NEW FRANK WARREN signing Sam Gilley will make his Queensberry debut on Friday October 18 at York Hall where he will defend his Commonwealth championship and fight for the vacant British super welterweight title against Louis Greene.

It will be a rematch of an original thrilling encounter of the fan-friendly favourites, with Gilley (17-1, 8 KOs) prevailing via a unanimous decision in October of last year. Greene (17-4, 11) has since scored a spectacular 1st round stoppage over the previously unbeaten Jack McGann over in Riyadh, which secured his mandated status for this fight.

Also on the card in a fourth eight rounder will be precocious super featherweight talent Royston Barney-Smith (11-0, 5), who in his last fight became WBO Youth champion with a decision victory over Brian Barajas.

The vacant Southern Area heavyweight title will be on the line in Bethnal Green when the unbeaten Courtney Bennett (5-0, 2) goes up against the experienced campaigner Nick Webb (17-3, 13) over 10 rounds.

Another new Frank Warren recruit, US star super middleweight Abel Gonzalez (7-0, 5), will introduce himself in London over eight rounds, with unbeaten Featherweight Umar Khan (10-0,1) also fighting over eight, along with the Norfolk Nightmare, top cruiserweight prospect Tommy Fletcher (8-0, 6) and Liverpool super welterweight Jack McGann (10-1-1, 7) will be in action over six.

“This is another cracking little card,” said promoter Frank Warren. “It features a potential fight of the year for the British and Commonwealth titles between our new man Sam Gilley and Louis Greene. Anyone who knows their boxing will be aware of what sort of fight we are in for with this one. I am very much looking forward to getting Sam going and victory will open a lot of doors for him.

“We also get to welcome Abel Gonzalez to the Queensberry fold and I believe we are in for an exciting ride with him, plus we have a big domestic heavyweight showdown that the fans will definitely enjoy.

“In Royston Barney-Smith and Tommy Fletcher we have two of the most accomplished prospects in the country taking a next step, while I am also looking forward to witnessing the progress of Umar Khan and the debut of Elliott Elmasi.”

COMMONWEALTH SUPER WELTERWEIGHT champion Sam Gilley has signed a promotional agreement with Frank Warren and Queensberry.

‘Magic Man’ Gilley holds a record of 17-1 (8 KOs) and last saw action at York Hall in October of last year when he overcame Louis Greene over 12 rounds to secure his Commonwealth status.

Previously the 30-year-old became English champion at the end of 2021 with a stoppage victory over Evaldas Korsakas and went on to make two successful defences of the belt against Drew Brown and Sean Robinson.

The only blot on the card of Gilley, from Walthamstow, came on a Queensberry card during the lockdown period in early 2021 when he took on Danny Ball for the WBC International Silver title and was edged out on points over 10 rounds at the Copper Box Arena.

“Oh mate, it is a dream come true, really,” said the mandatory challenger for the British title, against Louis Greene again, on his link up with Frank Warren. “I am now 30 years old, which is scary to say, and it is the first time I have been actually signed by a promoter. So to be signed by Frank, with what he is doing in British boxing, is massive.

“I think it is going to be a good team-up with this being the main three years of my career coming up, so I am ecstatic and I just can’t wait to get going.

“I have been ready to go for a year and I have been promised fight dates that haven’t happened, so thankfully Frank has taken me on and I can start getting some regular fights and putting on some good shows.

“We have been mandatory for the British for a long time. I had an injury at the start of the year that stopped me fighting Jack McGann, which is why Louis jumped in. We obviously know what Louis done and now I am stuck with him again!

“I am not like a flashy boxer,” Gilley added on his entertainment value. “I throw a lot of bombs and, of my last five or six opponents, every one of them has been on the floor and I’ve been in two fight of the year contenders in that time. So I am always in exciting fights and people do enjoy it when I am in the ring.”

Promoter Frank Warren added: “I am delighted to add Sam to our ranks because he is a quality and an exciting fighter who wants to be in big fights. He has clearly shown his pedigree over recent years with some excellent wins and he will now be given every opportunity to push on and step up in class.

“I am confident that Sam will quickly add more belts to his collection and become an exciting and very popular feature on Queensberry and TNT Sports shows.”

Isaac Chamberlain won a 12-round unanimous decision over Miakel Lawal in a cruiserweight bout at York Hall in London, England.

Chamberlain, 199, lbs of Brixton, ENG won by scores of 118-110 twice and 117-111 and is now 16-2. Lawal, 198 lbs of Sheperd’s Bush, ENG is 17-1.

Sam Gilley won a 12-round unanimous decision over Louis Greene in a super welterweight fight.

In round five, Gilley dropped Greene with a left to the body.

Gilley, 154 lbs of Walthamstow, ENG won by scores of 118-110, 117-110 and 116-111 and is now 17-1. Greene, 152 lbs of Strood, ENG is 16-4.

Joe Laws won an eight-round decision over Michael Hennessy Jr. in a super middleweight fight.

Laws, 165 lbs of Benwell, ENG won by a score of 77-75 and is now 14-2. Hennessy, 164 lbs of Sevenoaks, ENG is 11-2-1.

Kariss Artingstall remained undefeated with a stoppage after round two of her featherweight bout with Vanessa Bradford.

In round one, Artingstall dropped Bradford with a straight left hand. In round two, it was another straight left that put Bradford on the deck.

Artingstall, 126 lbs of Maccesfield, ENG is 5-0 with one knockout. Bradford, 125 lbs of Edmonton, CAN is 7-5-2.

English super-welterweight champion Gilley, fighting out of Walthamstow, booked this shot at Greene’s Commonwealth title in June, when he landed a blistering body-shot knockout of Ellis Corrie at London’s historic York Hall in what was the third stoppage victory of his last four outings.

2020 Olympics bronze medallist Karriss Artingstall (4-0) is also confirmed for the card, heading to The O2 in London for what will be her fifth professional outing and her second time competing over eight rounds as she works her way up the rankings and towards title contention. Her opponent will be revealed in the near future.

And sparks are set to fly in a ten-round super-welterweight encounter when Michael Hennessy (11-1, 2 KO’s) – son of veteran British boxing manager Mick Hennessy and brother to recent BOXXER signing Fran Hennessy – meets an opponent with an equally deep British boxing heritage: Harley Benn (9-2, 1 KO), son of former two-weight world champion Nigel Benn.
