Vergil Ortiz Jr. Stops Lubin in 2; Boots Next?

Vergil Ortiz Jr. took out Erickson Lubin in round two of a 12-round WBC Interim Super Welterweight bout at Dickie Arena in Fort Worth, Texas.

After a feeling-out first round, Ortiz pinned Lubin on the ropes and landed six short shots which was highlighted by a right around the gloves to the head and a left hook to the jaw that completely froze Lubin on the ropes and the fight was stopped before Lubin could get seriously hurt at 1:30.

Ortiz, 153.8 lbs of Grand Prairie, TX is 24-0 with 22 knockouts. Lubin, 154 lbs of Kissimmee, FL is 27-3,

After the fight, Ortiz and Jaron “Boots” Ennis confronted each other and stared down which will hopefully set up a huge fight between the two that will take place in the first quarter of 2026.

“There wasn’t much to evaluate — I just capitalized on his mistakes. I took as much information as I could and used it. The adjustments I made in the second round were to just be cautious. I’m patient,” said Vergil Ortiz Jr.

“I feel people think I’m just a come-forward fighter. Yeah, I’m a come-forward fighter — I love the fight. That’s why I’m in boxing. But you have to be smart too, and I can be smart when I want. I kind of felt I would dominate Lubin, but I just had to believe in myself, and that’s what I did. There were so many people saying I was going to get gassed or that he was going to knock me out. Look, he’s a great fighter, but there are levels to this.”

“This win motivated me a lot. We’re ready for the best — we’re going to fight the best. Boots, come over here!”

Fulghum and Stevens Fight to Draw

Darius Fulghum and David Stevens fought to a 10-round majority draw in a super middleweight bout.

Scores were 96-94 for Fulghum and 95-95 twice.

Fulghum landed 99 of 359 punches. Stevens was 97 of 414.

Fulghum, 167.8 lbs of Houston is 14-1-1. Stevens, 168 lbs of Reading, PA is 15-2-1.

Safar Decisions Miller

In a battle of undefeated cruiserweight, Robin Safar won a 10-round unanimous decision over Derrick Miller Jr.

At the very end of round two, Safar tried to headbutt Miller and he was deducted a point.

Safar, 199.8 lbs of Las Vegas won by scores of 99-90 twice and 98-81 and is now 19-0. Miller, 197.6 lbs of Monroe, MI is 18-1

Eric Priest and Esneiker Correa battled to a eight-round draw in a middleweight bout.

Priest won a card 79-73; Correa took a card 77-75 and a third card was even at 76-76.

Sam Castellanos stopped Ricardo Elizalde in round two of their four-round super welterweight clash.

Castellanos scored a knockdown in round two and the bout was stopped at 1:55 when the corner of Elialde stopped the bout,

Castellanos, 152,2 lbs of Gilroy, CA is 4-0 with tree knockouts, Elizalde, 153 lbs of Tulsa, OK is 0-2.

Opening the DAZN broadcast, undefeated cruiserweight Robin Safar (18-0, 13 KOs) of Las Vegas will square off against Willmore, Michigan’s Derick Miller Jr. (18-0, 10 KOs) in a 10-round clash of unbeatens and for the WBA Continental Americas Cruiserweight Title.

Headlining the Golden Boy Fight Night: Ortiz vs. Lubin Prelims, undefeated Eric Priest (16-0, 8 KOs) will look to continue his ascent in an eight-round middleweight bout against Esneiker Correa (16-6-2, 14 KOs). Rounding out the prelims, Amarillo’s Javier Meza (4-0, 2 KOs) meets El Paso’s Joshua Briones (3-4-1, 2 KOs) in a six-round super lightweight matchup. Opening up fight night, Gilroy, California’s Sam Castellanos (3-0, 2 KOs) is in a four-round super welterweight battle against Tulsa’s Ricardo Elizalde (0-1).

Here is what the main event fighters had to say:

Vergil Ortiz, WBC Interim Super Welterweight Champion:

“Lubin probably has the best resume at 154 right now. He’s one of the highest-ranked opponents, and that’s why I took this fight. I want to fight the best, and Lubin has been calling for this fight for a while. Why not? This is a great matchup, and the fans will love it.”

“Both of us will gain great experience from this. People underestimate how dangerous this fight is, but I don’t care if people overlook me or him. At the end of the day, it’s just me and him in the ring, and that’s all that matters.”

Erickson “Hammer” Lubin, No.1-Ranked Super Welterweight Contender:

“I’ve always wanted to fight the best. Vergil Ortiz is ranked number one by Ring Magazine, and a big win over him puts me right there as the number one guy. This is for the WBC Interim title, and I want to thank God, my team, ProBox, Golden Boy, and PBC for making this fight happen.”

“It’s been a long time coming. This fight is special to me. It’s in Vergil’s backyard. I don’t care if it was literally in his backyard. I’m ready to show I’m the best fighter at 154 pounds. My resume speaks for itself.”

“Everybody tune-in Saturday night — it’s Hammer time. I’ve fought in Texas about five times and walked away with a knockout every time. It’s going to be a big night of boxing, and you don’t want to miss it.”

“Vergil’s a great fighter. He comes to fight, he’s either walking away with a vicious knockout or a dominant performance. Oscar isn’t wrong — we are the two best at 154 pounds. The fans are in for a treat.”

“I took less money just to stay busy and get back into title contention. Vergil has met his match. You’ve got two great fighters going in there Saturday night. The fans, the boxing world, everyone’s in for a treat. It’s going to be a great night of boxing.”

Gary Jonas, ProBox TV CEO:

“We’re just happy to be here. We want to thank Golden Boy, DAZN, and PBC for helping Erickson and making this fight possible. Erickson’s been at this for 11 years. We’ve been together through ups and downs, and he’s focused, ready, and dedicated. This is a fight he really wanted. We’re looking forward to it — may the best man win.”

Rick Mirigian, Manager for Vergil Ortiz:

“This is a real fight. We’ve seen a lot of fights lately that are a joke — this isn’t one of them. These are two fighters who know how to fight. They’ve been in there with champions, and this is what the sport of boxing needs and deserves.”

“I want to thank Oscar, our team, Robert Garcia, Vergil Sr., our doctors, and cutman Mike Rodriguez. Vergil is ready. You’re going to see fireworks and the birth of a superstar on Saturday night. Mark my words.”

Oscar De La Hoya, Chairman and CEO of Golden Boy Promotions:

“He’s earned it — he’s the number one contender in the world. Vergil Ortiz has been fighting tough fights, climbing the ladder, and becoming an interim world champion. Lubin is right there too; he’s fought world champions and dangerous opponents.”

“This is another dangerous fight for Vergil Ortiz, but that’s who Vergil is — he takes on all comers. My only worry is that people are already talking about the next fight against Boots Ennis. I hear Boots might be coming to the fight with Eddie Hearn, but if they see Vergil in person, they might not want to fight him. Vergil Ortiz in person is a dangerous man.”

“What I love about Lubin is that he doesn’t care. He’s ready, he’s fought the best, and he doesn’t care that he’s fighting Vergil in his hometown. He’s here to take care of business. That’s why he’s so dangerous — maybe even more dangerous than Ennis. Vergil’s focused and determined on the job at hand, and that’s Lubin.”

“Both fighters believe in themselves, and that’s exactly what they should do. They’ve fought adversity, won, lost, and earned this moment. They’re here because they are the best at 154 pounds. You’re going to see the best of them Saturday night at Dickies Arena.”

“I remember Vergil Ortiz as a young kid fighting underneath Canelo at AT&T Stadium. He told Jerry Jones, ‘I’m going to fill up this stadium one day.’ Well, Jerry, we’re getting close. Saturday night, Erickson Lubin is coming in guns blazing — but Vergil’s got a dance partner who knows how to dance.”

VIDEO: VERGIL ORITZ JR VS. ERICKSON LUBIN PRESS CONFERENCE

QUOTES INTERIM WBC SUPER WELTERWEIGHT CHAMPION VERGIL ORTIZ JR. VS. ERICKSON “THE HAMMER” LUBIN KICKOFF PRESS CONFERENCE

ARLINGTON, Texas – September 23, 2025 – Undefeated knockout artist and interim WBC Super Welterweight World Champion Vergil Ortiz Jr. (23-0, 21 KOs) and top contender Erickson “The Hammer” Lubin (27-2, 19 KOs) came face-to-face on Tuesday at the kickoff press conference for their November 8 title bout. The world championship clash is presented by Golden Boy Promotions in association with ProBox and will be streamed live worldwide on DAZN beginning at 8 p.m. ET.

Hosted by sports commentator Todd Grisham, Tuesday’s press conference from Texas Live in Arlington offered the main and co-main event fighters the chance to showcase their skills on the mic. Ortiz, the Grand Prairie native, is looking to put on a show for his hometown fans and showcase his reputation as one of boxing’s most dangerous punchers. Lubin, rated as the No. 1 contender by the IBF and in the top 10 by the WBO, WBC and The Ring magazine, is entering enemy territory and will look to showcase his own power, which will certainly equal fireworks for those in attendance and watching at home. In the evening’s co-main event, top lightweight contender Floyd “Kid Austin” Schofield (19-0, 13 KOs) will battle former junior lightweight champion Joseph “JoJo” Diaz (34-8-1, 15 KOs). Schofield is coming off a first-round knockout of former junior lightweight champion Tevin Farmer, while Diaz last faced former junior welterweight champ Regis Prograis, losing a narrow decision.

Here is what the fighters had to say:

Vergil Ortiz Jr

On why Lubin is a dangerous opponent for him

“He’s a dangerous fighter because he has intellect, he has experience, and he has power. He likes to fight. I’ve seen his flights before. He legitimately goes in there to fight people. I respect that about him, but he’s also a smart fighter as well, so when you add both of those into the question, that’s when you have a dangerous fighter.”

On what the atmosphere will be like in Fort Worth

“It’s going to be electric. Everyone in the DFW, Grand Prairie, Fort Worth, Dallas, wherever they’re from – they always show out. There’s a big fan base here for boxing. I know all the fans here are going to enjoy it on November 8.

On how motivated is he to knock Lubin out and put on a show for the fans

“I’m very motivated. I want to win. I want to win looking good. Just being in the ring with someone with the pedigree like Erickson Lubin, it motivates me to train harder, to actually want to come to the gym. I’ve been in some fights where I’m fighting someone and I’m like, “Let’s just get this thing over with.” This fight, I look forward to the gym; I want to work hard; I want to do good in sparring. So that is the kind of fight this is.”

On his message to his fans before November 8

“Shout out to the DFW and everyone around the world for continuing to support through the highs and the lows. Nothing else much to say. November 8, we’ll see you there.”

Erickson Lubin

On why he’s so confident that he can beat Vergil Ortiz Jr

“I fought for the world title in just my third year – this is my 12th year as a pro. I took no steps back. I fought top opposition after top opposition and Vergil Ortiz is no different. He’s another top fighter. This is my third undefeated fighter in a row, and I’m looking to become that dude at 154 pounds. I also wanna give a big shoutout to my daughter; it’s her fourth birthday today. You know, it’s the sacrifices you’ve gotta make, you know, being away from family, being away from their birthdays and stuff like that, just so I can give them a better way of living. I want to give a big shoutout to Gary Jonas. You know, that’s one guy that believed in me from the beginning. I’ve been with him since I was 17 years old, and I turn 30 next week. I’m just excited. Vergil Ortiz is a great competitor, and I think the fans are in for a treat. November 8, it will be fireworks, it will be a great matchup. We’ve got a black fighter versus a Mexican fighter– that always makes for a great fight. It’s gonna be a historical matchup.”

On what will happen if Vergil Ortiz Jr comes into the fight thinking he’s got it won

“I make no predictions. I know it’s gonna be a great fight, and all that matters to me is me walking out of Dickies Arena with my hands raised and the fans silent. The crowd silent.”

On what fans can expect on November 8

“November 8 it will be fireworks. I want everybody to tune in live on DAZN. It will be a special fight, a great matchup. I tip my hat to Vergil Ortiz and his team. Tune in.”

Joseph Diaz

On what he has in store for Schofield when he steps into the ring on November 8th

“I’m very excited. I’m very excited to be fighting. He’s an undefeated fighter, ranked number one right now in the world, and I know what I’ve been doing, man. I give my life to Christ and I’ve just been focused and determined and hungry again. I got that hunger and that drive back. I’ve been busting my ass. You guys have seen it against Regis (Prograis). I fought him at 140 but I gave him two pounds because he couldn’t make the weight and I felt like I did good. This fight I’m going back down to 135 and I’m gonna take back what’s mine. Take back the throne.”

On what will happen to Floyd Schofield if he takes him into deep waters

“I feel like it’s my time right now, man. I’ve been through a lot, I feel like I’ve seen everything inside that ring. I have all the experience in the world. I’ve fought top contenders for three to four years already and I feel like it’s my time. Kid Austin is gonna be taking his first defeat with me, but he’s gonna have to bounce back. He’s still young in the game, but he’s gonna take the L and that’s how it is.”

On his message to fans as he prepares to fight one of the toughest fights of his career

“Jesus is King guys, give your life to God and just keep on striving, man, no matter how dark the world is, no matter how hard life gets, there’s always light at the end of the tunnel, man. You guys just gotta keep on staying focused and keep on staying driven, and that’s what I wanna bring to you guys. I’m so thankful for this opportunity, again, to be broadcasting my talents live on DAZN, and I’m gonna give you guys an exciting fight come November 8th.”

Floyd Schofield

On if he will send JoJo Diaz into retirement like Farmer

“Who knows. I know I’m going to be victorious that night. It’ll be a war. Hopefully JoJo can bounce back and do what he has to do to get right. I’ll be victorious.”

On if Diaz can handle his power

“I don’t know, we’ll have to wait and see. People take punches differently, but like I said, JoJo is a warrior. We’ll see November 8.”

On what’s on the line for him in this fight

“I feel like everything rides on this fight. People are overlooking JoJo, they say he’s washed, so if I lose to a guy like that, I don’t know where I go from there. Everything rides on this fight: my ranking, my chance at the world title. I’ll definitely come in focused and give the fans a great show.”

Oscar De La Hoya, Golden Boy Promotions Chairman and CEO

On these two fights

“Every world champion at 154 lbs – which Vergil is fighting Lubin at – did not want to fight Vergil Ortiz. They came up with excuses: ‘I’m not ready,’ ‘I want to fight someone else,’ ‘I need a tune-up fight.’ This is the fight game. This is boxing. If you want to be the best, you have to fight the best, and that’s why I respect Lubin so much. Not only is he the number one contender in the world, he’s fought (Jermell) Charlo, he’s fought tough fights. He has the experience and he has the confidence. He’s coming into this fight knowing and thinking he’s going to win. That’s a real fight for you. There’s a lot at stake. Vergil Ortiz wants to be a unified world champion; Lubin wants to be world champion. This is going to be in Texas, we’re very excited. The co-main event that’s opening up the telecast with Kid Austin and Jo Jo Diaz…this is a fight that you don’t want to miss. It could steal the show. I’ve known Kid Austin for a while and he’s a great fighter. His last outing he fought Tevin Farmer and a lot of people thought, ‘Farmer has too much experience.’ He went in with a world champion and went the distance. Guess what he did? He knocked him out in a minute and thirty seconds. JoJo Diaz on the other hand…Olympian. He’s coming off a fight of the year with Regis Progress, just a month and a half ago. Jo Jo’s coming in with full confidence. This is Kid Austin’s first fight where the experience kicks in. This main event and the co-main event – I’m super excited because everyone has everything to win and everything to lose.”

On why he chose this fight to bring to Texas

“It’s funny, when I promoted Canelo Alvarez here at Dallas Cowboys stadium, I was with Jerry Jones and this young kid (Vergil Ortiz) said, ‘one day I’m going to fill this stadium.’ I said, ‘this kid has a lot of confidence,’ and I love that. Fast forward to now when we decided on Erickson Lubin to fight Vergil; he could possibly derail his plans to fill up this stadium. That’s just the kind of fighter that Lubin is. He’s a tough fighter, has proven himself, and took the challenge because he believes in himself. Unlike the other fighters out there, Lubin stepped up and said, ‘I’ll take them on. I’ll take on the beast of the division.’ Vergil Ortiz is the best fighter at 154 lbs and Lubin might think otherwise, but Vergil Ortiz is the best fighter at 154 lbs period. He’s relentless, strong, and elusive. That’s the one thing about this matchup – I’m only worried that one punch can end it all in one minute. I want to see 12 rounds and a war. I strongly feel that Vergil Ortiz is on a mission. Every single champion at 154lbs is running from Vergil Ortiz and they should be ashamed of themselves. I applaud Erickson Lubin because he stepped up. He is here to win – that’s what makes him a great fighter.”

On whether or not Vergil Ortiz is going to be the next Canelo

“First of all, I respect Canelo for his boxing abilities. As a fighter, you have to respect that, but I truly feel that there has to be a changing of the guard. I think that boxing right now needs a new star. Boxing needs someone to carry the spark. And obviously, Vergil Ortiz has everything it takes to become that man. You can never look past any opponent, you can never look past any person in front of you inside that ring, because you never know. One punch can end it all, can derail your whole plans. So, with Vergil, he’s smart, it’s one fight at a time. Because every single opponent that he faces, every single fighter he faces, is out for his head, man, is out to get him, is out to dethrone him, is out to take that throne from Vergil Ortiz, and he knows it. So, that’s why we chose Texas. That’s why we wanted to bring boxing back to Texas. We are bringing the best fights possible and plus, Dickies Arena and the production we have in store for everybody is incredible. So tell your friends, tell your family, tell everybody to come out November 8th. It is going to be lit, like I said.”

Tickets for Ortiz vs. Lubin are priced at $150, $100, $75, and $25, excluding applicable service charges. A limited number of Golden Boy VIP Experience tickets will also be available, which include exclusive merchandise and fight night upgrades. Tickets can be purchased at Ticketmaster.com or GoldenBoy.com.

He announced his arrival in the professional world in October 2020 with a first-round knockout over Richard Esquibel. Since then, he’s been stacking up impressive wins and showing strong performances round after round. In November 2024, Schofield secured a unanimous decision victory over Rene Giron as the main event at The Virgin Hotels in Las Vegas, further solidifying his status as one of boxing’s top young talents. Despite hitting the canvas in the 11th round, Schofield adjusted quickly and fought back to claim the unanimous decision.

It was an annihilation in Anaheim. Despite the doubters, Schofield stayed grounded, using the skepticism as fuel to prove he’s the real deal. Beyond the ring, Schofield’s story is equally inspiring. He and his father once faced homelessness, living in a shelter for months early in his life. That experience fuels his passion for community work and giving back. More than just a fighter, Schofield is a role model with heart. With fierce determination, “Kid Austin” is ready to prove he belongs at the top of the lightweight division — both inside and behind the ropes.

Joseph “JoJo” Diaz Jr., a 2012 U.S. Olympian and former IBF super featherweight champion, is a fearless fighter known for his pressure and action-packed style. He captured the IBF title in January 2020 with a disciplined win over Tevin Farmer and has consistently gone toe-to-toe with some of boxing’s biggest names. Most recently, Diaz faced former WBC world champion Regis Prograis in a co-main event in Chicago, going 12 thrilling rounds before falling via unanimous decision, a testament to his experience and resilience in the ring.

A native of El Monte, CA, Diaz began boxing at age 10 under the guidance of his father, quickly showing the talent and work ethic that would carry him through an accomplished amateur career. He amassed over 100 wins, captured two national championships, and earned a berth on the 2012 U.S. Olympic team, where he defeated Ukrainian Pavlo Ishchenko before narrowly losing to Cuban world champion Lazaro Alvarez. His Olympic experience set the stage for a smooth transition to the professional ranks, where he quickly established himself as a rising star. With a combination of skill, heart and hunger, JoJo Diaz continues to pursue greatness in the sport of boxing. Known for his exciting fighting style, he remains determined to reclaim championship glory and prove that his journey in the sport is far from finished.

DARE TO ENTER: UNDEFEATED WBC INTERIM CHAMPION VERGIL ORTIZ TO DEFEND SUPER WELTERWEIGHT TITLE FROM NUMBER 1 CONTENDER ERICKSON “THE HAMMER” LUBIN

FORT WORTH, Texas (August 21, 2025) — Undefeated knockout artist and WBC interim super welterweight world champion Vergil Ortiz Jr. (23-0, 21 KOs), of Grand Prairie, Texas, is ready to set his hometown on fire when he headlines against fearless top contender Erickson “The Hammer” Lubin (27-2, 19 KOs), of Orlando, Florida, on Saturday, Nov. 8, at Dickies Arena in Fort Worth. Lubin has dared to enter the lion’s den, stepping up to face one of boxing’s most dangerous punchers. Lubin enters the bout as the IBF’s No. 1-ranked fighter, while also sitting at No. 5 with the WBO, No. 10 with the WBC and in the top 10 of The Ring magazine. The 12-round world championship clash, presented by Golden Boy Promotions in association with ProBox, will be broadcast live worldwide on DAZN beginning at 7 p.m. CT. Fans in Fort Worth can expect an unforgettable night when Ortiz looks to deliver another show-stopping performance in front of his hometown crowd.

More information on tickets and the undercard will be announced very soon.

“I’m always happy to be a part of the fights that fans want to see,” said Vergil Ortiz. “See you guys November 8!”

“I want to thank Golden Boy, PBC and ProBox for making this happen,” said Erickson Lubin. “I think the fans are in for a treat. This is the moment I’ve been waiting for, this fight is about redemption, I’m back for everything.”

“Vergil Ortiz Jr. is the most ducked fighter in boxing — period,” said Chairman and CEO Oscar De La Hoya. “Big names talk tough until Vergil’s name comes up, then suddenly the phone goes silent. I commend Erickson Lubin; he has the guts that these fighters nowadays lack – courage! He has dared to enter Vergil’s den. On Nov. 8 at Dickies Arena, fans are going to see why everyone else keeps running from Vergil Ortiz Jr.”

“Since fundora , Lubin fought Arias, who he dominated and stopped; the undefeated Ramos, highly touted and yet couldn’t do anything with Lubin; and the undefeated Holmes looked like a scared puppy,” said Gary Jonas. “Don’t be surprised, the Hammer is going to beat Ortiz.”

The undefeated knockout monster and current WBC Interim Super Welterweight World Champion, Vergil Ortiz Jr., is one of the most dangerous fighters of this generation. His love for boxing began at five years old when he was introduced to the sport by his father. As a decorated amateur, he is a seven-time national champion and winner of the 2013 Junior Olympics with an impressive record of 140-20. Ortiz signed with Golden Boy in 2016 and made his professional debut on July 30 at the Fantasy Springs Resort Casino with a first-round knockout of Julio Rodas. Since then, he has built an enviable fighter resume that reflects over 90-percent knockouts, and has made some of the world’s toughest contenders fold to his tremendous power including Brad “King” Solomon, Maurice “Mighty Mo” Hooker, Egidijus “Mean Machine” Kavaliauskas and Michael McKinson, to name a few. In August 2024, Ortiz Jr. secured the WBC Interim super welterweight title in a bout that is lauded as a candidate for Fight of the Year, where he went toe-to-toe with the also formerly undefeated Serhii Bohachuk in Las Vegas. He was most recently seen defending his title in dominant fashion against the elite and former WBA super welterweight champion, Israil Madrimov, in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. With this masterclass victory over Madrimov, Ortiz Jr. further cements his place in the super welterweight division, and proves why the boxing world considers him an ‘old-school’ type of fighter. True to his ‘old-school’ mentality, Ortiz trains under the guidance of acclaimed coach Robert Garcia, surrounded by elite fighters at the Robert Garcia Boxing Academy. The high-level environment keeps him sharp, focused and constantly evolving. With his work ethic, Ortiz stays ready to take on any challenge, anytime, anywhere – driven by a passion to give fight fans the great fights they deserve.

Erickson “The Hammer” Lubin has established himself as one of the premier contenders in boxing’s deep and talented junior-middleweight division. Born October 1, 1995, in Orlando, to Haitian parents, Lubin’s journey into boxing began at a young age, quickly standing out as one of the brightest amateur prospects in the country. He compiled an impressive 143–7 amateur record and captured the 2013 National Golden Gloves championship before deciding to turn professional at just 18 years old, bypassing the Olympic path to begin his climb toward world titles. A heavy-handed southpaw with explosive finishing ability, Lubin stormed onto the professional scene with 17 straight victories, 12 of them by knockout, showcasing a rare blend of power, speed, and technical skill. His rapid ascent earned him a shot at the WBC world title against then-champion Jermell Charlo in 2017. Though that night ended in disappointment with a first-round knockout loss, Lubin refused to be defined by the setback. Instead, he rebuilt his career with resilience and determination, proving he remained one of the most dangerous contenders in the division.Lubin returned to prominence with statement wins over top names including Nathaniel Gallimore, former world champion Jeison Rosario, and former title challenger Terrell Gausha. His ability to adapt and improve fight after fight was further evident in 2022, when he faced towering contender Sebastian Fundora in an unforgettable war. Both fighters touched the canvas in a bout that was later hailed as a Fight of the Year candidate, cementing Lubin’s reputation as both a fearless competitor and a crowd-pleasing warrior. In September 2023, Lubin solidified his standing in the division by handing previously undefeated Jesus Ramos Jr. his first professional loss in Las Vegas. Most recently, in May 2025, Lubin scored a dramatic 11th-round TKO over Ardreal Holmes Jr. in an IBF title eliminator, a victory that officially secured his place as the IBF’s mandatory challenger. Currently ranked #1 by the IBF, #3 by the WBC, and a top-five contender with the WBO, Lubin is once again knocking on the door of a world championship opportunity. With 19 of his 27 wins coming by knockout, he remains a threat to end any fight in an instant. Now entering the prime of his career, Erickson “The Hammer” Lubin continues to prove why he is regarded as one of the most talented and exciting fighters in the sport today.

I was more confident, I was lighter, and I just wanted to win so much today.”

I just feel like boxing is what I was made for. We put in all this hard work, it all goes back from that day after kindergarten till now. This Saturday, I will be a world champion.”

SERHII “EL FLACO” BOHACHUK, WBC INTERIM SUPER WELTERWEIGHT WORLD CHAMPION:
“Big fight coming up. I’m ready for this fight. I hope Vergil is ready too. This Saturday will be hard, come and see.”

OSCAR DE LA HOYA, CHAIRMAN AND CEO OF GOLDEN BOY PROMOTIONS:
“In total, these two guys have 45 fights between them. They have ended 44 of them by knockout. This is a guaranteed, action-packed barnburner. Vergil Ortiz, Jr. is the next superstar of boxing. He simply has every tool at his disposal — speed, power and a killer instinct that you can’t teach. Serhii Bohachuk has incredible power and simply does not take a step back. Of his 24 victories, 23 have come within the distance, and in his only fight that did see the final bell, Serhii handily beat Brian Mendoza. Golden Boy is also putting on an incredible undercard featuring debuts, rising prospects and contenders on the cusp of world championship fights. You won’t want to miss this!”
TOM LOEFFLER, MANAGING DIRECTOR OF 360 PROMOTIONS:
“This is a tremendous, tremendous fight. Fireworks guaranteed. Probably the best fight on TV that we’ve seen in a long time. There’s not going to be any slow starts here.”
CHARLES “BAD NEWS” CONWELL, SUPER WELTERWEIGHT WORLD TITLE CONTENDER:
“I’m back again after a short turnover, so I’m excited to be back so fast. This is just another stepping stone to what the future holds for me. I want bigger and better fights each and every time out, so I’m looking forward to watching the main event and every other guy in my division so I can kick the door and take over the division.”
KENNETH “BOSSMAN” SIMS JR, SUPER LIGHTWEIGHT WORLD TITLE CONTENDER:
“I just want to let the world know that I’m back. I’m excited for what the future holds, but right now we got Saturday to take care of. If you want to see something spectacular, tune in on Saturday. I’m never in a dull fight, but on Saturday, I plan to go in there and dominate and show why I’m the number one contender in the WBA world rankings.”
GABRIELA “SWEET POISON” FUNDORA, CURRENT IBF FLYWEIGHT WORLD CHAMPION:
“Thank you to Mandalay Bay for providing such a historical arena. It’s an honor to be fighting here at the Michelob Ultra Arena. Coming this Saturday night, I’m going to be a tough act to follow.”
DANIELA “LA LEONA” ASENJO, FORMER FLYWEIGHT WORLD CHAMPION :
“Once again we’re here to visit to look for a world title. I have a great rival in front of me that I respect a lot. All the way from Chile, we’re going to give a great show.”
JOEL IRIARTE, WELTERWEIGHT PROSPECT:
“I’m making my fourth appearance in five months, and I’m honestly just happy. For everyone that’s tuning in on Saturday night, expect an electrifying performance. I feel like my style is, I heard someone say, like a chameleon, you know, it just gets better. I’m good at adapting with different styles, and I’m ready to showcase a little bit more of my skill sets.”
CECILIA “FIRST LADY” BRAEKHUS, FORMER WORLD CHAMPION:
“Biggest thanks to Maricela for stepping up on such a short notice. You are an absolute hero for this. You are the definition of staying ready. We have been training partners, we have been friends. We are friends, but don’t let that fool you. On Saturday, we’re both coming for that belt.”

MARICELA “LA DIVA” CORNEJO, WORLD TITLE CONTENDER:
“It’s going to be an honor to share the ring with Cecilia “First Lady” Braekhus. I know both of us are going to come out fighting like Tom said, for all the marbles. We’ve worked together in camp, so we’re familiar with each other, but I know she’s only improved and so have I. We’re ready to take over the card.”
MANNY ROBLES, TRAINER TO SERHII BOHACHUK:
“Serhii Bohachuk could have taken an easy route and could have picked an easier opponent, but instead, he chose to fight Vergil Ortiz, and that just goes to show you what kind of fighter Serhii Bohachuk is. He is not afraid of a tough fight. You know, fighting one of the best fighters in the world as we know, an up-and-coming star in Vergil. This has the makings to be the fight of the year, it’s going to be great.”

ROBERT GARCIA, JR., TRAINER TO VERGIL ORTIZ, JR.:
“It’s not just about us, the trainers. It’s about the whole team working together and supporting each other and helping each other out. We’re happy to be here, Oscar, you know this, we’ve been here many times in huge fights. Saturday night, Vergil will become champion of the world. He’s ready, he’s ready to do it, and this is just the beginning of many, many more titles.”
BERNARD HOPKINS, HALL OF FAMER AND GOLDEN BOY PROMOTIONS PARTNER:
“Vergil is a surgeon from my eyes of looking at how he has evolved from fight to fight. I have seen it myself in real time, and so I would say that the main event is going to be one of those fights that Oscar, my partner, and myself and others, vouch to have the best fighters fighting the best. And now that we got some more excitement in the sport of boxing, it’s energized.”

GOLDEN BOY SIGNS 7-TIME NATIONAL CHAMPION AND OLYMPIC TRIALS GOLD MEDALIST JORDAN FUENTES

LOS ANGELES, CALIF. (August 1, 2024) Golden Boy Promotions announced today the signing of top boxing prospect and Team USA member Jordan Fuentes of Fresno, California. A decorated amateur fighter, he is a seven-time National Champion and a four-time State Champion. He will make his professional debut on the Golden Boy Fight Night: Bohachuk vs. Ortiz Preliminary card that will be streamed live on Golden Boy’s YouTube channel.

“For me to get signed with Golden Boy and get the deal I did, there are simply no words other than that I am eternally grateful and blessed to be in this position,” said Jordan Fuentes. “I would like to give a special thanks to my parents, to my sparring partners, to all the gyms that helped me along the way, to my sponsors who always believed in me. To my manager who has followed my career since I was a kid and most of all to my lord and savior Jesus Christ for allowing me to be here and to my sister in heaven for watching me from above. Joining Golden Boy Promotions means I have an opportunity to show the world who I am as a fighter.”

“No one in boxing is better at identifying the top prospects than Golden Boy Promotions,” said company Chairman and CEO Oscar De La Hoya. “As someone who has already overcome the odds to win an Olympic trials gold medal, Jordan has shown the heart of a champion. I am excited to witness his debut in Vegas on August 10th and to help him reach all of his goals in the professional ranks.”

“Jordan has dealt with the toughest things life has to offer,” said manager Rick Mirigian. “He made a promise to his sister before she passed away that he would be world champion. He is one step closer to that goal after every National Tournament and winning in dominating fashion including the 2024 Olympic trials, something only Jose Ramirez has done, this young man is ready.”

One of the most decorated amateur boxers, 18-year-old Jordan Fuentes is ready to begin his journey as a professional boxer. From Fresno, California, he began boxing at only eight-years-old when his dad, Joey Funetes, showed him the sweet science. At age 13, he won his first-ever national title, and since then he has stacked his walls with trophies and medals he has collected in his 10-years as an amateur – a total of seven national titles, four state titles and a handful of regional accolades. In December 2023, Fuentes won in the Paris Olympic Trials, defeating Steven Navarro in the finals. He will make his professional debut on the Serhii Bohachuk vs. Vergil Ortiz Jr. event on Saturday, Aug. 10 at the Michelob ULTRA Arena in Las Vegas.

LAS VEGAS (July 26, 2024): An explosive televised undercard has been assembled for the thunderous main event clash of the division’s scariest monsters in the super welterweight division. The undefeated knockout king Vergil Ortiz Jr. (21-0, 21 KOs) of Grand Prairie, Texas will challenge WBC Interim Super Welterweight World Champion of Vinitza, Ukraine, Serhii “El Flaco” Bohachuk (24-1, 23 KOs) for Bohachuk’s world title. As chief support to the knockout main event, the undefeated and No. 2 WBC-ranked Charles “Bad News” Conwell (19-0, 14 KOs) will return after a successful Golden Boy debut on the Haney vs. Garcia undercard where he secured a sixth-round technical knockout victory over Nathaniel Gallimore. An amateur standout, former Team USA member and ranked No.1 by the WBA, Sims Jr. was last seen in May 2023 defeating Botirzhon Akhmedov via majority decision. Perez was last seen winning an upset and handing Olympian and former World Champion Joseph “JoJo” Diaz a split decision loss this past February 2024.

Braekhus seeks a return to world championship glory following a controversially scored majority draw with Terri Harper on October 7, 2023 in Sheffield, England. Kozin won her world titles with a split-decision victory over Hannah Rankin on November 18, 2023 in Manchester, United Kingdom. The fight is in co-promotion with 360 Promotions.

The co-main event of the prelims, undefeated Korean-American middleweight prospect Eric Priest (13-0, 8 KOs) will face a soon-to-be-announced opponent in a 10-round medley. Also making a quick return in a four-round lightweight match, Santa Ana, Calif.’s Johnny “Sugarcane” Cañas (4-0, 2 KOs) is fighting Tampa, Florida’s Carlos Otero (2-1-1).

Making his professional debut and opening the YouTube stream, Team USA member Jordan Fuentes of Fresno, California will hope to make a statement in a four-round bantamweight fight against a soon-to-be announced opponent. Fuentes had successfully made it to the Olympic Trials in Lafayette, Louisiana last December 2023 having entered as a wild card and the youngest in the tournament, and was able to beat the top three seeds to win it all. Also a part of the preliminary card, undefeated prospect Figo “La Maquina” Ramirez (6-0, 3 KOs) will participate in a six-round bantamweight fight against a soon-to-be-announced fighter.

“I want to show my fans great fights. I am interested in fighting the best boxers not the easy boxers. If it is not interesting to me, then it is not interesting to people.”

“All eyes are on Bohachuk right now. We’re not looking past him at all. We have a big test ahead with him and we are not worried about anyone else.”

“I think my power carries over to 154. I don’t think I’m some devastating knockout puncher. I never saw myself like that. I just pick the right shots, and I place them at the right place, at the right time. That’s all it is.”

WORLD TITLE CONTENDER VERGIL ORTIZ JR. AND GOLDEN BOY PROMOTIONS SIGN MULTI-YEAR CONTRACT EXTENSION

LOS ANGELES, Calif. (July 11, 2024) – Golden Boy Promotions announced today the multi-year contract extension of undefeated super welterweight world title contender Vergil Ortiz Jr. (21-0, 21 KOs). Ortiz Jr. has been signed to Golden Boy since his promotional debut in 2016 and has become one of the biggest knockout monsters of the sport, boasting a 100-percent knockout ratio. The 26-year-old is on the cusp of world championship stardom, with a fight scheduled against Serhii Bohackuk for the WBC Interim Super Welterweight World Championship on Saturday, Aug. 10 at the Michelob ULTRA Arena at Mandalay Bay Resort and Casino in Las Vegas.

“Me resigning with Golden Boy is a show of loyalty, and it shows the mutual confidence we both have in each other that we will both bring each other success and to the top,” said Vergil Ortiz Jr. “I want to thank Golden Boy and everyone there for believing in me, my dad for always making sure I’m at the top of my game, my manager Rick for getting this deal done, and to all my supporters who enter this new chapter of my career with me.”

“There is not a more dedicated fighter in the sport of boxing than Vergil Ortiz, Jr, and we are incredibly proud to re-sign him at such an important time – right before his first shot at a world title,” said Chairman and CEO of Golden Boy Promotions Oscar De La Hoya. “With this signing, Vergil is sending a clear message about his commitment and loyalty to Golden Boy and we will reward that commitment by working shoulder-to-shoulder with him as he becomes the next superstar of boxing.”

“I’m very happy my son Vergil has resigned with Golden Boy; I feel this is the right place and the people to make all his dreams come true,” said father and trainer Vergil Ortiz Sr. “I am very proud of my son. It’s been a long journey and a lot of people have had a major impact on my son’s life. I want to thank Hector Beltran, Dr. Bautista, Rosario Solis, Robert Garcia, Wayne Maddox, my mother, and Rick Mirigian for all they have done for us. I also want to give a special thanks to Gene Vivero and Vivero Boxing Gym. Without him, Vergil and I wouldn’t be where we are today. As you look down from above, Gene, I hope we are always making you proud. Lastly, I would like to say thank you to my son Vergil Jr. for never giving up on his dreams.”

“Let’s make it simple, Golden Boy showed Vergil how special he was the only way you can: by writing a big check and going all in on him with one of the biggest contracts in the sport,” said manager Rick Mirigian. “He was treated like Lebron James as a free agent and the Lakers ponied up when it counted. Golden Boy believes in him and when your promoter believes there is nothing more special and motivating. Vergil will be a World Champion on August 10th and one of the greats in the years to come and the future of the sport.”

The undefeated knockout monster Vergil Ortiz Jr. is one of the most dangerous fighters of this generation. His love for boxing began at five years old when he was introduced to the sport by his father. As a decorated amateur, he is a seven-time national champion and winner of the 2013 Junior Olympics with an impressive record of 140-20. He went on to sign with Golden Boy in 2016 and made his professional debut on July 30 at the Fantasy Springs Resort Casino with a first-round knockout of Julio Rodas. Since then, he has built an enviable fighter resume that reflects 100-percent knockouts, and has made some of the world’s toughest contenders fold to his tremendous power including Antonio “Relentless” Orozco, Brad “King” Solomon, Maurice “Mighty Mo” Hooker and Michael McKinson to name a few.

Standard and VIP tickets can be purchased at AXS.com or GoldenBoyPromotions.com.“This fight is the fight that solidifies me as a top 154 fighter,” said Vergil Ortiz, Jr. “This is also the fight that shows everyone that nothing has changed: I am still one of the best fighters in the world.”One of the most dangerous fighters of this boxing era, the undefeated world title contender Vergil Ortiz Jr. boasts a 100-percent knockout ratio. He broke into the super welterweight division with a first-round knockout of Ghanaian warrior Fredrick Lawson this past January 6 and followed it up with a first-round stoppage of Thomas Dulorme on April 27. A native of Grand Prairie, Texas, his string of 21 knockouts began since his professional debut in 2016 and has made some of the world’s toughest contenders fold to his tremendous power including Antonio “Relentless” Orozco, Brad “King” Solomon, Maurice “Mighty Mo” Hooker and Michael McKinson to name a few.“I fought hard to win the WBC Interim World Title and now I am looking to defend this title for my goal of becoming the ultimate World Champion,” said Serhii Bohachuk. “I know Vergil Ortiz, he is a very tough competitor, but on August 10 I will show that I am the best in the division.”Serhii Bohachuk’s resume of knockouts speaks for itself, his grit and determination landing him the career opportunity of a lifetime to face Argentinian former world champion Brian Mendoza for the interim WBC Super Welterweight World Championship on March 30. Bohachuk’s career-best performance to date, he scored a wide-points victory over the world contender. The highly decorated Ukrainian fighter’s only blemish comes from an eight-round TKO he suffered against Brandon Adams in March 2021 which he has avenged with a string five brutal knockout victories.“Talk about bombs away…with 44 knockouts in 45 victories between Vergil and Bohachuk, there is almost no way this fight is going the distance,” said Chairman and CEO of Golden Boy Promotions Oscar De La Hoya. “Golden Boy doesn’t just build champions, we build stars — and when Vergil emerges victorious, he will be the next superstar of boxing.”“Serhii has gone through so much, enduring the invasion of his country while waiting for his visa to come back to the United States,” said Founder and Managing Director of 360 Promotions Tom Loeffler. “He received special permission as a professional athlete to continue his boxing career. He won the WBC Interim World Title and now looks forward to defending it while fighting for Ukraine in the ring. The event will be one of the biggest boxing shows yet in the Central Valley, and will take place live from the Save Mart Center in Fresno, California, and broadcast worldwide on DAZN.

“I am really excited to be fighting for the first time in Fresno. I spent some time here during my recovery, and I absolutely loved it here.”

OSCAR DE LA HOYA, CHAIRMAN AND CEO OF GOLDEN BOY PROMOTIONS:

With these two stars appearing atop the kind of stacked card the Golden Boy delivers on each and every show, April 27 is going to be a night to remember.”

“Another huge night of boxing for our subscribers at DAZN,” said Alfie Sharman, VP of DAZN. “From April 20 through June 1, we have an unmatched run of shows around the world from Haney vs. Garcia, to this Ramirez and Ortiz doubleheader to the return of Canelo to the platform in an all-Mexican affair for the ages. “Rances Barthelemy is already one of Cuba’s most accomplished fighters and he has a great opportunity for a signature victory that will put him in a position to be his country’s first three-division world champion,” said Tom Brown, President of TGB Promotions. “I expect him to put on a great performance and leave with his hand raised on April 27.”

“This is the biggest fight card to hit the #559; this is the Golden Boy Debut of Jose Ramirez and Vergil Ortiz Jr.’s first appearance in the Central Valley,” said Rick Mirigian, manager to Ramirez and Ortiz Jr. “It’s truly an honor to help promote this event.”

THE UNDEFEATED VERGIL ORTIZ JR. TO MAKE DEBUT IN SUPER WELTERWEIGHT DIVISION AGAINST GHANA’S FREDRICK LAWSON

LAS VEGAS, NEVADA (November 2, 2023): Undefeated knockout sensation Vergil Ortiz, Jr. (19-0, 19 KOs) of Grand Prairie, Texas will make his grand return to the ring in a new division against Accra, Ghana’s Fredrick “General Okunka” Lawson (30-3, 22 KOs). The super welterweight fight is scheduled for 12-rounds and is set to take place at The Theater at Virgin Hotels Las Vegas on January 6, 2024. The exclusive fight night will be broadcast worldwide on DAZN

Tickets for Ortiz Jr. vs. Lawson go on sale Thursday, November 9, 2023 at 10:00 a.m. PT and are priced at $200, $150, $100 and $50 plus applicable fees. A limited amount of Golden Boy VIP Experience tickets will also be available for purchase with exclusive merchandise and fight night upgrades included. Standard and VIP tickets can be purchased at AXS.com or GoldenBoyPromotions.com.

With a 100-percent knockout ratio, Vergil Ortiz, Jr. is ready to conquer the super welterweight division. He was last seen in August of 2022 in an entertaining fight in front of a hometown Texan crowd against Michael McKinson that added rounds to his boxing portfolio and a seventh-round KO. The 25-year-old has had an exciting career since his 2016 debut, knocking out contenders like Antonio “Relentless” Orozco, Brad “King” Solomon, and Maurice “Mighty Mo” Hooker.

“Headlining my first card in Las Vegas after over a year of inactivity is just what I needed,” said Vergil Ortiz Jr. “I am very motivated to put on a great show like I always do, and to show everyone that I’m still here.”

Born in Accra, Ghana, Fredrick Lawson has proven he can rise up as the underdog and is resilient to power through the toughest opponents. He was last seen in April 2023 on the DAZN undercard of Zepeda vs. Arboleda against Estevan Villalobos, who he was able to defeat via unanimous decision. Training out of Chicago, Illinois, he has secured a handful of regional titles throughout his career, including the IBF International Welterweight Title and the WBC International Silver Welterweight Title.

“I treasure this great opportunity that Golden Boy presented me with, and as much as I respect Vergil Ortiz, this Ghanaian Warrior will get his hand raised on January 6,” said Fredrick Lawson. “I look forward to fighting on DAZN again, now the premier outlet for boxing throughout the world. Thank you to Oscar De La Hoya and my manager Jacob Zwennes for making this great fight. Boxing fans will really like this fight because both Ortiz and I are action fighters.”

“Vergil is ready to come back stronger than ever to become a world champion in this sport,” said Golden Boy Promotions Chairman and CEO Oscar De La Hoya. “He’s got the heart and dedication, and is on a mission to be a world title holder. I know he will make a statement in this new division against the powerful Ghanaian warrior Fredrick Lawson. Golden Boy will be starting 2024 with a bang, and we’re proud to have Vergil launch our action-packed boxing schedule for the year.”

“It’s great to have Vergil fighting again on DAZN,” said Jared Kass, SVP North America. “Vergil is an outstanding talent and a danger to anyone in the super welterweight division. 2024 promises to be another huge year for the platform and I can’t wait to see Vergil kick it all off January 6, only on DAZN.”

Information on the undercard will be announced in the upcoming weeks.

In a spectacular unification bout, the WBA, WBC and Ring Magazine World Champion Marlen Esparza (13-1, 1 KOs) of Houston, Texas will face WBO World Champion of Buenos Aires, Argentina Gabriela Alaniz (14-0, 6 KOs) in a 10-round flyweight fight. Opening the broadcast with an eight-round super welterweight fight, Romanian-American prospect Eric Tudor (8-0, 6 KOs) of Fort Lauderdale, Florida will square off against Reggie Harris, Jr. (7-3, 3 KOs) of Ann Arbor, Michigan.

Featured in the prelims, Tristan Kalkreuth (10-1, 7 KOs) of Duncanville, Texas will fight Joe Jones (13-8,10 KOs) of Jersey City, New Jersey in a six-round cruiserweight match. Opening fight night with six-rounds of light heavyweight action, Houston’s Darius “DFG” Fulghum (5-0, 5 KOs) will fight Jeremiah Curtright (2-1, 2 KOs) of Saint Charles, Missouri.

Here is what the fighters had to say:

FLOYD “KID AUSTIN” SCHOFIELD, WBA INTERNATIONAL LIGHTWEIGHT TITLEHOLDER:

“It’s a blessing to be the main event, everybody is coming up to me now ‘oh, now you’re the main event’ so you know, I gotta do what I got to do. Hearing that, I know I have to make a statement. I was training just as hard as if I was the main event from the beginning, so Saturday night I am going to make a statement.

“It’s super exciting to be fighting in San Antonio because it’s like now, all my fans don’t have an excuse, they can come to this fight. So I’d like to see everyone who said they were coming. I have a big fan base in Austin and in San Antonio, and to combine them for the fight is going to be massive support and love, the energy is going to be amazing.

“I just want to give a big thanks to Oscar De La Hoya, Golden Boy, Bernard Hopkins, my dad, my team, Chris, Cameron Davies, and all the fans. Thank you for not canceling this fight and my best wishes to Virgil Ortiz. Make sure you tune in on Saturday. It’s gonna be a good show.”

HASKELL “HACKMAN” RHODES, LIGHTWEIGHT FIGHTER:

“Just like Schofield, we’ve been training just like we’re the main event to compete against the whole card to steal the show. But I do want to say thanks to Golden Boy and everyone for keeping the show going and also to Floyd for taking the fight with me to put me in this position.

“I know he’s super talented, but I’ve seen a lot like him, and I’m used to styles like his, so I bring the experience and I’m ready. I know I have learned some lessons that have helped me straighten out my life because there are some fights I shouldn’t have lost. So this fight is going to get a fire from me that he’s not expecting. The fighter you have seen in the ring before is not the same, I am a whole different person.”

MARLEN ESPARZA, WBA, WBC, AND RING MAGAZINE WORLD CHAMPION:

“I’m really excited to be here. First of all, I want to thank God and I want to thank Golden Boy for making sure that the show goes on. I hope Vergil has a quick and healthy recovery. But I’m excited to get back in the ring. I’ve defended my belts before and I’m really looking forward to getting this WBO belt. My goal is to become undisputed and this is what I need to do to get there. I understand I’m also facing a world champion. So, we’re taking this very seriously. Me and my coach, my manager James Cooper, we’ve worked really hard on making sure that we have everything done correctly. And I’m just waiting and ready to get the job done.

“I feel like it’s like any other challenge that I faced in boxing. It’s always on to the next, to the next and trying to show that I am one of the best female boxers in boxing. I’ve done everything there is to do and the WBO belt is just what’s next. I take everything extremely seriously. Boxing has been my life. And it’s everything I focus on and this is a life goal. And I’m not going to leave the ring without it.”

GABRIELA ALANIZ, WBO WORLD CHAMPION:

“I’m really happy to be here and I am ready to show everyone the kind of fighter I am. I am very excited to be able to defend my world title and be able to fight for two more world titles.

“Making history as a female boxer in Argentina is a big motivator for me. I know that I’m in a foreign land, and I’m here as a visitor, but in the ring, I feel like I’m a local, because I am where I love to be. I love to be in the ring fighting.”

JOSEPH “JOJO” DIAZ, FORMER LIGHTWEIGHT WORLD CHAMPION:

“It’s a tragic situation, what’s going on with Virgil Ortiz and in his career, my condolences to him and his family. I’m gonna be praying for you brother and I wish you a quick recovery so you can come back to the ring and give the fans what they want to see and see you back in the ring.

“Also want to thank Oscar De La Hoya and Golden Boy Promotions, for saving the show and saving this card. All of us fighters on the undercard have been working day in and day out to showcase our skills and showcase our abilities and show what we can do inside their ring. So for them to save the show for us means a lot to us.

“I’ve been training very, very hard. My career has had a lot of ups and downs, but I’ve been very focused and I feel very, very determined. I cut a lot of things out of my life that weren’t beneficial and right now I’m at my A-game. I’m really going to put on a great show, especially now that I’m the co-main event. I’m really going to whack some ass now.”

ERIC TUDOR, SUPER WELTERWEIGHT PROSPECT:
“I’m very excited to be a part of another great card. I want to thank God and Golden Boy for the opportunity. I want to thank my team for getting me ready. And, you know, I’m just very excited and looking forward to putting on another great fight Saturday, so make sure you tune in early.”

DARIUS FULGHUM, LIGHT HEAVYWEIGHT PROSPECT:

“This is a huge opportunity to be on this card. Bernard gave a great speech; I was listening to it and it really inspired me and motivated me. We got to pivot. We make dozens of decisions in the ring and in life all the time. And so when a moment comes, we’ve got to seize it. So that’s what I’m here to do, to steal the show. And I hope everybody watching tunes in. We’re gonna put on a great show with everybody on this card.”

TRISTAN KALKREUTH, CRUISERWEIGHT PROSPECT:

“I just want to thank you all, all the fans and my team, my coaches. I’m just very humbled and grateful to be here and just following up on what Bernard said, as a fighter we have a simple job. It is to prepare, train, and fight. I just hope everybody tunes in to this fight. All Glory to God.”

OSCAR DE LA HOYA, CHAIRMAN AND CEO OF GOLDEN BOY PROMOTIONS:

“The health of the fighter is the most important. We are all in Vergil’s corner, wishing him the very best possible recovery and will wait for him with open arms and ready for when he wishes to come back to the ring. Vergil, with the help of his dad, has the potential to be a world champion.

“Thank you to DAZN and all our partners for helping us make sure the show goes on. This has opened up the opportunity for Golden Boy’s top prospect, Floyd Schofield, to accelerate his profile by headlining in his home state of Texas. Floyd will face Haskell Rhodes in a 10-round fight for the WBA International title.”

BERNARD HOPKINS, HALL OF FAMER AND GOLDEN BOY PARTNER:

“We lost the main event, of course we’re not happy about it, you’re not happy about it, but his health is most important. But also what’s important is that the fighters to my right and to my left see that adjustments have to be made. It’s no different than life, no different than in the ring, things happen that you can’t control.

“So the fighters here, the future champions, are watching. They might not say anything to us, but they are watching to see how we react as promoters. See how we pivot, to how we adjust, just like in the ring. Sometimes you gotta make those adjustments, the adjustments that need to be made on the promoter-side to save the show.

“And so again, this is an opportunity for those who were waiting to be showcased, for those who want to be the main event to get the chance to be the star of the night, of the show. So this is an opportunity for everybody that’s up on stage, that’s going to fight, to learn as a lesson that first, health is more important. Your safety is more important.”
