AZEEZ vs FIELDING FOR COMMONWEALTH TITLE IN BOURNEMOUTH, SATURDAY DECEMBER 17

‘Super’ Dan Azeez will fight Rocky Fielding for the vacant Commonwealth light-heavyweight championship title when they battle on the beach at the Bournemouth International Centre on Saturday, December 17th

In the fight before Christmas, hometown hero Chris Billam-Smith takes on international challenger Armend Xhoxhaj as he looks to take a step closer towards a cruiserweight world title shot in 2023.

But there promises to be a storm by the sea for the chief support as British light heavyweight champion Azeez and Liverpudlian Fielding collide.

Azeez (17-0, 11 KOs) displayed his class in September when he outshone Shakan Pitters on Merseyside.

But the Londoner faces arguably the toughest test of his career to date as he looks to protect his flawless record against experienced world-level campaigner Fielding (30-2-0, 17 KOs) – whose only-ever defeats have come against Canelo Alvarez and Callum Smith.

Joining Azeez and Fielding on the bill is lightweight star Cori Gibbs, who faces Irish fighter Victor Rabei.

The Birmingham fighter, 29, is unbeaten with an impressive record of 17-0 (3 KOs).

Steven ‘Drago’ Robinson (5-1-0, 3 KOs) will look to upset the undefeated ‘Glasgow Warrior’ Nick Campbell (5-0, KOs) when the hard-hitting heavyweights meet on the undercard.

Campbell sparred with BOXXER’s Joseph Parker at Tyson Fury’s gym in Morecambe before the former world champion’s fight with Joe Joyce in September.

The Scot will out to make a name for himself with a big performance in Bournemouth.

?Rising Portsmouth welterweight Michael McKinson (22-1-0, 2 KOs) returns to action for the first time since his August defeat in Texas by Vergil Ortiz Jr

.?And local favourites Lee Cutler (11-1-0, 7 KOs) and Mace Ruegg (7-0) will be on hand to spread some early festive cheer as they look to close out 2022 with respective victories in front of their home fans.

Plus, Bournemouth will witness the debut of Hull super-welterweight Harvey Lambert.

Lambert, 24, enjoyed a dazzling amateur career winning as a member of the Team GB Podium Squad and was an Elite ABA champion and Tri Nation Champion too.? Lambert is keen to emulate the success of fellow-Hull native Luke Campbell and go on to enjoy an illustrious professional career – and he’ll be determined to start well with a winning debut.

ROCKY FIELDING ON CANELO’S ‘PRESENCE’ AND PREDICTS GGG FIGHT RESULT

LONDON, SEPTEMBER 16 – Rocky Fielding says fighting Saul ‘Canelo’ Alvarez is as mentally punishing as it is physically.

Liverpool’s Fielding put his WBA world super middleweight title on the line against the Mexican in December 2018 in New York, but Canelo was in destructive mood at Madison Square Garden that night and stopped Rocky inside three rounds.

Probellum fighter Fielding recalls the relentless “pressure” and “presence” of Alvarez and knows he was taught some valuable lessons about fighting at the very highest level of the sport.

And the 35-year-old is backing Canelo to come out on top in his trilogy clash with Gennady Golovkin this weekend.

“This was my first experience of fighting at that level,” Fielding told Probellum.com.

“And with Canelo, it was all about his front foot control and wherever you were in the ring, he could cut you off.  It was also like he was there before you.  He brought that pressure and that presence.

“At that level you must put your shots together at the right time and there is absolutely no switching off.  At the levels below, you can get away with mistakes but not against him.

“I did catch Canelo but he just shook it off and I thought to myself: ‘Bloody hell, it’s only the second round!’

“The first body shot he caught me with was like a swipe across the stomach which, in sparring, you would normally take.”

Canelo was moving up from middleweight to challenge Fielding, having beaten Golovkin in a rematch earlier in the year.

“I knew it was going to be tough night; he was coming up in weight and was fresh and strong,” he added.

“There was a 10lbs rehydration clause in the contract and while I wouldn’t normally put on much more weight than that, mentally it was a bit of a challenge because for the first time, I stepped off the scales and was having to think about how much I was putting in my body.

“‘Can I have this?’  and ‘Can I have that?’ before we weighed in again the next morning.”

Canelo and Golovkin controversially drew their first fight before the Mexican was given the nod in the rematch.

Fielding expects another entertaining fight but believes the younger Alvarez, who is undisputed super middleweight champion, to prevail.

“I think Canelo will beat GGG,” Fielding predicted.

“It will be a good fight, but I think Canelo has the better speed, reflexes and shot selection.

“Golovkin still carries his punch power, but Canelo has taken it over the course of two fights.  From round four, I expect them to stand in the middle of the ring and have it, with Canelo winning on points.”

Flanagan, Murray and Fielding to appear on July 12th MTK Show on ESPN+

Former world champions Terry Flanagan and Rocky Fielding along with Martin Murray will appear on a July 12th from Liverpool, England and be streamed by ESPN+, according to Dan Rafael of espn.com.

“I’m absolutely buzzing to be back. There’s no place like home and the Olympia is really where my career started,” he said. “I won (the) Prizefighter (tournament) there and then the English and British titles there too. It’s great to be back fighting in front of my home fans. I look at the top names in the division and I believe I’m still up there.

“I’m looking forward to training alongside my good mate Martin Murray for this one. The last time we were on a bill together, we both won titles, so it’ll be special for us both.”

“I believe I’m on a different level to him but for a comeback fight, it’s not going to be any kind of walkover. He’s coming to win,” Murray said. “With my skills as a boxer plus my superior physical attributes, I still plan on getting him out of there and look good doing it.”

“The plan is to stay busy to get myself back in contention at lightweight. MTK Global are giving me what I wanted by keeping me active,” said Flanagan, who will be in his first fight since signing with MTK Global. “A lot of times in the past I would have a fight and then not know when I was fighting again for a while, so by having a set out plan I know I’ll be keeping the ball rolling and it always feels more natural and normal when I fight. That’s when I’m at my best and that journey starts on July 12 in Liverpool.

“It’s a big show on ESPN+ with some great names on the bill but I’m sure my fans will be louder than anybody and make lots of noise. I’m looking forward to getting back out there and proving a bit of a point. This will probably be the final chapter of my career under MTK Global, but I feel the best is still yet to come.”

CANELO ALVAREZ VS. ROCKY FIELDING FINAL PRESS CONFERENCE QUOTES

NEW YORK CITY (Dec. 13, 2018) WBC, WBA, Lineal Middleweight World Champion
Canelo Alvarez (50-1-2, 34 KOs) and WBA Super Middleweight World Champion Rocky Fielding (27-1, 15 KOs) hosted a their final press conference today at Madison Square Garden ahead of their 12-round super middleweight fight. The battle will take place Saturday, Dec. 15 at the aforementioned Madison Square Garden in New York City and will be streamed live on DAZN – which, at just $9.99 per month after a one-month free trial, means new subscribers to DAZN will enjoy the entire Canelo vs. Rocky fight night for free.

They were joined by David Lemieux (40-4, 34 KOs), Tureano Johnson (20-2, 14 KOs), Sadam “World Kid” Ali (26-2, 14 KOs), Mauricio “El Maestro” Herrera (24-7, 7 KOs) and many other fighters from the undercard.

Below is what the fighters had to say at today’s final press conference:

CANELO ALVAREZ, WBC, WBA, Lineal and Ring Magazine Middleweight World Champion:
“I’m very happy to be here at Madison Square Garden. It’s just yet another story, another dream realized in my career and this new phase of my career with DAZN. I’m very happy and I’m motivated. Perhaps many don’t give the credit to Rocky Fielding that he deserves but for a reason, he’s a world champion. I know who he is, I’ve trained very hard, I know the challenge I have in front of me. I know that I have a tough fight but I like challenges and I know we’re going to make history. I’m ready for that.”

ROCKY FIELDING, WBA Super Middleweight World Champion:
“It’s great to be here. I was here years ago, sitting right at the top over there, watching a Knicks game, wishing one day to fight here. Now I’ve put a lot of work in, I’ve had a lot of setbacks, and here we are. It’s unbelievable. I’m looking forward to it I believe in myself. I come here as a champion, and that’s what champions do – they win, and they defend. This is a great opportunity and I’m very happy to be here.”

JOSE “CHEPO” REYNOSO, Manager and Trainer of Canelo Alvarez:
“Madison Square Garden, be prepared because Canelo is coming to conquer you and to write in the story of MSG.”

EDDY REYNOSO, Manager and Head Trainer of Canelo Alvarez:
“We know it’s going to be a tough fight. Every time a fighter moves up in weight, the fighter has to experiment on how he’s going to feel. Fielding is a strong fighter, he’s a tough fighter, but more than anything’s, he’s a world champion. We know we have a big compromise ahead and I’m taking the responsibility to make sure all the details are covered off on. I just hope that this Saturday, Mexico is excited for Canelo to become a three-division world champion. We’ve excited for him to join the exclusive history of Mexican boxing this Saturday.”

JAMIE MOORE, Trainer of Rocky Fielding:
“I think boxing’s all about timing. And Rocky Fielding made sure he was ready when he got the phone call for a world title with five weeks’ notice. It came at the right time for him. And when we got the phone call for the Canelo fight, he took it without hesitation. There’s weight divisions for a reason. I applaud Canelo, I admire his tenacity and his will to achieve greatness. But it’s all about timing. I just think that this is the right time for Rocky Fielding. He’s in a great place mentally and physically. And I’m looking forward to shocking the world and delivering a big upset.”

DAVID LEMIEUX, Former IBF Middleweight World Champion:
“I’m extremely happy to be back at Madison Square Garden. I was here three years ago in a unification fight with Golovkin. It didn’t turn out the way I wanted it to but over the years, I’ve learned a lot. I believe I’m at my peak. The greatest years are yet to come for me. Saturday night will be a step towards that. I promise everyone a great fight. Tureano Johnson is a great fighter, but we’ve trained extremely hard for him so we don’t have any surprises in the ring. Whatever he brings forward, I’ll take care of it.”

TUREANO JOHNSON, Middleweight Contender:
“It’s going to be an exciting night. I’m excited, I’m ready, I’m energized. I respect Lemieux. I have a lot of respect for him. You guys can expect an awesome fight. I’m definitely coming to bring it. Come Saturday night, they’re going to see a different Tureano – a more intelligent fighter.”

MAURICIO HERRERA, Former Interim WBA Super Lightweight Prospect:
“This is a great opportunity and I feel blessed to fight here at the Madison Square Garden. Sadam is a great fighter but I put on a great show as well. The both of us together will be a fight to remember.”

SADAM ALI, Former WBO Junior Middleweight World Champion
“I’m excited. I’m ready. This is a big fight, Every fight is a big fight. There’s nothing like fighting at home. It doesn’t get to happen every time but when it does, I’m excited and I’m ready.”

VERGIL ORTIZ JR, Super Lightweight Prospect
“I’m very happy to be fighting here at Madison Square Garden. For some reason I thought it’d be a square…it’s not a square. It’s my first fight in New York. Other than that, I’m just happy to be here.”

KATIE TAYLOR, WBA/IBF Lightweight World Champion
“I’m here to bring my very very best. I know [Eva’s] a great competitor and a fantastic fighter. I just can’t wait to put on an exciting fight.”

TEVIN FARMER, IBF Super Featherweight World Champion:
“I’m ready for Saturday. It’s another opportunity to show that I’m one of the best in the world.”

LAMONT ROACH JR., WBO International Super Featherweight Champion:
“I feel blessed to be on this stage. I’m going to kick it off with a bang.”

RYAN GARCIA, Lightweight Prospect:
“We had two months of nonstop work, really focused, and now I’m just ready to put on my best performance at Madison Square Garden. What better place than Madison Square Garden? I’m just ready to prove and show everybody what I’ve been improving on and what I’m going to bring for times to come.”

OSCAR DE LA HOYA, CEO and Chairman of Golden Boy Promotions:
“Ladies and gentlemen – pay-per-view is dead. I’m happy to announce that on Saturday night, Dec. 15, Canelo Álvarez will experience a lot of firsts: his first fight in the mecca of boxing at MSG, the first fight of this historical contract with DAZN, his first time traveling to the 168-pound weight class as he looks to make history as part of a small list of Mexican fighters to become a three-division world champion.”

“Rocky, who has the most recognizable first name in all of boxing, will look to take advantage of the opportunity of a lifetime.”

“If you can’t make it to the Garden, you can always download the app DAZN. And we are extremely proud to have been able to strike a deal with such visionaries – not only in the sport of boxing but in sports in general. For me, it’s a bittersweet moment to talk about pay-per-view being dead because my career was built on pay-per-view, but this digital platform is thinking about the fans. So this fight, Canelo vs. Rocky, you will be able to download DAZN for free for one month and watch this historical night where Canelo Álvarez will be able to showcase his talents and fight against a bigger guy, a heavier guy, a stronger guy, a champion, who fights at 168 pounds. So if you ask me, I think that’s a great deal.”

“Thank you HBO for all of the memories. Over the years, you have been a true pioneer…but there’s a new kid on the block and his name is DAZN.”

BERNARD HOPKINS, Future Hall of Famer and Golden Boy Promotions Business Partner:
“What I’ll say to everyone is take this opportunity, even Canelo and Rocky, to put your DNA in the history of the great legendary MSG. Enjoy the fight. DAZN is here. Enjoy the fight and get ready for 2019.”

JOE MARKOWSKI, Executive Vice President, DAZN North America:
“In parts of the twentieth century, the heavyweight champion was the most famous man in the world. But then something changed. Pay-per-view. Boxing became one of the only sports to take its biggest moments and deliver them to smallest audience possible. And that’s why Saturday night is such a milestone. The last king of pay-per-view Canelo Alvarez will become the first king of sports streaming. This fight is not 75 or 100 dollars. Canelo-Rocky is free on DAZN for all new subscribers.”

“This is just the beginning and we encourage everyone to join us for this ride. It’s simple. Just like you would with Netflix or Hulu, you download our app, sign up and watch amazing content on all devices – including the big screen on the wall of your living room.”

EDDIE HEARN, Managing Director of Matchroom Sports:
“I remember Eric Gomez calling me up and asking if Rocky Fielding would like to fight Canelo Álvarez. Not once did he ask about the money. It was a yes. This is everything to Rocky Fielding. This is the opportunity of a lifetime, to come to MSG and defend his world title against Canelo Álvarez. I believe he’s going to give Canelo Álvarez everything he has and everything he can handle.”

“DAZN is a game-changer for the world of boxing. Normally U.S. fight fans would have to put their hands in their pockets for $80, $100. Not only is this a great deal for fans in terms of price, but production is top shelf.”

The battle will take place Saturday, December 15 at Madison Square Garden in New York City and will be streamed live on DAZN – which, at just $9.99 per month after a one-month free trial, means new subscribers to DAZN will enjoy the entire Canelo vs.

Below is what the fighters had to say at today’s workout:

CANELO ALVAREZ, WBC, WBA, Lineal and Ring Magazine Middleweight World Champion:

“I’m very happy to be able to make history here at Madison Square Garden. Hopefully, it will be the first event of many here. It’s a challenge for me because I’ll be entering the comfort zone of the champion, but I’m happy because I like to be able make challenges in boxing. I’m ready. I’m ready to make history, and I hope people enjoy a good fight. Athletes on the level that I’m on can’t get comfortable. Everyone is coming to win and to rip your head off, so that makes the opponent more dangerous. I don’t underestimate anybody. I prepare 100 percent for everything and I’m ready for Saturday without a doubt.”

ROCKY FIELDING, WBA Super Middleweight World Champion:

“I feel great, excited and soaking it all up. This is my first time doing such a big fight week and I’m really enjoying it. People are talking a lot about the size difference, and I have to make that a factor on Saturday night because I need to use every advantage that I’ve got. It’s my weight division. I’ve been at Super Middleweight for a long time. I make the weight well and he’s stepping up. The bookmakers are going to lose money – I was the underdog in Germany against a young and unbeaten fighter in his 4th defense and blasted him away in five rounds to take home the title. I perform better when I the underdog and everyone is against me. I thrive on that.

I have prepared myself to be at my best on the night and if I need to bite down on the gumshield and fight it out. I know I can do that. When people come to KO me, that’s when I catch them off-guard and get the KO myself. But Canelo is an experienced and clever fight that doesn’t make many mistakes, so the things that we’re working on in camp will pay off on Saturday night.”

DAVID LEMIEUX, Former IBF Middleweight World Champion:

“You know what? I’m here to do business. It’s going to be the same scenario in the ring, I have to look spectacular this weekend no matter who’s in front of me, and Johnson is front of me. I’m going to take good care of him. We still train twice a day. We’re cutting weight. We’re keeping the reflexes sharp. I got to do touch ups and not fall asleep before the fight. We are going to be explosive. Everything but sparring. Sparring is finished a week before. You don’t want any injuries before the fight.”

TUREANO JOHNSON, Middleweight Contender:

“Boxing is a strategic sport. In fact, boxing isn’t really a sport-it’s a lifestyle. You have to live this and that’s what I do. I live boxing. I study my opponents. David Lemieux is a great puncher, but he does have some flaws, and that’s what I’m going to expose Saturday night. Many have beaten Lemieux, but this is going to be a new one. Trust me: this is a treat. We all know that he’s a great finisher. Once he sees a wounded animal he goes for the kill, but indeed Tureano doesn’t know how to get wounded. I don’t even know how to get hurt. I’m expecting him to bring the best David Lemieux he can possibly be, but David Lemieux it’s going to be a hell of a fight for you if you think you’re going to knock Tureano out.”

SADAM ALI, Former WBO Junior Middleweight World Champion:

“I feel like every fight moving forward is going to be a must-win. If you want to be great in your career, you’re supposed to think like that. In life you know there’s ups and downs, you just have to keep fighting.”

MAURICIO HERRERA, Former Interim WBA Super Lightweight World Champion:

“Fighters in their careers have their ups and downs. My career has had ups and downs. I just got off two wins, My last fight was with Jesus Soto Karrass. I went the distance. With him, I felt pretty good. Then I took some time off, I had to recover a little bit. I needed to feel the hunger with boxing, and I got it back. I got a chance with Sadam, so I’m here to prove something. I know I’m not old. I still feel good I feel young. We’ll see Saturday night how I look. Sadam Ali is a good fighter. He’s slick. He’s a boxer. He has all the basic skills. I’m going in there with a tough guy.”

VERGIL ORTIZ, Super Lightweight Prospect:

“First of all, I’m very excited. This is my first time in New York and everyone wants to go to New York. It’s on everyone’s bucket list, so I’m happy to be here. Second, fighting at Madison Square Garden, I’m very grateful for this because there’s been so many historic fights. The last fight I was saw was Lomachenko vs. Linares, that was great. My opponent [Omar Tienda] has a pretty good record. He’s 19-5 with 12 knockouts. He has more knockouts than I have fights. He’s only been stopped in one of the five losses. So, there’s a pretty good chance he can go the distance, but I’m going to do what I do best. Towards the end of 2019, I for sure want to get a world title shot. I want to be world champion by the end of 2019.”

TEVIN FARMER, IBF Super Featherweight Champion:

“It’s a good feeling being world champion, but I worked hard for it, so it’s not a surprise to me, I knew it was coming and there’s a lot more to accomplish. I always train hard, but I think you improve mentally from winning the title. You just feel the difference, and you see it in the spars and the fights. People have seen that. It’s a confidence thing. You know you are the champ and you have to perform and live up to that title. It forces you to. My goal is to stop him inside four rounds – it has nothing to do with Gervonta Davis (who beat him in eight rounds). This is about me. James Tennyson said he could KO me and I knocked him out in five, so now I want to do it in four. I am only competing against myself. The goal is to win the fight, but if I stop him in four rounds, then I’ve improved on the last fight. If I stop him quicker than Davis, oh well, I’ve knocked him out before him, it doesn’t matter.”

KATIE TAYLOR, WBA and IBF Lightweight World Champion:

“I’m so excited about this fight. I love fighting in the U.S., and this is a really big fight with a big name on a huge platform in New York and on DAZN. These are the kinds of fights that I am in the sport for. I know Eva from the amateurs. She’s an excellent fighter, and I believe that this is my toughest fight to date. It’s been incredible. I am probably the highest paid female fighter in the world, thanks to Eddie and Matchroom. I spoke to a lot of promoters before I spoke to Eddie and he really did have the same vision that I had. He was as excited as me about the future and now I have the chance to be a part of the new venture with DAZN too which is great for me. I am developing a fan base in the US as well as back home in Ireland and the UK. It’s such an exciting time for me and I am loving the pro game.”

RYAN GARCIA, Lightweight Prospect:

“It happened when I was around eighteen years old. I posted some videos of me hitting the cobra bag. I guess everyone loved it and then from there I had fights on ESPN, knockouts from my tenth and sixteenth fight and that’s I started blowing up. It’s meant a lot because I went from fighting guys on a certain level you have to fight, where I was knocking everybody out. Then when you make another step in your career you need experience, you need somebody that’s been there before and will teach you the ropes on how to handle things and what better trainer then Eddy Reynoso. He (Canelo) taught me a lot stuff about the business of the game and also stuff in the ring during sparring. I’m a very visual learner so it’s what I see when he was sparring and training hard. That’s my thing, that’s my world. It’s perfect all my fans get to watch me fight and they get to see what I do. This is iconic, this is crazy. It’s a dream come true anybody to fight or play ball or do anything at Madison Square Garden. I’m just honored to fight here.”

LAMONT ROACH JR., WBO International Super Featherweight World Champion:

“This is my second time fighting at Madison Square Garden on a big card. I fought on the undercard of GGG vs. Lemieux. I’m very grateful to be in this position and this opportunity and I’m ready to put on a show. Of course Tevin Farmer is a great fighter. He has the championship. Obviously I’m eyeing any champion in my weight class, I’m not shying away from any champion so hopefully that is a fight down the road. I’m a pretty tough character outside the ring too but you know if you don’t start anything there won’t be anything. My motivation is the work I put in to get here. It has been a long journey, it’s been a long and I still got more to go. What’s next, a world title. I’m ranked number 5 in the WBO. Right now I have the WBO international championship, after I defend it hopefully they bump me up into one of those mandatory spots that put me in line for a title eliminator title or a title. My ideal fight, any champion.”

BILAL AKKWAY, Super Middleweight Prospect

“I’m actually very excited. It’s a great pleasure and privilege to be fighting in such an arena, and sharing the ring with such names as Canelo. I’m going to treat it like another fight just go out there and do my thing. I can say he’s (Canelo) in good condition even though he’s moved up to 168 for this fight. He’s still strong at that weight. He’s looking good.”

Farmer defends IBF World Super-Featherweight crown against Fonseca in New York

Tevin Farmer will defend his IBF World Super-Featherweight title against Francisco Fonseca at Madison Square Garden in New York on December 15, on the undercard of Canelo Alvarez challenging Rocky Fielding for the WBA World Super-Middleweight title, live on DAZN in the US and on Sky Sports in the UK.

Farmer (27 – 4 – 1 6KOs) makes the second defense of his crown under two months in his third fight in just over four months after he first put the belt on the line in Boston, where he blasted hard-hitting Northern Irishman James Tennyson away inside five rounds in a fantastic performance on DAZN.

The Philadelphia ace looks to crown a great year in his career in style at the Manhattan boxing mecca with a third huge win, having landed the vacant title in Australia in August with a landslide points win over local favorite Billy Dib in Sydney – erasing the disappointment of his controversial loss to Kenichi Ogawa in Las Vegas in December, with the hotly-contested split decision reversal changed to a no contest following the Japanese failing a drug test.

Farmer has set his sights on a unification clash with WBA champion Gervonta Davis in 2019 as he aims to stamp his name as the premier fighter at 130lbs, but Fonseca (22 – 1 – 1 16KOs), whose sole blemish on his career was in a clash for the IBF crown with Davis in August 2017, is confident of ruining those plans and enters the bout on the back of three stoppage wins inside five rounds.

“Another day, another big night,” said Farmer. “I’m looking to do the same thing that I did to Tennyson – but much faster.

“I’m on another level and people are starting to realize. Right now, I’m just trying to make history with every fight. December 15 I will show everyone once again that I am one of the best in the world.”

“I’d like to thanks Tevin Farmer for the opportunity,” said Fonseca. “I see his focus is on Gervonta Davis, not on me – but you have no idea the opponent that you will clash with on December 15.

“I hope you’re prepared so we can give the public a great fight. In the name of God, I’ll be the new IBF World Champion. I’ll guarantee my name will never be forgotten by the people that watch us fight and I’m ready to make history.”

“Tevin Farmer is one of the most inspirational stories in boxing,” said Lou DiBella, President of DiBella Entertainment. “He’s won 20 fights in a row and is one of the fastest improving young stars in boxing. I’m pleased that, with Eddie Hearn and DAZN, he is now the most active champion in the ring. It’s a tremendous opportunity to be on the Canelo-Fielding bill.”

“It’s brilliant to Tevin straight back out after his big win in Boston,” said Eddie Hearn. “We are keeping our guys nice and active and Tevin gets his chance to go again on the biggest stage at Madison Square Garden against Fonseca.

“2019 is going to be a monster for Tevin but he must get the job done next Saturday – I can’t wait to see him light up the Garden live on DAZN.”

ROCKY FIELDING INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE CALL TRANSCRIPT

LOS ANGELES (Dec. 3, 2018): ERIC GOMEZ: I want to say hello to everyone and thank you for dialing in. This is the official international conference call for the Super Middleweight World Champion Rocky Fielding, who will be taking on the Middleweight World Champion Canelo Alvarez on Dec. 15 from New York City at Madison Square Garden, and to be streamed on DAZN.

We’re less than 15 days away for this major event with our new partners DAZN. Fielding, obviously, world champion in his own right, has the opportunity of a lifetime, and to be able to take his career to the next level. This fight’s very, very dangerous for Canelo. The stakes are high, but the fight fans are going to get the fight they want in a great, great action-packed fight.

Again, this is going to be free. I want to repeat that. We talked about it a little bit last week. You can watch it free on DAZN. The first month is free for anybody that’s going to be a member or join DAZN. For those of you that want to see it live, you can go to the Madison Square Garden box office, or you can call Ticketmaster at 866-858-0008, and obviously online at ticketmaster.com, Golden Boytickets.com, and MSG.com.

Now, before I introduce Rocky and let him speak, I want to introduce a very important person on his team. This man was a fighter in his own right, but now he is recognized as one of the best trainers in the world. Please welcome trainer for Rocky Fielding, Jamie Moore. Jamie, can you say a few comments, please?

JAMIE MOORE: Obviously, we’ve only got a couple of weeks before the fight, so Rocky’s training has been ideal, been perfect, couldn’t have gone any smoother. I know I’ve said that many, many times before, but I truly believe he’s put the work in in the camp that can get him the victory.

ERIC GOMEZ: Great. Thank you, Jamie. Thank you very much. And now I’d like to introduce a fighter who has, like I said a little earlier, the opportunity of a lifetime on December 15th. Besides making his first defense of his title, he’ll be making his United States debut, and he’ll be fighting at the famed Madison Square Garden of New York City. Please welcome to the call WBA Super Middleweight World Champion Rocky Fielding. Rocky?

ROCKY FIELDING: Thanks for having me on. Thank you. Yes, as you said, it’s a massive fight for me at Madison Square Garden and a big challenge in Canelo Alvarez. Camp has gone great, it’s gone well. Put everything I can into it. I sacrificed everything. So it’s gone well. Everything’s gone well. It’s going to pay off, hopefully, on December 15th.

ERIC GOMEZ: Great. Thank you very much, Rocky. Thank you to Team Rocky. Now, operator, we can open it up to questions.

Q. Hi, Eric and Jamie and Rocky. Thanks for taking the time. My question is for Rocky and then Jamie. In the United States, we have a saying where we say that someone might have a, quote, unquote, puncher’s chance to get the win. When someone is an underdog but has power, we say they have a puncher’s chance to win. Rocky, do you have a similar saying in the United Kingdom, and would you agree that you have what would be called a puncher’s chance against Canelo, or would you call it something else?
ROCKY FIELDING: Yeah, that’s what it is, I think, in the boxing world. That’s what they all say. We say it here in the UK. Yeah, it’s a puncher’s chance, but I mean, it’s the talent of the shots and the punches and stuff like that. I’m a good fighter, a good boxer. So it’s a good one.

If they say I have a puncher’s chance, then I’ll let them, but then December 15th I’ll show them what chance I do have, and if it’s a puncher’s chance, it may be, but if it’s not, then it’s not. It’s just whatever happens on December 15th. I’m prepared well, so we’ll have to see what happens.

Q. Jamie, what do you say? Do you think Rocky has a puncher’s chance or more than that?
JAMIE MOORE: He absolutely has more than a puncher’s chance. I think the term a puncher’s chance means someone who can hit but he’s relying on a bit of luck to land that shot whereas Rocky is much more of a rounded fighter than to just go in there and rely on hope to land a lucky shot. He’s a very intelligent fighter, and he’s underappreciated, I feel. I think that a lot of fighters, especially the ones who he spars, say you don’t realize how good he is or how unorthodox he is. We’ll certainly find that out on the night of the fight.

So as much as Alvarez, he’s going to find out about that. We’re going to ask him questions. There’s a lot of unanswered questions regarding him moving up to super middleweight. Height and reach advantage what Rocky’s got is huge. How is he going to cope with those problems, plus the fact that the size difference on the night? I know there’s a ten-pound weight limit for the next morning, but the actual difference from that point in time until they actually get in the ring on the night is going to be massive. You’ll see, when they come face to face in the middle of the ring, Rocky’s going to be huge, an absolutely huge specimen compared to Canelo.

So we know how good a fighter he is, but there’s a lot of questions what he needs to answer, and we’re going to make him answer.

Q. Thanks, everybody, for taking time to talk to us. The first question is for Jamie, and if Rocky wants to give his thoughts as well. Obviously, Canelo Alvarez is a top pound-for-pound superstar. He’s coming off the win against Golovkin. The question is how do you get sparring partners for Rocky to prepare him for the type of skill set that Canelo Alvarez has?
JAMIE MOORE: It’s obviously a very difficult task. You know, when you’re talking about the elite level fighters at the top of the pound for pound list, how do you sort of get sparring to match that? You really can’t. You have to — in my opinion, you have to take out the best attributes that that fighter has, someone with a real sharp jab like Canelo. You’d want to get a sparring partner who has a real good jab. Then you’ve got to try to get all the different best parts of the attributes as well and cover those with different sparring partners, but you’re never necessarily going to get all those covered with one sparring partner. You actually have a different range of it.

Me personally, I like to do a lot of tactical work and drills and different sort of the combinations are the punch selection, which I feel work in different fights. I’ll pick that up early on in camp, and we’ll drill it and drill it and drill it because I like the fighter to understand what I want him to do on the night well in advance, and by the time the fight comes around, we’ve drilled it that much that it becomes second nature. So as soon as he’s in a situation, he responds to it without even thinking about it.

And we nailed that down early on. I’ve been a big fan of Canelo for many years, so it didn’t take me that long to sort of pick up on his rhythm and his timing, his shot selection, the stuff he does well. The opportunities where I feel Rocky will get to him, we’ve picked out quite quick, and we’ve drilled it and drilled it, and Rocky is just pulling it off exactly how I would want him to do it at that point in camp.

Q. Rocky, obviously, you’ve been fighting in super middleweight for far longer than Canelo Alvarez. Canelo has never really had like a proper fight at 168 pounds. How much do you think it’s going to be an advantage for you already being accustomed to fighting bigger guys than what Canelo Alvarez has been used to throughout his career?
ROCKY FIELDING: Yeah, that’s the ingredient to the fight. I’m a big super middleweight, and he’s stepping up. That’s what makes it interesting to see how he is going to adapt to it and how he’s going to be. I’m at a weight to make the weight comfortable, and I’m okay at it. I don’t know how it’s going to be for him, but I’m at the best weight for myself.

It adds up. He’s a top fighter all around, and he brings that with him as well as moving up in the weight. He carries all that around. So it’s going to be interesting to see him from his last fight, to see how does in the pound step up (inaudible) and see if he accumulated muscle mass in this short of time. It will be interesting to see in the next week or so. It will be interesting compared to myself and how I make the weight and how I prepare. I make the weight, and then I fight. That’s how I’m prepared.

Q. Eric, obviously, The Zone went with Golden Boy soon after it unveiled in the U.S. To some, it may come with some risk and uncertainty. So when the opportunity to go on The Zone and go full in on this project, what about that potential partnership made you and Golden Boy confident that this could work? Was it The Zone’s long tradition? Was it getting ahead on the streaming service, the existing relationship they had with Matchroom Boxing, or was it any other factors?
ERIC GOMEZ: No, obviously, we believe in the product. We have tons and tons of data that we’ve compiled the last three years or so, and the landscape for television, especially for sports in television, is changing. It really is changing. The viewership on pay-per-views have been going down and down and down. When you have two massive fights back to back, Canelo versus Golovkin 1 and 2, and the online streaming services are outdoing the linear pay-per-view, it’s very compelling, it’s eye opening.

So I feel that the vision that Skipper has, John Skipper has for The Zone and some of the plans they have that I can’t really discuss at this time, we believe in them, and it’s going to be the future.

Q. Rocky, good afternoon. Less than two weeks away from the fight. How much pressure or how big does this feel to you, your first fight in the United States, against Canelo Alvarez in Madison Square Garden? How much of that enters your mind, and have you taken stock yet that this is the biggest moment of your career?
ROCKY FIELDING: Yeah, well, I’m enjoying it. This is what I’m in boxing for. This is what I’ve been doing in boxing since I was 9, for these nights. Where I’ve come from and my background and where I started professional in the sport, to fight at Madison Square Garden against the biggest name in boxing is unbelievable.

I’m not letting it get to me. I’m enjoying this, but I’m fully focused on it these past ten weeks, and I see it’s getting closer now. You know, I’m enjoying it. I’m going to go play soon. This is what we’re in boxing for, for these nights. So, yeah, it’s a great thing.

Q. A lot of people are looking at this fight for Canelo as a stepping stone fight for possibly a trilogy fight with Golovkin or a rematch with Mayweather. How does that make you feel? Does that add any more fuel to your fire heading into December 15th?
ROCKY FIELDING: That’s on them, and where I’m at, you can’t look past your next opponent. It’s up to them, and I’m fully focused on Canelo. That’s all that matters to me. It hasn’t bothered me whether he just signed a big deal or anything. I’m just fully focused on Canelo, and whatever else goes on with him or the rest of the fighters or fights, it doesn’t bother me. I’ve just got to be prepared and get ready for the 15th. That’s what I’m doing.

Q. Hi, I’ve got a question for Rocky. Everyone in the UK certainly is probably focused on what Tyson Fury did in America last weekend.
ROCKY FIELDING: Yeah.

Q. Do you feel like a little bit, in the public’s perception, you’re following that lead and you’re going to put up a really good show so the British can be proud of what we can do over in America?
ROCKY FIELDING: Yeah, definitely. That was a big, big fight for Tyson Fury. I was over the moon. We have like a bit of a crazy friendship. We both was in the ABA Finals together. We both (inaudible). We’ve both had the benefit of fighting for a world title. So it’s a great story. But Fury has been massive, massive the past couple days in the UK, and everyone is behind him, even the world for inspiration.

I’ve got good support coming over, and hopefully I’ll give it everything on the night, and everyone around the world supports me on it. I’m appreciative of it all.

Q. One follow-up on that, Rocky. Would this be like the biggest thing for you so far in your career? How do you think you would you feel if you actually beat Canelo?
ROCKY FIELDING: Well, I’m the superstar, aren’t I? And as I said to be honest, every fighter you meet — I started my pro debut in Lancashire with a couple hundred people. And that’s where I started for the last eight to nine years of my professional career. And I’ve had a lot of setbacks outside the ring and stuff like that. So to be coming to Madison Square Garden to fight the biggest name in boxing, I’m going prepared and going to win and that’s all I can do. As I said, I wake up the next day and I’m the face of boxing, and it’s a great feeling.

Q. Rocky, what was your thoughts when the Canelo fight first came across your desk?
ROCKY FIELDING: Yeah, it was a big surprise. And I don’t think anyone expected in terms (indiscernible). I just accepted this. When Jamie called me up to say Canelo wants to fight you, and do you want this tab open? I said, yeah, let’s do it. And it’s a massive challenge and let’s do it and that was it. So the answer was yeah. And that’s it really, yeah. Offered the challenge, and it is.

Q. You went over to Germany to defeat Tyron Zeuge of the WBA. Is there anything you can draw from that fight to kind of prepare you for coming over to America to fight Canelo?
ROCKY FIELDING: Obviously traveling away from home and getting the win like I did is a big achievement, especially in January. No one gave me a chance and not many fighters get chances and scorecards are always dodgey. But I just feel like the whole thing, obviously it’s a lot, lot bigger. Everyone knows the arena, the media, everything’s a lot bigger. So apart from that, it’s a ring and that’s it; wherever the ring is, you fight. Fighters fight. And that’s it.

But, yeah, I take things from it as far as being far away from home and getting the win, like I said, it’s a lot bigger as a whole — media and obviously the (indiscernible)– I’ll be there in the (indiscernible). But I’m going to enjoy them. This is a night, that’s what boxing’s for. I’m going to enjoy it, though.

Q. Earlier this year, Canelo had a heat cup [phonetic], a VADA testing. He popped clean for Clenbuterol. Now is VADA testing a part of this fight? And if it’s not, do you guys have any concern about a re– not a reoccurrence, but just is there any concern about the previous test?
ROCKY FIELDING: No. I mean I haven’t locked into it. I’m getting tested and stuff. I’m standing up with VADA. But that’s it; I’m just concerned about myself and I’m not really locking into (indiscernible) whatever the past has happened. Just focused on myself and that’s it whatever has happened in the past has happened and that’s it really.

Q. In order for Rocky Fielding to beat Canelo, he must do what?
ROCKY FIELDING: What Tyson said, just punch him in the face hard until he goes down. I mean, I’ve worked on techniques with Jamie for the past 11 weeks. As I say, I’ve just gotta do what I’ve gotta do. I believe what we worked on and what I can do can cause a lot of damage and a lot of — a lot more than what people are thinking. People are thinking I’m going there and actually (indiscernible). I’ve prepared well and I’m prepared to give it everything I’ve got. I believe boxing, fight — the best fight the best, and the best comes out of me. And I have enough fear factor and everything about it, and (indiscernible). I’ll perform well and I’ll give it everything I’ve got. And if I have to (indiscernible) boxing, I boxing, and everything that we worked on with Jamie, it will come off on the December 15th and that’s all I can do.

Q. Rocky, when the fight was originally presented to you, was there a moment where you said to yourself this is something I need to think about, take my time to make a decision, or did you know right away that you were going to accept the fight, and this is exactly what you were looking for?
ROCKY FIELDING: Yeah, Jamie is there on the phone. He can tell you. Jaime called me up and told me about the fight and said it was done and the first answer was yes. Why wait? So answer was yes straightaway. And that was it.

JAMIE MOORE: The exact conversation went: Canelo Álvarez wants to fight you. He went: Serious? And I went: Yeah. And he went: Let’s do it. He literally took it straightaway.

ROCKY FIELDING: There was no thinking, like, I know who he is and all and everything. I think as a fighter — and to be honest, you can ask at the end that every fight that he has ever presented to me I’ve said yes to straightaway. A fight whether it’s a fight I didn’t needed to fight (indiscernible). I just said, yeah, because that’s the fighter in me. That’s why I don’t like to say no to fights. But this is obviously a guy who is the face of boxing, pound for pound, and everything. So why not — yeah, straightaway. Massive challenge. I’ll go in there and I’ll fight the best pound for pound and go in there and do what I’ve got to do to and get the win. And I’m the next superstar.

Where I’m at in my career now, it was yes (indiscernible), go and win a title. And you want to be the best, you have to fight the best. And this is where I’m at.

Q. How have things changed, whether the fans or the media attention, or just the attention that you’re getting from the fans and the media before fighting the fight and after, do you feel like you’re going to have a big support in MSG on fight night?
ROCKY FIELDING: Yeah. Obviously the media stuff is obviously stepped up a lot bigger and it’s been nonstop. But we have had fans, where we’ve cut it off with the camp, to get the training done and stuff. So we’ve got to do that well.

And, yeah, getting stopped in the streets where I’m from, people — a lot more than what I usually would about the fights. I’m getting great support. Everyone’s supporting me.

And I’ve got a couple of ones coming over there, I’d say 800 to a thousand coming over, and there will be more than 15 or 20,000 that we get.

So everything’s been, in that sense, has been big. But I’m being me, been going to the gym, doing my way and I’ve been coming home and getting my rest and doing that and looking after the kids.

And the rest will come the way it always has. And apart from what you’ve seen in the media, it’s got a bit bigger and it’s boxing. Obviously it comes with who I’m fighting.

So once I put the phone down from Jamie, when I accepted, I knew — I prepared myself for what was coming, the storm that I knew was going to come, I knew all the media was going to come. I had it in my mind and everything that in my mind is how it’s going now. So I’ve took it all well. And I’ve been doing it. And this is why boxing being the elite on top is about. And so here I am.

Q. Eric, can you talk a little bit about the planning and the thinking of bringing Canelo to Madison Square Garden and kind of what was the driving force to that? A lot of his big fights were in Las Vegas. And depending on the success and magnitude of the event in two weeks, do you think we’ll be seeing Canelo more often on the East Coast?
ERIC GOMEZ: First of all, thank you for being on the call. You know, he’s always wanted to fight in New York. He’s always wanted to fight in New York. It seems like the last three years he’s been — he’s been talking to Oscar and myself about fighting in New York and obviously at the Garden. He’s a big fan of Muhammad Ali and idolizes Muhammad Ali.

And to fight at the mecca of boxing where all the greats have fought — Oscar fought there as well. It’s something that he always wanted to do. So we’re very excited, extremely excited that we were able to squeeze in one more fight in December after having such a tough fight in September with Golovkin, the rematch.

So for him, it’s going to be a great experience; and, yes, of course, we’re open coming to do more fights in New York. No problem. Everything seems to be going well, smooth. Ticket sales are great. We’re expecting a sell-out. And if everything goes as planned, why not?

Q. Jamie, is there any strategy on your part to perhaps take the fight into deep waters; do you feel that you have a better shot the longer the fight goes?
JAMIE MOORE: I don’t necessarily think we have to do that, no. I think — will it go in our favor? I think maybe. I think the size advantage and the longer the fight goes, especially if it’s a physical fight, that definitely could play in our hands.

What Rocky — I don’t think Rocky’s record really tells the tale of how hard he punches. And although Canelo has shown that he’s got a great chin against Golovkin, Golovkin’s power is very much sort of a raw power; whereas, Rocky, a lot of his is based off timing, timing of his shots. And the reason his record doesn’t really suggest how hard he hits, a lot of the guys he boxed early on, you saw go in there to survive; you can’t get the shots off in time. So they’re probably able to fiddle their way through against somebody with the shot power that Rocky has.

So to answer your question, I think Rocky is capable of finishing the fight at any time. He really just kind of has that power. But the longer the fight goes, you know, tactically we’ve set a game plan out there that, by sort of the middle rounds, Rocky should have a real fold in the fight and then if it plays out the way I think it’s going to play, it will be our fight to lose.

Q. Rocky, we’ve seen Golovkin hit Canelo pretty clean with some big shots that probably would have dropped other fighters. And Canelo was able to withstand it and come back and throw his own shots. Does that change anything for you in terms of the preparation for the fight; whereas, maybe you’re looking at different techniques and strategies to not be able to necessarily have to stop Canelo, but be able to outbox him or do something with timing?
ROCKY FIELDING: Yes, definitely. As you’re saying, Golovkin took a wailing. And I think it’s all about the timing and how you get the shots is — it’s almost the shots that you don’t see with the (indiscernible). I’ve just been working on what I’m preparing and what we feel will do the job. And as I say we say, my record (indiscernible) and stoppages in there. So that was some of that. We’ll see. [Audio cutting out] (indiscernible) what you get off from the meeting and the timing and everything and I believe [Audio cutting out] (indiscernible).

JAMIE MOORE: You can definitely take a shot better when you see it coming (indiscernible) or ride it. I think the big right hands that he took by Golovkin, obviously powerful shots. He did see him coming and he sort of rolled it and took the thing out of the shot. So which is obviously a great attribute (indiscernible) [Audio cutting out] the style. The shots you don’t see come in. And they’re the ones that do the real damage. So it is a difference between the shots Golovkin was hitting him with and the shots I anticipate Rocky will hit him with.

ROCKY FIELDING SHARES INSIGHT ON A TRAINING CAMP TAILOR-MADE TO PULL CAREER UPSET AGAINST CANELO ALVAREZ

MANCHESTER, U.K. (Nov. 28, 2018): Rocky Fielding (27-1, 15 KOs) has ramped up his training efforts on home turf as he prepares for the opportunity of a lifetime against WBC, WBA, Lineal and Ring Magazine World Champion Canelo Alvarez (50-1-2, 34 KOs) for the WBA Super Middleweight Championship. Fielding has assembled the best team to pull off the upset of a career which could take him to the next level in boxing. The 12-round championship fight will take place Saturday, Dec. 15 at Madison Square Garden and will be streamed live on DAZN – which, at just $9.99 per month after a one-month free trial, means new subscribers to DAZN will enjoy the entire Canelo vs. Rocky fight night for free.

“If I win, I’ll be the king of New York and one of the biggest names in the sport overnight. I came from nothing and now I’m headlining at MSG. It’s a dream come true, but it’s a job, and the work will be done in the gym in Manchester. There’s a lot of talk about Canelo’s next fight after Dec. 15-that it could be with Danny Jacobs, Demetrius Andrade, the Charlos, or even Callum Smith at Anfield – let them talk. If I take Canelo out, I’ll have a massive fight at Anfield instead.

“When we had the face off, the first thing I saw were cuts from the GGG fight which were still fresh. Also, there’s no way he’s going to be able to put eight pounds of muscle on since his last fight, but he’s elite and I know that it’s my biggest test. I’m confident, though. I wouldn’t have taken it otherwise. It’s at my weight, and I am big for the weight. I can punch, I’m heavy-handed and I can box.

“The height and the weight are significant. I am comfortable at the weight and he’ll be the one stepping up. He was a beast at light middleweight, but he’s not the biggest middleweight out there, so he won’t be at 168lbs. That difference is going to make for a great fight. If I have to dig deep at times, as I expect to have to do, I know I can. My weight and height can definitely play a massive part. I’ve had six good wins since the Smith fight. I’ve won titles and then gone to Germany where nobody gave me a chance and knocked the hometown guy out to become world champion. He [Canelo] may be looking past me, but I am definitely not looking past him.

“We’re covering all bases in sparring. You aren’t going to get sparring partners that are exactly like Canelo, but we’re replicating the build, the height, slick boxing skills and fast hands. But it’s as much about what I can do on the night. We know that he [Canelo] is an elite fighter and an all-round class act, but there are little bits there that Jamie Moore and I are watching on tape and working on in the gym.

“This is my first camp training as a world champion, and I know that it’s harder to stay as a world champion than become one because it’s like there’s a target on your back. Everything about the fight is big, but we’re away from it all in Manchester. There’s no Madison Square Garden bright lights there, so we’re focused on the plan with Jamie.

“Canelo doesn’t make many mistakes, so we’re going to have to draw those mistakes out of him. He boxed in a 12-round war in September and now he’s gone into another camp to box me in December. Will his body hold up through another camp after that war?”

CANELO ALVAREZ CONFERENCE CALL TRANSCRIPT

LOS ANGELES (Nov. 27, 2018): ERIC GOMEZ: I want to thank everyone for participating in the official Canelo International conference call ahead of the big fight December 15 between Canelo Álvarez, WBC, WBA, Linear and Ring Magazine Middleweight World Champion, moving up in weight, to challenge Rocky Fielding, who is the WBA Super Middleweight Champion.

This event will take place at Madison Square Garden and will be streamed live on DAZN. We’re less than 20 days away from witnessing Canelo trying to make history and become a three-division world champion. He wants to join the legendary fighters out of México: Julio Cesar Chávez, Erik Morales, Mark Antonio Barrera, and Jorge Arce in becoming a three-time world champion, if Canelo beats Rocky Fielding.

This will also be Canelo’s first fight at Madison Square Garden, which he is very, very excited about. He’s going to be walking in the footsteps of many great fighters including Muhammed Ali, Mike Tyson, Sugar Ray Leonard, many others, Oscar De La Hoya obviously.

Golden Boy prides itself as the leader in boxing, and we’re very pleased to be streaming this fight on DAZN, and for the fans that don’t know, you can subscribe and get the fight for free. Yes, that’s correct, you can get it for free. You’ll be able to see Canelo not only on DAZN, but at close-circuit theatres everywhere throughout the country.

And if you can’t see it on TV and if you want to be there in person at the Garden, there are still some tickets available. You can go to the Madison Square Garden box office or Ticketmaster. The phone number for Ticketmaster is 866-858-0008, or you can go online, tickestmaster.com, GoldenBoytickets.com or www.msg.com.

Just a quick note to all of you. We’re also going to be doing international call with Rocky Fielding next Monday, December 3 at the same time, 11:00 A.M. Pacific, 2:00 Eastern, so make sure you guys get on the call for that.

The first person I want to introduce to you, to say a few words, is the person that has been with Canelo since the beginning, the first one that saw the talent, the promising talent in Canelo when he was a teenager first walking into the gym, and that was Chepo Reynoso.

CHEPO REYNOSO: We’ve been having great preparation, all is going as planned for this great fight. Canelo is going to make history that night and be one on the shortlist of Mexicans to be a three-division world champion. That’s why the work has been intense. It’s been serious and done with a lot of responsibility and confidence, and salutations to all: On the 15th of December, we will crown Canelo Álvarez as a three-division champion.

ERIC GOMEZ: Thank you. Gracias, Chepo, gracias.

Now, the next person I would like to introduce is by far the leading contender for trainer of the year — he’s got my vote — he’s guided Canelo to all his recent victories. This man has also just started training our prospect of the year, Ryan Garcia, and is doing a great job with him. I want him to say a few words, Mr. Eddy Reynoso.

EDDY REYNOSO: Good afternoon and salutations to you all.

ERIC GOMEZ: Finally, the man of the hour, he’s the middleweight world champion, WBC, WBA, Ring Magazine, and Linear champion, coming up, probably the most important victory of his career back in September, fighting again here for the first time at the garden in New York, I want to introduce you to Canelo Álvarez.

CANELO ÁLVAREZ: I’m happy it’s a short time until fight night when I make history, and I’m really motivated for this fight.

Q. How important is it for you to be making history to become a three-division world champion?
CANELO ÁLVAREZ: It’s very important to be in that list of about ten Mexicans to become three-division world champions, so very important to enter history. That’s why I’m here taking on this important fight, and it’s important that we win this title.

Q. Rocky has never fought you before. And in this sense, how do you see this fight?
CANELO ÁLVAREZ: No fight is easy. It’s not a secret that I’m a better fighter and that I’m more experienced, but I’m taking a risk by entering into a comfort zone of a champion and his weight, that’s a risk, and that risk makes it even.

It makes it interesting. No fight is easy, so I’m preparing for a hard fight. I know that rocky is used to receiving punches from another weight class and I know that he’s taller. It’s not an easy fight, and I’m preparing for the best Rocky Fielding and to make sure that there are no surprises.

Q. Last month you said that you would be willing to fight Floyd Mayweather again if he was interested in the fight. I’m curious what is the lowest weight that you could get down to a fight with Mayweather would be that you would still have the ability to turn in a decent performance, and how that flight would play out differently this time?
CANELO ÁLVAREZ: I can’t go down further than 160 pounds. If that fight were to take place, it would have to be at 160 pounds.

Q. What do you feel you’ve learned in the time you fought Floyd the first time to make it more competitive and a fight that you can win? And this goes for Eddy, as well.
CANELO ÁLVAREZ: I’m a more complete fighter now. I would be much more competitive. I have a lot more experience. I have improved a lot, so it would be different.

It was experience who defeated me that night and that’s why it was a boring fight, as well, because he didn’t do too much to me, either. It was experience and I’m a much more mature fighter. I’m a better fighter than the fighter that fought that night.

It would be very different. After Mayweather, we’ve faced very good fighters. We fought Miguel Cotto, GGG twice. It will be different, and he’s a more complete fighter now with more experience. If this fight were to happen again, we would defeat him, no problem.

Q. Ryan Garcia just recently joined your camp training with Eddy. What are your thoughts on Ryan as a fighter, and what has it been like having him in your camp training alongside you?
CANELO ÁLVAREZ: He’s a good kid. He likes to learn. He likes to train. He has discipline, and that is what we like, and he’s a talented fighter so it’s nice having him in the gym. I know that Eddy will do a great job with him and I believe that he will teach him a lot so that he can achieve all that he wants to achieve in his career.

Q. What was your process in electing to move up to 168 for this particular fight? Was it the allure of a belt? Was it not wanting to get down to 160 again? What was in your mind the reason for doing this particular fight?
CANELO ÁLVAREZ: Right now the goal, the objective, is to fight for this world title and win on December 15 and then go back to 160 points where I do best. If we’ll be moving up and down those divisions, we didn’t know, but right now our goal is to get the title to middleweight.

Q. Fielding is much, much taller than Canelo. Are you phased by the gigantic height difference between the two of you?
CANELO ÁLVAREZ: You know, it doesn’t worry me, the height difference. We are working toward that. We will be working to get into it to guard, so it doesn’t worry to me at all. I’m a fighter who can adapt, and that’s what I’ll be doing when I fight him.

Q. The fight with Golovkin was not that long ago. A lot of fighters, especially after the magnitude of that event, a lot of fighters would take a lot of time off. What was the reason to jump right back in the ring? Not that we’re upset to see you fighting so quickly, but did you think about taking more time out? It seemed a little more rushed than typical Canelo Álvarez.
CANELO ÁLVAREZ: It’s because I had rest for one year. I like to be fighting. I like to be active, at least having two fights a year, and that’s why we wanted to do this so fast.

I love boxing. If I could fight every month, I would love that. I love what I do and that’s what has maintained me where I am right now.

Q. As one of the only fighters from México to headline there, do you think that you will make Madison Square Garden your home, over T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas?
CANELO ÁLVAREZ: Yes, I would like it to be the first of many fights there. To fight in New York is another landmark in my career and is another important story in my career. I would like to fight there, and instead of being the first or the last, I want it to be the first of many more.

Q. How many people have subscribed to DAZN since the announcement with Canelo Álvarez?
CHEPO REYNOSO: They haven’t given us that information. We will have to visit that after the fight and they will give us more information. But the comments are good and they are very happy.

It’s important for them to join the market here in U.S., and who else better than Canelo, who is not only the biggest star in boxing, but one of the biggest stars in all of sport. So, they are very happy right now, and I will be happy to give you more details after this fight.

Q. Rocky Fielding says that when he saw the height of Canelo, it gave him a lot more confidence. So how do you see yourself going about this fight?
EDDY REYNOSO: We’ll be moving up in weight, and when a boxer does that, he’s basically experimenting. We know that we have a great fighter in front of us and that Canelo will be preparing well, so height won’t be a problem to us. He’ll adapt to those type of fighters and he has worked with those type of boxers throughout his career. I have no doubt that he’ll be successful in this fight.

Q. There’s a lot of talk about GGG going over to DAZN now. Are you hoping he does so you can fight him again?
CANELO ÁLVAREZ: He can do whatever he wants and he can do whatever is convenient for him. I did my thing, so to each his own.

And regarding the fights we’ll see in the future, like I said, I’m all willing to make a third fight, if we made two, I’ll make a third one.

Q. How important is it to you to knockout Fielding early and show your power at a new weight?
CANELO ALVAREZ: Winning by a KO is always impressive, and I am preparing to make the best of it in this fight by any way, by any means necessary. I’m going to give everything in the ring, and I’m always going to look for the KO as I do in my fights; and if I do, that’s good, and if not, I’ll just make sure I give a good fight to the fans at Madison Square Garden.

Q. Will you be fighting at 160 after this? This is just a one-off; right?
CANELO ÁLVAREZ: When it’s done, I’ll come back to 160 pounds.

Q. You’ve had some impressive victories in your career, where would this accomplishment with fielding fit in the top five?
CANELO ÁLVAREZ: I’ve had many fights, and I’ve fought many great fighters, Trout, Cotto, Mosley, GGG, Mayweather, many fights that I’ve had.

Each fight is important because it teaches you something, and I take this fight as important as the previous fights. So I’m doing the same thing in training, making it just as important and in each fight, there’s a risk. So I’m training hard to minimize that risk, but every fight is important, and I’m taking this fight as important as the others.

Q. You’ve twice mentioned going back to 160. How important is it, with all the talent that’s there, for you to go down and to clean out and unify against someone in that division?
CANELO ALVAREZ: It’s very important to have great fights at any weight. To return at 160 where I feel best, that’s what I have in mind, to go back to 160 and do what I always do, which is look for the best fights.

Q. Eric, so back when he was coming up, there were some statistics of how good he was, but then when he knocked out Baldomir, that sensational knockout, it woke up a lot of people. From that point on, how difficult was it for you to hold him back because I know he wanted the Trout fight earlier than maybe you guys wanted it, and I know he wanted a lot of fights. Can you talk about his desire and the goals and where he’s at now?
ERIC GOMEZ: You know, Canelo is a special fighter. He’s a special athlete. He was always very, very — even at 18 years old, I mean, he was always very mature for his age, and he’s tough, like any fighter. I mean, they want to fight the best, and we always had to hold him back.

When we did — and you remember this, because you were around — when we did the fight with Austin Trout, I was against it, but he was adamant that he wanted that fight. He was adamant that he wanted to fight and there was something that he knew, and he saw that we didn’t. Obviously, we went with the fight because he was adamant, and he really forced our hand. But he’s always had that confidence about him.

The same goes with the Golovkin fight. If it was up to us, we would have waited at least one more year, but he wanted it and he forced it. All the big fights, even the Mayweather fight, we didn’t think it was the right time to do the may weather fight; he wanted to, but he’s always been very confident in his ability, and he’s just always had that about him.

Q. Do you think he would be the first person to knock Floyd out?
ERIC GOMEZ: Oh, definitely. Floyd doesn’t want any of Canelo now. Floyd took the fight at the right time. He was fighting a fighter that, you know, was very young, 21 at the time. He didn’t have the experience. Floyd beat him with experience, that’s all he did, but now, it would be a different story. Floyd, he doesn’t want to face Canelo.

Q. Thank you for taking time out today. You talked at the beginning of the call about all the great Mexican worlds champions in the sport, with you included. At this point right now, where do you think you are among the all-time great Mexican fighters?
CANELO ÁLVAREZ: I’m the wrong person to answer that. I haven’t finished with my career yet, and I’m not sure where I’ll be positioned in that list, so I would not like to answer that question.

Q. How much does this mean to you to make history? Not many Mexican fighters have gone on to win three world titles in three different weight classes. What would this mean to you on a personal level?
CANELO ÁLVAREZ: It’s very important to win this title. It would put me in the top 10 List of Mexican world champions, so it’s very important to win this title.

Q. A couple questions for Chepo. You’ve been with Canelo from the beginning. Where do you view him right now along all the all-time great Mexicans?
CHEPO REYNOSO: I think it’s not the moment yet. He’s still making history. When he finishes, history will put him where he corresponds.

Right now, it’s premature because he’s too young and has too many years ahead of him. It would even be a lack of perspective to answer the question for the greatest fighters in history.

So right now he’s doing his job and when he’s done, the people making those lists can put him where he corresponds, so it’s important to keep winning. It’s too premature to make that call now, but in the future, people in charge of that will put him where he corresponds.

Q. Where do you think Canelo can be ranked when his career is all said and done?
CHEPO REYNOSO: Like I say, I can’t talk right now. I can’t answer that right now. But if we are talking about right now, he would obviously be one of the best fighters in history. He’s had great moments and great wins and until this moment he has won titles in two divisions, and he beat the previously seated best top fighter. So, if we are talking about now, he will be considered one of the best fighters in Mexican history.

Q. And one more for you, Chepo. You’ve experienced 154, 160 and 168. What have you done differently from 160 to 168 for Canelo?
CHEPO REYNOSO: It’s all different, 154 pounds, 160 pounds, 168 pounds, what he puts on his body is going to be different when it comes to what he’s eating, carbohydrates. Also, the strength training is different in each division, but thank God, things have been going well for us.

Q. Before you signed the contract with DAZN, had you ever heard of DAZN? Did you know they were streaming, as opposed to television? What was your knowledge of DAZN and their business?
CANELO ÁLVAREZ: You know, the DAZN logo I would see it, but to be sincere, I had no idea what it was, how it was managed until the offer came to me. But to be sincere, I didn’t know what it was before.

Q. So now that you’re obviously the face of DAZN, have you subscribed to it? Have you checked it out? Have you seen how the stream looks? Are you talking about it with your friends and your fans?
CANELO ÁLVAREZ: Yeah, I downloaded it. I have it on my phone. I’ve seen fights on it, I’ve connected it to my TV and I have it on my phone right now. It’s always updated with what is happening.

Q. Do you think it’s going to take a lot — I know it’s not expensive. I have it and it works extremely well. How much do you think it’s going to take to get your fans, boxing fans, to break what they are used to and to make the transition? Once you have it, it’s extremely easy to use, but you have to get them to take that first step. How much of a spokesperson will you be to try to convince your legions of fans that this is a way to watch my fights?
CANELO ÁLVAREZ: Not much, because my fans want to watch me.

Q. It’s one thing to win all the fights that you’ve won, to win your title, to become a top superstar champion in boxing and then you sign the record contract with DAZN. Did you take more satisfaction in being a champion or knowing that you signed the richest deal in the history of sports?
CANELO ÁLVAREZ: All together, obviously, being champion, being one of the best fighters, and then even this contract, it had to pass through all of that, you have to be the best, obviously. The most important thing for me is to make history. The rest will come together. To be one of the Mexicans being able to achieve this lucrative contract for me is an honor.

Q. You, Canelo, will be the eighth fighter in history to fight at Madison Square Garden and the first as the main event in about 35 years. How special is it for you to be doing this?
CANELO ÁLVAREZ: It fills me with a lot of pride because I know great fighters have fought there, like Muhammad Ali, and to mention more fighters would be unnecessary.

But to be the main event there at MSG, and if I’m not mistaken, first Mexican there in a long time, it fills me with pride.

Q. The question is for Canelo and Eric. Obviously the Mexican dates, some of the most important dates for Mexican fighters are in May and September. Can December be one of those important dates, as well, especially going into the holiday activities?
It all depends on Saul. He’s a young fighter and he’s very disciplined and as he said before, he likes to fight. He loves to fight. He always — he doesn’t move up too much in weight, but it depends on him. The dates in May and September are very important. They are very important, Chavez started it and it continued with Oscar De La Hoya and now it’s continuing with Saul, and it’s very important for Mexican and Mexican American people in the United States, but it depends on Saul. I know that he’s always wanted to fight in December, and if he can and he’s able to, no problem, we’ll do it.

CANELO ÁLVAREZ: As Eric said, my dates are May and September, and I have the option to fight in December.

For me it’s always important to fight often. Like the routine and I like discipline that’s in boxing, and I like to fight often. I would like for fans to think that every time I fight, every time Canelo fights, it’s an important date, whatever the date.

Q. The big Mexican fighters before you, it was almost a requirement to try to speak English, but usually in your interviews, you’ve communicated in Spanish. Do you think that has affected you with regards to how much money you make?
ERIC GOMEZ: You know, something that Canelo is working on, sometimes he’s answering in English and he’s answering it more and more. But most importantly, he has a clean image and that’s what sponsors like. He’s the only fighter right now who directly has sponsors.

Also his style of fighting, the way he is, the fact that he’s clean, all that is better than the language. It’s more important.

And the message is strong: He’s disciplined, clean, educated and that’s more important than language. His style of fighting, too, he always gives great shows and great fights.

CANELO ÁLVAREZ: It hasn’t affected me whether I speak English or not. I try to learn as much as I can. I can understand a lot, and I can maintain a conversation and it has not affected me.

What worries me is fighting and training, and I think people like that more than talking, because if you can speak English, but you can’t fight, or you don’t give good fights, you know, it’s the same thing.

Q. You’ve had a lot of achievements this year. How would you describe the year 2018 for you?
CANELO ÁLVAREZ: It was a year of a lot of learning. I learned a lot and I noticed a lot, but I feel that even though it may have had a bad start it was more the good.

I’ve always known who I am, and I hold my head up high, and it was a year of winning. I learned a lot in my personal and professional life. I learned to be tenacious and train hard and having a strong mentality, it can take you from one extreme to the other, and I’m happy all that I’ve achieved. All that I’ve achieved and what I’ve done has made me the man and the athlete that I am today.

Q. Could you give me just a quick evaluation of Fielding as a boxer, his strengths, weaknesses, what you like about him?
CANELO ÁLVAREZ: He’s a strong fighter. He’s tall and he has a lot of reach, and he’s also used to receiving punches from fighters of a different weight class. I will have to see how I feel because it is a risk there, but we’re training real hard to ensure that there are no surprises.

Q. We have a fight in Los Angeles, Tyson Fury with Deontay Wilder. Do you have any thoughts on that, how the fight will go, what kind of a fight and what do you think might be the winner?
CANELO ÁLVAREZ: I don’t know who will win but it will be a competitive fight. Whoever gives more in the ring will win but also whoever fights more intelligently can win. Wilder throws good, powerful shots, and Tyson boxes more, he moves more, but we will see. I feel it’s a competitive fight.

Q. From those remarks, would you think that perhaps the boxer has the edge?
CANELO ÁLVAREZ: We don’t know. Both have different styles. Wilder is very tall. It will be competitive. If he can box with him and be very prepared, then maybe he can win this fight.

Q. You’re ending 2018 against Rocky Fielding, you said with the win, you’re going to go back down to middleweight. Do you have an idea of what some of your plans for 2019 might be?
CANELO ÁLVAREZ: You know, we don’t know yet. Our plan is to win on December 15. After that, we will see and analyze plans for 2019.

THE MODERATOR: Thank you, everybody.

CANELO ALVAREZ DISCUSSES HIS DESIRE TO BECOME A THREE-DIVISION WORLD CHAMPION AS HE PREPARES TO FACE ROCKY FIELDING FOR THE WBA SUPER MIDDLEWEIGHT WORLD TITLE

SAN DIEGO (Nov. 19, 2018): In a recent visit to his training camp, WBC, WBA, Lineal and Ring Magazine Middleweight World Champion Canelo Alvarez (50-1-2, 34 KOs) discussed his desire to join a select list of Mexican boxers to become a three-division world champion as he prepares for his 12-round fight against Rocky Fielding (27-1, 15 KOs) for the WBA Super Middleweight World Title. Canelo also shared his excitement at fighting at Madison Square Garden in New York City for the first time. The event will take place Saturday, December 15 and will be streamed live on DAZN – which, at just $9.99 per month after a one-month free trial, means new subscribers to DAZN will enjoy the entire Canelo vs. Rocky fight night for free.

There have only been a few Mexican fighters to become three-division world champions, and this illustrious list includes pugilists such as Julio Cesar Chavez, Erik “El Terrible” Morales, Marco Antonio “The Baby-Faced Assassin” Barrera and Jorge “El Travieso” Arce. If Canelo defeats Fielding and joins this list, he would be the only one to become a three-division world champion in a weight class above 140 pounds.

Canelo had the following to say as he prepares to make his New York City debut. The middleweight king also gave some final thoughts on silencing his detractors in his last fight:

“Like I’ve always said, I’ve always considered myself to be the best and now more so than ever. I’m here because of that and because of that motivation to be the best. To be on the pound for pound list or not-that’s something that neither excites me nor upsets me. I’m just happy with what I’ve done and satisfied with what I am doing.”

“It would be a big landmark in my career to be one of fewer than 10 Mexicans to win a world title in three divisions. It’s a big challenge for us and an important landmark that I want in my career. I feel really happy for us [my team].”

“It fills me with pride to be able to fight at Madison Square Garden. I’ve been wanting to fight there for years. To be in such a place where important people such as Muhammad Ali have fought is another landmark in my career. It is an honor to be at an arena like that.”

“I’ve always said that words aren’t always necessary. I’m a serious person who doesn’t like to be talking or sending out messages to my opponents. I’ve always defined myself as being very serious in what I’m doing. I focus on getting in the ring and giving everything I have.”

“Everything that was said about me and the attacks made against me as a person-well, I demonstrated what I’m really made of in my last fight. That’s the nicest feeling-to be able to shut mouths with facts.”

MIDDLEWEIGHT KNOCKOUT SENSATION DAVID LEMIEUX TO FACE TUREANO JOHNSON IN CO-MAIN EVENT OF CANELO VS. ROCKY

NEW YORK CITY (Nov. 15, 2018): Middleweight knockout sensation David Lemieux (40-4, 34 KOs) will look to make a second potential Knockout of the Year performance before 2018 ends as he takes on Tureano Johnson (20-2, 14 KOs) in the scheduled 12-round co-main event of Canelo vs. Rocky. The card will also feature the return of Sadam “World Kid” Ali and will showcase some of Golden Boy Promotions’ best rising stars. The event will take place Saturday, December 15 at Madison Square Garden in New York City and will be streamed live on DAZN–which, at just $9.99 per month after a one-month free trial, means new subscribers to DAZN will enjoy the entire Canelo vs. Rocky fight night for free.

“Golden Boy Promotions will give fans early Christmas gifts this year as we offer yet another great card to close 2018 on a very high note,” said Oscar De La Hoya, CEO and Chairman of Golden Boy Promotions. “David Lemieux still has his eyes set on Canelo, and that night they will be in the same arena. Lemieux knows that if he loses against Tureano Johnson, he can forget about any shot with Canelo. Also, each of these undercard fights, even the ones featuring Sadam Ali, Ryan Garcia, Vergil Ortiz and Lamont Roach, Jr., could easily be the main attraction of any other event, so fans should not miss out on this great night of action – especially when it’s free for new DAZN subscribers.”

Lemieux is a 29-year-old puncher coming off a spectacular first-round knockout victory against Gary “Spike” O’Sullivan on the televised pay-per-view undercard of Canelo vs. GGG2. The native of Montreal, Canada will look to earn another shot at the middleweight crown in this bout against Johnson.

“I’m extremely ready and looking forward to my next fight against [Tureano] Johnson,” said David Lemieux. “I didn’t take a break since my last fight because I thought that I would be facing Canelo. Training camp has been great. Johnson is a solid opponent. I’m ready for an explosive performance and a great victory to end the year in a great way.”

Johnson is a 34-year-old contender who hopes to fight for a world title despite some setbacks. Johnson’s only losses were against Curtis “The Cerebral Assassin” Stevens and Sergiy “The Technician” Derevyanchenko. If the native of Nassau, Bahamas can get past Lemieux, he will join a short list of fighters who are worthy of a middleweight title shot.

“David Lemieux is a former world champion, so he’s the kind of guy I’ll have to defeat if I want a shot at the title,” said Tureano Johnson. “I’ve had some setbacks in my career, but I’m feeling better than I ever have before. I’m excited to be part of this platform and will take advantage of this opportunity with a victory against Lemieux this December.”

“We are happy to have David Lemieux fight on December 15 in the Mecca of boxing,” said Camille Estephan, President of Eye of the Tiger Management. “He is having a great training camp and is getting ready to bring two sledgehammers to the ring, one in his left hand and one in his right. He’s healthy and ready to go.”

Former WBO Junior Middleweight World Champion Sadam “World Kid” Ali (26-2, 14 KOs) of Brooklyn, N.Y. will make his welterweight return against the rugged and experienced Mauricio “El Maestro” Herrera (24-7, 7 KOs) of Riverside, Calif. in a 10-round battle.

Ryan “Kingry” Garcia (16-0, 13 KOs) of Victorville, Calif. will fight for the first time under the tutelage of Eddy Reynoso, head trainer of Canelo Alvarez, in a 10-round lightweight battle.

Yves Ulysse Jr. (16-1, 9 KOs) of Montreal, Canada will return in a 10-round super lightweight fight.

Super lightweight knockout artist Vergil Ortiz (11-0, 11 KOs) of Dallas, Texas will return in a clash scheduled for 10 rounds. Opponents for Garcia, Ulysses and Ortiz will be announced shortly.

Lamont Roach Jr. (17-0-1, 7 KOs) of Washington, D.C. will defend his WBO International Super Featherweight Title against Alberto Mercardo (15-1-1, 3 KOs) of Humacao, Puerto Rico in a 10-round fight.

Bilal Akkawy (18-0-1, 14 KOs) of Sidney, Australia will take on Victor Fonseca (17-8-1, 14 KOs) in a 10-round super middleweight battle

Additional information on this card will be announced shortly.

Framer to defend 130 lb. title against Fonseca on Canelo – Fielding card

IBF Junior Lightweight champion, Tevin Farmer will defend hist title against Francisco Fonseca on the Canelo Alvarez – Rocky Fielding card on December 15th at Madison Square Garden.

“Terms have been agreed to on both sides,” Farmer’s promoter Lou DiBella said.

“Three world title fights in 4½ months — that’s what Tevin wants to be doing and he’s getting the opportunity,” DiBella said. “Beterbiev coming off the card created an opportunity for Tevin. The last fight with Tennyson, he came out with no wear and tear and this is something Tevin wanted to do and an opening was created. I’m thrilled he will get the opportunity to fight at the Garden on the Canelo card, and it’s not too far from home for him so his fans can come out to see him. I think this is a pretty cool situation.”

“Fonseca had a fight canceled and he was already in training so this is a good situation,” DiBella said.

CANELO ALVAREZ RECIEVES RING MAGAZINE MIDDLEWEIGHT WORLD TITLE AND POUND-FOR-POUND CHAMPIONSHIP BELT AT INTERCONTINENTAL HOTEL IN LOS ANGELES

LOS ANGELES (Oct. 18, 2018): Canelo Alvarez (50-1-2, 34 KOs) received the Ring Magazine Middleweight World Title and the Pound-For-Pound Championship Belt at the Intercontinental Hotel in Los Angeles. Canelo, who also holds the WBC, WBA, and Lineal Middleweight World Titles, will move up to 168 pounds to challenge Rocky Fielding (27-1, 15 KOs) for his WBA Super Middleweight World Title in a 12-round main event on Saturday, Dec. 15 at Madison Square Garden and streamed live on DAZN.

Below is what today’s participants had to say at the event:

CANELO ALVAREZ, WBC, WBA, Lineal and Ring Magazine Middleweight World Champion:

“I want to thank God, my team and my family. I want to thank Golden Boy as well. Having a belt like this is a responsibility, and this is a responsibility that I plan to undertake. I never imagined that my success would reach this magnitude. This just shows that with discipline, hard work and love for the sport, one can achieve anything. A lot has changed in one year. It’s been a big change. I’m going to defend this title with honor. See you all on December 15.”

OSCAR DE LA HOYA, Chairman and CEO of Golden Boy Promotions:

“The Ring Magazine World Title is the most prestigious title in boxing. In order to earn it, the top two fighters in the division have to fight. The pound-four-pound belt has been held by great fighters. Bernard Hopkins had it. Pernell Whitaker had it. I had it, and now Canelo Alvarez has it. We are very proud of his accomplishments.”

DOUG FISCHER, Editor-in-Chief at Ring Magazine,

“The lineage of the Ring Magazine Championship belt goes back to Jack Dempsey. The greatest fighters of every era held the Ring Magazine Title. The pound-for-pound title was created in 1993, and it was presented to Pernell Whitaker after his controversial draw against Julio Cesar Chavez, Sr. This is brilliant company that Canelo joins. The belt was with Whitaker, Oscar De La Hoya, Roy Jones, Jr. and Bernard Hopkins.”

Canelo vs. Fielding is a 12-round fight for the WBA Super Middleweight World
Title presented by Golden Boy Promotions in association with Matchroom Boxing. The event is sponsored by Tecate, “THE OFFICIAL BEER OF BOXING,” and Hennessy “Never Stop. CANELO ALVAREZ VS. ROCKY FIELDING NEW YORK CITY PRESS CONFERENCE QUOTES

NEW YORK CITY (Oct. 17, 2018): WBC, WBA, Lineal and Ring Magazine Middleweight World Champion Canelo Alvarez (50-1-2, 34 KOs) and Golden Boy Promotions hosted a press conference today at Hulu Theater at Madison Square Garden to announce a historic five-year partnership that they have signed with global sports streaming leader DAZN. This exciting partnership begins when Canelo challenges Rocky Fielding(27-1, 15 KOs) for his WBA Super Middleweight World Title in a 12-round main event on Saturday, Dec. 15 at Madison Square Garden.

As part of the partnership, Golden Boy Promotions will put on up to 10 high-caliber fight nights per year that will stream live on DAZN beginning in early 2019. This groundbreaking deal with Canelo will be the richest athlete contract in sports history.

The historic deal marks a major change in the boxing landscape, where its biggest stars traditionally fought on pay-per-view. Now, sports fans can view Canelo’s fights and the deep Golden Boy Promotions stable for a low monthly subscription cost. These fights will be available in all DAZN markets, including the United States, Canada, Italy, Germany, Austria, Switzerland and Japan.

Below is what today’s participants had to say at the press conference:

CANELO ALVAREZ, WBC, WBA, Lineal and Ring Magazine Middleweight World Champion:

“There are no words to describe this. I’m so happy to be able to give great fights for less money. That was the biggest motivation for me when doing this deal. I’m happy about this new alliance with DAZN. I’m also happy to be making history by fighting at Madison Square Garden for the first time.”

“My recovery has been great. The cut is recovering. We haven’t started sparring yet, but we will start soon. We will do more than 50 rounds of sparring like in every camp. This is a new challenge, to be moving up in weight. We’ll see how the weight affects me. He’ll be bigger and maybe even stronger than me. This is a risk that I am taking. I’m entering the comfort zone of the champion, but I’ll take this challenge on because that’s what I need to do to make history in my career. I want to be one of the top ten Mexican fighters to become a three-division world champion.”

ROCKY FIELDING, WBA Super Middleweight World Champion:

“I went to Germany and fought for the world title. People wrote me off and didn’t give me a chance. But I won the world title and it only took me five rounds. I worked my whole life to be on the biggest stages, and now I’m fighting the biggest name in the sport at Madison Square Garden. It is every fighter’s dream. I know Canelo is an elite fighter. But I’m going in there as a champion to defend my title and walk away with the victory.”

JOSE “CHEPO” REYNOSO, Manager and Trainer of Canelo Alvarez:

“I want to tell you all a story. The date was June 24, 1968. I was still a child at that time. Mexico was paralyzed on that date. I remember it. They were attentive at the fact that Mexico had a world title challenger in the division of all divisions, heavyweight. On that night, Manuel “Pulgarcito” Ramos challenged Joe Frazier for the heavyweight title at Madison Square Garden. In the first round, Ramos hurt Frazier, and it looked like our hopes would come true. But in the following round, he was stopped and was badly hurt. The magic ended, and the hope ended. But on that day, I first heard the name of Madison Square Garden, and I will never forget it. Now that I’m here with the pride of Mexico, it is an honor for me.”

EDDY REYNOSO, Manager and Head Trainer of Canelo Alvarez:

“We are very happy about the good news between Golden Boy and DAZN. On December 15 we have another important challenge before us. European boxing has been going strong and moving forward. They have great champions such as Carl Frampton and Anthony Joshua. We know that Fielding is strong and tough, and he’s coming off a streak of good victories. We know it is a big challenge to be moving up to 168 pounds. He is a strong fighter who is well-schooled in the sport of boxing. But we want to make history. We want to let everyone know that Mexican boxing will always be the best.”

JAMIE MOORE, Trainer to Rocky Fielding:

“It’s a privilege to be in such an arena, the Mecca of boxing, Madison Square Garden. It’s privilege to be able to share the ring with a great fighter like Canelo. But I believe I have the right type of fighter with me. He has all the attributed to give Canelo problems. Canelo has never fought at super middleweight and he’s never fought anyone with the size that Rocky Fielding has. Rocky has come along way. He has had setbacks, but they have taken him to where he is today. We will walk away with the victory on Dec. 15.”

ERIC GOMEZ, President of Golden Boy Promotions:

“As we all know, the sport is undergoing an enormous change. We at Golden Boy Promotions have taken a major step forward to adapt to this change. That’s why I’m happy to announce that Golden Boy Promotions and Canelo Alvarez have signed a historic partnership with the leader of sports streaming, DAZN. This is a direct and unprecedented partnership between two major global companies in the sport, Golden Boy Promotions and DAZN. As a Golden Boy fighter, Canelo became the undisputed pay-per-view king. But now Canelo is starting a new era in the sport by having his next 11 fights on this amazing platform.”

JOHN SKIPPER, DAZN Group Executive Chairman:

“Oscar De La Hoya, as a fighter and a promoter, has been the most important figure in the history of boxing on pay-per-view. Right now is the most important fighter on pay-per-view. Canelo has sold 3.6 million buys in his last 3 pay-per-views fights for a total subscription revenue of a quarter of a billion dollars. His next 11 fights will be available exclusively and internationally on DAZN.”

EDDIE HEARN, Managing Director of Matchroom Boxing

“This fight is a wonderful opportunity for Rocky Fielding. He always kept patient. He traveled to Germany to win the world title. He’s always boxed everyone we’ve offered him. This is a golden opportunity for him. He comes in as the defending champion, but he’s also blessed to fight at one of the best arenas in sports history.”

Never Settle.” The event will take place Saturday, December 15 at Madison Square Garden in New York City and will be streamed live on DAZN.

CANELO ALVAREZ & GOLDEN BOY PROMOTIONS SIGN HISTORIC FIVE-YEAR PARTNERSHIP WITH GLOBAL SPORTS STREAMING LEADER DAZN

NEW YORK, Oct. 17, 2018 – Canelo Alvarez (50-1-2, 34 KOs) – the undisputed king of pay-per-view boxing – will usher in a new era in the sport by signing an 11-fight deal with global sports streaming leader DAZN. The journey begins Saturday, Dec. 15 when Canelo makes his first appearance at the historic Madison Square Garden challenging Rocky Fielding (27-1, 15 KOs) for his WBA Super Middleweight World Title. This groundbreaking deal with Canelo will be the richest athlete contract in sports history.

As part of the partnership, Golden Boy Promotions will put on up to 10 high-caliber fight nights per year that will stream live on DAZN beginning in early 2019.

“I’ve always liked a challenge, and this is yet another challenge in my career,”

said Canelo Alvarez.

“Being part of this historic deal will require me to prepare myself even more and offer fans even better performances. At the same time, I am humbled to be selected to lead this new vision for the sport of boxing, which will without a doubt be for the benefit of the fans.”
“This is easily one of the best days in the growing history of Golden Boy Promotions,”

said Oscar De La Hoya, Golden Boy Promotions Chairman and CEO.

“We are committed to making this sport as accessible as possible and at an affordable price for all the fans. My dream has been to make boxing a sport for all. DAZN has the perfect platform to make this dream come true, and with the biggest star in the sport at the helm of this journey, I have no doubts that we will succeed in unimaginable ways.”

“We are thrilled to be exclusive partners with Golden Boy Promotions and Oscar De La Hoya,”

said John Skipper, DAZN Group Executive Chairman.

“By bringing Canelo’s fights to DAZN, we will turn his pay-per-view success into a growth engine for subscribers – a truly transformational moment for our business and the entire industry.”

Alvarez is coming off the biggest win of his career in September, a thrilling majority decision victory against Gennady “GGG” Golovkin to become the WBC, WBA, Lineal and Ring Magazine Middleweight champion. His 50-win career also boasts victories over Miguel Cotto, Amir “King” Khan, Erislandy “The American Dream” Lara, Austin “No Doubt” Trout, Sugar Shane Mosley, among many others. Now Alvarez will seek to join a small and illustrious list of three-division world champions from Mexico as he steps up to 168 pounds to challenge Fielding.

DAZN burst on to the scene just over two years ago, debuting in Germany, Austria, Switzerland and Japan. Its early success across Europe and Asia was followed by launches in Canada (2017), Italy (2018) and the United States (2018), where DAZN announced blockbuster deals with Matchroom Boxing and Bellator MMA to deliver a stacked slate of fight sports content upon entry into the market.

The DAZN-Golden Boy deal includes a large production element, which places Oscar De La Hoya as Executive Producer of the 12 live fight nights annually. The live productions will be a collaboration between DAZN and Golden Boy Media and Entertainment, De La Hoya’s in-house production arm, and will push the boundaries of traditional boxing shows by incorporating new features with virtual graphics and social media interaction.

Oscar De La Hoya’s 7,000-hour library of fights spanning his career as a boxer and a promoter are included in the partnership and these classic bouts will be available on DAZN. Additionally, Golden Boy Media and Entertainment will produce volumes of shoulder programs for the DAZN platform, including live studio shows such as “Between the Ropes” and its award winning “Mano a Mano.” De La Hoya has had a vision for the sport of boxing, and part and parcel to that vision are new approaches to telling the stories of the fighters for a global audience through live, scripted and social media programming. The new partnership between DAZN and Golden Boy allow this vision to flourish and to create narratives that appeal across demographic categories worldwide.

THE FACE OF BOXING IS HEADED TO THE BIG APPLE! CANELO ALVAREZ TO MAKE NEW YORK CITY DEBUT AGAINST WBA SUPER MIDDLEWEIGHT WORLD CHAMPION ROCKY FIELDING

NEW YORK (Oct. 8, 2018) – Canelo Alvarez (50-1-2, 34 KOs), the universally recognized middleweight champion of the world and the veritable face of boxing, will make his New York City debut as he faces WBA Super Middleweight World Champion Rocky Fielding (27-1, 15 KOs) in a special 12-round super middleweight attraction on Saturday, Dec. 15 at Madison Square Garden.

Additional details for the event, including ticket information, will be announced shortly.

Canelo, the 28-year-old native of Guadalajara, Jalisco, Mexico, is without a doubt boxing’s biggest star. After capturing two world titles and the lineal championship in the super welterweight division, Canelo moved up to middleweight to capture the WBC, Lineal and
Ring Magazine World Titles with a unanimous decision victory against Miguel Cotto in November 2015. Canelo has maintained his status as the lineal champion ever since. But after his historic win against Gennady “GGG” Golovkin in their highly anticipated rematch in September, Canelo captured the WBC, WBA and Ring Magazine Middleweight World Titles and established himself as the very best in the division. Canelo will look to capture a world title in a third division against Fielding.

“It has always been a desire of mine to fight in New York, and where better than at the Mecca of Boxing, Madison Square Garden?” said Canelo Alvarez. “I look forward to exploring this 160-pound division against current WBA World Champion Rocky Fielding. I will be representing the WBC as its current middleweight world champion as I continue demonstrating to the world that I am the best pound-for-pound fighter in the world.”

Fielding is a 31-year-old native of Liverpool, England who climbed the 168-pound rankings by fighting the toughest fighters in his native country. Fielding has only suffered one loss in his career, against who would eventually be a world champion in Callum Smith. Since then, he has scored six victories in a row, including his career-best win against Tyron Zeuge to capture the WBA Super Middleweight World Title in July. Fielding will defend his title in what will be his United States debut.

“This is everything that I’ve ever dreamed of – fighting a pound-for-pound star at Madison Square Garden for my world title,” said Rocky Fielding. “I can really punch. Everyone knows that. Let’s see what happens on the night when I catch him clean. He’s [Canelo] stepping up in weight, and he’s not going to be a big super middleweight. I know how good he is, but we will come up with a plan to beat him. I know I can catch him and put him to sleep.”

“It was about time that the biggest star in boxing headed to Madison Square Garden,” said Oscar De La Hoya, CEO and Chairman of Golden Boy Promotions. “Nearly every great fighter has fought at this historic arena. Canelo is establishing a historic legacy, and I’m excited that fans in New York will be able to see this great talent in such a famed place for boxing.”

“This will be a huge night for Rocky Fielding, and one he couldn’t turn down – the chance to fight one of the biggest names of the sport in an iconic and historic venue in Madison Square Garden,” said Eddie Hearn of Matchroom Boxing. “Although Rocky is the champion, we thank Golden Boy Promotions, Oscar De La Hoya and Eric Gomez for this wonderful opportunity. New York can expect a Liverpool invasion on December 15 and a great atmosphere in the Big Apple.”

Canelo vs. Fielding is a 12-round fight for WBA Super Middleweight World Title presented by Golden Boy Promotions in association with Matchroom Boxing. The event is sponsored by Tecate, “THE OFFICIAL BEER OF BOXING,” and Hennessy “Never Stop.
