Alexis Rocha won a 10-round unanimous decision over previously undefeated Santiago Dominguez in a welterweight bout at the Fantasy Springs Resort in Indio, California.

The fight featured some solid exchanges with Rocha getting the best of the majority of them.

Rocha landed 184 of 549 punches. Dominguez was 89 of 459.

Rocha, 146.4 lbs of Santa Ana, CA won by scores of 99-91 twice and 98-92 and is now 25-2. Dominguez, 146.9 lbs of Sonora, MEX is 27-1.

“I wanted to show everyone that I’m not just a banger, I can use my IQ in there and that’s what I needed,” said Alexis Rocha. “I knew Dominguez was going to come forward, he just keeps coming, so that’s what I wanted to show. It’s more about my brains from now on. I want to be very aware in the ring, and I want to use my brains. That’s all you’re going to see moving forward. I have a great team behind me, Golden Boy, and we’re just going to see what’s next. I’m right there. I’m knocking on the door still. The belts are gonna be open anytime soon, so I’m just knocking on the door right now.

Gregory Morales won a 10-round unanimous decision over Jayvon Garnett in a super featherweight bout.

Morales landed 143 of 742 punches. Garnett was 73 of 357.

Morales, 127 lbs of San Antonio won by scores of 99-91, 98-92 and 96-94 and is now 17-1. Garnett, 126 lbs of Cincinnati is 10-2.

“I feel amazing. I feel like there’s room for improvement, it was my first 10-rounds,” said Gregory Morales. “There’s only room for improvement from here on out. I learned the pace of the fight. I learned to pick it up, slow it down. I learned that I can do a full 10 rounds.”

Grant Flores remained undefeated with a second round stoppage over Juan Meza in a four-round super welterweight fight.

In round two, Flores landed a huge right that rocked Meza into into the ropes. Flores then landed about 15 unanswered blows and Meza was stopped on his feet at 1:54.

Flores, 151.4 lbs of Coachella, CA is 6-0 with five knockouts. Meza, 151 lbs of Los Angeles is 4-6.

Jorge Chavez remained undefeated with a six-round unanimous decision over Riku Kitani in a featherweight bout.

Chavez landed 78 of 312 punches. Kitani was 33 of 196.

Chavez, 125.8 lbs of Tijuana, MEX won by scores of 60-54 om all cards and is now 12-0. Kitani, 125.2 lbs of Mexico City is 8-3,

Bryan Lua stopped veteran Diuhl Olguin in round five of their six-round lightweight bout.

Lua dominated the action featuring thudding body punches and beat Olguin down until a referee stoppage at 2:03.

Lua, 133 lbs of Indio, CA is 10-0 with five knockouts. Olguin, 130 lbs of Guadalajara, MEX is 16-39-7.

The younger brother of former world title challenger Ronny Rios, Alexis Rocha was the youngest fighter to win a gold medal at the Junior Olympics at only 14-years-old in 2012 and caught the attention of the boxing world as he continued on to become a six-time national champion during his amateur career. Undefeated Mexican welterweight Santiago “Somer” Dominguez (25-0, 19 KOs) returned to the ring after a 10-month idle stretch, but the heavy-handed prospect made up for lost time, stopping Jesus “Chino” Antonio Rubio (13-5-1, 7 KOs) midway through the fifth round of the main event, when Rubio suddenly turned his back to the action to halt their fight.

Dominguez, a former NABF Welterweight Champion, was out of the ring for personal reasons. His long-awaited return resulted in him capturing another title belt, the vacant World Boxing Council (WBC) Latino welterweight championship.

Rubio was coming off an unsuccessful challenge for the vacant WBA Interim World Super Lightweight Championship, in which he lost a 12-round decision to Alberto Puello (18-0) Prior to that fight, Rubio won an 8-round decision over 21-3 Sonny Fredickson.

Former WBC Youth Silver Featherweight Champion Jose “El Sugar” Eduardo Nunez (22-1, 22 KOs) won his 12th straight fight in the co-featured event, knocking out Osvaldo “Catotas” Maldonado (10-2, 5 KOs) in the ninth round. The heavy-handed Santiago, who is a former NABF Welterweight Champion, takes on Jesus “Chino” Antonio Rubio (13-4, 7 KOs) in the 10-round main event.

Santiago hasn’t fought since last December 10th, when he won a 10-round split decision over Ricardo Lara (22-8). “My body just needed a break,” Dominguez explained his 10-month inactive stretch. “I fought five times in 2019, four in 2020, and won the NABF welterweight title in the process. I’m ready physically, mentally, and spiritually.”

Rubio represents the toughest test of Dominguez’ 7-year pro career based on him challenging Alberto Puello (18-0) in his most recent fight, albeit in a loss by 12-round decision, for the vacant WBA Interim World Super Lightweight Championship. An 8-round win by decision against Sonny Fredrickson in his previous fight set-up Rubio’s title shot.

“I know he (Rubio) is a very good boxer,” Dominguez spoke about his opponent. “He defeated an American (Fredrickson) foe who was 21-3 at the time. He just fought for the world title. I expect him to come in shape and with a will to win. This will be a fight! I will make it a fight whether or not my opponent wants one or not.

“I know that eventually these big names will have to fight me. If all goes well (versus Rubio), I hope to get back into the WBC’s top 15 rankings, and have an opportunity to fight guys like Mikey Garcia, Danny Garcia, Amir Khan, and other great former world champions. I want to earn my world title opportunity and a victory over one of these great fighters will do just that for me.”

The 29-year-old Santiago, Mexico’s No. 1 rated welterweight, was extended the full distance for only the sixth time during his pro career. The reigning North American Boxing Federation (NABF) champion fought four times in 2020, including three during the pandemic.

In the co-featured event, Luis “Koreano” Torres (10-0, 7 KOs) destroyed Juan Marcos “Mudo” Rodriguez Ortiz (9-3, 7 KOs), brutally knocking him out in the third round. Torres holds the WBC Youth Silver lightweight title.

On Wednesday (Dec. 9), rising Guatemalan star Lester Martinez (6-0, 6 KOs) will meet Uriel “Big Bang” Gonzalez (20-6-1, 16 KOs) in the 8-round main event for the vacant World Boxing Council (WBC) Latino super middleweight championship. The 25-year-old Martinez made a sensational pro debut April 6, 2019, stopping former world champion Ricardo Mayorga (32-11) in the second round.

The co-featured event is a typical RJJ Boxing match-up between Houston featherweight Pablo “The Lethal” Mosquito” Cruz (20-02, 6 KOs) and Eddy “Dianamita” Valencia (15-5, 5 KOs), of Mexico, in an 8-round bout.

Undefeated featherweight Alan Solis (11-0, 6 KOs), a 6-time Mexican National champion as an amateur, takes on Abelardo “Bolito” Sanchez (7-1, 4 KOs) in an 8-rounder. The first fight of the night and UFC FIGHT PASS opener will showcase Cuban-born and Guatemala resident, super bantamweight Ariel Perez de la Torre (3-0, 3 KOs), who had more than 150 amateur matches, in a 6-round bout versus an opponent to be determined.

The following evening’s (Wed.) card is headlined by WBC No. 12 rated welterweight champion Santiago “Somer” Dominguez (23-0, 11 KOs), who is the reigning North American Boxing Federation titlist. The Mexican knockout artist faces Ricardo “Riky” Lara (22-8, 10 KOs) in the 10roound, non-title fight. Dominguez wants an All-Mexican match-up for the WBC Latino title against Mauricio Pintor (23-3, 14 KOs), but first he must get past the durable Lara.

WBC Youth Silver lightweight champion Luis “Koreano” Torres (11-0, 8 KOs) takes on fellow Mexican Juan Marcos “Mundo” Rodriguez Ortiz (9-2, 7 KOs) in the 8-round co-featured event. The 18-year-old Torres has a fan-friendly style in addition to invaluable experience from his last three fights against opponents with a combined record of 31-3.

Three Cuban fighters who now live in Guatemala are also slated to be in action: featherweight Jailer Lopez (3-0, 2 KOs) vs. Armando Ramirez (3-0), heavyweight Geovany “La Bestia” Bruzon (4-0, 4 KOs) vs. TBA, and super welterweight Yoelves “La Joya” Gomez (2-0, 2 KOs) vs. David “El Nene” Rangel (13-7, 9 KOs). Lopez is in a 4-rounder, Bruzon and Gomez in 6-round bouts. Bruzon, a southpaw, was the 2014 Cuban National Youth champion. A 2-time Cuban Youth champion, Gomez is a technically sound, aggressive power puncher whose father, Jose Gomez, captured a medal at the 1980 Olympics.

COCORIT, Sonora, Mexico (September 29, 2020) – Undefeated, world-rated Santiago “Somer” Dominguez (23-0, 18 KOs) defeated Jose Rosario Cazarez (19-6-1, 10 KOs), by way of a third-round technical knockout, last Saturday night to capture the vacant North American Boxing Federation (NABF) welterweight title last night in Cocorit, Sonora, Mexico.

Dominguez, 28, added the NABF crown to his growing collection of hardware, which had already included the World Boxing Council (WBC) FECARBOX and USNBC (United States) straps.

“I sensed fear from my opponent in the beginning stages of the fight,” Dominguez said after the fight. “I was not going to be denied.”

Saturday night’s card, presented by De La O Promotions, was headlined by the tremendous power-punching Dominguez, who is rated No. 14 by the World Boxing Council (WBC).

“We’re excited about Santiago’s potential,” added his promoter, Roy Jones, Jr. Boxing CEO and co-founder Keith Veltre. “Now, he’s champion of three organizations, and climbing the ratings towards a world title fight, hopefully, in 2021. He’s the best welterweight in Mexico, rated number 14 by the WBC, and improving each fight.”

Cazarez, who had been unbeaten in his previous seven fights (6-0-1) when he entered the ring to fight Dominguez, had been previously stopped only once four years ago.

Santiago has been one of the most active fighters having been in action twice within four weeks, August 25th and September 26th.

“I’m taking a two-week vacation and then start camp in the United States to improve my skills through better sparring,” Dominguez concluded. “My job is to fight and take care of my family. My manager (Terry Hollan) finds me the opportunity, my team prepares me to win.”

In the main event, Torres improved to 10-0 (8 KOs) with a convincing win by 10-round unanimous decision over Jose Luis Vazquez (10-2, 3 KOs) for the vacant WBC Youth Silver lightweight championship. Torres, whose nickname is for his Asian features, had never fought more than four rounds during his young pro career.

Dominguez (22-0, 17 KOs) dropped late replacement and fellow Mexican knockout artist, Jadalberto “Terrible” Borquez (30-20-1, 27 KOs), three times in the first round of their title fight for the WBC FECARBOX and WBC United States welterweight crowns. Borquez, a former WBC Continental Americas featherweight champion, was blasted out by rising star Dominguez in the opening round.

The top world-rated Mexican welterweight in the world, Dominguez has now stopped nine of his last 10 opponents, as he ascends the rankings with each fight. He won the vacant FECARBOX title and retained his WBC U.S. crown.

The 25-year-old Jones (6-0, 6 KOs), the only non-Mexican fighter on the card, kept his perfect pro record intact, winning all six of his fights by stoppage, with a 4th-round knockout of Mario “Cachalote” Israel Vera (6-2, 0 KOs). Jones, fighting out of Phoenix, AZ, fought past the second round for the first time since his pro debut last November.

ALPINE, Calif. (August 26, 2019) – All three undefeated fighters showcased last Saturday night on another installment of RJJ Boxing on UFC FIGHT PASS® — Irish middleweight
Connor “The Kid Coyle, Mexican super welterweight Santiago “Somer” Dominguez and Colombian super bantamweight Brandon Valdes – each won in relatively easy fashion, fighting outdoors at Viejas Casino and Resort in Alpine, California.

The 29-year-old Coyle (11-0, 4 KOs) dropped Ramirez (21-5-2, 4 KOs) in the opening round, but the Irishman was penalized a point for pushing his opponent to the canvas. Coyle overwhelmed Ramirez when he came out of his corner for the second round forcing the pressure and he never let up. The relentless Coyle unleashed a barrage of unanswered punches, dropping Ramirez once again, when suddenly a white towel came flying out of Ramirez’ corner, signifying his cornermen had seen enough.

Coyle, fighting out of Derry, Northern Ireland, improved to 11-0 overall as a pro, winning all nine of his fights in the United States, and 2-0 fighting under of the RJJ Boxing banner.

Ramirez, who was a longtime sparring partner for Floyd Mayweather, Jr., fought for the first time since last November. He entered the ring riding a six-fight win streak, coming out on top in 10 of his last 11 fights.
