“I came very well prepared,” said Roberto Ortiz. “I prepared knowing full well that Cano is very strong. I have known him for a long time, and I know how powerful he is. I was able to connect on him early in the fight, but his strong will allowed him to come back and stop me.”

In round five, Sandoval landed a left that put Gonzalez down. Moments later, Sandoval landed a hard straight right that sent Gonzalez down again/ Gonzalez got to his feet, but the fight was stopped.

Jacobs Outpoints Arias In Long Island

UNIONDALE, NY — Daniel “The Miracle Man” Jacobs (33-2, 29KO) earned a unanimous decision victory over Luis Arias (18-1, 9KO) in a twelve round middleweight contest at the Nassau Veterans Memorial Coliseum. The bout headlined the first ever fight card promoted on US soil by Britain’s lead promoter, Eddie Hearn, and his company’s newly created American branch, Matchroom Boxing USA. The fight also marked the first of a three fight HBO deal that Matchroom and Jacobs signed earlier this year.

The Brooklyn-born Jacobs started fast, landing a big right hand behind Arias’ head that buzzed his 27 year old counterpart. Jacobs followed up quickly, perhaps envisioning a Peter Quillin repeat, and quickly bombarded “Cuba” with lefts and rights. Jacobs was unable to replicate his first round magic, however, and Arias survive the barrage.

The 30 year old Jacobs controlled to early-middle rounds, out-boxing Arias, dishing out the more punishing blows, while slipping most of Arias’ return-fire. Jacobs kept his Milwaukee-born foe under pressure for most of the contest, forcing him to fight off his back foot, having to slip punches before he could throw any of his own.

The middle rounds saw quality boxing, with Jacobs consistently besting Arias, who is trained by John David Jackson, during their exchanges. But even when Arias had success, like he did in the sixth when he landed a nice clean one-two, Jacobs responded with his own combinations, and closed the round with a hellacious flurry that may have stolen the round on some judge’s cards.

In the tenth, a Jacobs left hand hurt Arias, who absorbed a few more blows before initiating a clinch. The 30 year old Jacobs continued to press the action for the rest of the tenth and for the two subsequent rounds, seemingly making a conscious effort to try and stop Arias. In the eleventh, a Jacobs punch knocked Arias off-balance to the point where his glove scraped the mat and a knockdown was scored. A stoppage, however, wasn’t meant to be, and the durable Arias fought till the final bell.

All three judges scored the contest in favor of Jacobs. Judge Julie Lederman scored it a shutout, 120-107, Steve Weisfeld had it 119-108, and Larry Hazzard, Jr., 118-109.

The victory marked another chapter written in the Danny Jacobs storybook. From his 2010 defeat via 5th round KO at the hands of Dmitry Pirog, to his battle with osteosarcoma, a form of bone cancer, “The Miracle Man” has risen off the mat in both life and the ring. With two more dates guaranteed on HBO, Jacobs is now in position to take on some of the middleweight power players. Dates with David Lemieux, Canelo Alvarez, and GGG are all reasonable possibilities in 2018.

Huge Win For “Big Baby” — Miller Stops Wach In 8

In a battle of heavyweight contenders, Jarrell “Big Baby” Miller (20-0-1, 17KO) wore down former world title challenger Mariusz Wach (33-3, 17KO), en route to a ninth round TKO victory. It was an impressive effort from the 6’4” Miller, who cut sixteen pounds off his previous fight weight, slimming down to a trim 283lbs.

Throughout the fight, the ex-kickboxer-turned-boxer Miller pressed forward, repeatedly forcing his 6’7” counterpart to choose between expending energy fending him off or finding himself on the receiving end of “Big Baby” barrages. By the third round, the constant pressure was beginning to get to the Polish native, Wach, who was visibly tiring and breathing through his mouth.

Sometime during the early rounds, perhaps during the fifth round, Wach seemingly suffered a left hand injury. He complained of pain to his corner and had a brief conversation with the ringside physician before continuing on.

In the seventh, Miller began to hurt Wach, reigning down a flurry of punches which forced Wach to retreat, while Miller pursued. The giant Pole was able to weather the seventh round storm and live to see another round.

But he wouldn’t live to make it out of the eight. About a minute into the round, the ringside physician stepped up onto the apron and advised referee David Fields to call a stop to the bout, which he did at the 1:02 mark of round eight.

The fight marked only the second time in Wach’s thirty-six fight career he was stopped. The other time coming courtesy of Alexander Povetkin.

Seldin Hammers Ortiz, Stops Him In Three

Cletus “The Hebrew Hammer” Seldin (21-0, 17KO) dazzled in his HBO debut, bloodying and battering Roberto Ortiz (35-2-2, 26KO) over the course of two-plus rounds. The 31 year old Seldin delivered loaded right after loaded right to his Mexican counterpart, who twice hit the mat in the bout’s opening round. Seldin, who riled up his hometown crowd early by entering the ring to Hulk Hogan’s theme song and sporting an American flag bandana, continued to throw fully-cocked rights in the second round and opened a nasty gash over Ortiz’s left eye that immediately started streaming blood. The veteran Mexican had no answer for the Seldon right hand, and continued to eat shots to the left side of the face. Eventually, after an accidental clash, referee Shada Murdaugh called timeout so a ringside physician could inspect Ortiz’s cut. The doctor ultimately advised Murdaugh to call a halt to the contest. The official time of the stoppage was 2:43 of the third round.

For Seldin, this marked only the sixth time he has fought outside of Huntington, NY’s Paramount Theater in his twenty-one fight career. For Ortiz, this was just his second fight on US soil, and his second loss. His other loss came at the hands of Lucas Matthysse in 2014.

Benn Destroys Sanudo In US Debut

Britain’s Conor “The Destroyer” Benn (10-0, 8KO) made quite the introduction to US boxing fans, scoring a vicious second round KO over Mexican Brandon Sanudo (7-7, 4 KO), in a welterweight contest originally slated for six. Benn, the son of former two-division world champion, Nigel Benn, became the first of Matchroom Sport’s British boxers to fight on a Matchroom Sport promotional card on American soil. Benn controlled the fight’s first round, operating in a composed manner, working well behind his jab. In the second, the 21 year old Brit picked up his offense, and moved forward with fury. With Sanudo backing up toward the ropes, Benn landed a thudding left to the liver that dropped Sanudo to all fours. With referee Tony Chiarantano administering a ten count over him, Sanudo spit out his mouthpiece, grimaced, and remained on all fours until the contest was waved off. The official time of the knockout came at the 1-minute mark of round two.

Hernandez Wins Hard Fought Decision Over Dezurn

Jesse Angel Hernandez (10-1, 7KO) handed Glenn Dezurn (9-1-1, 6 KO) his first career loss when he scored a unanimous decision victory in an eight round bantamweight contest. Hernandez used his height and reach advantage to keep the smaller Dezurn at bay, punishing him each time he tried to get inside his reach. Despite his physical disadvantage, Dezurn, a 30 year old Baltimore native, turned in a spirited effort against Hernandez, who was a clear step up in competition for Dezurn. For the Texas southpaw, Hernandez, 2017 continues to be a career-defining year, having seen him hand his previous two opponents their first career losses. In August, Hernandez stopped the formerly unbeaten Vladimir Tikhonov. Tonight, judges scorecards of 79-73, 78-74, and 77-75 for Hernandez resulted in Dezurn tasting defeat for the first time, and Hernandez cementing his contender status.

Rainone and Sosa Battle To Draw

Long Island native Tommy “Razor” Rainone and Dominican-born New Jerseyan George Sosa (16-10, 15KO) battled their way to a majority draw in a six round welterweight contest. It was a hard-fought, gutsy affair, that mostly saw Sosa the aggressor and the southpaw, Rainone, fighting off his back foot. At times, both boxers landed clean shots, though the 37-year old Rainone’s effective punches were fewer and farther between than those of his counterpart. At the end of six, there was little doubt Rainone’s face was worse for the wear, courtesy of Sosa’s two gloved fists. At the end of six, the judges were split, however. Tony Paolillo’s 59-55 scorecard for Sosa was overruled by John McKaie and Jim Pierce’s scores of a 57-57 draw. 15rounds.com scored the bout 59-55 for Sosa.

The draw was the first of Sosa’s career and adds more character to an already interesting record. Each of Sosa’s fifteen victories have come via stoppage and taken place in the Dominican Republic. On US soil, however, he hasn’t had much luck, winning only one time in ten attempts. The fight was a milestone for Rainone, as well. The “Razor” crossed over the 200 round mark in his career and now has 202 professional rounds under his belt.

Best Bet — Lucky Stays Unbeaten

Long Island native Tyrone James (6-0, 3KO) improved on his perfect record with a six round unanimous decision victory over “The Hudson Valley Kid”, Daniel Sostre (13-15-1, 5 KO). It was all James from opening to closing bell, as the hometown hero parlayed a minor height and reach advantage with superior athletic ability to dominate the contest for three minutes per round, for six rounds. Midway through the third James dropped his 33 year old counterpart courtesy of a right hand. Sostre, who has now lost 12 of his last 14 contests, was able to get off the mat and battle on till the final bell. In the end, all three judges scored widely for James, 60-53.

Lightning Strikes — Niyazov Stops Mauras In Five

Kazakh-born Staten Islander, Dimash “Lightning” Niyazov (13-0-3, 6 KO), disposed of hard-nosed Massachusetts native, Agustine Mauras (6-4-3, 3 KO), inside five rounds in a junior welterweight contest slated for six. The historic bout kicked-off the first US fight card promoted by Britain’s lead boxing promoter, Eddie Hearn, and his company’s new American branch, Matchroom Boxing USA. Niyazov dominated the first four rounds of the scrap, before cranking up the heat in the fifth, dropping Mauras with two right hands before landing a clean left on the button, prompting referee Tony Chiarantano to stop the action at the 2:55 mark of the fifth round.

Jacobs, 30, has risen to the upper echelon of the 160-pound division and seeks to regain a title belt after losing a close decision to pound-for-pound ace Gennady Golovkin last March. The undefeated Arias, 27, hopes to spring one of the year’s big upsets.

CLETUS “THE HEBREW HAMMER” SELDIN– ROBERTO “MASSA” ORTIZ MEDIA CONFERENCE CALL TRANSCRIPT

JOE DeGUARDIA/STAR BOXING: I want to welcome everyone; we are really pleased that we are going to be featuring Cletus Seldin against Roberto Ortiz with Golden Boy Promotions at the fights on November 11 at the Nassau Coliseum. We congratulate Eddie Hearn on a very exciting triple header and certainly it is always great to be back on HBO, the premier network in boxing and certainly to be at the Nassau Coliseum when we have been so active in Long Island. Seldin v. Ortiz is the type of fight that’s a throwback to the 1920′ and ’30’s – it’s the heart of boxing when you have two guys that are bangers and punchers coming forward and coming after each other and fighting the way fans like to see. I’m really looking forward to this night.

ROBERT DIAZ/GOLDEN BOY PROMOTIONS: Like Joe said, we are excited, we are on the No. 1 network and it’s a can’t miss. It’s a can’t miss because of their styles. Ortiz, you have seen him, he tried to get on the fight with Orozco and we all know what happened there but now he is given another opportunity against an undefeated fighter and a win here . . . they know what a win here at this level means for both fighters. It’s a make or break. They are coming in for the bigger fights and they have to go in there and perform. Joe we are looking forward to working with you and we are ready.

ROBERT DIAZ: Everyone, with a record of 35-1, 2 draw, 26 knockouts, Roberto “El Massa” Ortiz.

ROBERTO ORTIZ: I am very excited. I am very grateful for the opportunity that HBO, Golden Boy, my co-promoters Cancun Boxing and Pepe Gomez, my manger Memo Rocha has given me. I’m very excited for November 11 and the opportunity that brings me.

JOE DeGUARDIA: What a tremendous fight. You have a guy that’s 35-1 with 26 knockouts fighting against a guy that’s 20-0 with 16 knockouts. This is really what boxing’s about – two exciting styles and I’m very pleased to introduce Cletus Seldin. You heard Eddie Hearn earlier speaking about character and personality – this guy is really a throwback to the heart of the Jewish fighters – the kind of character that he’s got – the trunks and jacket and he’s a fighter. He’s a Long Island fighter, undefeated, built up at The Paramount where we’ve been so successful in creating guys like Chris Algieri, Joe Smith and now Cletus Seldin. He’s going to be our next big star – he’s graduating from The Paramount and now fighting at the Nassau Coliseum on HBO. He’s been packing them in at The Paramount, he’s very exciting and I’m very pleased to announce and introduce Cletus “The Hebrew Hammer” Seldin.

CLETUS SELDIN: Hey guys, Cletus here, I am so excited, so pumped, so ecstatic to be involved in this particular fight at the Nassau Coliseum. It’s literally going to be two gladiators fighting – two warriors – and we are fighting for it all. We all know what’s at stake and we are putting everything towards this. I literally went from one fight, took a week off, then went into this fight. I jumped on it with smiles, I didn’t even know who the opponent was, I just couldn’t wait to get in the ring and fight again. I am excited and I am ready to bring every single thing that I have into this fight. I am training currently in West Palm Beach, Florida with Pete Brodsky again and we have what it takes to take it to the next level and I am going to guarantee an action packed fight that will most likely end before the ten rounds.

What does it mean, as a Long Islander, to fight at the Coliseum?

CLETUS SELDIN: Being, literally, a Long Island person, I’m literally putting everything I can into moving forward and for me to be a part of Star Boxing and this being our first time out – I am taking this to the next limit. I don’t even know what the amount of tickets that will be sold (to my fans) – probably 700-1000 tickets. It’s incredible. People are buying and I am really impressed on the outcome of that. Moving forward, right after this fight – considering that Orozco and Ortiz were supposed to be almost a title-eliminator kind of fight, I believe that our next step would be in that direction. If this is a title eliminator we could go after Crawford or any of the titles that have been vacated or whatever is going to be out there. So that is definitely on my mind.

When you win the title will you feel as though you are representing the Jewish people?

CLETUS SELDIN: Absolutely, I come in the ring wearing the Star of David on my trunks. On the back of my jacket it says “Remember the Masada.” My trainers, my managers, they are all Jewish and I’m like ‘the guy’ because there aren’t that many Jewish athletes in professional sports today and for me to be a part of boxing and be able to speak my mind the way I want to is by far one of the greatest gifts that I could give back to the Jewish community. I have been going to the concentration camps events. I do ribbon cuttings with concentration camp survivors. I go to all of these little events on Long Island to help support and to push the Jewish boxing name that I have right now. I love it because a lot of the kids, Jewish kids, they don’t know that there are professional boxers out there – we are all supposed to be doctors and lawyers and I have been pushing on that. Boxing is like life – everyone knows that – it’s a fight – so there you have it.

What part of Long Island did you grow up in and have you fought at the Coliseum before?

CLETUS SELDIN: I have not fought at any level at the Coliseum. The only time I have been there is for a Comic Con – I like nerdy stuff. I haven’t been in that venue yet but to me it’s just another fight where I come in and I am a wrecking machine, just like every other one. You guys have seen my fights – that’s exactly how I fight and how hard I punch.

CLETUS SELDIN: I grew up in Shirley, New York on Long Island. I went to Longwood High School and going to high school there was only three or four Jewish guys, so we are all friends and we all know each other and I love that we still have that relationship.

How forward are you looking to fighting a guy that has fought top notch fighters in his career?

CLETUS SELDIN: Every day I wake up so happy because this is where I wanted to be in my career. I am 20-0 right now and I am ready to make that next step and everybody who watched my fights and watched me get built up knows it’s time. I always get the question ‘when is the time?’ It actually came now and it came at the perfect time because I just fought and I am in great shape and I am ready to put on one of the best shows that HBO is going to have that night. I always say it, whether I am the first fight or the last fight, my fights are always the best fights.

How much does it motivate you when you here “oh, he hasn’t fought anybody, let’s see how he does against a higher level guy?’

CLETUS SELDIN: Actually it doesn’t give me any motivation because I know how much work and effort I put into each fight. It doesn’t matter if I’m fighting a guy like Renald Garrido who I just fought – he was 19-15 but he was able to fight. All the other guys were good fighters but I just make sure that I train as if it was always a world championship fight or a main event or a televised fight on HBO. I have been going to training camp since the first fight of my entire career so I am used to knowing what hard work is.

How much has Algieri and Smith inspired you – as they went from The Paramount to the high levels?

CLETUS SELDIN: Absolutely – seeing those guys get there, New York state had that issue with their insurance policies – I just kept telling myself ‘don’t sorry about it, just keep working hard because it is going to happen, Star Boxing has done it before multiple times so don’t stop.’ I just continue to never stop training and I wasn’t going to wait until a bigger fight was going to come. Even afterward, we may be back at the Paramount because I want to stay busy – I want to stay active. I really don’t want to fight three or four time, I want to fight six or seven times a year. That’s the kind of stance that I want to take in my career.

How far is the town that you grew up in from the Coliseum?

CLETUS SELDIN: It’s about an hour ride. I live in Middle Island, Suffolk County – I live right in the middle. I remember going there as a kid – going to the circus, seeing some hockey games – it was like a little family vacation for my family.

What kind of challenge do you think Cletus will present to you?

ROBERTO ORTIZ: I know he’s a strong fighter. He moves forward. He is aggressive. I know he’s hungry for a victory, but you know what? I’m hungry too. I’m actually hungrier than him because of all the work that I have put in over the years that all that has gotten me here to get this opportunity and I’m not going to let it go. You will see on November 11.

You have been having open training sessions with the fans and the kids – since the two fights are so close together will you be able to do that?

CLETUS SELDIN: Yes we are, we literally just committed to it just a few hours ago. It is pretty much a new tradition that we do for the fights, we have a little open workout in Riverhead, my hometown, and people and all the kids come in there and we work out with them and show them stuff. I always get messages on Instagram and on Twitter of people posting a sharing that their kid is now going into boxing three days a week and it is definitely one of the better parts of finishing out the training camp.

JOE DeGUARDIA: Let me just add to that – Cletus has a real busy schedule the week of – we are going to be doing a Long Island event on Tuesday, we have fighter workouts on Wednesday and Thursday is the press conference and Friday obviously the weigh-in and I specifically spoke to Cletus and said you know you are going to have a busy schedule – are you sure you want to do this thing you do every Saturday before, and he said ‘absolutely, I’ve got to do it for the kids and I still want to do it,’ so he is going to do the open workout on Saturday for all the kids at the gym.

Where did you grow up?

CLETUS SELDIN: I grew up in Shirley and I moved to and currently live in Bayshore so it’s about an hour ride from Middle Island to the Coliseum.

How did MMA prepare you for boxing?

CLETUS SELDIN: My entire athletic career prepared me for boxing – it’s the one thing I have an advantage of over every single person that walks into a boxing ring. I played football, I was a body builder, wrestled, and I started doing MMA before these other boxers. You can’t teach to the other boxers what I have – I am a strong, strong human being that nobody will be able to find at 140-147 pounds, in this entire world, that can punch, take a punch and knows strategy like myself.

NYPD’s Dimash Niyazov Added to November 11 Jacobs vs Arias card

Long Island, NY — Undefeated New York City police officer Dimash “Lightning” Niyazov (12-0, 5 KOs) born in Shymkent, Kazakhstan, now residing in Staten Island, NY, will fight in a six-round lightweight bout on the non-televised portion of the Jacobs vs. Arias fight card on Saturday, November 11 at NYCB LIVE, home of the Nassau Veterans Memorial Coliseum.

“I haven’t fought in NY in a long time,” (August 28, 2015 to be exact) said Dimash. “My most recent fights were out of state and last one overseas. I can’t wait to see all my fans at home. They all have been waiting for me to fight here. It’s time I bring the shine back home, to my friends and fans.

Dimash, as well as Jarrell Miller, is promoted by Dmitriy Salita’s Salita Promotions. The Ukrainian born Salita is a former world title challenger and resides in Brooklyn. Dimash became a member New York City’s finest three years ago and is based in Brooklyn.

“Dimash is a talented fighter who exemplifies the American dream, which he is living out right now in New York City,” said Salita. “He is an exciting, popular fighter that brings excitement to every one of his matches.”

Dimash was introduced to boxing at 4 years old in native Kazakhstan. At age 5 he began to dedicate his time to gymnastics until at 13, when his family moved to the USA, his father began to train him in boxing once again. “Ever since then I have been in the hurt business,” said Dimash with a smile.

As an amateur, Niyazov had 30 wins against only 3 losses. He won the NY Empire State Games and NY Metros. He also traveled with the Kazakhstan team to China prior to the Beijing Olympics. “I trained in Beijing for two months,” said Dimash about that incredible opportunity. “And that helped me win the NY Metros.”

Currently, Dimash trains in Brooklyn at the Fight Factory Gym with his father who is his main coach and Akmal Zakirov, his second coach. He trains a couple of hours every day. “I’m excited to fight on the Jacobs card,” said Dimash. “I’ve known Danny since I was a teen when we trained in Coney Island houses. He came a long way and I’m proud of him. He gave my countryman GGG (Gennady Golovkin) a tough fight.”

Fighting out of Brooklyn, NY, Seldin is a former WBC International Silver Super Lightweight Champion who has plowed through the competition with devastating power resulting in 78 percent of his fights ending by knockout.

“I’m absolutely ecstatic to fight for the first time on HBO and represent Star Boxing at the Coliseum,” Seldin said “I see this as the second start to my career, this is a great opportunity and now that I have it there’s no turning back, I’m here to stay — bigger fights, bigger venues and on HBO. I just fought recently but as soon as they called about this fight I jumped at it. I’ll be more than ready for Roberto Ortiz on November 11.”

Ortiz, from Torrean, Mexico, has torn through 35 opponents including 10 defenses of the WBC Silver Super Lightweight Championship over three years. The sole blemish on his record came against former Interim WBC World Super Lightweight Champion Lucas “La Maquina” Matthysse.

“We are going to take advantage of every opportunity, and we are thankful to GBP, Star Boxing, and HBO who have supported us,” Ortiz said. “I am confident I will be able to prove that I am someone to mess with in this sport. We know we are going up against an undefeated fighter, who is powerful. Our mental game will have to be at 100%, and we will have to have the perfect strategy to be able to take him down and leave with the victory. I am hopeful that our styles will give a great fight, and give a performance that everyone can appreciate come fight night.”

“’Massa’ Ortiz has built a real fan base throughout Mexico because of his action-packed style and power in both hands, and we’re excited to showcase him to a global audience on HBO,” said Golden Boy Promotions CEO and Chairman Oscar De La Hoya.

San Francisco native Martha “The Shadow” Salazar has long set a high bar for women in the heavyweight division, fighting all comers since her debut in 2001, including Kisha Snow, Vonda Ward and Marsha Valley, winning the WIBF championship in the process. In 2013, following a six-year break from the sport, Salazar returned to the ring with a victory over highly-regarded Sonya “The Scholar” Lamonakis, and one fight later, on November 8, 2014, she shut out Tanzee “Sweet Tea” Daniel to win the WBC Women’s Heavyweight World Championship. On March 18, the 46-year-old makes her first title defense.

Mexico City’s Alejandra “La Tigre” Jimenez turned professional in 2014, and since then, the 28-year-old “La Tigre” has risen quickly to the top of the heavyweight division, with three wins in 2015 putting her in a title fight against Salazar. Fresh from a second-round technical knockout victory of Carmen Garcia on November 27, this hard-hitting rising star hopes to bring a world title home to Mexico when she faces one of the sport’s most respected champions.

Torreon, Coahuila de Zaragoza, Mexico’s super lightweight contender Roberto “Massa” Ortiz is the winner of two consecutive victory since his first suffering his first defeat at the hands of the heavy-handed, Lucas “La Maquina” Matthysse in 2014. So far, he has his sights on getting back into the title picture defeating Juan Jesus Rivera and Nestor Fernando Garcia. But first, he must turn back the challenge of the upset-minded Salgado, a hard-hitting 31-year-old from Cartagena who is coming off the biggest win of his career over longtime contender Walter Estrada in February.

A thunderous puncher who has ended eight of his nine professional victories by knockout, Cancun’s Ricardo Perez has won three consecutive bouts dating back to 2014, with two of those victories earning him the WBC Silver title in the minimum weight and light flyweight divisions. Now firmly established at 108 pounds, the 24-year-old looks to follow up his technical knockout win over Noe Medina last August with another signature victory in his hometown on March 18. Standing in Perez’ way is Barranquilla’s Mauricio Fuentes, a former world title challenger looking to spoil his opponent’s homecoming.

Unbeaten in eleven fights since 2012, 20-year-old phenom Roberto “Tito” Manzanarez makes his first appearance of 2016 on March 18. Manzanarez has been on a wining streak defeated seasoned veterans Ricardo “Piolo” Castillo and Hector “Charro Negro” Velasquez and in 2015 Manzanarez defeated Edgar “Lupillo” Ramirez, Daniel “El Mulato” Valenzuela, and Christian “Veneno” Lopez. Now in 2016, Carlos Adam Jacobo is standing in his way to championship glory. Former holder of the WBC Fecombox Super Bantamweight Title, Jacobo has had an up-and-down career since his professional debut in 2008. The fighter is known to be a warrior in the ring and will be looking to start off 2016 on the right foot when he goes up against Manazanarez on March 18.

HARD-HITTING TRIPLE HEADER IN MEXICO CITY TOMORROW ON FOX DEPORTES AND CLARO SPORTS

LOS ANGELES (April 23) – FOX Deportes and CLARO Sports will be in Mexico City, Mexico, tomorrow, Friday, April 24, as super lightweight contender Roberto “Massa” Ortiz returns in a 10-round bout against Juan Jesus “Burbuja” Rivera at the Foro Polanco Masaryk.

In the co-main event, hometown favorite Judith “La Peligrosa” Rodriguez defends her WBC Silver Super Flyweight Title against Guadalupe “Lupita” Martinez. Opening up the televised action Adan “Speedy” Mares of Guadalajara, Jalisco, Mexico, takes on Luis “Titan” Sanchez of Cancun, Quintana Roo, Mexico in an eight-round lightweight fight.

Ortiz vs. Rivera is presented by Golden Boy Promotions and Cancun Boxing de Pepe Gomez. The FOX Deportes tripleheader broadcast airs at 10:00 p.m. ET / 7:00 p.m. PT. Claro Sports broadcast airs at 10:00 p.m. ET / 7:00 p.m. PT and beginning with the co-main event.

Owner of a stellar (31-1-1 24 KOs) professional record, Torreon’s Roberto “Massa” Ortiz is on a quest to start a new winning streak after suffering the lone loss of his career against the hard-punching Lucas Matthysse last September. Before the defeat, the 29-year-old was on the fast track to a world title shot after winning the WBC Silver Welterweight belt and defending it successfully nine times. Now it’s time for him to begin the road back to the top and that journey starts on Friday night.

Upset-minded Juan Jesus “Burbuja” Rivera (27-12, 17 KOs) always brings a fight to the ring, making him a tough opponent for anyone at 140 pounds. Winner of four of his last seven, the 34-year-old from Aguascalientes has faced several world-class fighters over the course of a career that began in 2004, so he’s not intimidated about a meeting against Ortiz; in fact, he’s looking forward to this week’s bout and his chance to shine.

A fighter with one of the most deceiving records in boxing, Mexico City’s Judith “La Peligrosa” Rodriguez (8-7, 5 KOs) has long been an underrated competitor at 115 pounds, but now the rest of the world is starting to see how good she is. A four-time world title challenger, Rodriguez has won her last two bouts against Aniya Seki and Salma Canales, and in her first bout at home since 2011, she’s looking to put on a show.

Five-time world title challenger Guadalupe “Lupita” Martinez (8-8, 3 KOs) has fit a lot of fighting into just 23 years, and the Tlalnepantla, Mexico native believes she’s only getting started. Fresh off a December 20 win over Marisol Molina, Martinez may be going into her opponent’s backyard on Friday, but she’s confident that she will leave Mexico City with a win as well as some new fans.

The brother of multiple-division world champion Abner Mares, Guadalajara’s Adan “Speedy” Mares (13-0-1, 3 KOs) is a well-schooled boxer looking to take his game to the next level in 2015. The 25-year-old must most recently defeated Los Mochis, Sinaloa, Mexico’s Miguel Angel Gonzalez in an exciting split decision win. Now, Mares is looking to continue his winning streak in 2015 with his first bout of the year against Luis Sanchez.

With five consecutive victories since 2013 against Luis Gonzalez, Jesus Cruz Bibiano, Adrian Padron, and Miguel Beltran, Luis “Titan” Sanchez is not ready to let his winning streak go when he faces Adan Mares on Friday. The Cancun native most recently defeated Alfonso Torres via split decision this past February in an exciting bout.

Before the trio of exciting fights gets underway Newark’s pride Michael “The Artist” Perez will battle for the WBA Fedelatin Super Lightweight Title against South Carolina’s Jared “The Quiet Storm” Robinson in a 10-round bout on SHOWTIME EXTREME® (live at 7 p.m. ET/PT, delayed on the West Coast). In the opening bout, Rau’shee Wareen will face Jose Luis Araiza in a 10-round bantamweight match.

On the non-televised portion of the card, three-time United States Olympian Terrell Gausha will face an opponent to be named in an middleweight bout.

Two-time welterweight world champion and former Haitian Olympian Andre Berto (28-3, 22 KOs) is consistently one of boxing’s most exciting fighters. Berto, coming off a year-long layoff and recouping from shoulder surgery, says he intends to remind fight fans of just that. Fully healed and coming off his thrilling 2013 bout with Jesus Soto Karass, the Winter Haven, Fla., native will celebrate his 31st birthday a day early when he performs for fight fans in Cincinnati against Upsher.

Philadelphia’s Steve Upsher (24-3-1, 6 KOs) has been a respected member of the east coast fight community for years and is known for his ring knowledge, boxing skill and heart. A pro since 2003, the 29-year-old came up the hard way on the Philly fight circuit, and while he’s looking to bounce back from losses to Eddie Gomez and Luis Collazo, he has all the tools to give Berto a rough night and spoil his comeback attempt.

The 24-year-old Michael Perez (20-1-2, 10 KOs) is on an impressive hot streak, as he’s gone 5-0-1 in his last six fights, a stretch that includes back-to-back wins over Miguel Zuniga and Jorge Romero in his most recent bouts. The 31-year-old Jared Robinson (15-1, 7 KOs) has been patient in his rise through the division, and this Sept. 6 bout is the one he’s been waiting for, as he hopes to shine on national television.

Rau’shee Warren (11-0, 3 KOs) has been a steady performer throughout his pro career, and on Sept. 6 he gets the opportunity to fight in his hometown of Cincinnati for the first time as a pro when he takes on Tecate Baja California, Mexico’s Jose Luis “Tapitas” Araiza (34-8-1, 25 KOs) in a 10-round bantamweight matchup. The 27-year-old Warren has dazzled against his opponents, barely losing a round in the process. The veteran Araiza, who has won two straight, will be Warren’s most experienced opponent to date.

Two of Warren’s 2012 Olympic teammates, Cleveland middleweight Terrell Gausha (11-0, 6 KOs) and New York lightweight Jamel Herring (8-0, 5 KOs), will also be back in action at the U.S. Bank Arena when they face opponents to be announced in eight-round bouts.

In other non-televised bouts, making the short trip from Toledo will be lightweight up-and-comer Robert Easter Jr. (10-0, 8 KOs), a hard-hitting talent who will take on a foe to be determined in a 10-round bout. Other Ohio favorites in action will be lightweight Raynell Williams (4-0, 3 KOs) of Cleveland and super welterweight Jamontay Clark (2-0, 2 KOs) of Cincinnati. Williams will face an opponent to be determined and Clark faces Bryan, Ohio’s Matthew Montalvo (0-0-1). Both bouts are scheduled for four rounds, as is a lightweight matchup between Washington, D.C.’s Lamont Roach (2-0, 1 KO) and Las Vegas’ Rocco Espinoza (4-8).
