few times last time. No disrespect. It was a good fight. It will be wider this time. He’s going to come to win. I’m there to win. I’m just going to let my hands go and let my hands do the talking and just leave it in there. I’m ready, he says he’s ready – let’s go.”

ROBBIE COLMAN

“You don’t need to ask me twice; I was absolutely buzzing for the opportunity. I thought it would have been later in the year, but it’s come quicker. I’m ready for it. I’ve kept myself ready after the first fight. I was straight back in the gym locked in. I’ve got the opportunity so I’m here now. I just think I was over eager wanting to win too badly. Sometimes when you want to win too bad your performance goes off.

“No disrespect to Josh, he’s a good fighter. We both put a good show on. There were a few adjustments we looked back on, and we’ve picked them up in the gym. Now I’m back and we’ve got to put them right. I’m a winner and I want to win on Friday night, I cannot lose. I feel like we’re both exciting fighters. I’ll always bring work rate, I’m always fit, I’m always ready, I’m always in the gym keeping my shape right. On Friday, I’ll bring it.”

ALFIE MIDDLEMISS

“It means the world to me to sign for Matchroom. This is a massive opportunity for me and now I can build momentum through this year. The gym is thriving at the moment, some big characters in the gym, even though I get unbelievable stick off Dave Allen. I’m learning all the time and improving as a fighter. I believe you’re going to see that on Friday. It’s a good step up in opponent. As I keep stepping up those levels I’m going to show the best of my ability. I’m sparring top operators in the gym and I’m looking great. I’m feeling amazing. You’re going to see the best of me as we keep stepping up with these opponents.

“I’m excited to showcase what I can do, and I believe I’m going to get a stoppage on Friday night. I’ve got a great engine, as I keep increasing the rounds, you’re going to see the best of me. I can adapt to each fighter and I’m looking to put on a showcase performance to show the best I can do.”

GARAN CROFT

“I think once you get here, you feel real excitement. Fight week has started, and I just can’t wait to show people what I can do and what he [Ioan Croft] can do. I’m looking forward to it. It’s good to be doing it together as well. Our boxing journey started together, and we’ve been across the world together. We do spar together, not so much anymore. There’s been a few bust-ups in the kitchen back home when we were kids. It’s pretty controlled now. It’s good rounds actually. It’s good healthy competition between us, whether that’s inside the gym or running and track – any sort of training. We’re always competing against each other. I’ll definitely be going for a finish at some point. I’m not sure what round. I just want to look good doing it as well.”

JORDAN THOMPSON

“After the fight in Florida, Frank and Eddie came back and said, ‘unlucky, you did a good job, we’re going to keep you active, we’re going to get you back out and get you to a bigger fight’. Eyes locked in on our kid over there, Friday night. We’re going to go out there, do the job and we’re going to look good doing it. Then let’s see what comes after. I’m locked in and I’m excited to be back in Manchester. I don’t know if you can hear but I am from Manchester, born and bred, I am a northerner – I’ve been down south for a bit of a long time now. I’ve stopped drinking coffee and I’m back on my northern vibe, now you’re going to see a true northerner doing what I do best. Getting back in there and just putting on a show. Explosive, relentless, unapologetic. I can’t wait; it’s going to be exciting. I’m looking forward to getting some more belts. The IBF European Cruiserweight belt is collecting a bit of dust. I’m looking to add some to the collection. I’ve got the best team behind me to do that. I’m looking forward to seeing what we can pick up.

“It’s reassuring now being up at Heavyweight, being at my natural weight and just being able to go out there and do what I do. Not second guessing myself and just being able to go out there and express myself. It’s a nice feeling. It will be artistic, but it will be violent.”

IOAN CROFT

“Camp has been brilliant. It’s just about taking the week in. We’ve worked hard enough in the gym so there’s no reason on Friday night why both of us can’t put on the best performances of our pro careers so far. That’s what we’re looking to do. It’s been brilliant working with Anthony Crolla. We’re really enjoying it in the gym, and you’ve got William [Crolla] on here Friday night as well. There’s a great buzz in the gym between the three of us. Ant has got so much knowledge to pass on. There’s no better place for us to be. I just want to put on my best performance, and everything will follow suit.”

CALLUM SMITH VS DAVID MORRELL MEGA FIGHT SET FOR APRIL 18 IN LIVERPOOL AS PAT BROWN HEADLINES IN HIS HOMETOWN ON APRIL 3

Callum ‘Mundo’ Smith defends his WBO Interim Light Heavyweight Championship against David Morrell on his home turf in Liverpool as part of a huge North-West double for Matchroom Boxing in the UK this April – with Cruiserweight sensation Pat Brown topping the bill in his hometown of Altrincham, live worldwide on the Global Home of Boxing, DAZN.

On Saturday, April 18, Smith fights in Merseyside for the first time in seven years, with his homecoming set against his dangerous Cuban rival Morrell (12-1, 9 KOs) at the M&S Bank Arena.

And the month gets underway on Friday, April 3, when Team GB Olympian Brown headlines for the second time in his hometown at Altrincham’s Planet Ice Arena in a massive step up for The Ring Magazine’s undefeated 2025 Prospect of the Year nominee when he faces Vasil Ducar for the WBA International Cruiserweight Title.

Both blockbuster fight nights will be complete with stacked undercards, all to be announced in due course alongside ticket details via Matchroom Boxing’s official website. Information on when to apply for media accreditation will follow too.

April 3 also sees the eagerly-awaited Matchroom Boxing debut of the Croft twins, Ioan and Garan, who join the bill alongside Featherweight prospect Alfie Middlemiss, who is also now officially part of the UK roster, who collides with Lewis Morris.

William Crolla goes up against Jermaine Osbourne-Edwards in an eliminator for the English Super-Welterweight Title, whilst Joe Howarth meets Josh Blenkiron in an eliminator for the English Lightweight Title. And Manchester Heavyweight Jordan Thompson returns too, following his points defeat last November in Orlando against the unbeaten Lenier Pero.

For Callum Smith (31-2, 22 KOs), his April 18 homecoming has been long overdue having last headlined in Merseyside back in November 2019 when he defeated John Ryder for the WBC Diamond Super Middleweight Title.

In that time away from home he has valiantly fought on the road against the likes of Saul ‘Canelo’ Alvarez and Artur Beterbiev, before a major Fight of the Year contender against fellow Brit Joshua Buatsi in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, 12 months ago, which propelled the 35-year-old to the WBO Interim crown after an outstanding, unanimous decision.

Smith is ranked third by The Ring at 175 pounds, whilst Morrell is seventh. And an eventual shot against previous Undisputed ruler and reigning WBO, WBA, IBF and The Ring Magazine king Dmitry Bivol is in the reckoning for the winner – and Smith is confident his time as a two-weight World Champion is in his destiny this year.

“Fighting back in Liverpool is special for me,”said Smith, the former WBA, Ring Magazine and World Boxing Super Series Super Middleweight Champion.

“This is home – there’s nothing like walking out in front of a home crowd that’s supported you from the very start. It gives me a real lift and I plan to give them a big performance.

“Morrell is a top fighter, but I’m coming into this fight with a clear goal – to win and take another big step towards becoming a two-weight world champion.”

A hungry Morrell, meanwhile, last fought to a narrow, split decision triumph over Iman Khataev in July 2025 – and he is intent on ruining the homecoming party for Smith as he bids to continue his rebound following the only loss of his career to date against the current WBC ruler David Benavidez 12 months ago.

“First, I want to thank God for this opportunity in my career,”said Morrell.

“I’m excited to showcase my talent in front of the great boxing fans in the UK. I’m preparing for an all-out war with Callum Smith on April 18. I’m coming for that belt.”

Just over two weeks before Smith vs Morrell, the short journey across the M62 via the M60 to Altrincham awaits when the brilliant Pat Brown continues his meteoric rise in the Cruiserweight rankings.

Brown – the man who Matchroom’s head honcho Eddie Hearn expects to become a World Champion – only made his professional debut little under a year ago and has spectacularly stopped all five of his opponents no later within the first four rounds since he first stepped inside the ropes last March.

With his sights set on capturing domestic titles before his inevitable journey to the world stage, Brown is determined to blast through tough Czech opponent Ducar (19-7-2, 17 KOs) – who has previously stood toe-to-toe with the likes of Chris Billam-Smith, Chev Clarke and Jordan Thompson – in what promises to be another sold out appearance in front of his home faithful in Greater Manchester.

“I’m delighted to be headlining for a second time In Altrincham in six fights,”said Brown

“I think I’ve shown in these fights that I don’t want a padded record. We’ve seen Ducar come over here and cause all kinds of problems before, but I believe I’m a different proposition entirely.

“I’m expecting a great fight in front of my fans – but a fight I believe I’ll win emphatically.”

Matchroom Sport Chairman Eddie Hearn is looking forward to both big nights in the North-West this April – live worldwide on DAZN.

“Smith vs Morrell is a tremendous fight and one of the biggest Liverpool has seen for a long time,”said Hearn.

“We’ve been working hard to get this over the line for some time now. I’m delighted that we have finally got it done and that we are bringing it to the M&S Bank Arena on April 18, Callum has been on the road for the most part in his recent career, famously beating the likes of George Groves and facing greats such as Canelo and Beterbiev. Now he gets his much-deserved mega fight in his home City.

“Callum is an outstanding fighter and showed last year against Joshua Buatsi the incredible levels he is at. Make no mistake, this will be another barnstormer against an elite operator in Morrell.

“Before then, we look forward to Pat Brown’s homecoming in Altrincham. I believe Pat is arguably the most exciting prospect in boxing right now – we’ve seen Vasil Ducar trouble Brits like Chris Billam-Smith, Jordan Thompson and Chev Clarke and will be ready to give Pat his toughest test to date when they meet live on DAZN on April 3.”

MASOUD AND MCGRAIL CLASH IN ALL-BRITISH SHOWDOWN FOR IBO SUPER-BANTAMWEIGHT TITLE – YAFAI MEETS RODRIGUEZ FOR INTERIM WBC FLYWEIGHT TITLE ON JUNE 21 IN BIRMINGHAM

British rivals Shabaz Masoud and Peter McGrail will clash for the IBO Super-Bantamweight Title at the top of a stacked card at BP Pulse LIVE in Birmingham on Saturday June 21 that also features undefeated Flyweight Galal Yafai taking on Francisco Rodriguez for the Interim WBC Flyweight World Title – live worldwide on DAZN.

Stoke-on-Trent’s Masoud (14-0, 4 KOs) claimed the IBO crown with an impressive decision win over Telford’s Liam Davies last time out in November – inflicting a first loss on the former British and European Champion following a heated build-up between the pair.

Liverpool’s McGrail (11-1, 6 KOs) outpointed Rhys Edwards over ten rounds in his last contest on the huge Oleksandr Usyk vs. Tyson Fury 2 card in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia – the 28-year-old southpaw’s third straight win since suffering a shock loss to Ja’Rico O’Quinn in 2023.

Birmingham’s Yafai (9-0, 7 KOs) looked sensational as he stopped former IBF Flyweight king Sunny Edwards in six punishing rounds at BP Pulse LIVE in November, and the Olympic Champion puts his WBC Interim Title on the line for the first time against Mexico’s Rodriguez (39-6-1, 27 KOs). A shot at Japan’s unified WBC and WBA Flyweight World Champion Kenshiro Tereji lays in store for the winner.

Wolverhampton’s Conah Walker (15-3-1, 6 KOs) makes the maiden defence of his British Welterweight Title against Middleton’s Mandatory Challenger Liam Taylor (28-2-1, 14 KOs), Olympian turned Cruiserweight prospect Pat Brown (1-0, 1 KO) looks to build on his action-packed professional debut in Altrincham last month, Birmingham Super-Featherweight Ibraheem Sulaimaan (7-0, 4 KOs) returns, heavy-handed Coventry Middleweight Aaron Bowen (5-0, 3 KOs) fights for the second time in 2025 and Walsall Flyweight Hamza Uddin (4-0, 1 KO) continues his rise.

“I’m excited and ready to defend my IBO World Title in Birmingham on June 21,” said Masoud. “I’ve been in the gym since the last victory over Liam Davies in November. This is a another big domestic fight against Peter McGrail that I know will bring the best out of me. I’m looking forward to showing everyone what I’m about again.”

“I can’t wait for this one,” said McGrail. “I respect Shabaz Masoud –  he’s a top fighter, but the best version of Peter McGrail beats any Super-Bantamweight in the world, and that’s what you’ll get June 21 in Birmingham.”

“I’m excited to be fighting back in my home city of Birmingham, I can’t wait to put on a show against a top fighter,” said Yafai. “I’m looking forward to getting through this one and fighting for the World Title.”

“I have been waiting for this opportunity for two years to fight for the WBC 112 pound belt,” said Rodriguez. “I have been World Champion at 105 pounds and 108 pounds. Galal Yafai has never been in the ring with a fighter like me, real Mexican style! Come June 21, the WBC belt is mine and will be going back to wear it belongs – Viva Mexico!”

“This is a brilliant domestic fight between two of the best Super-Bantamweights in the world,” said Matchroom Sport Chairman Eddie Hearn. “Shabaz Masoud looked sensational last time out against Liam Davies and the emerging star from Stoke is promising another memorable performance on June 21. Peter McGrail steps up for the biggest challenge of his professional career to date. It’s going to be an electric atmosphere.

“It’s a huge night of boxing at BP Pulse Live as Birmingham’s own Galal Yafai takes another step to World Title glory when he puts his WBC Interim Title on the line against Mexico’s Francisco Rodriguez. Fan favourite Conah Walker defends his British Title against Liam Taylor and all-action Cruiserweight Pat Brown features on a stacked undercard alongside plenty of local talent. Watch it live and exclusive on DAZN.”

“This has the makings of a brilliant fight,” said Alfie Sharman, VP DAZN. “Shabaz is off the back of a career high win and Peter has been tipped by those in the know for a very long time. Birmingham will be rocking! Watch it live and exclusive only on DAZN.”

Ticket details will be announced next week.

BROWN VS. GRANDONE + UNDERCARD NXTGEN FINAL PRESS CONFERENCE QUOTES

Pat Brown:

“This is part and parcel of the pro game. I’ve said it multiple times, if you want to make it to the top you’re going to have a lot of eyes on you, you’re going to have a lot of media. If I can’t hack it now then I might as well pack my bag and leave and quit this sport.

“I’m just grabbing it with both hands. You only have one pro debut. It’s going to be an electric atmosphere. This is where my mind frame switches. I turn into a different animal now. I’m ready. I’m itching to get off the chair to be honest with you. I’ll wait until Friday, it’s going to be a good night.

“I appreciate him coming over from Argentina and taking this fight. My previous opponent backed out. I’m just fortunate enough that I’ve got an opponent now. He’s game, he’s coming to fight and that’s what I want. I don’t want a journeyman who’s tucking up and who’s not wanting it. He’s in good shape and he’s been training. Like he said, he’s up for it. It’s all good for me that.

“Just a mature performance to be honest with you. Everyone says that I can bang and stuff. I’ve never punched in 10oz gloves before. Jamie keeps asking if I want to try them out in the gym and I said I’ll wait until I’m in the changing room. When I get my first and I start feeling that leather and I start banging them pads, it’ll be the lightest my fist has ever left me. That’s what I can’t wait for.”

Frederico Javier Grandone:

“First of all, thanks very much for the welcome. I’m very conscious about who I am fighting, about where I am fighting, but I’m really calm and I’m calm about the work that we’ve done and the work we have put in. I’m confident that I’m going to win. I’m going to leave my life there on Friday night to win.

“When I first got the news that I was going to fight in this particular fight, I saw it as a great opportunity. I had no problem, I’m always training, I’m always in camp and I’m always ready for these opportunities to come my way. As soon as they mentioned this fight to me, I said no problem – let’s do it.

“I’m completely focused. I understand the atmosphere that I am going to face but ultimately it’s just us two in the ring. I also have experience of this – not having a promoter at times in Argentina, I’d always be the away fighter. I’m completely prepared, focused on this fight. I am confident that I can go and get this victory.”

Cameron Vuong:

“I think that’s what he was banking on – me not making weight. Posting these old photos from holidays years ago. Making this big thing that he’s coming up in weight. We’re not silly. Probably through my own cause, I haven’t made weight properly in the past, but I’ve done it properly this time.

“I believe I’ve beat people better than him in my last three fights to be honest. You had a life and death with Kane Baker. He’s just so cringe it’s unbelievable. I find it unbearable being around him to be honest. I’m looking forward to it. We’re here now. The fight has been built. This is third time lucky. I can’t wait to just punch him square in the face on Friday.

“Unbearable, cringey, just a weird character. I don’t really understand it to be fair, just really weird. Buys Instagram followers, he’s just a really weird guy to be honest. He’s playing on this whole weird thing. I think 9 of his 12 fights have been at Lightweight or above, but he’s a Super-Feather apparently. He blocks shots with his face so I’m looking forward to hitting the heavy bag on the night and embarrassing him.”

Jordan Flynn:

“I’m very happy that we’re finally here. It’s been a long time coming. Third time now, it’s mad. I can’t believe we’re actually seeing him sat here. Two days away and yeah can’t wait. I had doubts, I didn’t really think that he was going to make the weight. Are you going to make weight Cameron?

“Justice for Gavin. This fight is all about justice for Gavin. We need to lock this little weasel up. Everyone saw what happened with the Gavin Gwynne fight. Unfortunately, Cameron badly robbed him. He got beat up every single round. He got gifted the win. I wasn’t actually going to take this fight, but Gavin rang me up after the fight, and he was like, he’s running away – he’s not rematching me. Do you know that Gavin, I’ll do this for you. They offered me the fight. I’ll give him a beating for you and let you clean up with him after.

“He’s just a weasel. Personally, I believe he has a lot of pressure on him, not me. He’s the one being hyped up to be the next World Champion. I’m a nobody. You guys don’t think I’m anything. I’m just the stepping stone to this guy. There’s a lot of pressure on him. He’s been hyped up to be pound-for-pound great, sparring Shakur Stevenson, beating this guy and that guy. He got beat in his last fight – he had a life and death with Jeff Ofori. It’s got to come to an end, he keeps on conning the public, and I don’t think it’s on really.”

Reece Farnhill:

“I’m sure he knows what he’s up against. He’s in for a tough fight. I can box, I can fight – I believe I can do it all. I’m looking forward to it. It was a good moment winning the English Title, especially as the lad I boxed beat me twice in the amateurs. It was good getting a win over him. It means everything to hold onto it. I’ll be doing all I can to do that.

“I’m not looking past this weekend, but I believe I can go to British Title level – top of the British level. Push on from there and see how far I can get. Whatever way I need to do it, I’ll just get the win.”

Mark Dickinson:

“I don’t blame making Middleweight for my loss in Japan. I had a very good hard ten-round fight. I got hurt very early, and I came back. I’ve just got all sites set on Friday night now. As he mentioned, I’ve got a tough fight, but he’s got a tough fight as well. I’m very versatile, I can box in many different ways, and I just can’t wait to show it on Friday night.

“He’s a tough lad, he’s game. He can box a bit as well. Tough, game, strong, high work rate. It’ll be an entertaining fight. Obviously with my style as well, I don’t like to take a backwards step. I think we’ll steal the show to be honest.

“I’ve definitely got a massive pair of balls. Round 2, as Sam will tell you. I fought with a cracked rib for the next eight rounds. I was biting on my gum shield to make sure that I didn’t go down. I think I cam back into the fight. The score didn’t reflect that, but we had a very good fight out there. I just can’t wait to show what I can do at 168lbs now.

“Winning the English Title will probably be the best moment of my career. My dad’s brothers were both English Champions and I think it’s only right that I’ll be the third to do it.”

Conner Tudsbury:

“Well it wasn’t really the first round. Heading towards the fight, into the fight – it was my debut so I had a lot of people that I wanted to make proud and put on a good performance. Once I was in that ring I felt comfortable. I had a quick start and I wanted to get him out of there. I got him out of there.

“Obviously be undefeated, get lots of experience in and literally work my way up to be on that world level – top 10. And then work my way up to become number one eventually. I’m not saying I’m going to do that in a year, but in good time that will happen.

“The energy in the gym has been really good. Training hard but laughing at the same time. Everyone is just pushing each other to do even better. We’re all looking forward to putting on a good show for everyone.”

William Crolla:

“I’ve got massive self belief and I’ve got massive confidence. That’s why I’m doing what I’m doing. If you’re not confident then you’re not going to do anything. I’ve always believed I could do something in the sport. I had a big break away from it and I came back. I’ve given it my absolute everything. That’s why I’m reaping the rewards now. I was here this time last year, I was on one of the Before The Bells. I’m a few pegs up that ladder now; I’m opening the broadcast. Friday night, it’s going to be fireworks. Friday night the fans are in for a proper treat – our styles are going to proper gel and I can’t wait for it.

“I think the last fight, that was a much better win than it looked on paper. The lads that he’d been in with had over 100 amateur bouts internationally. I knew straight away that he didn’t fancy it once he felt the power. Obviously I dispatched him. I know what I’m capable of, and I’m capable of much more than that.

“My opponent has never been stopped. I’ve watched him, he’s got some nice skills. His two losses have come at Super-Middleweight which he has no business being there. He’s back down at his proper weight now. I don’t feel like he’s been in there with someone like me. Friday night I’m looking to make another statement.”

Emmanuel Zion:

“I know too much. The reality is, I’m a fan of his brother. Let’s be real, I’m getting in with a Crolla. I’m going to tell my kids. For me, being here is… I’m not lucky because I’ve earned it. Being here is amazing because I remember that kid being at home sitting and watching all of the boxing. Now I’m here.

“I know enough about him. I’m not stupid. I do my homework. I’m going to be honest with you, you lot are not paying me enough for this fight. Considering how his knockouts have been going. One round knockouts in the last three – this is looking dangerous!

“Luckily for me, I’m smart enough. I’ve got good defence and as you’ll see – I’m a hell of a puncher myself. Like he said, our styles are going to gel. I can easily see this fight getting stopped very quickly end of either end. It’s going to be fun. This is why I’m here.

“On Friday, we’ll see what the hype is really about. As far as I’m concerned, I think I’m good enough to give anyone work. If he can go in there and hang in with me then he’s the real deal.”

Taylor Bevan:

“I couldn’t ask for a better start to my professional career. I’m very grateful to Matchroom Boxing for getting me out so frequently. I want to stay active. I’m looking to put on another solid performance on Friday night.

“It’s made the transition very easy for me because it’s a team I’m familiar with. I’m used to doing all the same training that I used to do when I was leading up to the Commonwealth Games and before that as well. I’m enjoying the training in the pros. It’s a little bit different to what we were doing before but it’s all familiar faces around me and people that I trust. I couldn’t be in better hands.

“I think it’s just experience doing the media stuff. You just get a little bit used to it each time you do it. I feel like I’m familiar with it now. Each fight week I’m feeling more and more comfortable.”

Liam Taylor:

“Obviously the opportunity has been there for a while. This now is a run out for me, but obviously there’s a lot on the line. I know on Friday I’ve got to perform, for a bigger opportunity to fight Conah (Walker).

“I look back and I think, how have I kept going? I fought for the British Title five years ago, and then obviously I fought Avanesyan for the EBU European Title a couple of years ago. Domestically I’ve been around that for a long time. It’s always been my dream to win the British Title. Even if I’ve only got 12 months left in the game, I want to win that British Title. I’m determined to do that.

“I feel like Conah Walker is a better style to fight than Harry Scarf was. He’s a come forward fighter who likes a tear up. I don’t mind it myself. I feel like it’s going to make a great fight for the TV and for the audience. He’s someone that I feel like I can beat.”

VIDEO: Pat Brown & NXTGEN March 28 Press Conference Ft Vuong, Crolla, Dixon, Dickinson + More

BROWN VS. REZNICEK NXTGEN LAUNCH PRESS CONFERENCE QUOTES

Eddie Hearn, Matchroom Sport Chairman:

“Good evening everyone and welcome to the National Football Museum here in Manchester. The professional debut of one of the top GB fighters, Olympian Pat Brown at Planet Ice in Altrincham on Friday March 28 – live worldwide on DAZN.

“The man to my right (Pat Brown) is going to be filling that place out. He has ordered 2,000 tickets for his professional debut. A six-round fight. Plenty of you here tonight, Pat Brown fans in the house.

“It is going to be the start of a very exacting journey. We’ve also got tremendous undercard. We saw a brilliant NXTGEN last week. We’ve got another brilliant NXTGEN card on March 28.”

Pat Brown:

“The atmosphere will be electric. I’m really looking forward to it. I’m honoured to be headlining on my debut, not many fighters can do that so I’m in a really fortunate position.

“I know everyone on the undercard. I did scaffolding with Will (Crolla) on the end there. We were having our lunch brews and that in the freezing cold lifting steel tubes. Obviously Conner, we’ve known each other since we were kids. We had a little dingdong when we were kids as well.

“It’s really nice to have everyone I know on the undercard. It’s not just me, it’s Manchester boxing. This is about Manchester boxing coming back which is what I’ve been dreaming of.

“I’ve got a good opponent with a positive record. It’s not going to be someone that is just going to be tucking up. He’s going to be coming and he’s going to be swinging some shots. I’ll show everyone what I’m about.

“When I was an amateur I’d have a few hundred come and watch me, they follow me everywhere. It’s 15 minutes from my house. Let’s get the show on the road.”

Reece Farnhill:

“Yeah I’m looking forward to it. It’s my firs time on a big stage like this. It’s going to be a tough fight. Neither of us are going to take a step back – it’s going to be good. I know he’s a tough kid. He’s got plenty of experience. It’s a different game this pro game. Ten rounds – should be good.”

Mark Dickinson:

“This is definitely must-win for me. Obviously coming off the back of the defeat – it was a hard pill to swallow. I thought I was ready for the step-up. Obviously not. I think stepping up to Super-Middleweight will definitely suit my style. With Reece’s style as well, we’re both come forward and we’ll meet head on. It could steal the show this fight. I think the styles should gel and it will be a tremendous fight. We’ll see who takes the first backwards step.”

Cameron Vuong:

“Last time I checked, it was him that pulled out. Listen Eddie, I’m just happy the fight is on. Hopefully he turns up this time. I can’t wait to smash him to pieces.

“It was a great experience fighting Gavin Gwynne – nobody can take that away now. I got dragged into deep waters – I knew he would do that. He put it on us to be fair. I’ve been saying I’ve got big balls and I’ve got a big heart. I had to show it when I boxed Gavin Gwynne.

“I think it’s a different type of fight against Jordan Flynn and I’m looking forward to smashing his face right in. I think he’ll get a big shock. Hopefully he turns up – third time lucky. I cannot wait.”

Jordan Flynn:

“Thank you for having me here today. I just want to say thank you to Matchroom for the opportunity of this fight happening again. It’s been a long time coming. This will be third time lucky.

“I’m sorry I couldn’t make it. I’m actually in LA right now – Beverly Hills – just having a nice holiday chilling out. I’m not really going to train for this fight to be honest because after seeing Cameron’s last fight – it was a bit of a joke that performance.

“I wasn’t impressed. He’s not actually as good as I thought he was. I think there’s no need for a training camp this time around. And also, to minimise the chance of an injury happening, I think it’s best if we don’t train.

“Cameron I suggest you do the same. I think you should just take it a bit easy. Don’t train too hard. We don’t want more shoulder injuries happening. No more excuses this time.

“I’ve had to give Cameron the opportunity again. I wasn’t going to but I thought, ‘you know what – we need to get justice for Gavin Gwynne. It’s not fair what’s happened to him with that decision last time out. Vuong – make sure you’re ready. No more excuses. Let’s go baby.”

Rhiannon Dixon:

“The last time out against Terri Harper was my worst ever performance. I feel like I’ve got a point to prove now. I’m just grateful that you’ve got me back on a Matchroom show. I can’t thank you enough. I’m excited to get back out there in front of a local crowd.

“I think we just took each opportunity as it came. The Commonwealth, European and then World Title. We couldn’t say no. Obviously we’re both so new to it – me coming from white collar and Anthony is a new coach. We had a lot to learn and we sat down and went through everything. It was a sad time. We’re through it now and we’ll be back better.”

William Crolla:

“Big thanks to you and the Matchroom team for keeping me so busy. I’ve got a tough step up next week on the Catterall undercard. I’m looking forward to showing what I’m about. Manchester boxing is close to booming again. I’m very excited to be a part of it.

“When the city booms again they’ll say my name is one of the reasons why. With the likes of Conner and Pat – there’s no reason big time boxing shouldn’t come back to Manchester.”

Conner Tudsbury:

“I’m really excited. I couldn’t ask for a better start to my pro career, with Matchroom at one of the biggest arena’s in the UK in Co-op LIVE. I can’t wait to sleep some people and see where my professional journey takes me.

“On Feb 15 and March 28 you’re going to see a lot of experience, you’re going to see all of the experience that I’ve gained from fighting all over the world. You’re going to see 16 years of experience in boxing.”

OLYMPIAN PAT BROWN FACES VLADIMIR REZNICEK IN PRO DEBUT ON MARCH 28

Olympic star Pat Brown will begin his journey in the professional ranks against Vladimir Reznicek at Planet Ice in Altrincham on Friday March 28 – shown live worldwide on DAZN

The Team GB standout put pen to paper on a long-term promotional deal with Eddie Hearn’s Matchroom Boxing last November and headlines in his very first pro bout at Cruiserweight against the Czech Republic’s Reznicek (15-2-2, 6 KOs).

Manchester’s Brown, who is trained by Jamie Moore and Nigel Travis at the V.I.P Gym in Astley, is tipped to be one the most exciting young talents in Britain due to his heavy-handed, all-action style.

Bitter Lightweight rivals Cameron Vuong (7-0, 3 KOs) and Jordan Flynn (11-0-1, 1 KOs) will finally settle their long-standing feud in what promises to be an explosive match up at 135lbs – a showdown years in the making.

Clitheroe’s undefeated Super-Middleweight Reece Farnhill (11-0, 4 KOs) defends his English Title against West Rainton’s Mark Dickinson (7-1, 2 KOs) – who will be looking to bounce back from his first loss against Kazuto Takesako in Japan.

There’s also action for Manchester Light-Heavyweight Conner Tudsbury, who makes his professional debut at Co-op Live next month, Warrington’s former WBO Lightweight World Champion Rhiannon Dixon (10-1, 1 KO), Mancunian Super-Welterweight powerhouse William Crolla (6-0, 5 KOs) and rising Super-Middleweight talent Taylor Bevan (2-0, 2 KOs).

“Pat Brown has it all and I can’t wait to get this journey started on March 28,” said Matchroom Sport Chairman Eddie Hearn. “He’s a huge-punching Cruiserweight and he’s got massive support in and around Manchester.

“He’ll be headlining a NXTGEN card on his professional debut and he’s already taken over 2,000 tickets himself. He’s going to be one of the biggest ticket sellers in the country and the kid can really fight.

“Cameron Vuong had a tough fight last time out against Gavin Gwynne. We want that rematch if he comes through Jordan Flynn. Mark Dickinson needs to get the win against Reece Farnhill coming off that loss in Prize Fighter in Japan. It’s another top card on DAZN – the undisputed home of boxing.”

Ticket information will be announced in due course.

HIGHLY COVETED TEAM GB OLYMPIAN PAT BROWN SIGNS WITH MATCHROOM BOXING

Team GB Olympian Pat Brown has signed a long-term promotional deal with Eddie Hearn’s Matchroom Boxing and will make his highly anticipated professional debut at Cruiserweight in 2025, live worldwide on DAZN.

Manchester’s Brown, who will be trained by Jamie Moore and Nigel Travis at the V.I.P Gym in Astley alongside Matchroom stablemates Jack Catterall, Cameron Vuong and Conner Tudsbury, broke into the Great Britain set-up in 2022 with his heavy-handed, all-action style.

The 25-year-old, born and raised in Sale, began his boxing journey at Sale West Amateur Boxing Club – the same club where British legend Ricky Hatton honed is craft – after discovering his love for boxing as a hyperactive seven-year-old.

By 2019, Brown was a two-time North West Champion. He joined the famous Moss Side Fire Station boxing club in 2021 at the age of 20, winning the Heavyweight Title at the England Boxing National Amateur Championships that year.

Manchester United fanatic Brown was awarded a place on the GB Boxing Podium Squad the following year and won his second National Championships, establishing himself as one of the most exciting talents coming out of the GB set-up.

Now managed by Sam Jones, Brown secured his place at the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris after defeating Poland’s Mateusz Berenicki in March earlier this year. He exited the games in the opening around against Brazil’s Pan American Games and World Championship silver medallist Keno Machado.

“Since meeting with Eddie and Frank for the first time, it was clear that our visions aligned,” said Brown. “Matchroom were always my first choice, but you have to weigh up all of your options. After really exciting discussions about the future, it was a no brainer to go with them.

“They are at the pinnacle of boxing and have a great stable of fighters, and I am excited to be the next generation to dominate over the next decade. I believe I have the best team next to me in Eddie and Frank to help me achieve this.

“There’s some huge fights to be made and my dreams have always been to sell out arenas, to bring back them Ricky Hatton days in Manchester. That’s what always gets me going, to have some good wars and good boxing fights. Watch this space, I’ll be coming for it all.”

“This is a signing that I’m incredibly excited about,” said Matchroom Sport Chairman Eddie Hearn. “All of us at Matchroom truly believe that Pat Brown has it in him to become a star of British Boxing.

“With Pat’s all-action aggressive style inside the ring and down to earth personality outside of the ring I’m confident that he can bring back the massive nights to Manchester. He’s an incredibly popular young man and has the ability to sell-out arenas in Manchester and beyond in years to come.

“This is going to be a special journey, and Pat has a very experienced team around him in Jamie Moore and Nigel Travis. We can’t wait to get things underway with Pat in 2025. Watch him fight live around the world on DAZN.”

“I’m delighted and excited to get the deal done between Matchroom and Pat,” Sam Jones. “Pat is without a doubt the biggest signing coming out the Team GB squad, so this is a huge coup for Matchroom.

“Pat has a style that’s going to bring back the glory days to Manchester and British Boxing. He’s a down to earth young man that a lot of people will relate to. I’m so excited to get this journey started.”
