Brandon Moore won a five-round technical decision over previously undefeated Stanley Wright in a scheduled 10-roind heavyweight bout athe Turning Stone Resort Casino in Verona, New York.

In round two, Moore dropped Wright with two chopping rights to the side of the head. In roundthree, Moore was cut around the right eye from a headbutt. In round four, the ringside doctor deemed that cut was in a bad spot and stopped the fight and they went to the scorecards.

Moore, 256.8 lbs of Lakeland, FL won by scores of 50-44 and 49-45 twice and is now 18-1. Wright, 279.1 lbs of Charlotte, NC is 14-1.

Crews-Dezurn Decisions Ortiz; Retains Super Middleweight Titles

Franchon Crews-Dezurn retained the WBA/WBC Super Middleweight titles with a 10-round majority decision over upstart Citlallii Ortiz.

There were many wild exchanges with Ortiz landing some good shots. Dezurn fugh through swollen left eye. The fight was close with Dezurn getting the verdict by scores of 98-92, 96-94 and 95-95.

Crews-Dezurn, 166.4 lbs of Norfolk, VA is now 10-2. Ortiz, 167.9 lbs of Coachella Valley, CA is 4-2.

Pagan Decisions Pagan

Joshua Pagan won a 10-round unanimous decision over James Bernadin in a super lightweight bout.

Pagan, 137.1 lbs of Grand Rapids, Michigan won by scores of 99-91 twice and 98-92 and is now 13-0. Bernadin, 137.1 lbs of Lancaster, PA iw 13-3-1.

Toussaint Upsets Hicks

Wendy Toussaint won a 10-round majority decision over previously undefeated Joseph Hicks Jr. in a junior middleweight bout.

Toussaint came out and landed several shots that rocked Hicks multiple times over the first three rounds.

Toussaint, 153.2 lbs of Huntington, NY won by scores of 97-93, 96-94 and 95-95 and is now 17-3. Hicks, 154 lbs of Grand Rapids, MI is 12-1.

Lozada Destroys Vargas

Ashleyann Lozada Obliterated Carmen Vargas in the opening seconds of their six-round super bantamweight fight.

Lozada came out swinging and connecting with flush punches that rocked Vargas. Vargas stumbled across the ring and ate several more punches and the bout was stopped at 27 seconds,

Lozada, 121.3 lbs of San Juan, PR is 2-0 with one knockout. Vargas, 122 lbs of Houston is 5-4-1.

Huntington, New York (November 25, 2024) – Joe DeGuardia’s Star Boxing Rockin’ Fights 49 delivered an action packed and hotly contested evening of bouts this past Saturday at The Paramount. The sold out show was packed with fans and non-stop thrilling boxing. Star Boxing once again continued its practice of delivering the best and most consistent boxing series in New York and #49 has fans already lining up to get tickets for Rockin’ Fights 50 in 2025.

RESULTS:

Wendy “The Haitian Fire” Touissant (now 16-3-0, 7 KOs), got back to his winning ways and did not disappoint in his return to The Paramount Saturday night. Touissant, the hometown Huntington favorite, continued to display the talent and physical fitness that makes him an intriguing ascending contender in the boxing world. Touissant stayed poised throughout the bout, which went the distance, leaning on his patient gameplan to deal with capable Argentinian challenger, Brian “El Capitan” Arregui (now 10-5-0, 7 KOs). Touissant’s training paid off as he was able to secure the victory by majority decision. The scores were: 80-72 by Tony Paolillo; 79-73 by Steve Weisfeld and a shocking 76-76 by Kevin Morgan.

In a special featured bout, 22-year old Italian-American prospect and newest Star Boxing fighter, Micky Scala (now 11-0-0 6 KOs), showed talent and tenacity in remaining undefeated in his Rockin’ Fights debut. In a competitive bout, Scala relied on his reach and fast combinations to score throughout the fight, ultimately earning a victory by unanimous decision (60-54, 59-55, 60-54) over Luis “Conrazon De Oro” Caraballo Ramos of Puerto Rico. (now 7-6-1 7 KO’s).

David “King David” Malul (now 2-0, 2KOs), once again had The Paramount crowd energized and mesmerized for his second professional fight. Malul gave the raucous crowd another memorable moment when he uncorked three devastatingly powerful blows to the head of his opponent, Zachary “Mr. Sippi Babi” Davis to secure the third round knockout.

In a rough and tough back and forth battle, Harley “Heavy Hands” Burke (now 9-0-0, 7 KOs) defeated Tevin Terrance by a very close unanimous decision (58-55, 58-55, 57-56), remaining undefeated. Following an early first round knockdown of Burke by Terrance’s acclaimed left hook, Burke settled in and the rest of the fight was an exciting and close matchup. The two combatants exchanged blows all fight, with neither fighter seeming to gain the upper hand. Ultimately, the judges ruled for Burke, keeping the Irish American’s perfect record unscathed.

Albanian pride was soaring as John “The Warrior” Gjini (now 13-0-0, 12 KOs) dissected his opponent, Luis Porozo (now 18-12-0, 9 KOs), in a dominating TKO win. Porozo came into the bout as the much more seasoned fighter, amassing 29 career fights to Gjini’s 12. Porozo took the first round but it was Gjini thereafter as his fast hands and quickness broke down the tough Ecuadorian native. Gjini secured the fourth round referee stoppage and TKO victory.

The opening bout of this stacked card saw a gritty bout between Long Island native Frank “Magic” Monaco (now 2-0-1) and Victor “El Patron” Pradis (now 2-2-1). The fight started the night with a good matchup. Monaco and Pradis were fighting in close quarters and neither fighter gave the other much room to breathe. Pradis seemed intent on attacking Monaco’s body throughout the fight, while Monaco stayed poised waiting for his openings. In the ultimate tossup decision, the judges scored it a split draw (38-38, 39-37, 37-39).

Toussaint, 15-2, 7 KO, was perhaps most impressive in his controversial technical split decision loss to hometown favorite IBF/USBA Champ Ardreal Holmes Jr. Toussaint appeared to be winning the match and breaking down Holmes, but the fight went to the scorecards due to an accidental head butt.  The split decision was heavily booed by even the local Detroit partisan crowd. Toussaint’s last fight was an impressive third-round stoppage win on Joe DeGuardia’s famous Rockin’ Fights series at the Paramount in Huntington, New York.

Koopman, 13-0, 9 KO, will be fighting in front of his hometown fans and is the South African super welterweight champion. Koopman is considered to be one of the top prospects on the African continent.

Huntington, New York – [October 29, 2023] – Fans and fighters alike are still buzzing from the unbelievable action that unfolded at last night’s sold out “Rockin’ Fights 45,” presented by Joe DeGuardia’s Star Boxing at The Paramount in Huntington, New York.  This unforgettable night of pugilistic prowess had fans on the edge of their seats, and it’s safe to say that the stars aligned for an electrifying showcase of the sweet science.

In the main event, ALEX “EL TORO” VARGAS (now 14-0 5 KO’s, Bellport, NY) went toe to toe with JULIO “EL PANTERA” ROSA (now 8-4 4 KO’s, Orlando, FL) for the vacant WBA Continental USA Super Lightweight Title. Out of the gate, in a shock to the sold-out crowd, Rosa landed a perfectly thrown clean straight right hand that sent the undefeated Suffolk County Police Officer Alex Vargas to the canvas for the first time in his professional career. Facing such an adversity for the first time, Vargas responded well, centering himself and fighting his style of fight. While some rounds were close, and at times the fight became more of a battle of wills, Vargas settled in and edged out the close rounds with technical skills, fighting his way back to earn a unanimous decision victory and the new WBA Continental USA Champion. (78-73 x2, 77-74).

In the WBA Continental USA Super Welterweight championship co-main event, WENDY “HAITIAN FIRE” TOUSSAINT (now 15-2 7 KO’s, Huntington, NY) wasted no time getting to work as he staggered JERMONE “QUADRUPLE J” JONES JR (now 7-2 6 KO’s, Phoenix, AZ), in the first thirty seconds, before unloading an onslaught of punches. Both men would settle in, but Toussaint was a man on a mission, dictating the action and controlling the tempo of the fight. A Toussaint one-two combination at the end of the first round sent Jones to the canvas for the first time. Then with 29 seconds left in the third round, and Jones pinned in the corner, Toussaint dropped Jones for the second time. With just 2 seconds left in the third round, and another Toussaint onslaught, Referee Pat Sullivan stepped in to call a stop to the fight, declaring Wendy Toussaint the winner by TKO3, and the new WBA Continental USA Champion.

The undercard was electric from start to finish. In a 4-round super featherweight bout, Star Boxing’s ERICK “EL CANETE” PEREZ (now 2-0, Passaic, NJ) was cruising against KESLAIRE “X MAN” EXAVIER (now 0-1, Las Vegas, NV) when a picture-perfect check left hook landed clean on the button dropping Perez for the first time in his professional career. The sensational highlight reel blow landed Perez on the floor with 45 seconds left in the fourth and final round. However, the Mexican warrior showed he has the heart of a champion. To the amazement of the crowd, and everyone watching around the world on StarBoxing.TV and Swerve.TV, Perez somehow rose from the canvas and continued the fight as if nothing happened, launching a barrage of punches. The fight went to the cards and Perez won the unanimous decision victory (38-37 x3).

The 4-round light heavyweight bout between LOU “IL MARTELLO” MAIETTA (now 3-4-1, Bronx, NY) and FRANK “MAGIC” MONACO (now 1-0, Glen Cove, NY) quite literally brought the house down. The foundation of The Paramount shook as fans cheered on their fighter. Maietta opened the action right out of the gate, landing a right hand that caught the attention of Monaco. Monaco gathered himself and returned the favor as the fight continued to heat up. Each fighter had their moments in each round. Monaco landed his best punch in the third round when a solid right hand tagged Maietta. The fight went the distance and the extremely close fight went to the scorecards with Monaco edging out the victory with a majority decision. (39-37 x2 Monaco, 38-38 Draw). 

DOMINIC BREEN (now 0-3, Staten Island, NY) and JOSEPH “GI JOE” ELZEY (now 1-0, Bronx, NY) put on an exciting display of wills, as the first round closed with a mele from both Elzey and Breen eating punches to dish out their own. Late in the second an overhand right from Elzey snapped Breen’s head back, followed by an overhand left and right that drew Breen back into the ropes, which referee Al LoBianco determined were holding up the hurt Breen, and declared it a knockdown. Ten seconds into the third, Elzey landed another overhand right causing a highlight reel knockdown and followed it up another power combination causing referee LoBianco to stop the bout at the 1:50 mark of the third round.

Finally in the opening bout of the evening, EMMANUEL ETIENNE (now 4-1 2 KO’s, Uniondale, NY) settled any questions with OLUWALE “HOLY WAR ANGEL” BAMGBOSE (now 0-2, Bronx, NY) in their 4-round cruiserweight rematch, as Etienne dropped Bamgbose with 18 seconds left in the second round with a vicious body shot followed by a devastating uppercut. Bamgbose was unable to continue due to a torn bicep. Etienne earned the win by TKO2.

Star Boxing, the longest running and most active promoter in New York once again solidified its reputation of thrilling action fights with “Rockin’ Fights 45.” From the moment the opening bell rang, fight fans were treated to an evening of pulse-pounding, edge-of-your-seat action that left no doubt as to why this series is so highly acclaimed.

The anticipation continues to grow as Star Boxing is pleased to announce that the 45th edition of the critically acclaimed fight series will feature a WBA Continental USA doubleheader. Along with the already announced WBA Continental USA main event between ALEX “EL TORO” VARGAS (13-0 5 KO’s, Bellport, NY) and JULIO “EL PANTERA” ROSA (8-3 4 KO’s, Orlando, FL), the co-main event between WENDY “HAITIAN FIRE” TOUSSAINT (14-2 6 KO’s, Huntington, NY) and JERMONE “QUADRUPLE J” JONES JR. (7-1 6 KO’s, Phoenix, AZ) will now also challenge for the WBA Continental USA Championship in the super welterweight division.  

Toussaint-Jones is a real scrappy fight on paper. Toussaint is a kind person by nature, but once the gloves are laced, a different beast rears its head. Most will remember the gory scene from Toussaint’s last bout against Ardreal Holmes Jr. this past June on DAZN. A clash of heads caused a four-inch-long gash as blood gushed from Toussaint’s forehead. Most people would have recoiled to the confines of the corner and safety of the doctor; however, Toussaint is not most people. Toussaint convinced the doctor to allow the fight to continue, and exploded from the corner with a fifteen second barrage. Eventually the cut was determined to be so deep and severe that the referee stopped the fight due to the cut and contrary to Toussaint’s wishes, forced the fight to go to the scorecards with a technical decision, in a fight where Toussaint won over even Holmes’ hometown fans.  

Entering Saturday night, Toussaint is invigorated, knowing he can compete with anyone in the division, and believes this is the first step in showcasing that, “Opportunity knocked once, but they couldn’t steal my determination,” said Toussaint. “On October 28th, I’ll rise to claim what’s rightfully mine. After that victory, I’ll look forward to getting back in the ring as I continue my journey to reach my goal: a world championship.” 

Jermone James Jones Jr., aptly dubbed “Quadruple J,” has other plans. The Arizona native carries two sledgehammers for hands, evidenced by his 87% knockout ratio. While Jones knows he is fighting in front of a sellout crowd, he is not allowing the moment to overwhelm him, “Fighting for a title is a one of my favorite parts to the fight game,” said Jermone Jones. “Being able to look back at my accolades and adding to it is something I’m looking forward to!”

Wendy Toussaint certainly showed the boxing world what he was made of in his last fight. On June 3rd, Wendy could hardly see the bright lights of Detroit’s Little Caesars Arena (home of the Detroit Pistons and Detroit Red Wings) as his face was covered in crimson blood from a gnarly three-inch gash on his forehead caused by a head clash with hometown favorite Ardreal Holmes Jr. Wendy was seemingly on his way to victory prior to the clash and was breaking down Holmes’ will and local fan support.  With the blood streaming down his face, Wendy begged the ringside doctor allow the action to continue, to the absolute awe and respect of the Detroit (Holmes) fans in attendance and the world watching on DAZN. Eventually the cut was determined to be too severe, and the fight was stopped by the referee in the 8th round. The bout went to the score cards in which Toussaint was robbed of a career defining victory, dropping a highly questionable split decision. Clearly, Toussaint returns home on October 28th seeking vengeance.

Detroit, Michigan (June 3, 2023) – Star Boxing has been busy in the midwest this week. Starting earlier in the week, Star Boxing CEO JOE DEGUARDIA attended the 38th annual IBF Convention in Chicago, where he spent time with the IBF boxing community and advocated on behalf of Star Boxing’s roster of fighters with the IBF.

Tonight, in keeping with the midwest, IBF theme, Star Boxing super welterweight, WENDY “HAITIAN FIRE” TOUSSAINT (14-1 6KO’s) will fight for the vacant IBF-USBA Super Welterweight Championship against rangy undefeated southpaw, ARDREAL HOLMES JR. (13-0 5KO’s) over 10 rounds at the Little Caesars Arena in Detroit, Michigan. The fight has major world rating implications for the winner.

Claressa Shields won a 10-round unanimous decision over Maricela Cornejo to retain the Undisputed Middleweight Title at The Little Caesars Arena in Detroit.

Shields dominated the fight and was very aggressive throughout the bout and landed several hard rights that stopped Cornejo in her tracks. Cornejo was not very aggressive and took a lot of shots in her defensive posture.

Shields landed 124 of 485 punches. Cornejo was 32 of 307.

Shields, 159.6 lbs of Flint, MI won by scores of 100-89 and 100-90 twice and is now 14-0. Cornejo, 155 lbs of Los Angeles is 16-5.

“I feel great,” said Shields post-victory. “I was landing my shots. I won every round like I knew I could. I went for the knockout how many times this fight? Maricela is tough. She did a great job. Height doesn’t matter and power doesn’t matter either. It’s all about the skills and will and heart, and I always have more than the other girls.”

“Stay smart and not get hit with her big right hand,” she said of her strategy. “Hit bigger to the body and check her to the head. I knew I could win. Straight right for the money. When I would hit her harder, she would take off. I led off with the right too many times, so I will work on that when we get back to the gym. Maricela is super tough. She was in shape and able to take the shots and able to get away from them. It was a great fight. I can’t wait to go home and watch it and see what I can work on.”

“I’m good. I felt fine,” Cornejo said. “Obviously there is so much more I could work on. I want to see the fight again and see the mistakes that I’ve done just to improve on. I think I held my ground and I know I caught her with some good shots and I just need to work on much more to be able to continue those rights I know I landed on her.

“I’m not happy with the loss, I’m just disappointed,” she continued. “I need to just watch it. It’s intense the way she comes forward. I would have done better being more assertive going forward and not going straight back. That’s something I’ve worked on a lot.”

Ardreal Holmes Wins Technical Split Decision over Toussaint

Ardreal Holmes won a technical split decision over Wendy Toussaint in a bout that was stopped in round eight of a scheduled 10-round super welterweight bout.

In round four, Toussaint was deducted a point for hitting behind the head.

Holmes boxed well by using his height, while Toussaint was coming on late by pressuring the taller Holmes.

In round eight, the two clashed heads and the forehead of Toussaint immediately began to gush blood. The fight was allowed to continue, but only briefly as the blood continued to shoot out of the forehead and the fight went to the scorecards at 1:54.

Holmes, 153.4 lbs if Flint, MI won by scores o 77-74 and 76-75 while a third card went to Toussaint by a 77-74 tally.

Holmes is now 14-0. Toussaint, 149.8 lbs of Huntington, NY is 14-2.

“I was expecting a tough fight. Just wasn’t in the shape we wanted to be in, but no excuses. I got the job done,” said Holmes post-fight. “I felt like I didn’t catch my second wind until the seventh or eighth round. That’s when I felt like the fight was really changing. I felt like I took the earlier rounds and he started coming on late.”

Holmes said the fast pace Toussaint kept throughout the fight was unexpected. “He actually surprised me,” admitted Holmes. “Watching film, he usually slows in the fourth or fifth round. That’s what I thought he was going to do, but he shocked me. My plan was to come on halfway through the fight and I thought I was going to close it out at the end. I thought the decision was fair. It was four-four (in rounds), but the point (deduction) did it. He was out of gas the last quarter of the fight.”

“I didn’t lose that fight,” said a disappointed Toussaint. “It was my plan to come out fast and outwork him and it worked. I had him hurt. I don’t agree with the point deduction, and the judges got it wrong.”

Hicks Decisions Todd

Joseph Hicks Jr. remained undefeated with an eight-round unanimous decision over Antonio Todd in a middleweight bout.

Hicks had Todd in trouble several times during the fight, and although he could not get the stoppage, he was dominant in winning the decision.

Hicks, 159.4 lbs of Grand Rapids, MI won by scores of 80-72 on all cards and is now 7-0. Todd, 158.2 lbs of Atlanta is 14-8.

“I didn’t expect Todd to be that awkward,” said Hicks afterwards. “I knew he was tough, but he was awkward. He did a lot of unorthodox things. He dropped his head after he jabbed. He switched back after his jab, and he got the counterpunch. I was trying to time him, but he was flinching back.”

“It means everything to be a part of this fight card and this event,” Hicks continued. “I’m very grateful to Claressa and Salita Promotions. The GWOAT, Claressa, she’s going to win tonight. I’m very grateful to her, because without her, this opportunity is not here for me. I’m ready for whoever they give me next. I’m going back to the drawing board. We’re going to fix a lot of things, get sharper and be better in my next fight.”

“He was the better man tonight. Hicks is a good fighter. We knew that coming in. We knew he was a good fighter; captain of the USA Boxing Team. We knew he was a good fighter the whole time. Sometimes you come up short. I wasn’t hurt like I was about to go down, but he hit me in the back of the head a couple of times, headbutted a couple times, but nothing major. I’m okay.”

The event marks the return of big-time boxing to Detroit live from Little Caesars Arena and streaming on DAZN in the U.S. and Canada. The action will also include Grand Rapids, Michigan’s undefeated Joseph Hicks taking on Atlanta-based Antonio Todd over eight rounds for the WBC Americas Silver Middleweight Championship.

The 28-year-old Holmes Jr. (13-0, 5 KOs), known in the ring as “Bossman,” is a 6’ 2” southpaw and 2016 U.S. Olympic alternate coming off a pair of impressive professional victories. In March of last year, he scored a nationally televised unanimous decision over Chicago’s once-beaten Vernon Brown (then 13-1) and followed it up with a nationally televised split-decision over then undefeated New Yorker Ismael Villarreal (then 12-0) in February of this year.

Looking to close in on a title shot soon, Holmes says an impressive performance against the formidable Toussaint is crucial to his future plans.

Originally from Haiti, Huntington, New York’s Toussaint (14-1, 6 KOs), known in the ring as “Haitian Fire,” stands 5? 10½?. The 31-year-old has served as one of the main sparring partners for former WBO World Light Heavyweight Champion, Joe Smith Jr. and was last seen scoring a near-shutout unanimous decision over then 15-4-1 Asinia Byfield in June of last year.

Toussaint left his native Haiti at the age of 10 and first moved to French Guiana where he began to box. After joining a local team, and traveling to different countries to fight, he and his family made the move to the United States seeking better opportunity and competition. A win over Holmes Jr., will provide those opportunities.

“I’m really excited for this fight,” said Toussaint. “Winning this fight is going to propel me where I want to go, which is the top of the sport. I’m really happy with my team and promoter Joe DeGuardia of Star Boxing for putting me in this position.”

The 29-year-old Hicks (6-0, 5 KOs) started boxing at 19 and became a standout amateur before entering the pro ranks. He was set to captain the U.S. Olympic Team at the 2020 summer games, before the COVID-19 pandemic delayed the proceedings. By the time the games were back on, the IOC’s formula for picking fighters in his weight class left him on the outside looking in. Undeterred, Hicks has shined as a pro, including already scoring two wins this year with triumphs over Bilal Quintyne in February and Noah Kidd in April.

 If Hicks is to continue his march up the ranks, he first must get past Todd (14-7, 8 KOs), who has already scored one huge upset in Michigan, as he took a surprise majority 10-round decision over then world-ranked Huge Centeno Jr., in January of last year in Dearborn.

Artur Beterbiev scored an emphatic second round stoppage over Joe Smith Jr. to defend his IBF/WBC and add the WBO Light Heavyweight titles at The Hulu Theater at Madison Square Garden in New York City.

At the end of round one, Beterbiev landed a short right to the side of the head that sent Smith down to a knee. In round two, it was another right that put Smith down. Seconds later, Beterbiev landed a hard combination for a third knockdown. Beterbiev finished off the fight when he landed two uppercuts and a right that wobbled Smith to the ropes and the fight was stopped at 2:19

Beterbiev of Montreal, CAN is 18-0 with 18 knockouts. Smith if Long Island, NY is 28-4.

Ramirez Knocks Out Nova in 5

Robeisy Ramirez stopped previously undefeated Abraham Nova in round five of their 10-round featherweight bout.

In round five, Ramirez landed a big left hand that put Nova flat on his back and the fight was over at 2:20.

Ramirez of Ciemfugos, CUB is 10-1 with six knockouts. Nova of Albany, NY is 21-1.

Bruce Carrington stopped Adrian Leyva after round five of their six-round featherweight bout.

Leyva was cut over his left eye in round five, and the bout was just stopped just as the sixth round was about to commence.

Carrington of Brooklyn, NY is 4-0 with three knockouts. Leyva of Guantanamo, CUB is 3-3-1.

Jahi Tucker remained undefeated with fourth round stoppage over D’Andre Smith in a welterweight contest.

The time was 2:27 for Tucker of Deer Park, NY who is now8-0 with five knockouts. Smith of Atlanta, GA is 10-2.

Floyd Diaz remained undefeated with a six-round unanimous decision over previously undefeated Danil Plantonovschi in a junior featherweight bout.

Diaz of Las Vegas won by scores of 60-54 twice and 59-55 and is now 5-0. Plantonovschi of Brooklyn is 4-1.

Troy Isley stopped Donte Stubbs in the sixth and final round of their middleweight fight.

At the end of of round four, Isley dropped Stubbs with a perfect right to the jaw. In round six, Isley landed a perfect right that sent Stubbs to the canvas. Stubbs wobbled to his feet and the fight was stopped at

Isley of Alexandria, VA is 6-0 with four knockouts. Stubbs of Riverside, CA is 6-6.

Wendy Toussaint won a eight-round unanimous decision over Asinia Byfield in a junior middleweight fight.

Toussaint of Huntington, NY won by scores of 79-73 on all cards and is now 14-1. Byfield of Reading, ENG is 15-5-1.

Jahyae Brown won a six-round unanimous decision over Keane McMahon in a junior middleweight bout.

Brown of Schenectady, NY won by scores of 60-54 and 58-56 twice and is now 11-0. McMahon of Dyblin, IRE is 7-3.

Star Boxing proudly announces two of its super welterweight prospects will be on the undercard in separate matches. Haitian Born, Long Island residing, WENDY “HAITIAN FIRE” TOUSSAINT (Huntington, NY, 13-1 6KO’s) makes his return to the bright lights of MSG as he faces off with the United Kingdom’s ASINIA “DGOHST” BYFIELD (15-4-1 7KO’S) in what should be an exciting crossroads bout. Toussaint appeared on ESPN defeating Isiah Jones by unanimous decision in The Bubble, on the undercard of Joe Smith Jr.’s emphatic KO victory over Eleider Alvarez. Since then, Toussaint took on heralded contender Charles Conwell on Showtime, taking the #4 world rated super welterweight into deep water, before falling short. Most recently Toussaint scored a first round TKO victory at Star Boxing’s “Rockin’ Fights” in March.

Byfield is also no stranger to the bright lights as evidenced when he took #11 world rated super welterweight Ted Cheesman the distance at Copper Box Arena in London. Coming off a second round TKO win last week (May 22), Byfield will look to carry the momentum into the June 18 showdown against Toussaint. The two will meet at the Hulu Theater with the hope of victory, and bigger fight opportunities to come.

In the other super welterweight bout, undefeated prospect, JAHYAE “GOLDEN CHILD” BROWN (Schenectady, NY 10-0 8KO’s) will face off with Ireland’s KEANE “THE ICEMAN” MCMAHON (Dublin, Ireland 7-2 4KO’s). Brown, who is an explosive, 22 year old standout, will be making his debut under the Star Boxing banner and hopes to make it one to remember. He defeated Dormedes Potes (then 12-2-1 9KO’s) to secure the ABF Super Welterweight Title in April 2021 and now looks to remain undefeated as he faces his toughest test to date against Keane McMahon.

McMahon is a six-time Irish National Champion. McMahon is coming off of an impressive first round KO victory in Germany, and will fulfill his lifelong dream of fighting at the “Mecca of Boxing”, NY’s Madison Square Garden. The Brown-McMahon fight is a six-round bout.

Long Island, New York (March 20, 2022) — A sold out Paramount was draped in Ukrainian flags from the rafters to ringside as a prideful OLEH “UKRAINE PITBULL” DOVHUN (now 14-0 5KO’s) made his first defense of his NABA Super Bantamweight title against gritty Belgium bruiser GERAM ELOYAN in an absolutely grueling 10 round main event.

Dovhun garnered the energy of his throngs of Ukraine supporters, starting fast and strong dictating the action. His impressive work rate continued through the first three rounds when a clash of heads caused a cut over his left brow. The fourth round saw the fight turn into a grueling bloody battle of wills. Dovhun’s work rate continued to impress but Eloyan was finding a home for his left hook. In the 6th round, Eloyan buzzed Dovhun with a hard left, but Dovhun returned fire with an eight punch combination. Eloyan (now 7-3 6 KO’s) came on strong in the back half of the battle but it would prove to be too little too late as Dovhun, maintaining an extraordinary work-rate, defended his title and took home a split decision by scores of 96-94 (Dovhun), 97-93 (Eloyan), 97-93 (Dovhun).

In the 8 round co feature, TYRONE “PRETTY BOY” JAMES (now 12-0 9KO’s) returned to the Paramount after nearly 3 years out of the ring caused by the COIVD-19 hiatus and Tommy John surgery on his elbow due to a torn UCL. James opposed New Haven’ veteran JIMMY “QUIET STORM” WILLIAMS (now 18-7-2 6KO’s) for the vacant ABO North American Super Welterweight Title.

Williams, fresh off his upset over former world champ Yuri Foreman, controlled the pace early forcing James to fight off his back foot. In the second round, a James counter right impressed the crowd even though Williams continued to press the action. James appeared to be shaking off the ring rust while working off the back foot and began to find his timing. Midway through the fourth round James landed a picture perfect counter right over a lingering jab of Williams, blasting Williams into the ropes. Williams was hurt, and James unleashed in the corner, throwing power punches with blazing speed and accuracy in an impressive onslaught. The barrage of punches forced the referee to stop the fight as a wobbling Williams tried to stay upright on very shaky legs. With the TKO victory James was crowned the new ABO North American Champion.

WENDY “HAITIAN FIRE” TOUSSAINT (now 13-1 6KO’s) wasted no time getting back to his winning ways, eating up TRAVIS GAMBARDELLA (now 7-2-2 3KO’s). Toussaint landed a hard right midway through the first round, and then unleashed a vicious seven punch combination while tracking Gambardella into the ropes before landing the final blow causing the referee to step in and stop the action.

Brooklyn’s KAMRON HUMPHREY (now 3-0 2KO’s) bested Bronx native LOUIS MAIETTA (now 1-1-1) via a 2nd round TKO in the scheduled 4 round bout.

ISAAH FLAHERTY (now 3-0 2KO’s) and ANGELO THOMPSON (now 0-1) went to battle over their 4 round super welterweight contest with Flaherty coming out on top by unanimous decision in a fan friendly, entertaining scrap.

Charles Conwell remained undefeated by stopping Wendy Toussaint in round nine of their scheduled 10-round junior middleweight bout at The Mohegan Sun Arena in Uncasville, Connecticut.

Conwell caught Toussaint with a vicious uppercut that may have broken Toussaint’s nose in the 9th round that made him take a knee for the 10-count at 2:42.

Conwell, 154 lbs of Cleveland is now 13-0 with 10 knockouts. Toussaint, 153 lbs of Huntington, NY is 12-1.

“I think this was a good fight for my first fight back, getting the ring rust off, but at the end of the day we got the job done,” said Conwell, a 2016 U.S. Olympian. “The game plan going in was to break him down round by round, go to the body until we got him to where we wanted him. I give my performance a C-plus, there were a lot of things I could have done better. I’m going to get back in the gym and continue to work hard to become the champion I know I can be. I’ll fight anybody next, but I really want an ex-world champion or ex-title challenger so I can get the championship rounds under my belt. Then it’s on to a world title.”

Bocachica stops Flaz in 1

Janelson Figueroa Bocachica stopped Nicklaus Flaz in round one of their scheduled eight-round welterweight bout.

In the opening round, Bocachica dropped Flaz with a perfect left hook to the chin. Later in the round, it was another hard left hook that put Flaz down again. Three more hard punches later, Flaz went down, and the fight was stopped at 2:43.

Bocachica, 146 1/2 lbs of Detroit is now 16-0 with 11 knockouts. Flaz, 146 1/2 lbs of Puerto Rico is 9-2.

“I came in and they said he wanted to brawl, and as soon as he did, the fight was over,” said Bocachica, a Detroit native, who like Flaz is of Puerto Rican descent. “The game plan was to showcase my boxing. I didn’t get to do that but I’m happy either way. I’m not shy calling out guys, but I’m trying to be respectful to the best in my division. I’m here, so bring them on. One-hundred forty-seven [pounds] is mine. It was easier than I thought, I’m not going to lie. But I didn’t think it was going to be hard.”

Lee takes out Williams in 1st

Brandun Lee remained perfect by dismantling Jimmy Williams in the opening round their eight-round welterweight bout.

In round one. Lee dropped Williams with a combination that was followed up by a left. Seconds later it was a right hand that sent Williams to the canvas. Then it was a huge right that sent Williams viciously down over the bottrom rope, and the fight was stopped at 1:34.

Lee, 144 lbs of La Quinta, CA is 20-0 with 18 knockouts. Williams, 143 3/4 lbs of New Haven, CT is 16-4-2.

“I’m blessed with the natural power and that’s what the fans saw from me tonight – I’m here to entertain the fans and seek and destroy,” said the 21-year-old Lee. “The game plan was to go in there and do what I do best, which is to destruct anything that is in my way. When I fought last fall on SHOWTIME for the first time in Texas I felt like we rushed it too much. And back in March on SHOWTIME I felt like we waited too long. So I think this fight was perfect. We hit it right on the money, not too fast and not too slow.”

UNCASVILLE, CONN. – October 6, 2020 – Exciting 154-pound prospects Charles Conwell and Wendy Toussaint both made weight a day beforeheir main event showdown set for Wednesday, October 7, live on SHOWTIME (9 p.m. ET/PT) from Mohegan Sun Arena in Uncasville, Conn., in the first ShoBox: The New Generation telecast since March.

A decorated amateur and U.S. representative at the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio, the 22-year-old Conwell (12-0, 9 KOs) hails from Cleveland, Ohio, and will make his second ShoBox appearance when he takes on up-and-coming Toussaint (12-0, 5 KOs) in a 10-round super welterweight contest.

The ShoBox event will open with two eight-round welterweight showdowns as Detroit’s Janelson Figueroa Bocachica (15-0, 10 KOs) takes on fellow Puerto Rico native Nicklaus Flaz (9-1, 7 KOs) and hard-hitting Brandun Lee (19-0, 17 KOs) returns to ShoBox in the telecast opener against Jimmy Williams (16-3-2, 5 KOs).

Barry Tompkins will call the action from ringside with boxing historian Steve Farhood and former world champion Raul Marquez serving as expert analysts. The executive producer is Gordon Hall with Richard Gaughan producing and Rick Phillips directing.

“Since my last ShoBox appearance three years ago, I’ve matured a lot as a fighter. I’m more comfortable inside the ring and going longer rounds. I’ve developed as an all-around fighter. A lot of challenges have been thrown my way but it’s nothing that I can’t overcome. I’ve been able to adjust, get over it and keep moving up.

“I think I need a couple more fights, a couple more good wins under my belt against some formidable opponents, and looking good doing it, and I’ll be considered a top-10 type of contender. I think I need two more fights.

“I had a fight scheduled in April right before the shutdown, which got cancelled. So, it’s just been constant training for me. Not necessarily going hard in the gym, but just staying active in the gym and staying in shape so when the call comes, you’re prepared for it whenever they give you a date.

“I know that I’m facing an undefeated, 12-0 fighter. He fought in the bubble, I know that. He’s a slim, tall type of guy who has length, and he’s athletic. I’ve just seen one of his fights. He has a little awkwardness and he throws some loopy shots that I need to be aware of.

“With the Patrick Day fight, I’ve just learned to live with it and try to stay positive. Keep positive people and positive energy around me. That’s all I can ever do, stay looking forward and try not to dwell on the past. It’s a very difficult thing for me but you can’t think about it in this sport. You have to continue to be aggressive. My first fight after that tragedy, once somebody punches you in the face it’s not too hard to punch them back – it’s natural. In training, I was a little timid at first but once somebody is in there trying to punch you in the face, it’s easy to be aggressive.

“I’ve always been an aggressive fighter. Being a shorter guy, you fight taller guys and you always have to be more aggressive. As I get in there and work with my coaches, I’ve developed different skills – different punches, different defensive moves, different angles, different tricks on the inside – so I’ve always been aggressive and willing to fight on the inside.”

“My conditioning is great right now. I’m always in shape and I’m very strong right now. I’m ready because this is a great opportunity for me. It’s difficult to get a fight right now with the Coronavirus so when this fight came, I took it immediately. I fought once in the bubble in Las Vegas already and I think that’s a little bit of an advantage for me. I think I already got one fight with no fans and I’m used to it – so maybe that’s a small advantage and the fact that I’ve been active is good as well.

“I sparred with [Sergiy] Derevyanchenko in camp and that was a great experience. He throws a lot of punches and sparring with him was different than anything I’ve experienced. It was very difficult, but I gave him a lot of work, a lot of pressure, and I think it will really help me a lot in this fight and going forward in my career.

“Conwell is a great fighter but I’m a very strong fighter as well, so I’m not going to be frustrated by anything he does. I’m going to stay relaxed, box and let everything come together because like I said, this is not my first time getting in the ring. Boxing is about staying relaxed no matter what your opponent brings. You have to be ready for anything. Conwell is a great fighter, all respect to him, but I’m coming to fight.

“Every time I have a fight, I don’t watch my opponent a whole lot but I do watch them a little bit. He’s a very strong fighter but every fight is different, you can be in top shape for one fight and be a different fighter in your next one. He’s a strong fighter, he likes to attack the body, but I don’t think I’ll have a big problem on my hands.

“Boxing is all mental. Sometimes, when you look at things on paper they are different than when you actually get in the ring and start fighting. I know that Conwell is going to be a strong fighter but is he stronger than the guys I’ve faced in sparring? I don’t know. I have to wait to get in the ring and see what he brings. You never know. But I’m very confident in myself and I’m not intimidated at all.”

“I got a good six weeks of training in for this fight. I’ve been in camp with Charles Conwell this entire time. I’ve been going to Ohio and he’s come over to Detroit. I’ve also been in Tony Harrison’s camp for the past two weeks. I’ve gotten amazing work from both of those guys.

“I’m definitely a big puncher but you’ve got to know how to set it up. You can’t rush it, just trust that the knockout is going to come. I get knockouts with punches that I wasn’t even expecting to knock people out but then they don’t get back up. Boxing is about timing, it’s art. It’s not about brute strength. I’ve knocked people out with a jab, but my right hand seems to put everybody out. The better my opponents are, the better I am. As good as he looks, I know I’m going to be even better.

“When I went pro, I knew that I hurt people in the amateurs with big gloves and headgear, so imagine what I could do with the little ones? But I had to learn how to set my opponents up and pick my shots and get an opening. I couldn’t just go straight forward. Sometimes you have to let them come to you. It’s all about ring control.

“It won’t be a problem fighting without a crowd. I’ll still have my fans watching on TV and my coach, which is my dad, will still be there in my corner. I’m comfortable with the situation.

“I beat Brandun Lee in the amateurs but I don’t have any relationship with him today. I don’t really see much of what he’s doing, with him being out in California. I know he’s on this card so when I see him at the fight, I want to let him know that I want to fight him after this. I wish him well against his opponent but I know I’m going to do my thing and take care of my business. I upset him in the amateurs, and I hope I can see him in the pros too. If he wants to do it, we can do it. I’m ready for big names. I’m ready for Virgil Ortiz. I’m ready for Keith Thurman. Everybody around me knows that I’m so ready for bigger fights and bigger opponents.

“All I know is that Nicklaus Flaz better be ready because I had a super hard training camp and we’ve been working hard. I want to put on a great show for something that I’ve been training so hard for. I know Puerto Rico is going to be watching this one, and I know all of his fans are going to be mine after this fight.”

“I was in the same camp as Jeison Rosario and I sparred with him a couple of times. I’ve been in touch with him since the Charlo fight and he’s doing better now. He’s eager to get back to work but they told him to get some rest. Sparring with Rosario, a world champion, was a great experience. It was really tough but I did my best to manage.

“I’m an aggressive fighter. I like to fight on the inside, come straight forward and do damage. I’m a better fighter than since I was in the World Series of Boxing. My defense and my ring IQ are way better. I used to just go in blindly looking to land punches, now I go in more conscious and with better defense. My punches are much more accurate now.

“I don’t know much about Bocachica. I let my trainer figure him out but what I know is that he’s a really tough fighter, undefeated, and he can punch. I’ve never been down before so I can definitely take a punch.

“This is Puerto Rico vs. Puerto Rico. That’s a great motivation for me. I got to take him out. He says he’s going to knock me out, so I want to see how he plans to do that. We can brawl if he wants. I want to see him try to knock me out. It’s going to be fireworks.

“I’ve worked a lot on my conditioning and pacing myself since my lone defeat. I’m a lot smarter than I was then. Not every fighter is going to be knocked out, so I worked on that and I fixed it. I’m in much better shape and I’m ready to fight 12 rounds if I have to, even though the fight is only scheduled for eight. I know I’ll be throwing a lot of punches until the end. My punch output will be high as always.”

“I was on the last fight on ShoBox in March, and we didn’t have a crowd at that one either. In a way, I feel like I’ve already been there, done that. I know what to expect without a crowd. Nothing has changed as far as my training. It’s been a little tough to find sparring but other than that, boxing-wise, the pandemic hasn’t affected me much.

“This will be the biggest guy I’ve ever fought. He’s a natural 147 and 154-pounder, so he is a much bigger fighter. I’m a 140-pounder. I think he’ll be the best fighter I’ve faced too. I feel that way because once upon a time he was a top-15 prospect in the rankings and he’s a much bigger, much longer guy than anybody I’ve faced.

“Hopefully this fight gives me more rounds than I’ve been able to get in the past. He’s only been knocked out once and he’s gone 10 rounds before. Hopefully we can get the rounds in because I need it. The only positive that comes from facing guys that you knock out in the first round is building up that confidence. But I feel like I’ve already built up my confidence so it’s time to start bringing in some real fighters and making some noise.

“I learned something from my last fight. Before the fight, I said I have to pick my shots more and be more calm, but in that case, I could have just gone in there and blown the guy away in the first round. I learned that you have to be able to make a quick choice on whether you want to take the guy out later or take him out now. I took him out later because I wanted to go more rounds. I expected the fight to go longer than what it did. We wanted the later rounds and the longer minutes but that was a mistake. If I hurt Jimmy Williams in the first round, I’m definitely going to get him out of there.

“I remember my fight against Bocachica in the amateurs was a hell of a fight. We had the entire arena watching us. It was a close fight. It could have gone either way. We were 15 at the time. I don’t really look at it like I need to avenge that loss in the pros. I’m looking at what’s ahead of me, not behind me. That was the amateurs but if he steps up to the plate, I’ll step up to the plate as well.

“My last fight against Camilo Prieto was a step-up and now Jimmy Williams is an even bigger step-up. After this fight, we need another step-up. Each fight, we need to slowly progress into the top ten. At the end of the day, I’m just a fighter. I will listen to my team and my promoter and whoever they pick for me to fight, I’m definitely going to step up to the plate and do what I do best.”

“I’m a local guy and I’ve fought many times at Mohegan Sun, so it will be weird not having support in the arena but I know they will all be tuning in on SHOWTIME. It is what it is. I’m excited with fans or without fans, it doesn’t make a difference.

“I watched a little bit of tape on my opponent. I know he’s a young prospect, he had a great amateur career. But this is the pro game. I know he hasn’t been tested yet, he’s sparred with some of the greatest fighters in the world but he will get tested on Wednesday night. We’re going to see what Brandun Lee is made of.

“If you go and watch Brandun’s fights, the guys he faced didn’t come to fight. They came to lay down, they weren’t punching back and Brandun had enough time to set up his punches and he was able to do what he wanted to in the ring. I don’t discredit the guys he fought, he’s still got talent, but I’ve been tested. I’ve been hit hard. I’ve been in the ring with some great fighters already. This fight will definitely go past the first round. He better be prepared to put the rounds in with me.

“In 2008, my mom was murdered and it changed my whole life. I opted to leave school that year and enter the NFL draft. A lot of people thought I was crazy because I still had a year of eligibility, but I was projected to get drafted in the fifth to seventh round. It didn’t work out my way but I still got some calls and tried out for a few teams in camp. But my mom’s spirit brought me back to the ring. I had a lot of frustration and anger because it is an unsolved case, and boxing was my bread and butter from the beginning so getting back in the ring was the natural thing to do.

“My mother’s death motivated me to stay on the right path. My father passed away from cancer, and my parents both raised me to be somebody great in life. Her death motivated me. Her death never sat right with me. She didn’t die from a natural cause, somebody strangled her and put her there. That made me go hard in life. I woke up and told myself I would be somebody. I had to make her proud and I’m making her proud now. That anger fuels me in the ring because I feel like I bring her back to life. I know she went out fighting and every time I get in the ring, I fight for her.”

WENDY “THE HAITIAN FIRE” TOUSSAINT (12-0 5KO’s) is preparing for his third bout of ‘covid19 crazed’ 2020 when he faces undefeated heralded prospect CHARLES “BAD NEWS” CONWELL (12-0 9KO’S) on Wednesday, October 7 in a 10-round super welterweight main event on Shobox.

Toussaint currently resides in Huntington, NY, training out of Academy of Boxing. The 28-year-old prospect is well-respected in the New York boxing scene for his work ethic, and overall boxing ability, so much so, that he was tapped as the lead sparring partner for Long Island’s “Common Man” and Star Boxing stablemate, JOE “The Beast” SMITH JR. (26-3 21KO’s) ahead of his demolition of Elieder “Storm” Alvarez in their WBO World Title Eliminator back in August.

Toussaint took on Jermaine Corley on February 28 at “Rockin’ Fights” 38 where he wasted no time digging to the body with a vicious left hand that sent Corley to the canvas early in the second round. In August, on the undercard of the Smith Jr-Alvarez WBO Title Eliminator, Toussaint took on Isiah Jones at The Bubble in Las Vegas, where he dominated to a wide unanimous decision. Turning to October 7, a victory would catapult Toussaint into the upper level of a hot super welterweight division.

Toussaint was born in Haiti and later moved to French Guiana where he first laced up a pair of boxing gloves. “My cousin asked me if I wanted to train, so I thought we were going to work out” said Toussaint. “When we showed up at the gym, it turned out she meant train at a boxing gym.” Toussaint found success in the sweet science, fighting for a local team in French Guiana winning local titles. Finally, Toussaint’s mother made the call to move his family to the United States for better opportunities and quality of life.

Outside of the ring Toussaint is a school bus driver for the Deer Park School district. When he is not training, or driving his route, Toussaint is also a volunteer firefighter. Work ethic isn’t a choice for Wendy, it’s a lifestyle, “I always want to keep my mind busy, I always want to keep working no matter if it is in the gym, or outside of the gym.”

Toussaint turned professional in 2013 on Star Boxing’s acclaimed “Rockin’ Fights” series at The Paramount (Long Island, NY), and has not looked back. NEW YORK – September 18, 2020 – ShoBox: The New Generation returns for the first time since March with a four-fight card headlined by exciting, undefeated super welterweight prospects Charles Conwell and Wendy Toussaint in a 10-round main-event bout on Wednesday, October 7 live on SHOWTIME ® (9 p.m. ET/PT) from the Mohegan Sun Casino in Uncasville, Conn.

The four-fight telecast will feature eight prospects who boast a combined record of 109-4-3, including six boxers who have yet to taste defeat at the professional level. The last ShoBox event was held March 13 in Hinckley, Minn., and was one of the final live sporting events to take place before the COVID-19 pandemic shut down the sports world for several months.

A decorated amateur and U.S. representative at the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio, the 22-year-old Conwell (12-0, 9 KOs) hails from Cleveland, Ohio, and will make his second ShoBox appearance – and first in nearly three years – when he takes on up-and-coming Toussaint (12-0, 5 KOs) at 154 pounds.

The co-feature is another bout of unbeatens as Conwell’s half-brother Isaiah Steen (14-0, 11 KOs) matches up against Kalvin Henderson (12-0-1, 8 KOs) in an eight-round super middleweight bout. The ShoBox event will open with two eight-round welterweight showdowns as Detroit’s Janelson Bocachica (15-0, 10 KOs) takes on fellow Puerto Rico native Nicklaus Flaz (9-1, 7 KOs) and hard-hitting Brandun Lee (19-0, 17 KOs) returns to ShoBox in the telecast opener against Jimmy Williams (16-3-2, 5 KOs).

Charles Conwell vs. Wendy Toussaint – 10-round Super Welterweight Main Event

Known for his lightning quick fast hands and power, the rising prospect Conwell is currently ranked No. 9 by the IBF in one of boxing’s deepest divisions at 154 pounds led by Jermell Charlo, Jeison Rosario, Tony Harrison, Erickson Lubin, Julian Williams, Terrell Gausha and Jarrett Hurd.

Conwell was 116-14 as an amateur and was the National Golden Gloves Champion in 2015. In his last fight in February, Conwell scored a fifth-round stoppage over Ramses Agaton. He is co-promoted by Tony Holden of Holden Productions and Lou DiBella of DiBella Entertainment. He is managed by Dave McWater at Split-T Management.

Fighting in front of his hometown fans in Cleveland in his ShoBox debut in 2017, Conwell went the six-round distance for the first time in his young career beating a game Roque “Rocky” Zapata with an impressive unanimous decision.

“I am happy to be back on ShoBox, and I am going to put in a good performance and do what I do best,” said Conwell. “My opponent is undefeated, and he will come to win, but I think that I am just better overall and all around. I am a very smart boxer with fast hands and power. When people see me, they will see Aaron Pryor, Mike Tyson and Andre Ward rolled up into one! I am happy to be headlining ShoBox and being able to show my talent to the whole world.”

Nicknamed “Haitian Fire”, Toussaint, 28, was born in Haiti and currently trains in Huntington, New York where eight of his 12 pro fights have taken place. He is promoted by Hall of Fame New York promoter Joe DeGuardia’s Star Boxing.

Toussaint fled Haiti for France in 2010 following the devastating earthquake and currently works as a firefighter on Long Island. He is the main sparring partner of No. 1-ranked (WBO) light heavyweight world title contender Joe Smith Jr. Toussaint has won his last five of seven fights by knockout. Fighting on the undercard of the Eleider Alvarez-Joe Smith card August 22 in Las Vegas, Toussaint won an eight-round decision over Isiah Jones.

“I would like to thank my trainer Frankie Globuschutz, my promoter Joe DeGuardia and Star Boxing for this great opportunity to shine in a ShoBox main event,” Toussaint said. “I am ready to fight. I have always been ready to fight. Nothing changes for me, and I am bringing the Haitian Fire.”

Isaiah Steen vs. Kalvin Henderson – 8-round Super Middleweight Co-Feature

Like his half-brother Conwell, the 24-year-old Steen of Cleveland also had a successful amateur career with a record of 85-15. Fighting on the same card as Conwell back in February, Steen needed less than a round to stop Kenneth Council in Hammond, Ind., in his last fight. Steen is co-promoted by Holden and DiBella and managed by McWater.

“This is my first fight on TV so it’s going to be a big one,” said Steen. “This is a big stage to show everybody what I am coming for and I am very excited to be fighting on SHOWTIME. This is a major step-up fight. I am just going to keep to my game plan and keep my distance. It’s amazing to be able to be on a television card with my brother.”

Born in Fort Worth, Texas, Henderson currently resides and trains out of Fayetteville, Ark., where he was a six-time Arkansas state champion in the amateurs. Following high school, Henderson got a full-ride music scholarship to the University of Arkansas as a percussionist graduating with his bachelor’s degree in Music Education in 2012. The 30-year-old Henderson is promoted by Marshall Kauffman’s Kings Promotions.

“I am ready to get back to what I do great,” said Henderson, who is married with four children and a fifth on the way. “My opponent is undefeated, but on October 7th, he will have his hands full. I am excited to finally showcase by skill-set on a national level as the co-main event.”

Janelson Bocachica vs. Nicklaus Flaz – 8-round Welterweight Bout

A native of Puerto Rico and fighting out of Detroit, Mich., Bocachica is just 21 years old and already has four years of pro experience. He began boxing at age eight, won four consecutive Ringside Championships (2011-14), the National PAL Championships and the 2015 Detroit Golden Gloves. He boasts an amateur record of 55-5. He is trained by his father, Nelson Figueroa. Bocachica is managed by McWater of Split T-Management and promoted by King’s Promotions.

“I am fighting another Puerto Rican fighter which will surely produce fireworks and an exciting, all-action fight,” Bocachica said. “He is a power puncher and a brawler. He seems to be very confident, and I like fighting guys like that. If he wants a brawl, he will get a brawl, but if he wants to box, I will outbox him. I am versatile like that.”

Puerto Rico’s Flaz is part of current WBA and IBF 154-pound World Champion Jesion Rosario’s camp under the guidance of Sampson Lewkowicz of Sampson Boxing. Flaz has knocked out his last two opponents and competed in two 10-round bouts during his pro career, which has included six wins against fighters who had winning records.

“It’s a great opportunity for me to showcase my skills,” Flaz said. “I know he’s an undefeated guy and a good opponent but I’m going to put some punching power on him. You can expect me to come in and be explosive. It’s going to be a great fight.”

Brandun Lee vs. Jimmy Williams – 8-round Welterweight Bout

Just 21 years old, the knockout artist Lee from La Quinta, Calif., has KO’d all but two of his opponents (89.5 percent), including 11 in the first round, four in the second and two in the third. The third-year pro is making his third ShoBox appearance. In March, Lee scored an impressive third-round TKO over 33-year-old challenger Camilo Prieto. This is Lee’s third fight of 2020 as he knocked out Miguel Zamudio in a non-televised January 17 bout in Sloan, Iowa.

Lee had a decorated amateur career with an estimated record of 196-5. He was the 2015 U.S. Junior National Champion, taking home the gold medal at 145 pounds. With lightning quick hands that pack power, the exciting Lee has sparred with Mikey Garcia, Devin Haney, Mauricio Herrera, Timothy Bradley Jr., Thomas Dulorme, to name a few.

“I am ready to go,” said Lee, a full-time college student who is trained by his father Bobby Lee and managed by Cameron Dunkin of D&D Boxing. “I was supposed to fight on September 19th, and now I have an extra three weeks of training, so that will be great for me. My opponent is bigger and has fought at higher weights, and he was ranked in the top-15. This is a step up and it is exactly what I need for my career. I am looking forward to being back on ShoBox and I will come to perform. The audience wants knockouts, and that is what I am here for.”

A pro since 2013, Williams is a former college football standout who has yet to fight in 2020. Williams grew up in Plainfield, N.J., before moving to New Haven, Conn., and played wide receiver at Southern Connecticut State University.

Promoted by Jimmy Burchfield of CES Boxing, the 34-year-old Williams has battled adversity as his father passed away from cancer, and his mother was murdered in what is still an unsolved case.

International Boxing Hall of Famer Barry Tompkins will call the action from ringside with fellow Hall of Famer and boxing historian Steve Farhood and former world champion Raul Marquez serving as expert analysts. Joe Smith Jr. scored an emphatic 9th round stoppage over Eleider Alvarez in a scheduled 12-round light heavyweight bout at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas

In round four, Alvarez began to bleed from the nose. Smith dominated most of the action as he landed hard power shots throughout the contest.

In round nine, Smith landed a big right to the jaw that was followed up by a left that sent Alvarez through the ropes. He could not beat the count at 24 seconds.

Smith, 174.9 lbs of Long Island, NY is now 26-3 with 21 knockouts. Alvarez, 174.6 lbs of Montreal is 25-2.

Smith said, “Coming into this camp, I knew I had to work on my boxing. I wanted to be sharp, throw a lot of straight punches. I watched his fight with {Sergey} Kovalev, and Kovalev kind of set the way to beat him. So we watched that and worked off of it. I knew coming in today I had to box a little more because he’s got that great right hand. He caught me with it a couple times, but I can take a punch, too.
 
“Every time he hit me, I wanted to come and stop him in his tracks, and I did that. I stuck to my game plan, and it was a great fight.
 
“I feel this one is a big one. I really needed it. I wanted to prove I’m not just a knockout guy. I proved my boxing ability, too, and I showed that tonight.”

Brant Stops Kopylenko after 5!

Former middleweight belt-holder Rob Brant stopped Vitaliy Kopylenko after round five of their scheduled 10-round middleweight fight.

In round two, Kopylenko began to swell under his left eye. The eye got worse and was almost closed that forced the fight to be stopped after the 5th frame.

Brant, 161.1 lbs of St. Paul, MN is 26-2 with 18 knockouts. Kopylenko, lbs of The Ukraine is 28-3.

Brant said, “My punch output was high, but I felt like I threw a lot of quality shots, especially with a veteran like Vitaliy. I’m not going to try and pronounce his last name out of respect, but he’s a crafty veteran. He’s been around for a long time.
 
“I spent a lot of time in camp with them. It’s been a three-month camp with them. Between the advice they have given me and being around Terence Crawford and Jamel Herring, it teaches you to relax a little more.”

Rodriguez stops Laureano in 1

Julian Rodriguez stopped Anthony Laureano in the opening round of their scheduled 10-junior welterweight bout featuring undefeated fighters.

In round one, Rodriguez landed a three-punch combination that put Laureano down. Rodriguez put Laureano down again with a hard right. Rodriguez sealed the deal as he landed four unanswered blows, and the fight was stopped as Laureano fell for a the 3rd time at 2:50.

Rodriguez, 141.5 lbs of Hasbrouck Heights, NJ is 20-0 with 13 knockouts. Laureano, 145.9 of East Hartford, CT is 13-1.

“Previous to the shoulder injury, I was more of a brawler,” Rodriguez said. “I was coming in with bigger shots, but once I noticed the arm wasn’t holding up in that way, it forced me to focus more on my footwork, using my jab, and more of a different style. Now I feel like I have all the tools.”

Collard Stops Williams in 2

Clay Collard racked up his 5th win of 2020 by stopping Maurice Williams in round two of a scheduled eight-round middleweight bout.

In round two, Collard dropped Williams with a straight right. Later in round, Collard landed a hard combination that made referee Tony Weeks stop the fight at 1:54.

Collard, 159.8 lbs of Burley, ID is 9-2-3 with four knockouts. Williams, 158.2 lbs of Oklahoma City, OK is 7-2.

“I’m just a fighter. I like getting out there as often as possible and entertaining the fans. I appreciate all the love and support from the fans, and I enjoy putting on a show for them,” Collard said. “Listen, I’ll fight as often as possible. I love fighting on these Top Rank shows, and I look forward to the next one. This has been quite the ride.”

Duke Ragan made a successful pro debut with a opening round stoppage over Luis Alvarado in a featherweight bout.

In round one, Ragan dropped Alvarado with a hard right hand. Alvarado got to his feet but the fight was stopped at 1:54.

Ragan, 125.5 lbs of Cincinnati, OH is 1-0 with one knockout. Alvarado, 126.8 lbs of Pasco, WA is 1-2.

Robert Rodriguez stopped Abel Soriano in the opening round of a scheduled six round fight featuring undefeated bantamweights.

In round one, Rodriguez dropped Soriano with a straight left to the body. Moments later, a barrage of punches that was finihed by a right hook made Soriano take a knee. Soriano was cut over his left eye, but that would not matter as another straight left put Soriano down for a 3rd and final time at 2:59.

Rodriguez, 119.7 lbs of Riverside, CA is 9-0-1 with five knockouts. Soriano, 119.8 lbs of Bellvue, NE is 10-1.

In a battle of undefeated junior welterweights, Israel Mercado won a six-round unanimous decision over Adrian Valdovinos.

Mercado, 136.6 lbs of Pomona, CA won by scores of 60-54 twice and 59-55 and is now 8-0. Valdovinos, 137.2 lbs of Hanford, CA is 5-1-1.

Wendy Toussaint won a eight-round unanimous decision over Isaiah Jones in a middleweight fight.

Toussaint, 156.4 lbs of Huntington, NY won by scores of 80-72 and 79-73 twice, and is now 12-0. Jones, 157.2 lbs of Detroit, MI is 9-3.

Undefeated, Haitian born, Long Island super welterweight WENDY “HAITIAN FIRE” TOUSSAINT (11-0 5KO’s) has been making a name for himself in the tri-state area since his pro-debut at Star Boxing’s “Rockin’ Fights” series.

Now, the 28-year old Toussaint will lace them up in Las Vegas for the first time in his toughest test to date, against Detroit’s ISIAH JONES (9-2 3KO’s). The bout will take place on the undercard of Toussaint’s fellow Long Island sparring partner and Star Boxing stablemate, #4 world rated (WBO) light heavyweight, JOE “THE BEAST” SMITH JR.’s (25-3 2KO’s) WBO World Title Eliminator against #3 world rated (WBO) light heavyweight, ELEIDER “STORM” ALVAREZ (25-1).

Toussaint has found dynamite in his hands as of late, winning five of his last six bouts by knockout. This past February, Toussaint took on the always tough Jermaine Corley at The Paramount. With his full arsenal on display, Toussaint disposed Corley via second round TKO after a vicious uppercut, followed by a right hand.

New York, February 29, 2020–Star Boxing’s “Rockin’ Fights” series was yet again a thriller. Boxing fans around the world were treated to a sensational night of fights from start to finish at the sold-out Paramount, in Huntington, Long Island. Long Island’s, NABA Super Lightweight Champion, CLETUS “THE HEBREW HAMMER” SELDIN (now 25-1 21KO’s) and LUIS FLOREZ (now 25-16 21KO’s) fought an electric battle. Seldin came out swinging, in classic “Hebrew Hammer” fashion. Florez, a late replacement, was able to weather the early Seldin storm, and settle in for what would be a gritty seven rounds. Seldin continued his come forward attack, controlling the action, while Florez attempted to counter with bombs, using his length and reach advantage to keep Seldin at bay.

In the 6-round, a vicious cut opened over the left eye of Florez, turning the already competitive fight into a bloodbath. Pinning the Colombian in the corner, Seldin landed a massive right hand that sent blood gushing. As Seldin continued the onslaught putting together combinations to both the head and the body, Florez’s cut worsened and the effect of Seldin’s relentless pressure on Florez was evident. Referee Al LoBianco had seen enough, calling a halt to the action at the 1:11 mark in the 7th round. With the victory Seldin defended his NABA title and improves to 25-1 (21KO’s).

Seldin had this to say about the victory, “I want to thank you all for coming out. This guy was a short notice, tough dude. My trainer said you have to dig deep and stay in his face and that’s what I did. That guy [Florez] can take a punch. Let’s get to the next one, let’s go.”

In the co-main event, world rated heavyweight CARLOS TAKAM (now 38-5-1 28KO’s) went to battle with Brazilian, FABIO MALDONADO (26-4 25KO’S). Takam established himself as the superior skilled fighter from the opening bell, but Maldonado, to his credit, was a warrior, eating shots, and waving on Takam to bring more. Takam’s game plan was clear, attack the body and work his way up. In the 5th, Takam landed three consecutive thudding body shots that even had the sold-out crowd groaning in pain. Takam dominated the fight with a commanding performance, winning by unanimous decision with scores of 100-89 (x2), 100-90. Takam improves to 38-5 1 (28KO’s).

Takam was direct in speaking about his victory, “Thank you all for the support. We keep on going!”

ALEX “EL TORO” VARGAS (now 6-0 1KO) took a step up against veteran ANTONIO SANCHEZ (now 6-9-1 3KO’s) in a 6-round welterweight bout. The rowdy crowd were on their feet as El Toro and Sanchez went to war over the full six rounds. The sensational final twenty seconds of round six saw both men trading shots at will, caution thrown to the wind and only the desire of victory left in the ring. WENDY “HAITIAN FIRE” TOUSSAINT (now 11-0 5KO’s) picked up exactly where he left off, with a devasting knockout victory over the extremely tough, JERMAINE “REAL STEEL” CORLEY (now 3-9-1 1KO). Corley has battled with top prospects, five of his last six being undefeated. Upsetting two of those prospects, Corley entered with same mindset, however Toussaint would have none of it, landing a devastating right hand that sent Corley to the canvas. To Corley’s credit he got up ready to fight, however referee LoBianco did not like what he saw, and called a stop to the fight at 1:52 in the 2nd of the scheduled 6-round fight. Toussaint improves to 11-0 (5KO’s).

Union electrician (local 3) BARKIM “BARBELIEVES” LOGAN (now 1-0 1KO) battered JACKSON DE SOUZA (now 0-2) over their 4-round fight, as Logan earns the victory in his pro-debut via 3rd round TKO.

PRINCE SLAUGHTER (now 1-0 1KO)impressed in his pro debut, defeating decorated amateur, AHMET “THE TURKISH WOLF” TUNCEL (now 0-1) by a 2nd round TKO. AFUNWA KING (now 2-1 1KO) defeated NADIM SALLOUM (now 1-1) by majority decision. (39-37 (x2) King, 38-38 draw).

The much anticipated “Rockin’ Fights” 38 double main event of hometown hero, CLETUS “THE HEBREW HAMMER” SELDIN (Shirley, Long Island 24-1 20KO’s) defending his NABA title against Colombian slugger, HUMBERTO MARTINEZ (33-9-2 25KO’S) as well as top, world rated heavyweight, CARLOS TAKAM (Henderson, Nevada 37-5-1 28KO’s) against heavy-handed combatant FABIO MALDONADO (Sao Paulo, Brazil 26-3 25KO’s), has created a buzz in the boxing world.

On the undercard, adding to the excitement, Star Boxing is pleased to announce that undefeated Long Island talents, Haitian born, WENDY “HAITIAN FIRE” TOUSSAINT (Huntington, Long Island, 10-0 4KO’s) and ALEX “EL TORO” VARGAS (Bellport, Long Island 5-0 1KO) will be featured on the undercard.

Toussaint is set to face the tough, JERMAINE “REAL STEEL” CORLEY in a scheduled 6-round super welterweight bout. Toussaint stands at 6’0″, and has recently found dynamite in his hands, winning four of his last five bouts by knockout. Toussaint is returning from a hand injury that has kept him out since June of 2019 and looks to pick up where he left off. Corley (Mt. Vernon, NY 3-8 1KO) has earned the respect of many based on his no-nonsense, brawler style. In eleven professional fights, Corley has fought nine undefeated fighters, Toussaint making ten, and has an overall opponent record of 54-5-1.

Toussaint is prepared to go to work on February 28, “I’m very happy to be getting back in the ring in front of my fans at The Paramount. I plan on putting on a great fight and look forward to having a very busy and productive, 2020.”

Undefeated Bellport product, and 2013 NY Golden Gloves champion, ALEX “EL TORO” VARGAS (5-0 1KO) has quickly made a name for himself at The Paramount. Following the best win of his career over then undefeated DASHAUN JOHNS (2-0) at “Rockin’ Fights” 37 in November, Vargas looks to continue his rise, when he takes on Puerto Rican veteran ANTONIO SANCHEZ (Toa Alta, Puerto Rico 6-8-3 3KO’s). Sanchez has become a pseudo gate keeper of the welterweight division has made a name for himself in tough fights with high level prospects in both the United States and Puerto Rico.

Vargas is ready to put on a show in front of his rowdy hometown fans, “I’m excited to return to the Paramount to fight in front of all of my people again. My opponent has a lot of experience but I’m working hard, staying focused and looking forward to getting another win.”
