HITZ BOXING RETURNS TO THE BELVEDERE CHICAGO: TOMMY ZBIKOWSKI COMEBACK CONTINUES

CHICAGO — June 13, 2016 — Hitz Boxing returns to Elk Grove on June 17th, where Tommy Zbikowski resumed his professional boxing career in April after five long years out of the squared circle. The former Notre Dame football legend shook off the ring rust with a four-round unanimous decision over Keith Jackson, before returning to the ring just three weeks later in Hammond, Indiana. His sensational first round knockout performance at the Horseshoe Casino on May 14th erased any doubt that he’d found his new calling as a professional prize fighter. The Chicago firefighter returns June 17th at Hitz Boxing’s Fight Night at the Belvedere in a four-round cruiserweight bout.

Bobby Hitz, founder and promoter of Hitz Boxing, Chicagoland’s longest-running promotion, is himself a former boxer and football player, and was inducted into the American Football Hall of Fame in 2015. “Tommy is a great guy to work with, and the fans love him,” said Hitz of the one-time Baltimore Raven. “He’s not just a flash in the pan. He won the Chicago Golden Gloves, which is no small feat. He can fight, he’s got a good team behind him, and we’re happy to be part of his return to boxing.”

Heavyweight Nick Mazurek (5-0, 5KO), who also made quick work of his opponent at the Horseshoe Casino May 14th, will return in a four round bout. The young fighter is turning heads with his quick hands and powerful punches. He’s joined on the card by fellow Chicagoan David “Diesel” Latoria (10-0, 5KO), in a separate heavyweight contest, who will step into the ring for the first time since defeating Edward Gutierrez in 2012.

Rounding out the card, Jaime Herrera (13-3-1, 7KO) will make his first appearance in 2016 in a six-round bout at welterweight. Flyweight Javier Rivera (2-0, 0KO) stays busy at flyweight, and light heavyweight amateur sensation Martez McGregor will make his debut in front of his hometown crowd.

TOMMY ZBIKOWSKI RETURNS AT THE HORSESHOE HAMMOND ON MAY 14TH

CHICAGO — April 27, 2016 — Tommy Zbikowski (5-0, 3KO) made a splash in front of a sold-out hometown crowd last Friday night, when he defeated Keith Jackson by unanimous decision in the four round, crowd pleasing main event at the Belvedere in Chicago. Zbikowski a former Notre Dame and NFL footballer, and now Chicago Firefighter, looks to keep the momentum going when he returns May 14th at the Horseshoe in Hammond, Indiana, in the next installment of Hitz Boxing’s long-running fight series, Fight Night at the Horseshoe.

Zbikowski joins a stacked card, which features a 10-round WBC Continental Americas Super Middleweight Title bout between Chicago’s own Mike “Hollywood” Jimenez, and Aaron Pryor, Jr. in the evening’s main event.

He had done his part. And after one last review, so did Miami’s defense.

Ailing arm and all, Harris passed for 386 yards — including a 40-yard pass over double coverage to Travis Benjamin that set up Graig Cooper’s 3-yard touchdown run with 1:53 left — and led the Hurricanes past No. 18 Florida State 38-34 in a wild, back-and-forth game Monday night.

“I was just thinking my team fought through this so long and so hard. All the preparation and it came down to this,” Harris said of watching the final series from the sideline. “Our defense, I know they was going to pull through at the end.” It went down to the last play, a pass Florida State’s Jarmon Fortson nearly scooped off the garnet-colored grass in the end zone as time expired. * Boise State coach Chris Petersen defended his decision not to suspend Byron Hout for his taunting that led to LeGarrette Blount’s punch after the No. 14 Broncos’ victory over Oregon on Thursday. Petersen said the defensive end is being disciplined for yelling in Blount’s face and slapping him on the shoulder pad. But Petersen added he believes “we’ve done the right thing” in not suspending Hout for any games.

Meanwhile, Blount, who has been suspended for the season but is allowed to practice, wasn’t at Oregon’s workout Monday.
