Adamek-Molina PPV press conference quotes

Tomasz Adamek
KRAKOW, Poland (March 31, 2016) — The final press conference for this Saturday’s “The Final Call” pay-per-view event, starting at 2:00 p.m. ET / 11:00 a.m. PT, was held today. Below are fighters’ quotes.

Integrated Sports Media will distribute the card in North America for live viewing on cable, satellite and Internet pay-per-view via iN Demand, DIRECTV, DISH Network, and Vubiquity in the United States, as well as Rogers TV, Bell TV, Shaw PPV and SaskTel in Canada, for a suggested retail price of only $29.95. In addition, the fight is available in North America for purchase on-line at www.GFL.tv and www.Eversport.TV (Polish commentary only), and via the FITE.TV app (or go to http://www.fite.tv/v/adamekvsmolina for more information) for both Android and iOS.

Four are scheduled to air live on PPV from Tauron Arena in Krakow, Poland. Two other fights may be shown, time permitting.

“The Final Call” is promoted in Poland by Polsat, as part of the Polsat Boxing Night series, in addition to Main Events and Don King Productions.

TOMASZ “Goral” ADAMEK: “I’ve had a great camp, great sparring partners and a great team around me. Kuba (Chycki – Adamek’s physical coach), trainer Roger Bloodworth – these guys did a great job in the last two months. As Eric said, ‘We are not about talking what we will do, we are ready to actually do it.’ Molina likes to mix it up, likes to throw punches, and is not afraid. This has to be a great fight just because of that. There’s no what’s after the Molina fight for me. This is the fight which will decide my future. A win means I’m on track for big fights, losing means I cannot do it anymore. What I know is that for this fight I’m much better prepared than I was for both the Glazkov and Szpilka bouts. But, of course, what happens in ring will verify our words.”

ERIC “Drummer Boy” MOLINA: “For the first time in my career I got 70 days to prepare; unprecedented in the heavyweight division. What do I know about Adamek? He’s a warrior and people in Poland expect great things from him because he’s a Polish boxing legend. In me, he will have a chance to fight one of the best heavyweights in the division and we all will know where we stand. I’m very confident, not only that I will win this war on Saturday, but also of being the first Mexican-American heavyweight in the future. People will get their money worth on Saturday. I can guarantee that. Adamek is highly rated by WBC and IBF, the two most active organizations in boxing. Saturday’s winner will be in the driver’s seat for great fights in the future.”

MICHAL CIESLAK: “I also thought that you’re bigger. And I also hope that everything what you’re saying about how good your training camp was is the truth. I can promise you that I will be ready for everything. I’m in the best shape of my life and I will prove that on Saturday. Palacios, be ready to fight! I cannot wait anymore to put on a big show.”

FRANCISCO “The Wizard” PALACIOS: “He wants to treat me like a stepping stone but the problem with that is I’m not a stepping stone for anyone. I’m a rock! You want to beat me, you have to kill me. And by the way, I thought that Cie?lak is bigger. You cannot judge what I can or cannot do just because I’ve got knocked out by Kudryashov in my last fight. It means nothing. First of all, it happens in boxing and the more importantly, it has nothing to do with what I’m ready to do now with my new team and “Chill” Wilson on my side. Just watch: The Wizard Time is coming again.”

Main Event — Vacant IBF Inter-Continental Heavyweight Championship (12)
TOMASZ “Goral” ADAMEK (50-4, 30 KOs), Former 2-Division World Champion, Jersey City, NJ, USA

Eric Molina hopes to keep his dream alive in Apr. 2nd pay-per-view heavyweight showdown vs. 2-division world champion Tomasz Adamek in Poland

KRAKOW, Poland (March 27, 2016) – Texas heavyweight Eric “Drummer Boy” Molina has a unique opportunity April 2 to get back in position to challenge for the world title, as well as keep his dream alive of becoming the first Mexican-American world heavyweight champion.

The 6′ 4″, 240-pound Molina faces two-division world champion Tomasz “Goral” Adamek in their 12-round pay-per-view showdown for the vacant International Boxing Federation (IBF) Inter-Continental heavyweight title, airing live (2:00 p.m. ET start) in North America from Tauron Arena in Krakow, Poland.

Upset-minded Molina (24-3, 18 KOs), who lost his only world title shot last June to undefeated World Boxing Council (WBC) champion Deontay Wilder, has traveled to Poland on a mission to knock off Poland’s heavy favorite Adamek (50-4, 30 KOs).

Integrated Sports Media will distribute the card in North America residents on pay-per-view for live viewing at 2 p.m. ET / 11 a.m. PT on cable, satellite and Internet pay-per-view via iN Demand, DIRECTV, DISH Network, and Vubiquity in the United States, as well as Rogers TV, Bell TV, Shaw PPV and SaskTel in Canada, for a suggested retail price of only $29.95. Please contact your local cable or satellite provider for more information. In addition, the fight is available in North America for purchase on-line at www.GFL.tv and www.eversport.tv (Polish commentary only), plus via the FITE.TV app for both Android and iOS. This event is presented in Poland by Polsat, as part of the Polsat Boxing Night series, as well as Main Events and Don King Productions.

“I’m at the point in my career where my back is against the wall,” the 34-year-old Molina said. “All I’ve ever known to do is bounce back and April 2nd I intend to do just that. My dream of becoming the first Mexican-American heavyweight champion continues April 2nd in Poland.”

Molina wobbled Wilder in the third round of a losing match via a left hook, followed by a right cross. During his eight-year professional career, Molina has defeated Tony Grano for the North American Boxing Federation (NABF) championship, Warren Browning for the vacant WBC USNBC title, and Gabriel Holguin for the vacant WBC Latino crown.

The Apr. 2nd pay-per-view telecast will also include three potentially explosive 10-round bouts including the co-feature event between undefeated Polish cruiserweight prospect Michael Cieslak (11-0, 7 KOs) and two-time world title challenger Francisco “The Wizard” Palacios (23-3, 14 KOs), fighting out of Bayamon, Puerto Rico.

Former world title challenger Andrzej Wawrzyk (31-1, 17 KOs) and Marcin Rekowski (17-2, 14 KOs) battle for Polish heavyweight bragging rights. Another world-class cruiserweight fight matches former European titlist Mateusz “Master” Masternak (36-4, 26 KOs) and Oklahoma underdog Eric “Danger” Fields (24-3, 16 KOs).

Two other fights may be shown, time permitting, as two-time European champion Rafal “Braveheart” Jackiewicz (48-14-2, 22 KOs) squares off against fellow Pole, welterweight Michal Syrowatka (13-1, 4 KOs), in a 10-round rematch. European female lightweight champion Ewa Brodnicka (10-0, 2 KOs), of Poland, defends her title against Italian champion Anota Torti (9-5, 3 KOs).

Solid undercard announced for Apr. 2nd Adamek vs. Molina PPV live from Poland

KRAKOW, Poland (March 23, 2016) – A solid, entertaining undercard has been announced for “The Final Call,” featuring two-division world champion Tomasz “Goral” Adamek against former world title challenger Eric “Drummer Boy” Molina, airing live April 2 on pay-per-view in North America from Tauron Arena in Krakow, Poland.

Adamek (50-4, 30 KOs), fighting out of Jersey City, NJ, and dangerous Texan foe Molina (24-3, 18 KOs) will battle in the 12-round main event for the vacant International Boxing Federation (IBF) Inter-Continental heavyweight title.

This event is presented in Poland by Polsat, as part of the Polsat Boxing Night series, as well as Main Events and Don King Productions.

“Not only will passionate Polish fight enthusiasts in North America have an opportunity to watch some of Poland’s top fighters, including arguably its all-time best in Adamek, but American and Canadian boxing fans, in general, will be able to watch a full card featuring competitive, highly entertaining fights,” Integrated Sports Media president Doug Jacobs said. “We’re excited to be able to bring this tremendous card to North America and believe viewers will enjoy an afternoon of memorable boxing action.”

The Apr. 2nd pay-per-view telecast will also include three 10-round bouts showcasing three other world title challengers. The co-feature event matches undefeated Polish cruiserweight prospect Michael Cieslak (11-0, 7 KOs) against two-time world title challenger Francisco “The Wizard” Palacios (23-3, 14 KOs). Palacios, who fights out of Bayamon, Puerto Rico, went the complete distance twice in his pair of world title fights with WBC cruiserweight champion Krzysztof Wlodarczyk.

A pair of Polish heavyweights square off in a scheduled 10-round match as Andrzej Wawrzyk (31-1, 17 KOs), whose lone loss as a professional was to world champion Alexander Povetkin in a 2013 world title fight, meets former Polish champion Marcin Rekowski (17-2, 14 KOs).

An additional world-class cruiserweight bout is on tap as former European titlist Mateusz “Master” Masternak (36-4, 26 KOs) takes on Oklahoma’s upset-minded Eric “Danger” Fields (24-3, 16 KOs). Masternak, another world contender from Poland, is ranked among the top 20 by all four major sanctioning bodies (WBA #10, IBF #14, WBO #15 and WBC #18). A former WBC Youth champion, Masternak captured the European cruiserweight title in 2012, and WBC International Silver championship a year later. In 2014, Masternak lost a 12-round split decision in an Interim WBA cruiserweight title fight, but last year he stopped Carlos Ailton Nascimento to capture the vacant WBA Inter-Continental crown.

Fields is a battle-tested veteran having defeated world champion Kelvin Davis and fought top contenders such as Ola Afolabi, Yunier Dorticos and Ilunga Makabu.

Two other fights may be shown, time permitting. Two-time European champion Rafal “Braveheart” Jackiewicz (48-14-2, 22 KOs) faces Polish welterweight Michal Syrowatka (13-1, 4 KOs) in a 10-round rematch of their fight last December in which Jackiewicz, another Polish world title challenger, won by way of a fourth-round technical knockout. In a 10-round European female lightweight title fight, unbeaten defending champion Ewa Brodnicka (10-0, 2 KOs), of Poland, meets Italian champion Anota Torti (9-5, 3 KOs).

Tomasz Adamek in crossroads PPV fight April 2 live from Poland vs. Eric Molina

Tomasz Adamek
KRAKOW, Poland (March 17, 2016) – Arguably the greatest Polish fighter of all-time, two-division world champion Tomasz “Goral” Adamek, will be in a crossroads fight April 2 vs. former world title challenger Eric “Drummer Boy” Molina, airing on pay per view in North America, live from Tauron Arena in Krakow, Poland.

The 39-year-old Adamek (50-4, 30 KOs) should be inserted into the new heavyweight title mix with an impressive victory over Molina (24-3, 18 KOs), who gave World Boxing Council (WBC) champion Deontay Wilder a scare last June in the world title fight, in their International Boxing Federation (IBF) Inter-Continental heavyweight showdown. Adamek, however, could possibly hang up his gloves for good if upset-minded Molina ruins the expected Polish celebration.

“I don’t want to just win,” Adamek said. “Along with my trainer, Roger Bloodworth, we want my fans to see a fighter who is in the ring to battle, not take a paycheck. My career is ending; no point of saving myself for the future. I will be in the ring to give people all I have. It’s a promise.”

North American residents will be able to purchase the fight for pay-per-view via iN Demand, DIRECTV, DISH Network, and Vubiquity in the United States, as well as Rogers TV, Bell TV and SaskTel in Canada, for a suggested retail price of only $29.95. Please contact your local cable or satellite provider for more information. In addition, the fight is available in North America for purchase on-line at www.Eversport.TV and via the FITE.TV app for both Android and iOS. This event is presented in Poland by Polsat, as part of the Polsat Boxing Night series, as well as Main Events and Don King Productions.

Adamek has been a fan favorite throughout the boxing world since turning pro in 1999, not only in Poland but in America as well, primarily in Chicago and New Jersey markets, because he’s never in a bad fight. Adamek always gives fans their money’s worth, whether he was fighting as a light heavyweight, cruiserweight or heavyweight.

“I understand that this fight is on pay per view,” Adamek said. “Boxing fans want and deserve a fight they can be excited about. Styles make fights and knowing the way Eric fights, we can be sure that no one will be disappointed.”

Known and admired for his aggressive style and solid chin – Adamek has been stopped only once in 54 pro fights by the great Vitali Klitschko – Adamek fully embodies Polish Power and his passionate fans firmly remain in his corner. Sporting a 6-2 (3 KOs) record in world title fights, Adamek captured his first world title in 2005, taking a 12-round decision from Paul Briggs (23-1) for the vacant WBC light heavyweight crown. Adamek successfully defended his WBC 175-pound division twice, versus Thomas Ulrich (28-1) and in a rematch with Briggs.

In 2008, Adamek won a 12-round decision against defending IBF cruiserweight champion Steve Cunningham (21-1), followed by back-to-back title defense victories against undefeated challenger Jonathon Banks (20-0) and Bobby Gunn (21-3-1), respectively, by 8th and 4th-round technical knockouts.

Adamek then decided to move up to fight as a heavyweight, originally stopping fellow Pole and four-time world heavyweight title challenger Andrew Golota (41-7-1) in the 5th round for the vacant IBF International championship. Adamek went on to defeat 2004 US Olympian Jason Estrada (16-2), world title challengers Chris Arreola (28-1) and Michael Grant (46-3), tough Vinny Maddalone (33-6) and 1992 Irish Olympian Kevin McBride (35-8-1). Adamek, who added the NABO title belt to his collection with his win over Arreola, earned his first world heavyweight title shot September 10, 2011 versus reigning WBC champion Klitschko (42-2), who finished the game Pole in the 11th round.

Adamek rebounded with wins over quality heavyweight opponents such as Nagy Aguilera (17-6), Eddie Chambers (36-2), Travis Walker (38-7-1), Cunningham (25-4) again and Dominick Guinn (34-9-1). Adamek’s last fight was Sept. 26, 2015, in which he forced Przemyslaw Saleta (44-7) to retire after five rounds.

The Apr. 2nd pay-per-view telecast will also include several key undercard bouts, including a 10-round cruiserweight fights between world top-10 ranked contender and former European titlist Mateusz “Master” Masternak (36-4, 26 KOs) vs. Eric “Danger” Fields (24-3, 16 KOs) and Michael Cieslak (11-0, 7 KOs) vs. former two-time world title challenger Francisco “The Wizard” Palacios (23-3, 14 KOs). Additional PPV bouts will soon be announced.

Training Camp Notes: Glazkov With Family Safe and Sound and a Healed Hand, Glazkov Focused on Wilson

Vyacheslav Glazkov
Ft. Lauderdale, FL: Ahead of his bout on the undercard of Hopkins-Kovalev on Nov. 8, Vyacheslav “Czar” Glazkov and his team reflected on his last outing. On Aug. 9,Glazkov defeated Derric Rossy via majority decision, but the fight was much closer than anyone predicted. At the moment Glazkov walked into the ring to face Rossy, he had not heard from his parents in war-torn Ukraine in over two weeks. Physically, his hand had been bothering him since his Mar. 15 battle with veteran Tomasz Adamek.

After the fight, Czar did not want to make excuses but said, “My hand was bothering me. It wasn’t broken, but it did not recover as well as I had hoped. It is not an excuse but it was still bothering me from my fight with Adamek.”

Since Aug. 9, Glazkov has had time to heal physically and emotionally. As the undefeated Ukrainian heavyweight prepares to face veteran heavyweight Darnell Wilson on Nov. 8 on the Hopkins-Kovalev undercard, the hand has greatly improved and the 30 year old knows his family is safe and sound. In fact, his father recently arrived in Ft. Lauderdale to visit Czar and his family at training camp. The elder Glazkov will also travel to Atlantic City, NJ for the fight to see his son take on Wilson.

According to Czar’s trainer, John David Jackson, the same trainer who works with WBO Light Heavyweight Champion and Main Events’ stable mate Sergey Kovalev, “The hand looks good. I can feel the difference when he throws it now. It is definitely a lot better for him at this stage of the camp.”

Jackson also said having Glazkov’s father at camp has helped with his concentration. “Knowing his family is OK has made it much easier for me because it relieves a lot of pressure from his mind,” explained Jackson. “Now that his dad is coming it will probably be good for him. He is in great spirits right now.”

Glazkov’s opponent, Darnell “Ding-A-Ling Man” Wilson, 40, from Miami, FL is coming off a stunning sixth round knockout over then-undefeated David Rodriquez at Resorts in Atlantic City on Dec. 14. Wilson’s KO of Rodriguez snapped a five-fight losing streak for Wilson, who has 45 career professional bouts.

Derik Santos, John David Jackson’s assistant trainer, was pleased that Glazkov came into camp already in shape, saying, “When he came back he was in pretty good shape. He said he had been swimming and running so he could let the hand relax. He was in great shape. He had already done eight rounds of sparring.”

“Czar’s jab is working well and he’s fighting a smaller opponent, so we will feel him out for the first few rounds,” explained Jackson. “We will focus on the body because he has a soft middle. We just have to watch out for him. It should be an interesting fight.”

According to Czar’s manager, Egis Klimas, “Training camp is going very well. We have good sparring with all different fighters. We have some guys that can move and some that can punch so Glazkov is prepared for this fight 100%. We are looking forward to seeing him in the ring on Nov. 8.”

“My hand is feeling much better,” added Glazkov. “I was able to rest it after the Rossy fight and now I am very excited to be on the big card in Atlantic City. John David Jackson and Derik Santos are helping me get ready for this fight.”

Main Events CEO Kathy Duva said, “Czar has been through so much this year. The fact that he got in the ring one month after just barely making it out of Ukraine and having to leave his parents behind is more telling of his character as a fighter and a man than what he did in the ring in August. I’m so happy to hear that things are better for him now because Darnell Wilson is a tough journeyman who scored a big upset in his last fight and is never an easy out.”

Glazkov Training Camp Notes

Ft. Lauderdale, FL: 2014 has brought many changes for Vyacheslav “Czar” Glazkov (17-0-1, 11 KOs). He defeated veteran Tomasz Adamek to claim the NABF North American Heavyweight Title and secure the #2 position in the IBF. After, he immigrated to the United States from war-torn Ukraine with his wife and daughter and moved to sunny Fort Lauderdale, FL. In Florida, he started training with world-renowned trainer John David Jackson. Jackson also trains fellow Main Events’ stable mate Sergey “Krusher” Kovalev. This Saturday boxing fans will finally get to find out how all of these changes have affected Glazkov’s game as he steps into the ring with Derric “El León” Rossy (29-8-0, 14 KOs) at Sands Resort Casino and live on NBCSN Fight Night.

Czar Glazkov – Interview with Asst. Trainer Derik Santos

Interview with Asst. Trainer Derik Santos

Glazkov, 29, is an Olympic Bronze medalist but, according to Jackson’s assistant trainer, Derik Santos, before training with Jackson, Glazkov’s game was very one-dimensional, “One of the things we saw from a lot of his past fights is he throws a lot of good ones. His jab is good but everything was in ones.” Jackson decided he wanted Glazkov to add more combinations. Santos added, “He is very fast. He’s agile. He rolls well. So we decided to work with combinations. That’s how you’re going to beat people. You are going to out-box them. You are going to beat them. You are going to outsmart them. You gotta stick that good jab out there.”

Jackson also pushed Glazkov more than his previous trainers and Santos believes Czar has stepped up in response to the challenge, “We have pushed him hard since he got here. He’s liked it. I am not sure that he was pushed that hard before. I am not sure that the technical aspect was broken down for him. One thing that John [David Jackson] does really well, he breaks things down and explains to the fighter why they are doing it.” The new approach as paid off according to Santos, who said, “In our first sparring session, in the beginning he was throwing ones and twos and threes, but then after he started getting the combinations we have been working on and his sparring partner called it short. We are working on him rising up with that right hand.”

Main Events’ CEO Kathy Duva added, “I’ve seen what John David Jackson accomplished with Sergey Kovalev. Knowing how good Glazkov was before he started working with John, I can’t wait to see what he looks like now. This is an important fight to see where Czar is in his training and development. Bigger things are on the horizon for him when he’s ready.”

Training Camp Notes: Derric Rossy “It is going to be a heck of a brawl!”

Brooklyn, NY: Heavyweight Vyacheslav “Czar” Glazkov (17-0-1, 11 KOs) may be coming off a major upset victory over veteran Tomasz “Goral” Adamek (49-3, 29 KOs) but his next opponent Derric “El León” Rossy (29-8, 14 KOs) believes he is going to be Czar’s biggest challenge to date. The two are slotted to face-off as the main event on the next installment of NBCSN Fight Night (a special triple header edition) live from Sands Casino Hotel in Bethlehem, PA on August 9. This will also be Rossy’s Fight Night debut.

The two heavyweights are both 6’3″ tall and Rossy wants to warn fans, “It is going to be a heck of a brawl!” Rossy, 34, has 37 professional fights on his resume while his younger opponent, Glazkov, 29, has less than half as many with 18. Rossy warned, “Everyone wants a knockout. It is going to be a great fight. You’ve got two hungry guys looking to go at it. My prediction is this is going to be an unbelievable fight.”

Rossy is coming off an upset majority decision victory over Joe Hanks on May 16th in Montreal, Quebec, Canada. That fight was his first with trainer Grant Seligson. The two are training for this upcoming fight at Gleason’s Gym in Brooklyn, NY. When asked about what it is like to train Rossy, Grant replied, “Training Derric is a pleasure. He listens to everything. He is very open-minded. We get along great. We are a great team.” El León declined to reveal his game plan for Czar but did have this prediction, “You are going to see a slugfest but you are also going to see some great boxing. It is going to have everything.”

Glazkov & Adamek

As part of his preparation for this fight Rossy and Seligson watched Czar’s fight against Adamek on March 15th. As a result Rossy had this analysis of his young opponent, “We’ve seen some film on him. The kid is a really sound fighter. We need to be at our best. There is no slacking on this. There are no easy fights but this kid can really fight. We are excited to meet the challenge. With the Adamek fight he really showed that he wasn’t just a prospect. He is very sound at what he does.” His manager, Sal Musumeci added, “Derric is a veteran. He has tremendous worldwide experience fighting many top and world-ranked fighters. Derric is a true warrior. I believe this fight will be Glazkov’s real test not Adamek. He’s in for the real test on August 9.”

This will be Czar’s third appearance at Sands Casino Hotel in Bethlehem, PA. Rossy is from Medford, NY and believes Czar will have the home crowd advantage at Sands but he said, “I hope my fans can get out to see the fight. The more support the better for me but I am not a stranger to being in the enemy territory. It doesn’t bother me.” Musumeci added, “When you get two heavyweights like this to step up and face each other, when most of the heavyweights out there are so selective and sit around and wait for an opportunity, this shows the heart of two world class heavyweights getting in the ring to put on a great show. The winner of this deserves a world title shot.”

Glazkov decisions former world champ Adamek

Adamek_Glazkov_Weigh In
BETHLEHEM, PA—Vyachslav Glazkov scored the biggest win of his career as he scored a 12 round unanimous decision over former two-division world champion Tomasz Adamek at the Sands Hotel Casino

From the opening bell there was a lot of contact with Glazkov establishing his power shots early that caused a massive swelling around the right eye of Adamek as early as round two and blood from nose the in the 4th.

In round seven, Glazkov ripped two hard rights that sandwiched a piston jab to the face of the former two-division champion. In round eight, Glazkov continued to land right hands with ease and landed a perfect right that buckled Adamek for the 1st time in the bout. In round nine, Glazkov continued to Adamek with hard rights and wobbled him again. Adamek fought well down the stretch and he landed some good combinations in round 12 that gave a glimmer of hope to his many rabid fans that were in attendance. But it was much too little and way too late as the early beating that Glazkov inflicted on Adamek was too much to make for as the scores read 117-110, 117-111 and 116-112.

Glazkov of Ukraine is now 17-0-1. Adamek is now 49-3.

“I would like to thank Main Events and Kathy Duva for giving me this opportunity and taking me to this road. I also want to thank Tomasz Adamek for taking this bout and giving me this opportunity. He was risking more than I did. Tomasz was not a guy who was backing up, he was coming forward. It was a very good bout.”

Main Events’ CEO Kathy Duva said, “This is a passing of the torch. Glazkov did everything he absolutely had to do to win this fight against a very tough and very accomplished opponent. Tonight he announced his arrival to everyone that he belongs among the top five heavyweights. Adamek is someone who has been a top ten heavyweight for the last six to ten years. I am really at a loss to say who amazed me more.”

Isaac Chilemba scored a 10 round unanimous decision over Denis Grachev in a Light Heavyweight bout.

Chilemba dominated the action and landed a lot of solid punches througout. Grachev was willing and even landed some punches but it was the more effective Chilemba who won basically every round to the tune of 100-90, 99-91 and 99-91.

Chilemba, 174.6 lbs of Johannesburg, SA is now 22-2-2. Grachev, 175.2 lbs of Russia is now 13-3-1.

Chilemba said, “I am feeling good, it was great. I knew he was going to be tough but I was pleased with the outcome.”

Kermit Cntron took another step into resurrecting his career with an exciting 10 round unanimous decision over Ronald Cruz in a Welterweight bout.

Cintron rocked Cruz in the 1st frame when he buckled him with a left hook that made Cruz monetarily lose his balance. In round two, they began to trade with Cintron landing to head while Cruz worked the body. Towards the end of the frame, Cruz atarted to work his way upstairs by landing a couple of head shots. In round three, Cruz was cut over the right from an accidental headbutt. When it looked like Cintron was in control of the fight in round five, Cruz landed a good left to the chin.

Cintron, 148 lbs of Reading, PA won all three cards by a 96-94 tally and is now 35-5-2. Cruz, 148 lbs of Bethlehem, PA is now 20-3.

With blood coming down over his left eye, Cruz started to show more pep in his step and landed a beautiful poverhand right in the 6th frame. Cintron started boxing well again in round seven as he landed solid combinations from the outside. Round eight was a war with Cintron landing a hard combination early but Cruz made a stand and going inside which thrilled the pro-Cruz crowd. It was an action filled final round withe some solid two-way action.

Karl Dargan remained perfect by scoring an 8 round unanimous decision over Chazz McDowell in a Lightweight bout.

Dargan started systematically boxed and landed pin point shots. In round three, McDowell started to bleed from his mouth. Dargan dominated the action as it was much of the same round after round. The crowd got a little frustrated as they believed that Dargan could have ended matters if he stepped on the gas.

Dargan, 135 1/2 lbs won by scores of 80-72 on all cards and is now 15-0. McDowell, 142 lbs of Hartford, CT is now 6-5-1.

In a battle of undefeated Jr. Welterweights, Jerome Rodriguez and Brandon Williams fought to a split draw in a six round bout.

Most at ringside believed it was Williams who had taken the fight due to his boxing and moving.

Scores were 59-55 Williams, 58-57 Rodriguez and 57-57.

Williams. 133 1/2 lbs is now 3-0-1. Rodriguez, 140 lbs of Allentown, PA is now 6-0-3.

Nathaniel Rivas remained undefeated Nathaniel Rivas stopped Terrell James in round three of a scheduled four round Welterweight bout.

Rivas and James had an action packed 1st round where they rocked each other throughout the frame. At the end of the round, Rivas landed an uppercut that severely buckled James and almost had him out on his feet. In round three, Rivas hurt James with several more right hands. Rivas landed a thudding right-left combination and the fight was stopped atl 2:37 of round three.

Rivas, 148 lbs of Berlin, NJ is now 3-0 with 1 knockout. James, 146 lbs of Philadelphia is 1-2-1.

3/15 NBCSN Fight Night Photos and Quotes From Final Presser

Tomasz Adamek
Bethlehem, PA: This afternoon at the Sands Casino Resort in Bethlehem, PA members of the media gathered for the press conference for this Saturday’s fight between Tomasz “Goral” Adamek and Vyacheslav “Czar” Glazkov on NBCSN Fight Night at 9:00 PM ET. Below are highlighted quotes and photos from the press conference.

Hall of Fame Matchmaker Russell Peltz: “No one in this room would bet the bank on any one of these fights that is why it is such a good card. You don’t always see competitive fights at this level and that is something that we have been trying to do on the NBC Sports Network Fight Night series ever since we began in January of 2012. And this card is as good if not better than any card we have previously done.”

Adamek & Glazkov

Main Events’ CEO Kathy Duva: “We are thrilled to be able to present a fight like this. Tomasz Adamek has been in everyone’s top five ever since he entered the heavyweight division. He has beaten everyone but one that he has faced as a heavyweight. The guys that are older than Tomasz have already lost to him, for the most part, and there would be no point in fighting them. Every young fighter wants to fight him. Glazkov is a tremendous fighter with an Olympic Bronze medal. He has the best defense of anyone in the heavyweight division. Every single time he just steps up and asks no questions. He is very reminiscent of Tomasz Adamek when I first met him. I am just going to root for the fight of the year because in that case everyone wins. They are both very powerful and determined gentlemen and we are all going to be entertained Saturday night.”

Tomasz Adamek: “I am very happy I come back to Sands Casino. We had a good camp. I’m healthy. I believe we make a good fight with Glazkov for fans and for everybody. My dream is to be heavyweight champion.”

Tomasz Adamek

Czar Glazkov: “I am very glad our bout is finally going to happen. I am ready for it 100% and I am ready to show good boxing.”

Czar Glazkov

Czar regarding sparring with Adamek: “It was long ago when we were in the ring (sparring). When we go in the ring this time it will be a war. I’ve had that experience before when I was fighting in the amateurs with my friends and my close team mates. It’s not news to me”

Roger Bloodworth, Tomasz’s trainer: “We expect Glazkov to be in great shape. We expect him to come and fight. This is going to be one of the most exciting fights and exciting cards in a long time. I am going to get here early so I can watch the preliminaries. Come Saturday night I think you are going to see a terrific fight. They both have respect for each other and they are both ready.”

Roger Bloodworth

Also present were Isaac “Golden Boy” Chilemba and Denis Grachev who will be competing in the ten round light heavyweight co-feature. Peltz had this to say about the ten round co-feature, “Chilemba-Grachev is a true crossroads fight. This is a fight neither man can afford to lose.”

Chilemba and Grachev
Photo credits to Main Events/Larry Levanti
Denis Grachev: “Night of the fight – I am ready for that. I am going to give a hard fight to Chilemba. He has no chance.”

Isaac Chilemba: “I had a very good camp. I am prepared I am ready. I know he [Grachev] is a good fighter – a strong fighter. He has been in the ring against some top fighters. Yes he lost to Rodriguez, but I am not taking him for granted. It is going to be a tough fight but I am well, mentally and physically prepared. I want to let everyone know you are going to see a great show.”

Peltz also introduced the ten round undercard fight for local bragging rights between Ronald Cruz and Kermit Cintron. He said, “This fight is sold out. You can’t buy a ticket no matter how much money you have. We probably could have sold another 1,000 tickets. We’ve got a little bit of everything on this show, something for everyone. In the history of my 45 years in this industry I don’t know of a bigger fight in the Lehigh Valley or in the history of Southeastern Pennsylvania, outside of Philadelphia, than the 10 round welterweight fight between Ronald Cruz from Bethlehem and the ex-world champion Kermit Cintron of Reading.”

Ronald Cruz: “It’s a wonderful opportunity for me to be here, an opportunity I am looking forward to. I don’t like to talk too much I let my hands do the talking in the ring. My hands are going to do alot of talkin’ on Saturday night!”

NBCSN Fight Night Only Place to Catch Adamek-Glazkov – Tickets Sold Out!

tomasz-adamek
Bethlehem, PA: With tickets sold out for the much-anticipated heavyweight battle between Tomasz “Goral” Adamek (49-2-0, 29 KOs) and Vyacheslav “Czar” Glazkov (16-0-1, 11 KOs) at Sands Casino Resort in Bethlehem, PA, the only place to catch the fight for the IBF North American Heavyweight Title and IBF #2 Eliminator is on NBCSN Fight Night at 9:00 PM ET/6:00 PM PT on March 15th. The fight, billed “The Crossroads”, is a must-win for both fighters, with each having something to prove.

Adamek, a top five heavyweight, is headed towards the twilight of a stellar career. He was a world champion as a light heavyweight and a cruiserweight but the title of world heavyweight champion has eluded him. The 37 year old has lost only twice in over fifty career fights; one of them at the hands of Vitali Klitschko in his first shot at the heavyweight crown, a tenth round TKO for the WBC World Heavyweight Championship. The winner of his fight with Glazkov will hold the IBF North American Heavyweight Title and will be rated #2 in the IBF heavyweight ratings. Adamek hopes to earn another chance at the world title by handing the young prospect his first defeat. Tomasz knows what’s at stake with this fight, “I want to win this fight and be #2. I want to be #1 and fight Wladimir Klitschko. I lose to his brother and this would be my chance for a rematch. I want to show that two years ago with his brother was my mistake. I want to be mandatory.”

Glazkov, 29, needs to prove he belongs among the elite in the heavyweight division. With this fight, the 2008 Olympic Bronze medalist will look to take on his first top-ranked opponent and keep his undefeated record intact. Despite Glazkov’s excellent amateur record, he knows Adamek has experience on his side and that age is sometimes just a number when he said, “In the heavyweight division anything under 40 is still considered to be of fighting age. That is why I am not going to discount his age or his experience.” He promises to be ready on March 15th, “I have prepared myself the most for this fight and we will see what happens after that.”

The crossroads showdown was originally scheduled for the special afternoon edition of Fight Night on NBC on November 16, 2013. When Adamek fell ill with the flu just days before the fight, Garrett “The Ultimate Warrior” Wilson stepped in at the last minute and put on a game performance against Glazkov, entertaining close to one million viewers. Czar defeated Wilson in ten rounds via unanimous decision. Scouting Report on Saturday Night’s Adamek-Glazkov Fight at Sands: Too Close to Call

Tomasz Adamek
Bethlehem, PA: On March 15th Tomasz “Goral” Adamek and Vyacheslav “Czar” Glazkov will finally meet in the ring live on NBCSN Fight Night from Sands Casino Resort Bethlehem. The fight was supposed to take place last November but Adamek had to postpone at the last minute when he came down with the flu. Now the match-up that everyone has been waiting for will happen in front of a packed house at Sands (less than forty tickets remain).

This “Crossroads” fight has everyone wondering whether experience or youth will prevail. According to Hall of Fame Matchmaker J Russell Peltz, “When you add all the positives and negatives about each guy, you realize that no one is betting the bank on either man and that’s why it’s a good matchup, an intriguing matchup. Will Adamek’s experience, mobility and will to win overcome Glazkov’s youth and strength?” Those positives and negatives are highlighted below in the Adamek-Glazkov Scouting Report:

Category
Tomasz “Goral Adamek
Vyacheslav “Czar” Glazkov
Age

Record
49-2-0, 29 KOs
16-0-1, 11 KOs

Strengths
Adamek is an experienced fighter. He has fought 339 rounds and he has an uncanny ability to find a way to win.

Glazkov has remained active. He has boxed 17 times since turning pro in 2009. Glazkov is in the prime of his career. He competed in the 2008 Olympics in Beijing and won a Bronze Medal.
Weaknesses
In the twilight of his career, Adamek has been less active. He boxed just once in 2013. He sometimes likes to brawl too much.
Glazkov has not fought many experienced opponents and he can be a slow starter.
Experience
Adamek has faced top-notch opponents: Vitali Klitschko, Chris Arreola, Chad Dawson and Steve Cunningham. He won world titles at cruiserweight and at light-heavyweight. In 51 fights, he has lost just twice, by unanimous decision to Dawson in 2007 and by TKO to Klitschko in 2011.
An extensive and impressive amateur career and his Olympic experience has prepared Glazkov to compete on the big stage but he is far less experienced as a pro. He defeated Garrett Wilson on two days’ notice when he was set to fight Adamek and was willing to fight anyone. Glazkov fought the cagey Malik Scott in his 15th pro fight.
Power
Adamek has been a heavyweight for four-and-a-half years. He has grown into his power, though it is average for a world-class heavyweight.
Glazkov does not have one-punch power, but can break someone down. His power also is average.
Speed
A smaller heavyweight, Adamek possesses more speed than some of the bigger men in the division. He is relatively quick for a heavyweight.
A natural heavyweight, Glazkov did not grow into the division like Adamek. He still is a smaller heavyweight so he, too, is relatively quick.
Endurance
Adamek has proven that his endurance is one of his biggest assets. He finished strong against Dawson and stronger than his opponents in most of his close fights. He lasted 10 rounds with Klitschko, who out-weighed him by 37 pounds. Adamek has gone 12 rounds nine times.
Glazkov has shown he can go 10 rounds, but has never has gone 12; this will be his first scheduled 12-rounder. Still untested, Glazkov finished strong in his 10-round draw with Malik Scott. He has gone 10 rounds three times.

Accuracy
Adamek throws a lot of punches, but his connect rate is less than scintillating. Adamek connected on 167 of the 705 punches (24%) he threw in his 10-round unanimous decision win over Dominick Guinn on Aug. 3, 2013.
Glazkov is more accurate with his punches and does not throw as many as Adamek, so his connect rate is higher. In his 10-round draw with Malik Scott on Feb. 23, 2013, he threw 463 punches and landed 127 of them (27%).
Agility
Adamek moves like a smaller man.
Glazkov also moves like a smaller man. He can also walk around the ring on his hands which takes tremendous balance and agility to do.
Defense
Defense is not in Adamek’s vocabulary; his offense is his best defense. He doesn’t move his head enough and he gets hit too much, though he often makes his opponent pay for it.
Defense is Glazkov’s best quality; it is tricky and solid. He deflects punches off of his gloves, elbows and arms. This was especially true against Malik Scott.
Chin
Adamek has been knocked down, but he gets back up and gets stronger. He has a world-class chin.
Glazkov has never been down. However, after only 17 pro fights his chin is still unproven.
Style
Adamek is a straight-forward, pressure fighter.
Glazkov is a slow starter, but picks it up. He is more defensive-minded than Adamek, but tends to get more aggressive as the fight goes on.
Intangibles
With years of professional experience as a world champion and as a world-class heavyweight, Adamek knows his craft and is comfortable in the ring. His will is as strong as his chin.
Glazkov has youth on his side. His Olympic bronze medal indicates that he is an elite heavyweight. He will not be intimidated.
Crowd Support
Adamek will bring his vocal legion of Polish supporters to Sands.
Though he is making inroads among Ukrainian-Americans, Czar hasn’t been around long enough to develop a large following in the US and his countrymen are likely distracted by the unrest in Ukraine.
The Match-Up
This is a 50/50 fight and these are the lingering questions:
Will Adamek’s age be a factor?
Will Glazkov’s be able to overcome his inexperience?
Has Adamek’s inactivity helped him to recover better from past wars in the ring or will he be burdened by ring rust?
Will Glazkov’s chin and will hold up to Adamek’s straight-forward punches?
Who learned more from their sparring sessions?

Heavyweight Steve “USS” Cunningham, who is scheduled to square off against Amir Mansour on the April 4th edition of Fight Night and has fought against Adamek twice in his career, also thinks this is a wild card fight, “This will be a good fight. It’s two Europeans fighting each other but Adamek has meshed his European style with an American style so it makes for an interesting match-up. I’m going with Adamek for experience on this one, but it would not surprise me if Glazkov really steps up.” One thing is for sure, this fight brings more questions than answers to the table but the wait will be over soon.

Mix of International Contenders and Local Prospects Highlights the Undercard on March 15th at Sands

Bethlehem, PA: The Tomasz Adamek-Vyacheslav Glazkov battle for the IBF North American Heavyweight title on March 15th at the Sands Casino Resorts Bethlehem, PA will have some competition for the most exciting fight of the event. The undercard is jam-packed with exciting match-ups that are sure to please the in-house audience at Sands.

Isaac “Golden Boy” Chilemba
The seven-fight card event will showcase Isaac “Golden Boy” Chilemba (21-2-2, 9 KO’s), of Johannesburg, South Africa, as he collides with Denis Grachev (13-2-1, 8 KO’s), a Russian living in San Diego, CA, in the ten round co-feature that will air as part of the NBCSN Fight Night broadcast beginning at 9 pm ET/6 pm PT. Chilemba (#2) and Grachev (#7) both are rated in the top ten of the hot light heavyweight division by the WBC.

Ronald Cruz
Another ten round match features welterweights Ronald Cruz (20-2, 15 KO’s), of Bethlehem, PA, against Kermit Cintron (34-5-2, 28 KO’s), of Reading, PA in a showdown for bragging rights across Southeastern Pennsylvania. The 27-year-old Cruz is the most popular fighter in the area and has knocked out his last three opponents-Rodolfo Armenta, of Rio Rico, AZ; Alberto Morales, of Miami, FL; Hector Munoz, of Albuquerque, NM.

Kermit Cintron
The 34-year-old Cintron turned pro in 2000 and won the vacant IBF world welterweight title in 2006 when he knocked out Mark Suarez, of Riverside, CA. After successful defenses against Walter Matthysse, of Santa Fe, Argentina, and Jesse Feliciano, of Las Vegas, NV, Cintron lost the title to Antonio Margarito, of Tijuana, Mexico, in 2008. In his last fight Aug. 2 in Miami, OK, Cintron earned a ten round decision over Jonathan Batista, of the Dominican Republic.

Karl “Dynamite” Dargan
Lightweight prospect Karl “Dynamite” Dargan (14-0, 7 KO’s), of Philadelphia, PA, takes on Chazz McDowell (6-4-1, 1 KO), of Yonkers, NY, in an eight-round contest. The 24-year-old Dargan is considered one of the best prospects in the country at 135 pounds. In his last fight on Nov. 16th in the co-feature spot on a special afternoon edition of Fight Night on NBC, he out-pointed lefty Michael Brooks, of Nassau, LI, over ten rounds. McDowell, also 24, is coming off a unanimous decision loss to Frank Santos De Alba in front of the crowd at Sands on January 25th and is looking to get himself back on track. Including Dargan, the combined record of McDowell’s last five opponents is 50-2-2.

More up-and-comers appear on the rest of the card: Jerome Rodriguez (6-0-2, 2 KOs), of Allentown, PA, vs. Brandon Williams (3-0), of Rochester, NY, six rounds, junior welterweights; Nathaniel Rivas (2-0), of Berlin, NJ, vs. Terrell James (1-1-1), of Philadelphia, four rounds, welterweights; Luis Acevedo (pro debut), of Bethlehem, PA vs. Josh Crespo (1-1-1, 1 K0), of Springfield, MA, four rounds, super bantamweights.

Co-promoter and Hall of Fame matchmaker J Russell Peltz feels this is a very diverse undercard; he said “There is something for everyone on this undercard. The winner of Chilemba-Grachev will join the pool of potential world-title challengers at 175 pounds. Cintron can resurrect his career by beating Cruz and Cruz, by winning, can move back into the world rankings at 147 pounds. Dargan, one of the best youngsters at 135, cannot afford to stumble against McDowell, who has never been stopped and shown the ability to hang in there with the best at 130 and 135 pounds.”

Main Events’ Matchmaker and VP of Operations Jolene Mizzone likes the competitive balance on this March 15th card; she said, “It is refreshing as a matchmaker to have a card with so many evenly matched pick ’em fights where anyone on the card has a chance to win.”

Adamek Gears Up to Face Young Challenger

tomasz-adamek
Bethlehem, PA: Last November veteran Tomasz “Goral” Adamek (49-2-0, 29 KOs) was scheduled to take on the up-and-coming Ukrainian 2008 Olympic bronze medalist Vyacheslav “Czar” Glazkov (16-0-1, 11 KOs) at Turning Stone Resort and Casino in Verona, NY when Adamek fell ill and had to pull out just days before the fight. Czar went on to face Garrett Wilson at Turning Stone and won via unanimous decision in ten rounds. Now on March 15, 2014 the much anticipated fight between the veteran Adamek and the young challenger, Adamek’s former sparring partner, Glazkov will finally take place at Sands Resort and Casino in Bethlehem, PA and will be aired on NBCSN Fight Night starting at 9:00 PM ET. The fight represents a crossroads for both fighters: Adamek, 37, is facing questions about whether or not he is entering the twilight of his career and the undefeated Glazkov, 29, is taking on his first real challenge in the heavyweight division. The fight will be Adamek’s second defense of his IBF North American heavyweight title and an eliminator for the #2 position in the IBF heavyweight ratings .

This is not the first time a seasoned veteran has taken on a young hot shot. There have been some classic veteran vs. newbie boxing battles where the veteran has prevailed: Roberto Duran vs. Davey Moore, Sergio Martinez vs. Julio Cesar Chavez, Jr., and Floyd Mayweather, Jr. vs. Saul Alvarez just to name a few. And Tomasz certainly has experience on his side, in over fifty professional career fights he has only lost twice in his career, a tenth round knockout loss to Vitali Klitschko on September 10, 2011 and a unanimous decision loss to Chad Dawson on February 3, 2007.

According to Main Events’ CEO Kathy Duva, “Everyone always seems to forget that Tomasz only has two career losses. He is a seasoned veteran and always seems to manage to find a way to win.” When Tomasz spoke about his professional experience when compared to Glazkov he said, “I am sure my experience is an advantage because I spent since 1999 in the ring professionally. But just because I have more experience doesn’t mean it is so big I don’t need nothing. I am training very hard. We have a big camp and I am going to ready 100%.”

Because of the cancellation of the November fight, Adamek has not fought since his August 3, 2013 unanimous decision win over Dominick Guinn at Mohegan Sun in Uncasville, CT – a seven and a half month layoff rivaling the seven and a half months between the August 3rd fight and Adamek’s split-decision victory over Steve Cunningham on December 22, 2012. So much time out of the ring is uncharacteristic of Adamek; however, his trainer, Roger Bloodworth, does not think the longer breaks are significant: “I don’t see a difference in Tomasz because of the time off. I think people make too much of having time off between fights, he is as focused as I have ever seen him.”

Adamek gained another advantage by watching Glazkov’s fight against his replacement Garrett Wilson. He said, “I watched the last fight, but the last opponent wasn’t Tomasz Adamek, he was a different fighter, you can’t compare that opponent to me. When Tomasz gets in the ring it’s a different fight. You will see on March 15. I am going to show my class.” Also as former sparring partners both men know a little more about each other’s style than they could learn simply by studying fight film. Tomasz added, “I sparred with Glazkov, but sparring is just sparring. Verification is always in the ring. You can spar with somebody for two years and when you go into the ring it can be a different story. Sparring is sparring, training is training, but the fight is the fight.”

“Goral” has a large Polish following both here and overseas and, despite the fact that he considers New Jersey his adopted home, he should still have the hometown advantage just over the river at Sands. Tickets are nearly sold out so expect a packed house to watch this long-awaited showdown.

After Yesterday’s Closing Ceremonies 2008 Olympic Bronze Medalist Vyacheslav “Czar” Glazkov Reflects On His Own Olympic Experience in Beijing

Heavyweight Vyacheslav “Czar” Glazkov competed at the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing, China and despite an injury that prevented him from competing in the finals he won the Bronze medal.

Currently in training camp for his March 15th battle on NBCSN Fight Night against Tomasz Adamek, Czar watched last night’s closing ceremonies in Sochi (which is not far from his native Ukraine). He reminisced about his own Olympic experiences in 2008.

Q: How did it feel to proudly represent your country at the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing, China and earn yourself the Bronze medal?
VG: It was a huge win for me and the transition to professional boxing. It was a great motivational moment in my career. It was my dream to represent my country in the Olympics and now I have a dream to take the championship belt.

Q: How does it feel to stand on the podium?
VG: I had a feeling of great happiness but I was also saddened by the injury to my hand that stopped me from going further.

Q: What is it like to represent your country?
VG: I had a deep feeling of patriotism. It was an honor and I feel great pride to wear our nation’s colors.

2008 Olympics Photo from
Vyacheslav Glazkov Fan Page

Q: How much pressure did you feel? Did that make it easier or harder for you
VG: I felt a lot of pressure but I learned how to stabilize and balance the pressure to ensure best results.

Q:
What is it like to live in Olympic Village?
VG: It was a great experience. Everything was at the top level. Inside the village everything is set up to provide athletes with the best accommodations for them to succeed. The best thing about the village is that it is an opportunity to meet athletes from all over the world and sports starts such as Kobe Bryant and many others.

Q: Did you meet anyone there with whom you have remained friends?
VG: Yes of course. I met Andrei Kirilenko the basketball player and Elena Esonbayeva. Also Sergey Bubko and other legends of the sport.

Q: How did it feel to participate in the opening and closing ceremonies?
VG: It was over the top emotions a great and amazing feeling. It was the greatest spectacle I have ever seen.

Q: As you know the closing ceremonies for the Sochi 2014 Winter Olympics was last night, did you follow the Olympics this year and if so, how do you feel about your native country of the Ukraine’s performance.
VG: I am very happy for my country especially in such hard times.

Q: You earned a gold medal in 2004 at the first ever World University Boxing Championships, held in Antalya, Turkey. Over 120 boxers from 27 different countries participated in this tournament, how does this accomplishment compare to being awarded the Bronze medal just 4 years later at the 2008 Olympic Games?
VG: In 2004, the win was my first great accomplishment and it was the first step in the final push to the bigger fights, a higher level of competition and a step closer to my 2008 Olympic medal.

Q: At the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing, China, you were forced to pull out your semi-finals match-up with Zhang Zhilei due to a shoulder injury. You were awarded the Bronze medal and Zhilei would be awarded the Silver medal, do you ever think about how that match-up would have played out if you were not forced to withdraw from the bout?
VG: I beat him twice already before the Olympics. If not for the injury I strongly believe that I would have beat him again.

Q: What was your favorite thing and least favorite thing about the Olympics?
VG: My most favorite thing about the Olympics was winning my medal and the organization of this mega-sporting event. My least favorite thing about the Olympics was the huge pressure and responsibility and of course the injury to my hand.

Q: Did you have a lot of friends/family that travelled with you to the Games to support you? What was that like for you?
VG: My father came to support me as well as the president of the boxing federation and of course my dear wife. It made me feel good and warm to have someone in the stands to root for me.

Q: How did your Olympic experience prepare you for professional boxing?
VG: At the Olympics I got a lot of experience and knowledge: I learned how to handle pressure and responsibility, how to train tough and boxing skills from other great boxers.

Chilemba Will Take on Grachev on March 15th in Co-Feature at Sands in Bethlehem, PA on NBCSN Fight Night

Bethlehem, PA: Light Heavyweights Isaac “Golden Boy” Chilemba (21-2-2, 9 KOs) and Denis “The Pirate/Drago’s Son” Grachev (13-2-1, 8 KOs) will face off on March 15th in the ten round Co-Feature on NBCSN Fight Night at the Sands Casino and Hotel in Bethlehem, PA. The main event features the heavyweight battle between Tomasz “Goral” Adamek and Vyacheslav “Czar” Glazkov. It’s a fitting co-feature for the card billed as “The Crossroads.”

Chilemba, of Johannesburg, South Africa, is coming off an eight-round unanimous decision victory over Ghana native, Michael Gbenga, at Turning Stone Casino in Verona, New York on November 16th. It was the first step on his road back to the top of the light heavyweight division after two ill-fated bouts with England’s Tony Bellew. Their first contest on March 30, 2013 ended in a controversial draw; many thought the “Golden Boy” should have won. In their second bout two months later, Chilemba lost a unanimous decision. Since then, he has changed promoters and has been working hard in the gym with his trainer, former world welterweight champion and Boxing Writers Association of America Trainer of the Year for 2002, Buddy McGirt. When asked about Grachev, Chilemba said, “I know he is a tough Russian fighter, he has been in the ring against some of the best fighters and defeated some of them. I’m looking forward to the challenge.” He added, “I am going for the victory. This is my time, I’ll destroy anyone who dares to stand in my way.”

Chilemba

“The Pirate,” who is originally from Chaykovsky, Russia, made his name by scoring a huge upset two years ago against Ismayl Sillakh, who came into their fight a lauded prospect and huge favorite. Grachev stopped Sillakh in the eighth round. After his big win, Grachev suffered defeat by unanimous decision to Lucian Bute in Montreal. He redeemed himself in the “Monaco Million Dollar Super Four” tournament by handing Zsolt Erdei his first defeat. In the final round of the tournament, he fell to Edwin Rodriguez in a disappointing first round TKO on July 13, 2013. When asked about Chilemba, Grachev said, “Chilemba is a good boxer, but I can hit hard.” He added, “I want a clean fight.”

Grachev

We see that in this fantastic co-feature with Isaac Chilemba facing Denis Grachev, where both fighters are in a make-or-break position, and in the main event (Adamek vs. Glazkov) where we have an experienced veteran taking on a young prospect.”

Adamek to take on Glazkov on March 15th

Tomasz Adamek
Former two division champion Tomasz Adamek will take on Vyacheslav Glazkov in a Heavyweight bout on March 15th at the Sands in Bethlehem according to Dan Rafael of espn.com.

The bout, which will be televised on NBC Sports Network was originally to take place on November 16th but Adamek withdrew due to an illness and he was replaced by Garrett Wilson.

“We had the right to reschedule the bout between Adamek and Glazkov in the contract and we invoked that right away,” said Main Events Kathy Duva. “We want to do the fight. The fighters want to do the fight. We think it’s a terrific fight and meaningful heavyweight fight and we didn’t want to lose it. Tomasz was sick for a few days and now he is fine.”

Vyacheslav “Czar” Glazkov: “In the coming year I want to fight as many times possible. I want to get into the highest rankings and get closer, or even actually get a championship fight by the end of year 2014.”

Sergey “Krusher” Kovalev: “My goal in 2014 is to fight a minimum of 4 times and to fight one of the other champions, like IBF, WBC or WBA. I want to have another belt by the end of the coming year.”

Ilshat “The Sheriff” Khusnulgatin: “The end of 2013 was successful for me. I signed a contract with a good team. I intend to improve the quality of my boxing. In the coming year my goal is to improve and enhance my position in the rankings.”

DON TURNER VS. ROGER BLOOWORTH: TWO TRAINERS AS HUNGRY FOR VICTORY AS THEIR FIGHTERS

VERONA, NY – On Saturday afternoon, when Tomasz Adamek, 49-2, 29 KOs, and Czar Glazkov, 15-0-1, 11 KOs, go to war in their 12-rounder to claim the #2 spot in the IBF heavyweight rankings, the two fighters won’t be the only ones with their reputations on the line. Just as proud and equally eager for victory as Adamek and Glazkov, are Roger Bloodworth and Don Turner, the legendary trainers that have guided these heavyweights into this critical bout.

Adamek and Glazkov fight live on NBC broadcast television, beginning at 2:30 PM ET/11:30 AM PT, Saturday afternoon, November 16th. Both the ringside crowd at the Turning Stone Resort Casino and the large TV audience watching at home, will be focused on the boxers in the ring, but an evenly competitive matchup will be going on in the corners between the two renowned trainers.

Don Turner, the trainer of Vyacheslav “Czar” Glazkov, is best known for his championship tenure with the great Evander Holyfield. Turner guided “The Real Deal” to his pair of legendary wins over Mike Tyson in world heavyweight championship fights. The old-school trainer has been in the sport for more than 50 years, and has also worked with other world champions and top contenders like Larry Holmes, Aaron Pryor, Mike McCallum, and many others. In Glazkov, Turner believes he has the next serious title threat at heavyweight.

Don Turner and Czar Glazkov

Turner said, “I have been in this game a long time. I’ve seen a lot of fighters and trainers come and go. I know that on the 16th I will have done everything I can to get my fighter prepared for whatever comes at him. We’ll be ready. We’ll see if Roger can say the same thing.”

Like Turner, Roger Bloodworth, has been kicking around the sport for decades. Bloodworth made his bones working with the likes of Pernell Whittaker, Andrew Golota, Fernando Vargas, David Tua, and Eddie Hopson. But it is his work as head trainer for current charge, Tomasz Adamek, that has cemented his reputation as one of boxing’s best trainers. Bloodworth helped Adamek transition into a heavyweight contender, after winning world titles in two lighter weight classes. That’s no easy trick. Yet Adamek has been victorious in all but one of his heavyweight starts, and is a win or two away from another try at his third world championship.

“It’s not about me, it’s about Tomasz,” said Bloodworth. “I don’t worry about what Don Turner is doing. We both have a job to do and I can’t speak for him, but I know I’ve done mine well. I’ve given Tomasz the tools he needs to win, now he just has to use them on the 16th.”

The trainers’ credentials are an even match, and each of them believes that come Saturday afternoon, they will have the correct game plan to carry their fighter to victory.

Of course the winning boxer, Adamek or Glazkov, will get all the glory, but true boxing fans understand that the fighters couldn’t do it without the right trainer in their corner. Lucky for Adamek and Glazkov that, on Saturday, two of the best trainers in the business will have their backs.

Adamek vs. Glazkov? Bloodworth vs. Turner? Let the games begin.

JAM-PACKED UNDERCARD SUPPORTS ADAMEK-GLAZKOV

Tomasz Adamek
VERONA, NY – A jam-packed undercard is scheduled for Saturday afternoon in support of a nationally televised boxing double-header at the Turning Stone Resort Casino in Verona, NY. In the main event, heavyweights Tomasz Adamek, 48-2, 29 KOs, and Czar Glazkov, 15-0-1, 11 KOs, square off in a 12-round heavyweight eliminator that will determine the #2 IBF contender.

Fight fans can watch that bout, along with an interesting 8-round battle between lightweight prospects Karl “Dynamite” Dargan, 13-0, 7 KOs, and Mike “Lefty” Brooks, 11-0-1, 2 KOs, at home on NBC network TV, beginning at 2:30PM. However, fans who come to the live event at the Turning Stone will be treated to a stacked set of preliminary bouts featuring a sampling of some of today’s top young talent.

South African light heavyweight Isaac “Golden Boy” Chilemba, 20-2-2, 9 KOs, clashes with “The Amazing” Michael Gbenga, 13-9, 13 KOs, of Ghana in an 8-round bout. Chilemba is the favorite, but he’ll have to be on the lookout for Gbenga’s power shots which have taken out every fighter that he’s beaten.

In a 6-round cruiserweight fight, Albanian puncher, Sevdail Sheriffi, 9-2-2, 8 KOs, faces Houston’s Quantis Graves, 9-0, 4 KOs. The promising Graves is undefeated but “The Sherriff” is a hot, rising hopeful fighting in the US for just the second time. Once the bell rings, questions about each fighter will be answered.

In another 6-rounder, undefeated super middleweight Andy Mejias, 14-0, 6 KOs, Utica, NY, meets tough Philly trial horse, Latin Mundy, 10-8, 4 KOs. All eyes are on Mejias, but Mundy is determined to punch his way back into the picture at 168 pounds, and can’t be counted out.

In a 4-round middleweight fight, Trent Laidler of Palm Beach, FL, makes his professional debut against Philadelphia’s Anthony Watson, 0-1, who will looking to ruin Laidler’s introduction to the sport.

A pair of super middleweights are slated to open the live show in another 4-rounder. Undefeated John Magda, 3-0, 3 KOs, has jumped out to a good start since turning pro in August. He’s knocked out everyone so far, and will look to add Maurice Amaro, 2-5, 1 KO, to his budding resume. However, Philly’s Amaro is tough, and should give the streaking Magda a real test.

The live, ringside action gets underway at the Turning Stone Resort Casino beginning at 12:30PM.

TWO EXCITING FIGHTS SET FOR NBC BROADCAST TV NOVEMBER 16TH – TURNING STONE RESORT CASINO

tomasz-adamek
VERONA, NY – An exciting pair of fights will be broadcast on network TV by NBC, Saturday afternoon, November 16th, from the Turning Stone Resort Casino in Verona, NY. The old school afternoon offering pits two battle-tested heavyweights with reputations for delivering high-action performances. Tomasz Adamek and Czar Glazkov meet in the 10-round crossroads main event. An interesting 8-round fight between undefeated rising lightweights Karl Dargan and Michael Brooks fills out the coveted co-feature slot. The NBC Fight Night broadcast will begin at 2:30PM ET.

Former two-time world champion, Tomasz “Goral” Adamek, 49-2, 29 KOs, is still going strong after 14 years in the ring, and again finds himself just one impressive win away from another shot at the world heavyweight championship. Polish-born Adamek never disappoints boxing fans with his heavy hands, granite chin and insatiable thirst for battle. Before he can return to a world title fight, Tomasz must first handle Glazkov, a younger fighter who intends to end his storied run.

Adamek has other ideas, “Glazkov knows that sparring with me is totally different than fighting me. I know he wants to replace me, but I worked too hard, it will not happen.”

Glazkov and Adamek Photo credits to Rich Graessle
On the other side of the ring, rising young gun, Vyacheslav “Czar” Glazkov, 15-0-1, 11 KOs, is ready to topple his seasoned foe in his own march toward a heavyweight title opportunity. Czar has displayed plenty of punching power and is confident that he can defeat the former champ.

Said Glazkov, “I’ve been training very hard for this bout and definitely know it won’t be easy because Adamek is a very skillful and tough veteran. As an upcoming prospect I will do whatever it takes and fight til the end to win this fight.” He added, “I understand this win would open a gate for me into deep waters of the heavyweight division. This is important and I don’t intend to waste this opportunity.”

The heavyweight division has started to come back to life over the last couple years and this matchup has the potential to be the most exciting of the bunch. “We know this will be a straightforward battle between two pros who pack a punch and never take a step backwards. Glazkov has the better knockout credentials, but Adamek’s world-class experience cannot be underestimated,” said Kathy Duva of Main Events.

The NBC Fight Night boxing series has always been a proving ground for rising young talent eager to make a name for themselves. This is certainly the case with the hotly anticipated 8-round lightweight contest that hits the airwaves just before Adamek-Glazkov goes live. In their first taste of national TV exposure, Karl Dargan and Michael Brooks are ready to place the boxing world on notice that they are the next big thing at 135. However, only one fighter can advance.

Philly’s Karl “Dynamite” Dargan, 13-0, 7 KOs, was a celebrated amateur who has been coming into his own as a professional. He has easily handled each of his assignments since his first pro start in 2007, and never looked better than in his most recent time out. He’ll look to impress again, this time before more than a million boxing fans watching on NBC.

Long Island lefty Michael Brooks, 10-0-1, 2 KOs, displays a confidence that was built on life lessons he learned both in and out of the ring. Brooks, who works with disadvantaged kids, once said in an interview that he feels destined to become a lightweight Rocky Marciano. If Brooks is right, Dargan may be in trouble on November 16th.

The sought-after co-feature spot on NBC’s afternoon Fight Night broadcasts has proven to be a launching pad for lesser known prospects. Just one year ago, a then-unknown Czar Glazkov burst onto the scene with a showy TKO against Tor Hamer in the 8-round opening bout on the Adamek-Cunningham NBC card. In the Fury-Cunningham opener in April, Curtis Stevens decisioned Derrick Findley giving him the exposure he needed to secure a high-profile fight with middleweight king Gennady “GGG” Golovkin.

Speaking of this tremendous opportunity for Dargan and Brooks, promoter Kathy Duva said, “We really enjoy the opportunity that we have on these NBC broadcast shows to expose young fighters to a much larger audience than would typically see their fights at this stage of their careers. I can’t wait to see what these undefeated boxers will show the world on November 16th.”

No matter who comes out on top in the two terrific bouts scheduled for November 16th, it is a sure bet that the biggest winners on November 16th will be the boxing fans watching, both at ringside and at home on NBC.

UNBEATEN DARGAN AND BROOKS SET TO CLASH ON NBC

A pair of unbeaten lightweight prospects are scheduled to clash in the 8-round co-feature on the next edition of Fight Night on NBC, on November 16th. Philadelphian Karl Dargan, 13-0-0, 7 KOs, faces Long Island, NY southpaw Michael Brooks, 10-0-1, 2 KOs, at the Turning Stone Resort and Casino, in Verona, NY. The bout will be nationally televised just before the main event, a 12-round heavyweight contest between Tomasz Adamek, 49-2, 29 KOs, and Vyacheslav “Czar” Glazkov, 15-0-1, 11 KOs. The fight will be broadcast as the co-feature during an afternoon presentation the popular NBC boxing series beginning 2:30 PM ET.

“Dynamite” Dargan, a member of Philly’s Concrete Jungle Boxing Team, which is lead by Dargan’s uncle and all-star trainer Brother Naazim Richardson, was an outstanding amateur, winning numerous National and International tournaments before turning professional. As a pro, Dargan has defeated everyone put in his path, and turned in perhaps his most impressive performance the last time he stepped into the ring when he scored a second round TKO of Edward Valdez at the Theater at Madison Square Garden, in New York. Recently Dargan served as chief sparring partner for Canelo Alvarez during Canelo’s preparation for the Mayweather fight.

“Mike Brooks is an undefeated fighter, like me, which means he’s not a walk in the park,” said Dargan, “I’m sure he doesn’t want to lose that 0 so I know he’s gonna protect it with all he has.” He added, “When things get heated in the ring and I step it up to another level, we will see if Brooks can rise to that level also, if not he will come up short, VERY SHORT!”

“Lefty” Brooks had success in the amateur ranks as well. He won the 2008 National PAL tournament by beating top amateur Allen Gary Russell. Michael turned pro the following year and zipped through nine straight foes. The only mark on his record came in fight number ten, with a 4-round technical draw against undefeated Juan Villanueva in March. However, Brooks bounced right back by defeating Joseph Perez, 10-3, in his most recent start.

“I feel very blessed and excited to be given the opportunity to fight a known, skilled, undefeated fighter like Dargan,” Brooks said. “When I entered the amateur ranks for the 1st time Dargan was already #1, so he’s a veteran and has been around rich competition. I would say this shows I have proven that I have what it takes – and Dargan will see for himself November 16!”

The fight between Dargan and Brooks looks to be an interesting matchup of young talent, a classic New York vs. Philly match-up. Dargan has more knockouts, but usually depends on his boxing ability to win fights. Against Brooks, he’ll meet a fellow boxer looking to trade jabs and match wits with him.

The nationally televised bout is each fighter’s biggest platform to date. So it is a sure bet that both will come to the Turning Stone Casino to not only win, but to impress everyone watching.

ADAMEK – GLAZKOV HEADLINE NOV 16th NBC NETWORK SHOW AT TURNING STONE RESORT CASINO

Tomasz Adamek
In a classic heavyweight match up, Tomasz “Goral” Adamek, 49-2, 29 KO’s, will take on Vyacheslav “Czar” Glazkov, 15-0-1, 11 KO’s, on Saturday, November 16th at Turning Stone Resort Casino in Verona, NY. Doors will open at 12 PM ET, First Fight at 1PM ET.

The fight will be the main event of the afternoon presentation of NBC Fight Night. The two hour broadcast will begin at 3PM ET.

The veteran Adamek will put his IBF North American Heavyweight belt on the line in this 12-round battle, against the up and coming Ukrainian. The IBF has designated this bout as a heavyweight voluntary eliminator fight for the #2 position.

This is a “must-win” fight for both fighters. Their come forward styles promise to deliver an exciting, action-packed night for boxing fans. Glazkov worked in Adamek’s training camp to help the Polish favorite prepare for his last fight against Dominick Guinn. Obviously each fighter has knowledge of the other’s style and technique, as well as confidence that they can beat the other guy.

“This fight cannot help but be a non-stop action brawl,” said promoter Kathy Duva of Main Events. “A classic ‘cross roads’ fight, it is exactly the kind of signature launching pad match-up that we like to present on NBC. The winner of Adamek-Glazkov will put himself in a position for much bigger things in 2014.”

Glazkov is thrilled with the opportunity, “I have already been training hard. I had a very good camp boxing with Klitschko, as I helped him prepare for his fight with Povetkin. Now I will come to the United States to continue my training.” He added, “Adamek is a very good fighter with a big name. He is big and strong and comes forward during the fight, this is good for me. I think I can win this fight. It will help put my name on the list of the best heavyweight fighters.”

Adamek stated,”I know Glazkov is young and hungry to win, but I will be ready for him. I know our styles will make a good fight for all the fans.” He added “I’m excited to be fighting at Turning Stone for the first time. I’ve spent time with friends and family in that area so I know there will be a big Polish crowd to cheer me on.”

Main Events Back on NBC Network TV November 16th – Adamek vs. Glazkov

Tomasz Adamek
TOTOWA, NJ – September 7, 2013 – Boxing is back on network TV on Saturday afternoon, November 16th when Tomasz “Goral” Adamek takes on Vyacheslav “Czar” Glazkov on NBC. The 12-round match for Adamek’s IBF North American Heavyweight title on NBC. The fight has been sanctioned for the #2 position in the heavyweight division.

Adamek, 49-2, 29 KO’s, is coming off an August 3rd 10 round unanimous decision over Dominick Guinn on NBC Sports Network. Glazkov, 15-0-1, 11 KO’s, scored a second round TKO against Byron Polley on the same card. The November 16th afternoon broadcast will begin on NBC at 3PM ET.

“We are quite pleased to present this classic match-up between a tough, highly respected veteran and two-division former world champion in Adamek, and an exciting, young up-and-coming former Olympic medalist in Glazkov on our next NBC afternoon broadcast,” said promoter Kathy Duva.

“Being back on network TV for the third time in just 11 months makes this event that much more special. When Adamek appeared on NBC, last December, he brought the biggest television audience of 2012. We won’t be surprised if Adamek-Glazkov garners the biggest audience on broadcast or cable television for 2013, as well.

Duva added, “I cannot thank everyone at NBC Sports enough for this incredible platform and the support that they have shown for professional boxing over the past two years.”

Fight venue details are being finalized and undercard fights will be announced shortly.

Stevens Destroys Roman in One

Curtis Stevens entered tonight’s middleweight bout against Saul Roman with the knowledge that a solid performance could assure him a big money title fight against Gennady Golovkin in his next appearance. His execution couldn’t have been better.

Early in round one, Stevens stunned Roman with a left hook and proceeded to unload shots, finally dropping him with a hard left hook. Roman was able to beat the count and was trying desperately to survive when a brutal counter left hook put him out cold.

So viscous was the KO that it all but put ink on the Golovkin-Stevens contract. Stevens does have legit power and assuming Golovkin-Stevens does get made, it’ll be fun while it lasts. Stevens improves to 25-3 (18KO’s) while Roman slides to 37-10 (31KO’s).

In what amounted to a stay busy fight, heavyweight Tomasz Adamek soundly outpointed the aging Dominick Guinn over 10 one-sided rounds. Adamek was initially scheduled to take on Tony Grano in a more significant fight, but a neck injury forced Grano to withdraw from the fight and Guinn took his place on short notice.

The fight between Adamek and Guinn, despite being a downgrade, turned out about as well as could be expected. Neither fighter was ever in any trouble, but Adamek was able to keep the crowd entertained by putting together 3, 4 and 5 punch combinations during each of the rounds.

Guinn, a once promising prospect who is now out of shape and in the twilight of his career, still possessed enough defense and power to keep Adamek from overwhelming him. Guinn has never been stopped and the punches he did land throughout the fight clearly kept Adamek honest.

A cut opened over Guinn’s eye in round three from an accidental headbutt but it had little effect on the fight. It was all Adamek throughout and the scores reflected it: 98-92 and 99-91 (twice) all in favor of Adamek.

Although the fight didn’t do much to raise his stock in the division, Adamek did get 10 solid rounds in and remains in place to mix it up with any of the current heavyweight contenders. His record now stands at 49-2 (29KO’s).

Guinn has become the consummate journeyman and still has enough pop in his shots to remain in the role for the foreseeable future. He drops to 34-10 (31KO’s).

If Eddie Chambers was hoping to excite people about his entrance into the cruiser weight division, his debut tonight against Thabiso Mchunu was a disaster on all counts. A lethargic Chambers seemed content to follow Mchunu around the ring, alternately posturing and flicking out the occasional jab. Mchunu did little to help, as his strategy was to counter and Chambers’lack of activity offered little to work with.

So for 30 minutes, the two circled around the ring and stared each other down. Nearly the only scoring blows were produced by Mchunu left hand counters. Each round was nearly a mirror image and few could blame Mchunu for pot-shotting his way to the biggest win of his career. Scores were 97-93 and 99-91 (twice).

Mchunu improves to 13-1 (9KO’s) and it remains to be seen how good he really is simply because Chambers looked so terrible. For Chambers, (now 36-4 18KO’s) it seems time to reassess whether or not he wants to continue to be a professional prize fighter; because his performance tonight was one of a man who has lost all interest in boxing.

Up and coming heavyweight Vyacheslav Glazkov displayed his power and annihilated journeyman Byron Polley in less than two rounds. Midway through round 1 Polley hit the canvas via a hard right hand from Glazkov. Polley rode out the 8 count on one knee but when he rose, was met from another flurry from Glazkov that put him on the canvas for the second time.

Polley survived the round but was overpowered seconds into round two. A left hook, right hand left hook combo from Glazkov dumped Polley to the seat of his pants and referee Harvey Dock waived off the fight without a count.Time of the stoppage was 30 seconds of round two. Glazkov remains unbeaten at 15-0-1 (11KO’s) while Polley slips to 25-16-1 (11KO’s).

Glazkov’s manager, Egis Klimas said after the fight that Glazkov was looking to fight Dereck Chisora in his next bout.

In a 6 round lightweight tilt, East Hartford native Joseph “Chip”Perez dropped a unanimous decision to Staten Island, NY’s Mike Brooks. Brooks opened with a strong body attack and stuck to his plan throughout the fight. Perez was busy but largely ineffective for the first 4 rounds. He picked up the pace in rounds 5 and 6, but was docked a point for an elbow in round 6 that effectively put the fight out of reach. Scores at the end were 57-56, 59-54 and 60-53 all in favor of Brooks; who now stands at 11-0 (2KO’s). Perez drops his second in a row and is now 10-3 (3KO’s).

In the opening bout of the evening undefeated junior middleweight Tony Harrison made short work of his opponent Gilbert Alex Sanchez, blitzing him out before the end of the second round. Harrison was mostly inactive during the first round and he allowed Sanchez to wing punches at his body and head with limited success.

Halfway through round 2, Harrison started sitting down on his punches and scored a delayed reaction knockdown with a jab right hand to Sanchez’s head. Sanchez was slow to rise but to his credit mounted spirited effort to get back into the fight before being dropped for good by a Harrison body shot. Referee Harvey Dock waived off the fight at 2:10 of round 2. Harrison improves to 14-0 (11KO’s) while Sancez drops to 2-3 (2KO’s).

Welterweights Jimmy Williams and Greg Jackson plodded through a 4 rounder in a fight in which neither fighter was willing to risk opening up in order to secure the win. Jackson tried counter punching for most of the fight but the strategy was ineffective because Williams was hesitant to display much more than a jab in each of the four rounds.

The result was an ugly split draw. One judge had it 39-37 for Williams but was overruled by the other two who had it even at 38-38. Both fighters remain undefeated: Williams at 4-0-1 (2KO’s) and Jackson at 3-0-1 (1KO).
