Fresh off a majority draw in a Southern California showdown in December 2024, Alexis “LEX” Rocha once again proved why he remains one of the welterweight division’s most exciting and resilient fighters. His headlining duel with Raul Curiel at Toyota Arena delivered nonstop action and further cemented Rocha’s reputation for grit and entertainment. Rocha entered that bout after recapturing the NABO Welterweight title in July 2024 with a thrilling victory over Santiago Dominguez. That win marked a strong rebound from his October 2023 loss to Giovani Santillan, which ended a successful stretch in which he defended the NABO title three times.

Before that setback, Rocha had built major momentum by claiming the NABO Welterweight title with a win over Luis Alberto Veron in July 2022. That triumph followed an impressive run that included three consecutive knockout victories, highlighted by a dominant performance against Blair Cobbs. Rocha met his first defeat in October 2020 against Rashidi Ellis, but the loss came only after he had already proven his pedigree by winning the WBC Continental Americas Welterweight Title in 2018 and successfully defending it in the years that followed. He began his professional career with Golden Boy in early 2016, making a statement with a knockout debut against Jordan Rosario. That launch came on the heels of an exceptional amateur run in which Rocha became a six-time national champion and, at just 14 years old, the youngest fighter ever to win Junior Olympics gold in 2012. Now at 28, the southpaw keeps advancing through the division, powered by determination, resilience and a reputation for delivering action.

In his latest outing, Raul “El Cugar” Curiel made a powerful statement in a WBA title eliminator on the Jake Paul vs. Julio César Chávez Jr. PPV card, overwhelming previously unbeaten Victor Rodriguez at the Honda Center. A precise right uppercut in the fourth round changed the fight dramatically, leading to a stoppage win and marking an impressive debut under trainer Robert Garcia. That performance followed Curiel’s breakthrough moment in December 2024, when he battled Alexis Rocha to a thrilling 12-round majority draw. The action-packed fight elevated his profile and helped cement his standing among the welterweight elite. He now holds top-15 rankings across all major sanctioning bodies — No. 3 by the WBC and the WBA, No. 6 by the IBF, No. 13 by the WBO, and No. 7 by The Ring Magazine — all while maintaining an undefeated professional record of 16 wins, one draw, and 14 knockouts.

Curiel turned professional in February 2017 under manager Frank Espinoza and Golden Boy, rising through the ranks on the strength of his power and steady dominance. Before turning professional, Curiel built an outstanding amateur resume representing Tamaulipas, Mexico. Beginning at just 15 years old, he quickly emerged as a force on the international stage, capturing gold at the 2012 AIBA World Championships, the 2013 Olympic Cup Championships, and Washington D.C. ‘s 2013 Golden Gloves Tournament. His strong run in the 2015 World Series of Boxing earned him a place on Mexico’s 2016 Olympic team, where he competed in the light welterweight division at the Rio de Janeiro Games. With his sights now set on a world title, “El Cugar” remains a serious threat in the welterweight division.

In his most recent performance, Manny “Gucci Manny” Flores battled to a majority draw in a headline showdown against San Diego’s Jorge Chavez at Fantasy Springs Resort Casino, leaving fans and fighters eager for an immediate rematch. The ten-round clash between two of Golden Boy’s brightest rising stars delivered nonstop action and lived up to the hype. Representing Coachella, CA, Flores has become a standout in the super bantamweight division. After debuting in June 2017, he quickly made a name for himself with an aggressive style and explosive power, stringing together an impressive winning streak. Despite a setback in June 2023 with a unanimous decision loss to Walter Santibanes, Flores has bounced back spectacularly, winning five consecutive fights by knockout. Training under Joel and Antonio Diaz at Diaz Training Camp alongside world-class talent like Israil Madrimov, Murodjon Akhmadaliev, and Bektemir Melikuziev, Flores continues to refine his skills. With his current momentum and determination, he is on track for bigger opportunities in the super bantamweight division.

Jorge “ El Niño Dorado” Chavez delivered a standout performance against Manuel “Gucci Manny” Flores, fighting to a 10-round majority draw in front of a roaring Coachella crowd in his latest outing. Facing one of the toughest challenges of his career in enemy territory, Chavez remained composed and confident, mixing technical skill with power, and leaving fans and fighters alike eager for an immediate rematch. Many observers felt he had done enough to claim victory. Hailing from Tijuana and based in San Diego, Jorge Chavez has rapidly established himself as one of Golden Boy Promotions’ top rising stars. He turned professional in November 2021 and, after making a strong impression in his early fights, signed with Golden Boy in November 2023. In April 2025, Chavez thrilled fans with a dynamic performance against hard-hitting Brandon Douglas on the Gabriela Fundora vs. Marilyn Badillo undercard at Frontwave Arena in Oceanside, CA. The eight-round contest reminded fans why ‘El Niño Dorado’ has become a must-watch every time he fights. Boasting a 60-7 amateur record, Chavez overcame the challenges of being an immigrant fighter with fewer opportunities to develop an extensive amateur background than many of his peers. Known for his sharp technical skills and power, he trains under Hector Lopez in Santa Ana alongside top talents like Alexis Rocha. With an unbeaten professional record and growing momentum, Chavez is quickly emerging as one of the super bantamweight division’s most exciting fighters.

Jake Paul Decisions Julio Cesar Chavez Jr.

Jake Paul had to work hard in the final rounds, but he won a 10-round unanimous decision over former middleweight champion Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. in a cruiserweight fight at The Honda Center in Anaheim, California.

The fight was fought at a slow place early as Paul was taking what Chavez was giving him, and Chavez was doing absolutely nothing as he landed zero punches in round one. Paul was landing some body punches and some left hook. Paul continued to ack up rounds and took a commanding lead.

Paul landed 140 of 482 punches. Chavez was 61 of 154.

Chavez made brief stands in rounds nine and 10. Paul was never in any serious trouble and won by scores of 99-91, 98-92 and 97-93.

Paul, 199.4 lbs of Dorado, PR is now 12-1. Chavez, 198.4 lbs of Sinaloa, MEX is 54-7-1.

Jake Paul Quotes

On the future of his boxing career

“I’m used to these guys not being good promoters. At the end of the day, I’m going to fight all of these guys. I feel like tonight was just the first day of my boxing career, and I just got warmed up, and this is just chapter two moving forward.”

On how much different a fighter he is now compared to when he fought Tommy Fury

“I don’t even think I was a fighter then. That was like two and a half years into the sport, and I didn’t know what I was doing. I didn’t have the proper team around me. I didn’t have conditioning. My lifestyle outside of the ring was still that of a YouTuber, celebrity, actor, whatever I was at that point in time. So I wasn’t fully focused on boxing. Like I said, chapter one is done tonight, and now we’re moving into chapter two. I’m just getting warmed up in the sport. People hold the Tommy Fury thing against me, but what now? I just beat a former world champion, and I’m coming to avenge that loss as well with Tommy.”

On moving up to heavyweight for a potential fight against Anthony Joshua

“I’m definitely not a heavyweight, but I’m still going to take the challenge. You look at Deontay Wilder, he was beating these guys weighing 215 lbs. Granted, he’s 6’6 or something, but anything is possible. I like the challenge. That’s the criticism, people will say, ‘Fight someone in their prime who’s a beast’.” I think people just really want to see me lose. That’s really what the message is behind it all. Anthony Joshua is an insane fight, but I want that challenge. We’ve been DM’ing back and forth. He wants to make it happen. He called me up and it’s looking very likely for next year.”

On what it was like going toe-to-toe with Chavez over the final round

“It was great. I love that he brought a good fight in the end. I think the fans got a good fight to see him come out and throw some punches on me, and it makes me better. It brings the best out of me. I started catching his shots, shooting back, and I had to elevate tonight and rise to a different level. I’m glad that the fans got to see me get punched in the face a little bit but at the end of the day, it’s good. I love a good fight.”

On if Canelo Alvarez is out of the picture for his future plans

“No, he’s not out of the picture. I think once I get the belts, I’m going to want to fight for the cruiserweight championship and add that belt to my resume. I think he would become a four or five-weight champion. I think that would be what interests him, and that’s the plan.”

Gilberto Ramirez Decisions Dorticos To Retain Cruiserweight Titles

Gilberto Ramirez defended the WBA/WBO Cruiserweight title with a 12-round unanimous decision over Yuniel Dortocs

In round 10, Dorticos was docked a point for low blows.

Ramirez landed 224 of 620 punches. Dorticos was 290 of 616.

Ramirez, 199.8 lbs of Sinaloa, MEX won by scores of 117-110 and 115-112 twice and is now 48-1.

Zurdo Ramirez Quotes

On Jake Paul’s performance vs. Chavez Jr.

“Yeah, I give the credit to what he did in the fight. Chavez Jr. was a world-class world champion. He did great.”

On if Jake’s performance legitimized his status at cruiserweight.

“Yeah, I give a lot of credit to Jake Paul on this win.”

On whether a fight with Jai Opetaia is next for him.

“I’m ready, I’m the champion. I [want to become] undisputed.”

Raul Curiel Stops Victor Rodriguez in 4

Raul Curiel remained undefeated with a fourth round stoppage over Victor Rodriguez in a 10-round welterweight bout.

In round four, Curiel landed an a hard uppercut that was followed by a right to the body that sent Rodriguez down. The nose of Rodriguez was bleeding badly. Rodriguez was hurt and Curiel jumped on him with a flurry of punches on the ropes and the fight was stopped at 2:09.

Curiel, 146.4 lbs of Guadalajara, MEX is 16-0-1 with 14 knockouts. Rodriguez, 145.2 lbs of Maldonado, URU is 16-1-1.

Raul Curiel Quotes

On his performance and what’s next

“All due respect for my opponent. It was hard-hitting. He comes to fight and win the fight. I tried to put all my experience on the line and everything, thank God, went well. I’m very happy for my performance. I think I do it well, and I’m ready for everything. I’m ready for every champ, whoever is available. Now I won the title eliminator, so I’m here to fight anyone in the division.”

On what the exchanges felt like and how he was able to stop Rodriguez

“Like I said, he was hard-hitting, a hard puncher. He came to win, and it was a brawl. I always try to make it a war for people. For the fans, I know that’s why they paid for the tickets. I knew it was going to be a war because I studied before the fight, and I knew he was strong. I made a good fight plan for this one, and I felt stronger, and every fight I’m doing better and better.”

Julian Rodriguez Stops Avious Griffin in 10th and Final Round

Julian Rodriguez scored the biggest win of his career by stopping previously undefeated AVious Griffin in the 10th and final round of their welterweight bout.

Over the first half of the fight, Rodriguez got out to a lead by landing some nice counter shots.

In round eight, Griffin dropped Rodriguez with a chopping right hand. Rodriguez came back in round nine by landing a right hand that buckled Griffin. In round 10, Rodriguez ducked under and landed a left hook that hurt and dropped Griffin. Griffin rolled around and with a bloody nose could not beat the count at 2:55.

Rodriguezz, 146.6 lbs of Hoboken, NJ is 24-1 with 15 knockouts. Griffin, 146.8 lbs of Chattanooga, TN is 17-1.

Schofield Takes Out Farmer in 1st Round

Floyd Schofield scored the most significant win of his career as he took out Tevin Farmer in the opening round of their 10-round lightweight bout.

Schofield dropped Farmer in the opening minute with a one-two combination. Schofield then landed a flurry of punches tat was punctuated by a left hook. With Farmer hurt, Schofield landed a hard flurry and the bout was stopped at 1:18.

Schofield, 134.8 lbs of Austin, TX is 19-0 with 13 knockouts. Farmer, 135 lbs of Philadelphia is 33-9-1.

Floyd Schofield Quotes

On if he was surprised at how quickly the fight ended

“Yes and no. So much was going on. I was just thinking a mile a minute, so when the fight was over it didn’t register that the fight was over. I was so hype! I told my dad I just wanted to run out of the ring and celebrate.”

On his message to naysayers

“If you are a hater, continue to hate. If you’re a supporter, I appreciate you, love you. We’re just going to keep doing great things, keep getting bigger. Me and Shakur [Stevenson] have unfinished business at the end of the day. That’s going to eventually happen, and I’ll be able to prove what I was going to do in February.”

Holly Holm returned to boxing after a successful championship run in the UFC and won a 10-round unanimous decision over Yolanda Vega in a super lightweight fight.

Holm, 136.6 lbs of ALbiquerque, NM won by scores of 100-90 on all cards and is now 33-2-3. Vega, 136 lbs of Sonora, MEX is 10-1.

Holly Holm Quotes

On how much she was motivated by Yolanda Vega’s trash talk this week

“I use anything as motivation. They could be being too friendly, and I’d be like, ‘I’m not your friend.’ They could be talking a bunch of trash, and I’d be like “don’t talk like that.” Leading up to a fight, you’ll use anything as motivation, but really my motivation is in me. I fight for myself and the support that I have from my team and my family. When it comes down to it, they should want to win. I don’t want to fight somebody who’s not there to win. I don’t want to fight somebody who’s not at their best. I want to beat them when they’re at their best. I wanted [Yolanda Vega] to come with everything she had, because that makes it more of a sweet victory.”

On the secret to her longevity

“When people tell me that I’m old, I don’t feel it. I do think that it’s [due to] activity, that it’s a mindset, basic health. I think there are a lot of things to it but I think the number one thing is that as long as [boxing is] your passion. I have trainers that I really trust, and if they felt like I couldn’t do it anymore, they would tell me. So I keep those people close to me, and I listen to them. I know I can still do it, they believe in me too, and that’s all it takes. It’s still my passion. I’m not going to do it forever, obviously the years [ahead] are getting less, but I know that I’m still healthy and still ready to go.”

On what we will see next from her

“Better. I had fun tonight, but I definitely want more from myself.”

Curiel and Rodríguez Collide in High-Stakes WBA Title Eliminator

This Saturday night, under the bright lights of the Honda Center in Anaheim, two undefeated welterweights will put it all on the line — not for a title just yet, but for the right to fight for one.

In the red corner stands Raúl “Cugar” Curiel — a Mexican Olympian, southpaw, explosive puncher, and pressure fighter with 13 knockouts in 15 wins. He fights like every round is his last. In December, he went to war in a razor-close draw against Alexis Rocha, showing he can swim in deep waters.

Opposite him is Uruguay’s Victor Ezequiel Rodríguez, a composed 29-year-old technician with a spotless record. No one has beaten him. No one has dropped him. No one has broken his will. After building his name across South America, Rodríguez now steps into the global spotlight, determined to prove he belongs.

There’s no belt on the line — not yet — but the stakes couldn’t be higher. This is a WBA title eliminator. The winner becomes the mandatory challenger for the WBA world welterweight title. The loser goes back to the end of the line.

This isn’t just a clash of styles — it’s a clash of intentions. Curiel wants to dominate and dismantle. Rodríguez wants to announce himself as more than a prospect — he wants to be recognized as a legitimate threat, right now.

While the spotlight may shine brightest on the Ramirez vs. Dorticos main event, this matchup is the one purists are circling. It’s a crossroad fight. A glimpse into the future. And one man will leave Anaheim a giant step closer to the ultimate prize.

Alexis Rocha and Raul Curiel Battle to Spirited Draw

Alexis Rocha and Raul Curiel entertained and delivered, yet after 36 grueling minutes neither could claim victory as the nip and tuck welterweight battle ended in a 12-round majority draw at in Ontario, California.

Both guys had plenty of moments taking the lead in the fight as the both landed plenty of head and body flurries. The fighters took turns taking rounds as it was a nip-and-tuck battle throughout.

Rocha landed 205 of 818 punches. Curiel was 232 of 731.

In the end, Rocha won a scorecard by a 116-112 tally while the two others were evened up at 114-114.

Rocha of Santa Ana, CA is 25-5-1. Curiel of Los Angeles is 15-0-1.

“I want to run this fight back again and then hopefully fight for a world title,” said Rocha. “I know I did enough to win. The rounds were very close; unfortunately, tonight didn’t go my way. I want the rematch — it was a fun fight, and I want to do it again.”

“I definitely felt like I had done what I had to do to win the fight,” said Curiel. “I’m sure he would say the same. At the end of the day, the fans are the best judges, and based on the crowd’s reactions, they won tonight. I hope we can run it back again next year. For now, I want to enjoy the holidays with my family.”

Conwell Knocks Out Vegara in 7

ALEXIS “LEX” ROCHA, NABO WELTWELTERWEIGHT TITLEHOLDER: “First off, I want to thank God. I want to thank all of Golden Boy Promotions. Want to thank my team to the right of me. Appreciate you guys for everything you guys have ever done. Yeah, I got a good opponent coming in front of me, undefeated. He has a winning streak, but every streak, unfortunately comes to an end. I’ve trained very hard for this fight. I’ve cut no corners. I’m mentally, physically, in the best shape possible. This is my moment, and I’m gonna go and take it. This is gonna be a war, December 14, and I’m ready to make a statement.”

RAUL “EL CUGAR” CURIEL, NABF WELTERWEIGHT TITLEHOLDER:

“Hello everyone. First of all, I want to thank God for this opportunity. This is a dream come true. To be able to see my face in this beautiful poster is surreal.”

“I’ve trained very hard for this fight. I know this fight can open all the doors for a world title shot, and that’s my dream. This fight is for Mexico, it is for all my people who have my back and support me. I know I’m going win. This camp was a tremendous one, and I am in the best shape of my career.”

CHARLES CONWELL, SUPER WELTERWEIGHT CONTENDER:

“It feels good to be back. This is my third fight this year. I’m excited man. I have trained real hard for this fight. I want to thank Golden Boy, the whole team, for putting this together and letting me be the co-main event. I’m looking to steal the show and stay tuned for exciting fight. Let’s get it!”

BERNARD HOPKINS, HALL OF FAMER AND GOLDEN BOY PARTNER:

“As we go into the next year, everyone here to my right and to my left, have an opportunity to go into the new year 2025 with the mindset of being the next main event, or the next star in boxing, or becoming a bigger star in 2025. These are the incentives. Nothing is guaranteed.”

ERIC GOMEZ, PRESIDENT OF GOLDEN BOY:

“We did 22 shows this year. This will be our 23rd. This is the last show for the year, and it has been an incredible year. We had some big events, a lot of world title fights, and many great prospects who fought and are continuing to develop. But I truly believe we saved the best for last, and this main event is going to be fantastic, style-wise.”

“What matters is that both Rocha and Curiel are here. For Golden Boy, it’s a little bittersweet because we’ve watched these two guys grow up in front of our eyes. But as everyone knows, boxing is an individual sport. It’s not a team sport. And sometimes, there’s someone in your way—someone from the same stable, maybe even the same gym or the same promoter. These two guys know the significance of this fight, and I want to commend both of them for accepting it and for giving the fans what they want to see: a great night of boxing.”

“I knew this fight with William “El Camarón” Zepeda was coming. I wanted this fight because he is an up-and-coming fighter in my weight division. I think this how all boxers should do it; not cherry-pick, but the best fighting the best. My family, my team and my newborn son are my biggest motivation. Watch me on September 16!”

VICTOR MORALES, JR., WBA INTERCONTINENTAL TITLEHOLDER:
“I am feeling good to go man. I am working on everything. The last fight against Diego De La Hoya just gave me so much more drive. It gave me the stage to show what I am trying to prove and we just want to keep on excelling at that. I’ve really started to learn the business side of boxing this year, just not the fighter-side of the sport. We’re just excited for this next phase.”

YOKASTA VALLE, IBF AND WBO MINIMUMWEIGHT CHAMPION:
“I celebrated my birthday training hard. I’m thankful to Oscar and Golden Boy for remembering my birthday! I will defend my titles and I’ll be more than ready to take on the biggest challenges in the sport. The fans will fall in love with me when they watch me inside the ring!”

Ramirez Stops Gonzalez in 10

Gilberto “Zurdo” Ramirez stopped Yunieski Gonzalez in round 10 of an exciting an entertaining 12-round light heabyweight bout at the AT&T Center in San Antonio, Texas.

Gonzalez started off the fight well as he was able to land some hard punches in the opening fraem. In round three, Gonzalez was deducted a point for holding the head.

In round four, they stood toe-toptoe with Ramirez rocking Gonzalez. Every time it looked like Gonzalez was going down or even stopped, he would land a hard right that would drive Ramirez back. In round five, Ramirez continued to batter Gonzalez.

As the rounds went on, Ramirez got into a boxing mode a started piling up rounds with Gonzalez staying dangerous by landing an occasional right hand. In round 10, Ramirez landed a huge barrage of punches that got through the guard of Gonzalez and even snapping his head back several times until the fight was stopped at 1:22.

Ramirez, 174.4 lbs of Mexico is 43-0 with 28 knockouts. Gonzalez, 173.8 lbs of Miami, FL is 21-4.

“He is a great fighter. I knew he was going to be tough because he showed no fear in his eyes,” said Ramirez. “He had nothing to lose, and I knew he was going to come with everything he had. Thank you Yunieski for taking the fight.

“I tried to land body shots and he was prepared. So, I had to change my attacks and focus on hitting him upstairs so I could get the victory. My hand is a little hurt but that is the price you pay to win. I am ready for the next challenge, I want Bivol. He can’t run anymore, I am coming for him,” continued Ramirez.

“I dedicate this fight to Vicente Fernandez, a great Mexican legend. I come from Mexico, and he inspired me to live my dream and I want to show everyone that they can live their dreams too. There are no barriers besides yourself,” concluded Ramirez.

“I am really disappointed in myself,” said Gonzalez. “I always knew Zurdo would be difficult, a tough fighter. But I expected more from myself. This is not the best performance from me, I’m going to back work on myself and get better.”

Estrada Stops Santizo in 4; Retains Minimumweight Title

Seniesa Estrada retained the WBA Minimumweight title with a 4th round stoppage over Previously undefeated Maria Santizo.

In round three, Estrada dropped Santizo with a hard left hook to the head. In round four, it was another left that sent Santizo down and the fight was stopped at 1:51.

Estrada, 104.6 lbs of East Los Angeles, CA is 22-0 with 14 knockouts. Santizo, 103.8 lbs of Guatamala City, GUA is 9-1.

“I give my performance a ‘C’ today because I was getting too ahead of myself. I wanted to the knockout too early so I got caught a few times trying to set it up,” said Estrada. “She was a tough fighter, she is 9-0 with 5 knock outs for a reason, so I knew she was coming in to win. But I knew I had to stop her I just had to be more patient. In 2022 I want to unify the division with a fight against IBF World Champion Yokasta Valle from Costa Rica.”

“Honestly I felt super prepared for this fight,” said Santizo. Seniesa, however, knew how to connect. We fell to the canvas but I feel good, I think maybe the stoppage was too anticipated. But I defer to the referee who is there to protect our health. Now I have to go back to the gym, train and wait for the next opportunity.”

Roach Decisions Alvarado

Lamont Roach Jr. won a 10-round unanimous decision over former world champion Rene Alvarado in a super featherweight bout.

“I feel good about this victory. I just beat a man who was a world champion two fights ago,” said Roach, Jr. “This is the type of victory that I need to show that I am ready for a world title fight. Rene Alvarado is a warrior, a tough guy who I couldn’t knock down, but I feel we did our job today. I want the champion next, Roger Gutierrez.”

“I don’t know what to do anymore. The job we did today was excellent,” said Alvarado. “On my count I believe the fight was mine. When I heard unanimous decision, I knew that was right, but when they said Roach, Jr.’s name I couldn’t believe it. I know I won the fight.”

Marlen Esparza retained the WBC Flyweight title with a unanimous decision over Anabel Ortiz

In round two, Ortiz went down and was scored a knockdown.

“My performance was good considering I just came back after contracting Covid-19,” said Esparza. “I wanted to see what it would feel like to come back and I can say that there is some fatigue. We knew she was a counter puncher so we were prepared for it, but I can feel a little of the fatigue. Now that is all over and I know what it feels to come back, I want all the belts. I want Naoko Fujioka from Japan and just unify this division.”

“I think I delivered a great fight, simply the referee did not favor me,” said Ortiz. “He counted two slips that were obviously not knockdowns, she pushed me. I am very unhappy because they put someone in the ring who does not know how to do his job, especially when this is a world title fight. It is a disservice to the sport. They took the victory away from me.”

Victor Morales and Rudy Garcia battled to a 10-round draw featuring undefeated featherweights.

Morales won a card 97-93; Garcia won a 96-94 tally and a third card was even at 95-95.

“I am really upset with the decision, because I feel like I won that fight,” said Garcia. “Morales is a good fighter, I know him from the amateur world, but I think that I pulled off the victory in the end. I really want the re-match to prove that I won this fight.”

“I feel like I won the fight. I feel like I broke him down from the very beginning,” said Morales. “Yes, we got hit. I got things to work on, but I still feel like I won this fight. Let’s do the re-match next, let’s run it back and prove who is the best.”

Ruslan Madiyev won a 10-round unanimous decision over Luis Hernandez in a welterweight bout.

“I had seen past fight footage of Hernandez and I noticed that he kept his left hand down,” said Madiyev. “So I made sure to prepare and attack with that right hook, and I kept catching him. I am very proud of my team for the amazing preparation, and I can’t wait to come back in the ring and fight for a title soon.”

Kendo “Tremendo” Castaneda fighting at home in San Antonio for his boxing future

LAS VEGAS (December 16, 2021) – Former North American Boxing Association (NABA) Welterweight Champion Kendo “Tremendo” Castaneda (17-4, 8 KOs) challenges undefeated, reigning North American Boxing Federation welterweight title holder Raul “Cougar” Curiel (10-0, 8 KOs) in a 10-round bout this Saturday night at AT&T Center in San Antonio.

Curiel vs. Castaneda is on a loaded card, presented by Golden Boy Promotions and headlined by the World Boxing Association (WBA) light heavyweight title eliminator between Gilberto “Zurdo” Ramirez (42-0, 28 KOs) and Yunieski “Monster” Gonzalez (21-3, 17 KOs), streaming live on DAZN. The winner will become the mandatory challenger for WBA Super Light Heavyweight World Champion Dmitry Bivol (19-0, 11 KOs).

This is a potential career-changing fight for Castaneda, who won his first 17 pro fights before losing his last four matches. It should be noted that, keeping it in perspective, all four of Castaneda’s losses were fought in his opponent’s backyard and/or on their promoter’s show, and their combined record was 88-5.

“This is a career-changing fight for me because it puts me as a top-notch welterweight to reckon with,” explained the 28-year-old Castaneda, who is promoted by Roy Jones, Jr., (RJJ) Boxing Promotions. “An impressive win can get me a big fight in the welterweight division.”

Castaneda will still be taking on the promoter’s fighter, but this time “Tremendo” will have the advantage of fighting at home in San Antonio for the first time in more than 2 ½ years.

“It feels great to be fighting back at home since all the time I’ve been away,” Castaneda said. “I honestly don’t like traveling much. I miss my home crowed because all my fan support is here in San Antonio. Having my city behind me means the world to me.

Castaneda, who has never been stopped as a prizefighter, is fighting one of Golden Boy’s brightest prospects in 2016 Mexican Olympian Curiel, who will be making his first title defense of the NABF crown he captured this past June, stopping Ferdinand Kerobyan (14-1) in the ninth road.

“I believe I will outbox my opponent for 10 rounds and get a unanimous decision win,” Castaneda concluded. “I’d never heard of him. I’m ready for whatever comes my way, and I will execute for a victory.”

Kendo Castaneda is at the crossroads of his career needing to live up to his “Tremendo” nickname in order to turnaround his career.

Garcia Gets off the Deck; Stops Campbell in 7

Ryan Garcia scored the biggest win of his career as he survived a hard 2nd round knockdown and come back and stopped former world title challenger Luke Campbell and win the WBC Interim Lightweight championship at the American Airlines Center in Dallas, Texas.

In round two, Campbell shockingly landed a perfect straight left to the jaw that sent Garcia to the canvas for the 1st time in his career. Garcia was able to steady himself and win the balance of the rounds.

In round seven, Garcia landed a vicious left to the body that sent Campbell down on all fours for the 10-count at 1:38.

Garcia, 135 lbs of Victorville, CA is now 21-0 with 18 knockouts. Campbell, 135 lbs of Hull, ENG is 20-4.

My performance definitely showed a lot of people who I really am,” said Ryan Garcia. “Going into this fight I wanted to show people that you are not what people call you. You are what you choose to be. I chose to be a champion tonight. I didn’t let anything stop me from being a champion tonight. Even when he dropped me, I knew that couldn’t stop me from being champion.”

“I got too excited in the moment. I felt I could just walk him down, but he ended up cracking me. So, I had to adjust and calm down. I knew that I could beat him. I had to show that I was a warrior. I was a little dizzy with the knockdown, but I wasn’t worried. He’s not used to going forward, so I just knew I had to cover up.”

“He never fights coming forward, so I knew he would back up throughout the fight. I’m naturally a counterpuncher. But today I showed that I can be aggressive, go forward and take it to somebody. I showed I can take it to somebody and knock them out. God told me that it would end with a body shot, and that’s what happened. I want to thank God.”

On The Future:

“I want to be a man of my word. I want Gervonta “Tank” Davis. I am ready. People are worried about that one. I want Tank Davis. I would also fight Devin Haney, too.”

Luke:

“He’s very heavy handed. Even when I was blocking the shots, I could feel them. That was the hardest shot I was ever hit with. I tried and tried to get up, but I couldn’t. I felt him coming on, and I was moving back, and when you move back my body relaxed a little bit and that’s the exact time he hit me.”

He did so well to get up from the shot in the second round! I felt that through my arm and knew it was a beauty but all credit to him, he got up and show he’s got real heart.

It was a great fight and I knew I was right in the fight and thought I was having a good round in the seventh, but that was just a fantastic body shot. I was ready to attack again and he just timed the punch perfectly, I wanted to beat the count but just couldn’t, you just have to hold your hands up and say it was a great shot from a very talented fighter who is going to go a long way.

OSCAR QUOTE:

“This is the kind of fight where superstars are made. Down on the mat early for the first time in his career, Ryan got up, rallied, broke down his man and got the knockout. Everyone in the lightweight division should consider themselves on notice. 2021 will be the year of Ryan García.”

Gutierrez drops Alvarado 3 times; Wins 130 lb. Title

Roger Gutierrez won the WBA Super Featherweight title with a 12-round unanimous decision over Rene Alvarado

Gutierrez, 129 lbs of Maricalbo, VEN won by scores of 114-113 on all cards, and is now 25-3-1. Alvarado, 129.4 lbs of Managua, NIC is 32-9.

Alvarado stops Kriel in 10; Retains Light Flyweight Title

Felix Alvarado defended his IBF Light Flyweight Title with a 10th round stoppage over former 105 pound champion Deejay Kriel.

In round two, Alvarado landed a big left hook that sent Kriel to the deck. In round four, it was almost the exact same scenario as Alvarado landed a hige left hook that put Kriel down again.

Kriel showed signs of coming back, but his punches were not enough to keep Kriel off of him. In round 10, Alvarado landed a series of punches that forced the referee stoppage at 1:39.

Alvarado, 107.4 lbs of Managua, NIC is 36-2 with 31 knockouts. Kriel, 107.4 lbs of Gautang, SA is 16-2-1.

“I knew this would be a tough fight,” said Felix Alvarado. “He was a mandatory challenger and a former world champion, so I knew it would be tough. I got a bit tired, but that was because of his experience. I also dropped him with a hook, and I didn’t even expect for a punch like that to land. But rather than keep looking for that punch, I kept pushing him to the ropes to wear him down. I’m very happy to obtain this win because it is a dream come true for the Alvarado brothers to fight on such a big card together. I want any of the other world champions so I can show who is the best in the division.”

Curiel stops Agaton in 2

Raul Curiel remained undefeated with a 2nd round stoppage over late-replacement Ramses Agaton in a scheduled eight-round middleweight bout.

“There were so many things going as we went into this fight,” said Sean Garcia. “I was a bit nervous. I came off of a year-and-half layoff. I had to find my distance. It was also hard to land shots on him because of his unorthodox style.  Now, I just have to keep training hard and learn from my mistakes.”

Alex Rincon remained undefeated with a six-round unanimous decision over Sergio Gonzalez in a middleweight fight.

Rincon, 155.4 lbs of Dallas won by scores of 60-54 scores and is now 8-0. Gonzalez, 155.8 lbs of Mexico is 6-8-1.
