Eddie Hearn, Matchroom Sport Chairman:
“Welcome everybody to the stunning Monte-Carlo Showdown. The sixth instalment of this incredible event. We cannot wait to get underway on Saturday night. Of course, completely sold-out – this is by far the most popular event we’ve seen so far in this six-event series. So many international travellers coming to this very special place for a very special fight night. Like Jamie and Darren said, by far the strongest card we have ever seen here in Monte-Carlo. Boxing right now is red-hot. Just a few weeks ago we filled the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium with 70,000 people when Conor Benn beautifully defeated Chris Eubank Jr. We then flew to Saudi Arabia for The Ring 4 – one of the greatest cards we’ve seen top to bottom. Ben Whittaker’s viral knockout last week was incredible in Birmingham. This week here in Monaca before we head to Stockton. The big fights keep on coming. The small matter of Anthony Joshua against Jake Paul. Our first event in Ghana. A run out on a Wednesday evening at The O2. Back for the Night of the Samuri in Saudi Arabia. Look at 2026 already stacking up. Andy Cruz going for the World Championship on January 24th in Las Vegas. January 31st, quite incredible, Shakur Stevenson will take on Teofimo Lopez in New York whilst Josh Kelly fights Bakhram Murtazaliev for the World Championship. Wood-Warrington already locked in, Nunez against Navarrete and so much more to come, always exclusively live on DAZN – the Global Home of Boxing.”

Albert Manzone, Deputy Chief Executive Monte-Carlo Société des Bains de mer:
“Ladies and gentlemen, I wish you a warm welcome at the Sporting Monte-Carlo in this mythical Salle Des Etoiles. For more than 50 years this prestigious ballroom has been the theatre of Monaco’s prestigious events and famous stars. From Frank Sinatra to Celine Dion, Rhiana and much more – the stage has been the one of the stars. It is therefore not only a privilege, but a great pleasure to host here on Saturday evening the international boxing stars. In partnership with Matchroom Boxing at the occasion on the sixth edition of the Monte-Carlo showdown. Probably most renowned for its gaming luxury hospitality activities, Monte-Carlo also has a long tradition in sports. We look forward to welcoming you all on Saturday evening. Thank you.”

Michael Wittstock:
“Good afternoon, ladies and gentlemen. I’d like to welcome all of the boxers to the Principality on behalf of the Prince, Eddie and Frank from Matchroom Boxig. I please want you to enjoy the facility here, and I think the boys from Matchroom have put on a fantastic show for us on Saturday night. Obviously over time I’ve thanked everyone and explained how we got to where we are with the prestigious promoting company here. We started 13 years ago with the Prince’s blessing. Just to finish, there’s a very angry world out there today, and I’ve been following Matchroom over the last couple of years building bridges and creating friendships between all nations through boxing. I think a big compliment must go to Eddie and his team. If we had more people in the world doing that today I think we would live in a much better place than we have at the moment. So well done Eddie, it’s a pleasure dealing with you, and thank you very much.”

Laurent Puons, General Director of the Monegasque Boxing Federation:
“First of all I would like to thank everyone for being here. Welcome to Monaco. As Eddie said, on Saturday night we are going to have the opportunity and the privilege to attend a prestigious and amazing event, a very interesting boxing event, in Monte-Carlo, in this beautiful venue. Thank you to SBM for your support in organising event. I said amazing because I am impressed by the level of the fights and the level of the boxers who will be in the ring on Saturday night. Interesting because I could say that it is very important, on Saturday night believe me, we can’t give the name of the winner before the end of the fight. It’s very important in the boxing world. Now I would just like to remind you that our boxer Hugo Micallef started his career in Monaco, in this venue more than 10 years ago. On Saturday night he will fight for an international title. The Monagas Boxing Federation and myself would like to congratulate you. I am very proud of you.”

Sean McComb:
“I would just like to thank yourself and Frank and everybody who has helped get me here. The Monaco Boxing Federation obviously have high expectations of Huge Micallef and what he brings to the table. I have full belief and full trust in my own ability to overcome any challenge. Even if it is in someone else’s back garden. This is what I have trained for. This is the opportunity that I want. My family is burying my grandmother today, so it just shows you how hungry I am to be here. This is the opportunity that I want and we’re ready for it. The Irish always travel well. They travel in numbers. They can outnumber people with the noise they carry. That’s something special with Irish support. It’s great to give them the opportunity to come out here to a place like Monaco.”

Hugo Micallef:
“I love when they count me out. All my life they have counted me out. I’m from Monaco, in the boxing world people say, ‘what, from Monaco?’ It’s like it is impossible. When I was an amateur in the Olympic qualification, they counted me out. In all of the tournaments I was in, they counted me out. On Saturday night I am going to win and say that’s because I’m in Monaco. Keep counting me out. We’ll see on Saturday night. I know my capacity. The team knows my capacity. The most important thing here I believe is to come back with the title. I wasn’t really concerned about who the opponent was, I was more concerned about the title. That’s how and why I am here now. That’s what I said in the other interviews. I don’t feel the pressure. I’ve already boxed in Monaco in my career maybe six or seven times. One time as a professional. I know the ambience and I know the vibes of Monaco during fight week. I’m in my bubble until the fights finish. I don’t feel nothing. When the fight finishes I feel happy, and that’s the moment I can enjoy.”

Ivan Balaz:
“For me it was a short notice fight. I grabbed it with both hands, and I’ve come here to win in style. We have with my team some tactics for this fight. We hope they will work on Johnny. It is a very big fight for me. For me it can be a life-changing fight.”

Johnny Fisher:
“First of all, thank you to the Principality of Monaco for making us feel so welcome. It’s exciting to be here. When I started my career, moments like this and memories like this are what we wanted to create. As you said. I’ve got a new trainer, I’ve got a new regime, and my job is to go in there and destructive, and that’s what I’m going to do. For me it makes no difference if we fight in Romford, Monaco or Saudi Arabia – my job is always going to be the same and that’s to be The Romford Bull. Perhaps in the past I’ve tried to change what I am too much. I am The Romford Bull, I’m an aggressive, attacking fighter and I believe I’m going to show the best of that on Saturday night.

Beatriz Ferreira:
“I’m very happy to be here again. I know the importance of this fight. I’m ready and I’m happy to be here in Monaco once again. This very important event is special to me. It is amazing. I am very happy. I believe it is going to be a war. We are going to put on a show for the public. She won’t be able to take the belt – that is not going to happen.”

Elif Turan:
“First of all, sorry my English isn’t very good. Welcome. Before this fight I fought in eleven fights, I haven’t lost yet but every single fight, including this one, I’ve prepared as if it is a championship fight. I know my opponent has prepared as well as I have. She is a warrior, and I am a warrior too. On Saturday night we are going to find out who prepared the best, and hopefully that is me. It’s not about fight night, or the fight week build-up to the fight. It’s all about the preparation before the fight I’ve trained like a warrior. I’ve put myself through the paces. Bringing the belt back to my country is as important as anything. Hopefully we can do that. I’m sure that Saturday is going to be a war. I’ve prepared for a war. Thank you very much.”

Conah Walker:
“That was the reason I picked Pat – to be the underdog. I thrive off it. It’s where I’m at home. We had the opportunity to take a voluntary defence of the British Title. I said no because I wanted a challenge. I’ve done my apprenticeship and I’m here for big fights now. I’m British Champion and I’ve defended. I’m meant to be here now. Six fights ago you brought me in to lose. What a mistake that was! I’m just over the moon with getting the opportunity to fight here and fight such a good fighter, because he’s a great fighter. I’m just too hungry, I’ve got too much in the tank for him.”

Pat McCormack:
“Activity is key, that’s the only thing we were missing. I was out for a little bit with an injury but we’re back now. We’ve had a good year this year and we’re going to finish it strong. My last performance was probably my best performance and it was the best fighter I’ve faced so far. I’ve always said when the level goes up my performances go up. I’ve had 9 fights as a pro but I feel like I’m a lot further ahead than 9 fights. I never really look at the odds to be honest. He’s obviously at my weight, he’s boxed a few lads from the North East. As soon as he won the British Title I thought, this fight is definitely going to happen.”

Shabaz Masoud:
“First all praise goes to God. I worked my way up to this position. I’m ready, I’m more than ready for a fight like this. I’m going to show everyone what time it us. I’ve been in the gym the whole year, even when I had that injury, I was still in the gym working on other things. You can ask anyone in the team, I’m a bit of a gym rat, I’m always in the gym. Peter is a very god fighter. He’s got good skills and stuff. I believe in myself, and I know what I’ve got. A lot of people are going to see on Saturday night.”

Peter McGrail:
“I’m excited for this fight. It’s a main event in Monte-Carlo and it’s for the European Title. It’s a big one. It’s the biggest fight of my life to date and it’s going to be a great fight. One hundred percent Ed. One hundred percent. I’ve been working so hard this camp. I’m up against a very very good fighter. I’m in the shape of my life and you’ll all see that on Saturday night. He’s a very good fighter but I believe I’m a great fighter.”

MASOUD vs McGRAIL HEADLINES BLOCKBUSTER MONTE-CARLO SHOWDOWN VI CARD ON SATURDAY, DECEMBER 6 – LIVE ON DAZN

Shabaz Masoud meets Peter McGrail for the IBO World & Vacant EBU European Super Bantamweight Titles in the main event on Saturday, December 6 as part of an incredible line-up at Monaco’s exquisite Salle Des Étoiles – in partnership with Société des Bains de Mer and Casino de Monte-Carlo, live worldwide on the Global Home of Boxing, DAZN

The pair were due to meet earlier this year but can now look forward to a pre-Christmas cracker in one of the world’s most premier destinations.

Masoud last fought in November last year when he memorably won the IBO crown by defeating Liam Davies in a hard fought split decision win. And his collision course with McGrail was confirmed back in June when the Merseyside fighter defeated Ionut Baluta with a majority decision triumph.

An excited Masoud, trained by Ben Davison, believes that fight fans are in for a real treat.

“I was gutted when the fight got postponed the first time around,”said Masoud.

“But for it to now be headlining in Monte-Carlo, one of the most luxurious destinations in the world. I’m excited, I think it’s going to be a fan-friendly fight and one that will leave a mark on the fans who attend and those who tune in.”

McGrail shares Masoud’s enthusiasm – but insists he will be leaving Monte-Carlo with all the belts.

“It’s time to shine baby,”said McGrail

“I have never been so excited for a fight since my debut. I’m No.1.”

In the co-main event, we look forward to arguably one of the best female fights in Boxing as Brazil’s unbeaten Olympic hero Beatriz Ferreira puts her IBF World Lightweight Championship on the line against the dangerous, fellow undefeated, ‘Golden Turk’ Elif Turhan.

Defending champion Ferreira – who last year defeated Licia Boudersa at Salle Des Étoiles – said: “I am excited to return to Monte Carlo again to defend my World title. My opponent is coming with a big reputation but the bigger the challenge the better I perform and I will show that in the ring on December 6. I only want the biggest challenges and I am ready to fight anyone out there to prove that I am the best in the world!”

Turhan, who knocked out France’s Rima Ayadi back in August, expects her fight with Ferreira to be an all-out war.

Turhan said:“She [Ferreira] has good boxing technique and is a good boxer. I’ve known her and followed her for a while. We’re both undefeated. We’re both warriors, and this will be a real war.”

Two of Britain’s elite Welterweights in Conah Walker and Tokyo 2020 Olympic silver medalist Pat McCormack, meanwhile, collide in what promises to be a classic in Monte-Carlo.

“I’m absolutely buzzing to be fighting in the Principality. It’s a massive stage and a massive fight. I cannot wait,”said Walker.

McCormack, who impressed last month with his WBA Welterweight Eliminator win in Sunderland over Miguel Parra, said: “My amateur career has taken me around the world and now I am excited to visit one of the few locations it hasn’t yet taken me.

“Me and Conah are two fighters with great momentum. Many thought he beat Lewis Crocker who is the current world champion, so I’m looking forward to using that to make a statement. And what better place to do it than Monte-Carlo and, of course, the home of boxing, DAZN.”

The hugely popular Heavyweight Johnny ’The Romford Bull’ Fisher is back in action too, fighting in the Principality for the first time – and under the guidance of new trainer, Tony Sims – when he faces Uganda’s knockout artist Herbert Matovu (9-1, 8 KOs).

Fisher said:“It’s time to get this show back on the road. Bosh!”

And the stacked undercard gets even better with Northern Ireland’s Sean McComb defending his IBF European Super Lightweight Championship against Monaco native Hugo Micallef

McComb said: “It’s an amazing opportunity to be boxing in Monte-Carlo on a Matchroom show, which is the biggest platform in Boxing. I’m very excited and hopefully I can bring over a huge amount of support with me to make a massive noise. I’m looking forward to putting on a massive, world-class performance.

Tickets go on General Sale this Friday. Official early bird ticket packages, for two people, are on-sale now, starting from £1,400. That includes a two-night stay at the 5-star Hotel Hermitage, Monte-Carlo (Friday 5th – Sunday 7th December, 2025), with guaranteed access to the Weigh-In, a meet and greet with promoter Eddie Hearn, a Fight Night poster exclusively signed by the Main Event fighters, and two reserved floor Fight Night tickets. Please note: flights and ground transportation are not included within this package and must be purchased separately.

Matchroom Sport Chairman Eddie Hearn said: “This really is the best card we have ever staged in the Principality. Monte-Carlo oozes with class and, over the years, we have matched it by delivering some truly memorable Fight Nights showcasing some of the biggest and best talent in the sport. Saturday, December 6, promises to match it once more with another unmissable evening. Get your tickets – and be ready to look sharp in your tuxedo too!”

DAZN VP Alfie Sharman added:“Monaco is always one of the highlights of our year and this card is a wonderful early festive treat for fight fans! Watching live and exclusive worldwide on DAZN.”

MASOUD AND MCGRAIL CLASH IN ALL-BRITISH SHOWDOWN FOR IBO SUPER-BANTAMWEIGHT TITLE – YAFAI MEETS RODRIGUEZ FOR INTERIM WBC FLYWEIGHT TITLE ON JUNE 21 IN BIRMINGHAM

British rivals Shabaz Masoud and Peter McGrail will clash for the IBO Super-Bantamweight Title at the top of a stacked card at BP Pulse LIVE in Birmingham on Saturday June 21 that also features undefeated Flyweight Galal Yafai taking on Francisco Rodriguez for the Interim WBC Flyweight World Title – live worldwide on DAZN.

Stoke-on-Trent’s Masoud (14-0, 4 KOs) claimed the IBO crown with an impressive decision win over Telford’s Liam Davies last time out in November – inflicting a first loss on the former British and European Champion following a heated build-up between the pair.

Liverpool’s McGrail (11-1, 6 KOs) outpointed Rhys Edwards over ten rounds in his last contest on the huge Oleksandr Usyk vs. Tyson Fury 2 card in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia – the 28-year-old southpaw’s third straight win since suffering a shock loss to Ja’Rico O’Quinn in 2023.

Birmingham’s Yafai (9-0, 7 KOs) looked sensational as he stopped former IBF Flyweight king Sunny Edwards in six punishing rounds at BP Pulse LIVE in November, and the Olympic Champion puts his WBC Interim Title on the line for the first time against Mexico’s Rodriguez (39-6-1, 27 KOs). A shot at Japan’s unified WBC and WBA Flyweight World Champion Kenshiro Tereji lays in store for the winner.

Wolverhampton’s Conah Walker (15-3-1, 6 KOs) makes the maiden defence of his British Welterweight Title against Middleton’s Mandatory Challenger Liam Taylor (28-2-1, 14 KOs), Olympian turned Cruiserweight prospect Pat Brown (1-0, 1 KO) looks to build on his action-packed professional debut in Altrincham last month, Birmingham Super-Featherweight Ibraheem Sulaimaan (7-0, 4 KOs) returns, heavy-handed Coventry Middleweight Aaron Bowen (5-0, 3 KOs) fights for the second time in 2025 and Walsall Flyweight Hamza Uddin (4-0, 1 KO) continues his rise.

“I’m excited and ready to defend my IBO World Title in Birmingham on June 21,” said Masoud. “I’ve been in the gym since the last victory over Liam Davies in November. This is a another big domestic fight against Peter McGrail that I know will bring the best out of me. I’m looking forward to showing everyone what I’m about again.”

“I can’t wait for this one,” said McGrail. “I respect Shabaz Masoud –  he’s a top fighter, but the best version of Peter McGrail beats any Super-Bantamweight in the world, and that’s what you’ll get June 21 in Birmingham.”

“I’m excited to be fighting back in my home city of Birmingham, I can’t wait to put on a show against a top fighter,” said Yafai. “I’m looking forward to getting through this one and fighting for the World Title.”

“I have been waiting for this opportunity for two years to fight for the WBC 112 pound belt,” said Rodriguez. “I have been World Champion at 105 pounds and 108 pounds. Galal Yafai has never been in the ring with a fighter like me, real Mexican style! Come June 21, the WBC belt is mine and will be going back to wear it belongs – Viva Mexico!”

“This is a brilliant domestic fight between two of the best Super-Bantamweights in the world,” said Matchroom Sport Chairman Eddie Hearn. “Shabaz Masoud looked sensational last time out against Liam Davies and the emerging star from Stoke is promising another memorable performance on June 21. Peter McGrail steps up for the biggest challenge of his professional career to date. It’s going to be an electric atmosphere.

“It’s a huge night of boxing at BP Pulse Live as Birmingham’s own Galal Yafai takes another step to World Title glory when he puts his WBC Interim Title on the line against Mexico’s Francisco Rodriguez. Fan favourite Conah Walker defends his British Title against Liam Taylor and all-action Cruiserweight Pat Brown features on a stacked undercard alongside plenty of local talent. Watch it live and exclusive on DAZN.”

“This has the makings of a brilliant fight,” said Alfie Sharman, VP DAZN. “Shabaz is off the back of a career high win and Peter has been tipped by those in the know for a very long time. Birmingham will be rocking! Watch it live and exclusive only on DAZN.”

Ticket details will be announced next week.

BACK TO BRUM FOR DAVIES V MASOUD

THE EAGERLY AWAITED super bantamweight showdown between Liam Davies and Shabaz Masoud, with the IBO world championship at stake, will now occur at the BP Pulse Arena (Formerly Resorts World Arena) in Birmingham on Saturday, November 2.

The fight was initially scheduled in July before illness ruled out the champion. Challenger, the undefeated Masoud (13-0, 4 KOs) did see action on the night and subsequently clashed with his rival afterwards as the pair set the scene for a classic confrontation.

Davies (16-0, 8) was last out in Birmingham when he seized his IBO title with a blistering second-round stoppage of Erik Robles Ayala. During his remarkable rise in the sport, Davies has previously become British, European, WBC International, and WBO International champion.

The Undercard and ticket information will be released shortly.

“This is a fight we have been waiting for, and I reckon it will be worth the wait,” said promoter Frank Warren on the Davies-Masoud headliner. “Liam and Shabaz will deliver a top-quality fight, and the rivalry and bad feelings between the pair are simmering. I don’t think they are on each other’s Christmas card list.

Our bumper Birmingham shows have all delivered so far, and I expect more of the same and a huge crowd on November 2.”

MAGNIFICENT SEVEN BACK TO BRUM ON 20 JULY

LIAM DAVIES WILL defend his IBO world super bantamweight title against Shabaz Masoud and Nathan Heaney will rematch Brad Pauls for the British middleweight title as part of another bumper Magnificent Seven production to be staged at the Resorts World Arena in Birmingham on Saturday, 20 July.

Tickets for the bumper Magnificent Seven show at Resorts World Arena on Saturday, 20 July are on sale now from: theticketfactory.com.

Featuring on what will be an action-packed night will be Queensberry new girl Chantelle Cameron, English heavyweight champion Sol Dacres up against David Adeleye, WBO European and English welterweight champion Owen Cooper taking on Ekow Essuman, British and Commonwealth bantamweight champion Ashley Lane defending against Liverpool firebrand Andrew Cain and a return to the ring for Commonwealth Silver light heavyweight champion Ezra Taylor.

Defending the IBO title he won in spectacular fashion against Erik Robles Ayala in March is Telford favourite Davies (17-0, 8), who enters into a domestic duel against unbeaten Stoke talent Masoud (12-0, 4), holder of the WBA Intercontinental title.

British champion Heaney (18-0-1, 6 KOs) will play it again against the Newquay Bomb Pauls (18-1-1, 10), with the pair having fought to a captivating draw at the same arena in March with over 2,000 fans from Stoke in attendance. Second time around success over Pauls would represent the next step of Heaney’s passion-fuelled mission to fulfil his middleweight dreams.

The vacant WBC Interim world super lightweight championship will be on the line for the Queensberry debut of former undisputed world champion Cameron (18-1, 8), who makes her return to the ring after being edged out in a majority decision in her rematch against Katie Taylor in Dublin in November of last year, having defeated the Irish legend in May.

Local heavyweight favourite Dacres (8-0, 2) will defend his English title for a second time against British title challenger David Adeleye (12-1, 11), the former WBO European champion, who was unsuccessful in his championship challenge against Fabio Wardley over in Riyadh in October of last year.

It promises to be a fascinating heavyweight collision where both fighters will be bidding to nudge themselves towards the leading pack of the division.

WBO European and English welterweight champion Cooper (10-0, 4) from Worcester, fresh off a breakthrough stoppage of previously undefeated young rival Eithan James in March, takes on the challenge of the hugely experienced former British and Commonwealth champion Ekow Essuman (19-1, 7), who made four successful defences of the Lonsdale belt he won by defeating Chris Jenkins in July 2021.

A brutal encounter will be anticipated at bantamweight when British and Commonwealth champion Lane (18-10-2, 3) from Bristol defends his titles against the Liverpool knockout specialist Cain (11-1, 10), who returned to the ring earlier this month after recovering from a severe fracture to his hand. Lane, 33, comes into the fight following two brutal stoppage victories over English champion Jordan Purkiss and former WBC International champion Chris Bourke.

Also featuring will be Nottingham’s hot light heavyweight champion prospect Taylor (8-0, 6) making a first defence of his title, plus three-time National champion Dan Kerrigan making his professional debut over four rounds at super lightweight.

“The depth and quality of this fight card in Birmingham is unrivalled in this country,” stated promoter Frank Warren. “The Magnificent Seven concept is proving hugely popular and getting stronger each time.

“The lucky fans who snap up the tickets for the Resorts World Arena on July 20 will be treated to seven seriously meaningful title fights with so much on the line for our Queensberry fighters.

“Nathan Heaney rightly jumps back in with Brad Pauls following their hugely entertaining encounter last time out, which was declared a draw, with Liam Davies defending his IBO world title in a cracking domestic scrap against the highly-skilled Shabaz Masoud.

“We’ve got three really tasty scraps to feast our eyes on with Sol Dacres and David Adeleye looking to make some serious noise at heavyweight and Owen Cooper vs Ekow Essuman has the makings of a welterweight barnstormer. Ashley Lane against Andrew Cain has, quite simply, got fight written all over it.

“We will also get the chance to welcome one of the most exciting female fighters in the business, Chantelle Cameron, to the Queensberry ranks, plus the charismatic light heavyweight star in the making Ezra Taylor taking his next step towards stardom.

“This is a fight night you really shouldn’t miss.”

MASOUD VS. SANMARTIN + UNDERCARD PRESS CONFERENCE QUOTES

Frank Smith, Matchroom Boxing CEO:

“Shabaz Masoud has obviously had a lot of time out of the ring but he’s coming back into a proper fight. It’s what we need. We want you to come back into a proper fight, especially in the position he’s in. He’s highly ranked with the WBA not far off challenging for a World Title. As a team everyone believes that’s where he deserves to be and where he should be. I don’t think he’s far off that. He’s got to come through Saturday night. This is the kind of fight he needs after the period of time he’s had out. It would be worthless going back into an eight-round warm up fight. He needs this kind of fight. He’s been in the gym as he said throughout. Obviously the delay was unfortunate but it’s good to get it back on so quickly.”

Shabaz Masoud:

“I believe everything happens for a reason. When God takes one thing he always gives something better. Now I’m topping the bill in Newcastle. I love fighting in Newcastle, I’ve fought here before so it’s time to go. I’ve got itchy knuckles but I’ve been in the gym for a year since my last fight. Anyone who knows me knows that I’m a true professional. I’m in the gym all the time. I feel like I’ve made a lot of improvements in the year since my last fight. It’s time to show them. I’m my own worst critic. I could have a top performance and still find something wrong with it. My team is like that as well. I’m just looking for perfection all of the time. I’m my own worst critic. Honestly I think he’s a good fighter, I feel like he’s a level above the fighters I’ve fought before but I think i can do a job on him. It’s time to go. I’m not Gary Cully. He’s a good fighter and I like him, but I’m Maverick Masoud. I just feel like I’m levels above. I’m just going to show everyone – especially Sanmartin. I feel like I’m better than him in every aspect.”

Jose Sanmartin:

“First and foremost I want to thank you once again for this opportunity. My plan is that I’m completely ready and I hope that Masoud is completely ready and recovered from his illness. We have a plan for this fight and I am completely ready to go.

“That won’t affect me in the slightest. I’m a very experienced guy and a very experienced fighter. All of the pressure will be on him on Saturday. I’m completely ready to take this victory and take this belt back to Colombia.

“We’ll wait and see what happens and how the fight develops, if the win can be via knockout then even better. We’re ready to give everything, we’re ready to get the decision if needs be and we’re going to win on Saturday, that’s the plan and I’m taking that title home. I’m sorry Masoud, you’re going to be losing on Saturday.”

Cameron Vuong:

“I really enjoyed my professional debut on the Wood vs. Warrington undercard. It was a great experience. It went exactly how I expected it to go. I put on a punch-perfect performance and I’m looking to do the same thing on Saturday night. I’m not sure my little press conference is going to live up to Mark Dickinson’s – that was very exciting. I’ve worked hard my whole life to get to this point so now that I am here I’m going to enjoy it – being under the lights, I love it. Put pressure on me because I feel like I perform under pressure. Having Nigel and Jamie behind me is the main thing, they keep us grounded and get us the right fights at the right time. I’m boxing a tough Colombian on Saturday – he’s got a winning record and he’s never been stopped so I’m looking to put on a big performance and get him out of there. Activity is key. I want to stay active. I feel like the more active I am and the bette the opponents get, the better Cameron Vuong you’ll see. I’m looking forward to getting out on Saturday and then fitting one more in before the end of the year in December.”

Calum French:

“You’re going to see a rejuvenated, refreshed and recharged Calum French. I want to start by thanking Eddie and Frank for keeping the show alive because a few years ago when Lewis Ritson was topping the bill, if he hadn’t of boxed the show would have been finished. Thanks for keeping the show on and giving us the opportunity to box. Massive respect for that. I had a bit of time out with an injury. I’ve done everything right during the rehab. I’ve given myself the best chance of jumping straight back in when the opportunity came and that’s exactly what I’ve done.

“I’d give myself a six out of ten so far in my professional career. I haven’t boxed as well as I can do. Obviously going from boxing at world level as an amateur when people are looking to take your head off, to dropping slightly down the levels to start your pro career just to learn the trade a little bit. I dropped to that level a bit in my first few fights but I’ve got a good game strong opponent on Saturday night. He comes to win and he’s got ambition. I believe you’ll see the best Calum French.”

Mark Dickinson:

“I’ll look him straight in the eyes and tell him, ‘you’re not on my level’. This is a young mans sport. You’re an old man. My dad is down there and he’s about the same age as you. When you’re five or six rounds deep and I’m walking you down and I’m giving you a beating you’ll feel like an old man. You will feel like an old man. Look at you, who are you trying to be? You look like Chris Eubank Jr off of Wish you stupid c***. Your best achievement is going to points and losing on points. The only person I’ve got to impress is me – and you’re getting done. This isn’t football, this is a f***ing fight. To be honest I think it’s a about levels rather than experience. I believe I’m levels above him. He’s going to say different. I’m glad he thinks different and I’m glad we’ve got a good fight. Saturday night we’ll find out. Get the win and I’ll have earned my shot at the English Title. That’s what it is all about. Once I have a belt i’ll get more opportunities to keep the ball rolling.”

Grant Dennis:

“You’re a young man and you don’t look as good as this old man, so it’s crazy isn’t it? Physically you’re not as good and mentally you’re not as good. The only person I know how to be like is me and I’m good at being that person. That is it. You can come with all of this young boy stuff, I know you want to impress all of these people, but you’ll get in there on Saturday night and you’ll see what professional boxing is about. Your little achievements in the amateurs and all things like that won’t mean anything. I used to score 50 odd goals a season when I was 18 too. I didn’t do it in the Premier League though. This is professional boxing. Age ain’t nothing! At the end of the day I put myself through the grind and that’s why I look like this bro. I don’t get the opportunities that these young boys have. You think that I came up getting fed opponents like these dudes do? Nah I’ve had to fight. I’ve had to fight for Southern Area Titles just on my seventh fight. Each fight as they come and that’s how I roll with it. I’ve still got a lot of hunger in me.”

Ewan Mackenzie:

“I’m looking forward to it mate, like you say it’s my first ten rounder. I’ve been doing it in the gym multiple times, I know it’s different under the lights but I’m fully confident I can keep the pace and it’s going to be an exciting fight.

“It’s a good job Sunny Edwards isn’t going to fight for you on Saturday I tell you that mate. I’ve got a good support coming up, plenty of the lads and lasses – so I’ll make sure I don’t let them down on Saturday night. It gives me that bit extra motivation in the ring. I know I’ll be able to dig deep in front of them.

“I think he’s going to slow down drastically, I’ll just put a pace on him from the start and we’ll see if he’s still talking that smack after round six. We’ll see.”

Ishmael Davies:

“Sunny Edwards has helped me massively outside of the ring. I learn a lot from Sunny Edwards. Everyone knows he’s like God on the mic. He knows how to talk. I’ve learnt a lot from him. He’s a World Champion and he’s one of my closest mates. He’s helped get me here, so yeah man I’m thankful for him. This has come at the right time. I’m confident. I heard Ewan Mackenzie is telling his people to put on a bet for a knockout and he wants 10%. You’ll be making them lose money. If you want to have a proper bet put your money where your mouth is and we’ll put our purses on it, me against you let’s do it! Do you want a deal? Let’s shake on it then! I bet you don’t reach the tenth round. Let’s do this. Less chat let’s do this. He’s going to sleep.”

Ben Rees:

“I won five National Titles, a GB Title, European Bronze Medal and a couple of tournament wins for England – gold medals. When Owen normally boxes I get way more nervous than when I box myself. I hate it, but I think when I’m in the changing room I won’t be able to see him fight so the nerves shouldn’t be so bad, but I’ll be thinking about him. I’ve been dying to get back in the ring – I’ve been training the full time so I’m more than ready. The last performance was a good performance, I stopped him in the first round but the opponent wasn’t up to much. This opponent for my next fight is a live opponent so I feel like I’m going to be able to showcase my skills more.”

Jimmy Sains:

“It was a great debut, everything that I could have asked for, like you said. A great turnout as well, everyone from Essex. To be honest I watched it back a few times, I didn’t think I actually boxed too great. I think Darren and Sunny were giving me a little bit of criticism on the comms, especially Sunny to be honest, but when I was looking at it he was definitely right 100%. I was trying to force the stoppage a little bit too much, loading up a little too much. But listen, that was my debut. I’ve got that out of the way and now all I want to do is focus on my performance and boxing. I’m glad I’m up here as well, out of the way a little bit – it’ll build my profile in Newcastle a little bit as well. I’m looking forward to Saturday night. Boxing comes first, but if the knockout is there I’m going to go for it.”

Owen Rees:

“I won a National Title and I got on the Great Britain squad. The 67kg weight class got taken out so obviously I thought there’s no better time to turn pro now. I would say I had a very good amateur career. I’m happy to be starting the action on Saturday night because I’ll be looking to put on a big performance and getting another big knockout just like my first fight. I’ll definitely be looking for the knockout. Anyone who watches the amateurs will know that I’ve got a very exciting style and I’ll definitely be showing that on Saturday night.”

SHABAZ MASOUD INKS PROMOTIONAL PACT WITH MATCHROOM BOXING

Undefeated Super-Bantamweight slickster Shabaz Masoud has signed a multi-fight promotional deal with Eddie Hearn’s Matchroom Boxing.

One of the brightest talents in Britain, Shabaz has won all eleven on his professional contests since turning over at the Bolton Whites Hotel with a third round TKO win over Stefan Sashev back in May 2018.

The 27-year-old from Stoke is trained and managed by Ben Davison out of the Ben Davison Performance Centre in Harlow, Essex alongside two-time Featherweight World Champion Leigh Wood and rising Super-Welterweight star Pat McCormack.

‘Maverick’ (11-0, 4 KOs) picked up the WBA Intercontinental Title last time out in November by stopping fellow unbeaten rival Jack Bateson in the twelfth and final round of their clash at the Utilita Arena Sheffield.

Masoud, a former Sports Development student at Staffordshire University, hopes to follow in the footsteps of Prince Naseem Hamed and Amir Khan as a new wave of British-Asian fighters rise to the top of the sport.

“Alhamdulillah this is a huge step in the right direction for my career,” said Masoud. “Inshallah I’m a future World Champion and Matchroom have put together the path to make that happen. I want to thank Ben, Eddie and Frank for this opportunity. I’ve worked my whole life to seize it with both hands and that’s what I will be doing!

“To get the deal over the line there was a lot of back and forth. I wanted to be at the right place and I feel like this is the right time as well. I just can’t wait for a fight date now. I want to show the world what I’m about. It’s time to shine now.

“Training down at the Ben Davison Performance Centre, a lot of the guys there are signed with Matchroom. We all bounce off each other, we learn from each other and I feel like you’ve got to surround yourself with winners. We’re all coming to do big things. We want to be the best gym in Britain.

“When fans tune in to watch me live on DAZN all around the world they should expect slickness, beautiful boxing, power and speed. You’re going to get a bit of everything. I want to bring those big nights up to Stoke. Don’t blink.”

“I’m incredibly excited about signing one of the brightest Super-Bantamweight contenders in Britain.” said Matchroom Sport Chairman Eddie Hearn. “He is a special talent with a big future in the sport. Ben Davison is very confident that Shabaz has what it takes to become a multi-weight World Champion. He showed what he’s capable of in his last fight, impressively stopping the undefeated Jack Bateson in the final round to pick up his first pro title. There’s plenty more to come from Shabaz and I can’t wait to get this journey started.”

“I’m excited for this partnership,” said Ben Davison. “Shabaz is a special talent with remarkable potential, he has a great blend of style with plenty of substance. Say hello to Matchroom and DAZN’s soon to be World Champion. Shabaz will underachieve if he doesn’t become a World Champion, if not a multi-weight World Champion.

“Shabaz is a very good student and he’s great to worth with. He’s a dedicated lad, travels a long way down here to the gym in Essex to work. He has the type of style that you don’t regularly see from the UK. He’s aggressive at times, he’s versatile, he’s slick, flamboyant and he has a little habit of showboating here and there which we’re not too keen on! There’s a lot he can offer.”

WINNER OF BATESON VS MASOUD TO BE HONOURED WITH ALI TAZEEM TROPHY

LONDON, OCTOBER 21 – The memory of the outstanding British boxing prospect Ali Tazeem will live on in a new award that carries his name.

Tazeem, 18, was about to begin an exciting journey as a professional fighter when, in April, he tragically lost his life in a road accident.

The hugely popular teenager from Wolverhampton had already been dubbed the ‘New Amir Khan’ and was set to take the pro ranks by storm before his untimely passing, which left his family and friends devastated and the boxing community shaken.

But Probellum, who had signed Tazeem on a promotional contract just weeks earlier, can today announce the creation of the Ali Tazeem Trophy, an annual award that will be presented to the winner of a carefully chosen domestic fight between two young fighters that embody the skills, dedication and values of Tazeem.

The trophy will be presented for the first time to the winner of one of British boxing’s most highly anticipated fights when super bantamweight stars Jack Bateson and Shabaz Masoud, who both knew Ali, clash at Probellum Sheffield, on November 11, in a British title eliminator.

Sam Jones, Head of Talent Relations at Probellum, said: “There is not a day that goes by when I do not think of Ali.  He was a brilliantly talented and wonderful young man, with his whole life, both inside and outside of ring, ahead of him.

“Ali has an amazing family and Probellum wanted to make sure this special fighter is always at the forefront of our minds, and so we have created the Ali Tazeem Trophy.

“Even as an amateur, Ali represented excellence, excitement, skills and so much potential; he was one of this country’s most outstanding prospects, and we want this Trophy to be awarded to rising UK stars who do something extra special.

“The winner of Jack vs Shabaz on November 11 will do just that.  They are two of the country’s best young fighters, they are putting it all on the line and this will be a breakout night for one of them. I can’t think of a better fight, anywhere in the UK, for the inaugural Ali Tazeem Trophy to be presented.”

Toheed Tazeem, Ali’s father, said: “I’m lost for words, this means the world to me and my family.  Thank-you to Sam, and Probellum, for keeping my son’s legacy alive.”

BRITISH STAR SHABAZ MASOUD HAS NEXT FIGHT CONFIRMED FOR DUBAI

LONDON, FEBRUARY 17 – Super slick British prospect Shabaz Masoud will face French opposition when he makes his Probellum debut next month.

The masterful Masoud will look to extend his unblemished record to 10-0 when he takes on the seasoned Yoann Boyeux (43-6) over 10 rounds as part of Probellum Evolution in Dubai on Saturday, March 19.

Masoud – nicknamed ‘Maverick’ – is rated as one of Britain’s hottest talents and the 25-year-old super-bantamweight is set on making a statement against a fighter who clashed with a pound-for-pound star only a few years ago.

The Stoke-on-Trent born switch-hitter signed with Probellum, a global promotion and media company, earlier this month and is ready to show a worldwide audience that the hype around him is real.

“I can’t wait to make my debut for Probellum in Dubai next month,” buzzed the unbeaten Shabaz Masoud.

“My opponent boxed Naoya Inoue back in 2017 and was stopped in three rounds.  I’d love to do it quicker than Inoue but, either way, I am definitely going to put on a dazzling display of my skills in Dubai.

Masoud, who is trained by one of Britain’s most in-demand coaches Ben Davison, has not put a foot wrong since turning professional in 2018 and knows another stand-out display next month will soon have Probellum lining up title shots for him.

“Shabaz is one of the most scintillating prospects, not only in British boxing, but world boxing,” said Richard Schaefer, President of Probellum.

“We are delighted to be able to confirm his first fight with us and we know Shabaz is going to put on a show for those at ringside in Dubai and for everyone at home.

“He’s in with a very experienced guy but Shabaz has made light work of every opponent he’s faced so far – and we expect this to be no different.”

Probellum Evolution is a double-header being staged in Dubai next month, with back-to-back shows headlined by world title fights.

On Friday, March 18, Estelle Mossely makes history when she defends her IBO lightweight crown against Yanina del Carmen Lescano – in the first ever female world title fight staged in the Middle East.

And the following night Sunny Edwards puts his IBF flyweight belt on the line against Muhammad Waseem, with Masoud’s fight part of an exciting undercard.

MAVERICK READY FOR SOME MIDLANDS MAYHEM

SHABAZ MASOUD IS looking to illuminate Arena, Birmingham when he makes his second appearance under the Frank Warren promotional banner on November 30.

It would be fair to say the flamboyant 23-year-old lit up the FD Arena in Leeds earlier this month when he moved to 6-0 with a comprehensive points victory over the tough Nicaraguan Yesner Talavera.

The fight was a feast of snappy hand speed and flashy footwork as the young man from Stoke, known as ‘The Maverick’ introduced himself to BT Sport viewers in his first televised action.

Commentators and fans liked what they saw and, given his showman-like style, comparisons were naturally made with a certain Mr Naseem Hamed, who just happens to be Masoud’s boxing hero.

It would not be over-egging the pugilistic pudding to say that Masoud was more than satisfied with his night’s work.

“You know what, it was a buzz,” reflected the super bantamweight. “I enjoyed every minute and I was buzzing with the performance as well.

“All I wanted was the exposure and I got that as well as shining under the big lights,” he continued, adding that the experience was over and above what he hoped for and anticipated.

“It was even better! I have always visualised things from a young age and it was picture perfect for me.

“It was just walking to the venue, seeing everything, seeing everyone and the big lights. When I saw Mr Frank Warren sitting down to watch me I thought ‘Yo, I’m going to perform tonight’.

“I wanted to put a little show on for everyone so I did my job.

“Everything is about fun for me. When I get in there, as long as I am having fun I will do a good job. There was a little bit of nerves, not like I am scared, but the type of nerves I get are just over whether I will perform to my full potential – and I did.”

It was a case of great expectations going into the Leeds fight because the prospect of seeing Masoud in the flesh had been given the big build-up by those around him who had witnessed a sneak preview. In the days before fight night there was even something of a mini online campaign pressing for the new boy to be awarded a television slot.

So the young prospect had a lot to lose and much to live up to.

“As you know, diamonds are formed under pressure and the more pressure there is going to be in fights eventually the more I am going to shine,” he explained. “That is how I look at it.

“I’d give myself a strong seven out of 10. I could have gone through the gears more and taken him out, but he was a lot heavier and I think if he was my weight I would have stopped him.

“The thing is, I don’t want to force it and just want to box. As long as I am boxing in there the stoppage will come if it comes. I would enjoy beating someone up for 12 rounds!”

He is, however, aware that the occasional show-stopping finish thrown in for good measure always goes down well with a wider audience.

“It is true, but if I was landing my shots on an actual super bantam he wouldn’t be standing there. Plus when I get into later rounds I feel I get stronger and stronger. When I get up to 12 rounds that is when I will get more and more stoppages.

“Over time I will put a bit more muscle on and I am still growing and still a baby in boxing terms. I’ll keep doing what I’m doing.”

Onwards and upwards to Arena, Birmingham and Masoud predicts something of a Stoke takeover on the night of his seventh professional fight.

“I was buzzing when I found out I was on again and it is Birmingham as well! It is only like half an hour from my house and me and my friends and family actually live in Birmingham too some of the time.

“The tickets are gonna go mad.

“We are going to have a huge Maverick Army and probably the biggest turn-out you will see.”

Shabaz Masoud features on a stacked night of title action at Arena, Birmingham on November 30. WBO world bantamweight champion Zolani Tete defends his title against mandatory challenger John Riel Casimero, British super featherweight champion Sam Bowen defends his belt against Anthony Cacace and British and Commonwealth welterweight champion Chris Jenkins makes a defence against Liam Taylor. Lerrone Richards also takes on Lennox Clarke for the Commonwealth and vacant British super middleweight belt.

Sam Maxwell defends his WBO European super lightweight title against the also unbeaten Connor Parker from Derbyshire, while Hamzah Sheeraz will fight for his first major title at super welterweight.

Thrilling prospects Dennis McCann, Shabaz Masoud, Eithan James and George Davey also feature on the bill, along with talents from the local region in Nathan Heaney and River Wilson-Bent.

‘THE MAVERICK’ SHABAZ MASOUD INKS WITH QUEENSBERRY PROMOTION

FRANK WARREN has added to his ranks with the signing of 5-0 super bantamweight Shabaz Masoud to fight under the Queensberry Promotions banner.

Masoud, from Stoke-on-Trent, made his professional debut in May 2018 with a stoppage victory and has since notched up a further four points wins, with three coming over four rounds and one six-rounder in his last fight over Brayan Mairena at Villa Park in Birmingham.

Aside from shining in his learning fights, the 23-year-old is capturing the attention of both opponents and onlookers during sparring encounters up and down the country, with many tipping him for stardom, which is something ‘The Maverick’ believes is his destiny.

“You know what, I’m just buzzing to be signed by Frank because I know he is the world’s best promoter right now, I personally believe,” reacted Masoud to the career development. “The way he builds fighters, I know he will build me into a big champion.

“There are so many he has guided to the top, especially my favourite fighters. For example, Joe Calzaghe, I know he had a lot to do with Joe, and my favourite fighter of all time was Prince Naseem Hamed.

“Prince wouldn’t have been where he was if it wasn’t for Frank. I’ve been to the office and I’ve seen the statue of him. I asked if he was actually that tall and they said he was!,”  he added, before reflecting on the recent growth of his own profile.

“Day by day it is just getting better and better. Every day I spar with top lads and today I’ve been sparring with Sam Bowen and Brad Daws, who are bigger than me because I am only a super bantam.

“But if you work to the right game plan and make people miss, it is frustrating for them.

“Any super bantam in the country can get it from me. I call myself Maverick because I am different and I don’t think I’ve got one style. I mix it up and whatever needs to be done for the win gets done. No one has seen me scrap yet and I know there will be times in fights where I’ll have to – and I have got it in me.

“I break people down and, people might question my power, but if I didn’t have it then I would be walked down. People tuck up in their shell and I want someone to come at me. When they do it will be lights out.

“The whole point of being with Frank is I know he will get me the best exposure possible. All I need is a bit of exposure and I will go from strength to strength.”

Hall of Fame promoter Frank Warren sees the potential in his new signing.

“You know you are onto something with a young fighter when so many people tell you to take a look. Shabaz possesses enormous talent and is an entertainer who people will enjoy following the progress of.

“We already have so many fine young fighters on our books who are making great strides in the game and I fully expect Shabaz to follow suit. I am very much looking forward to working with him and helping him to realise his ambitions in the sport.

“It will certainly be an exciting journey.”
