Yoenli Hernández Set to Defend WBA Continental Latin America Title Against Kyrone Davis in Las Vegas

This May 31, the spotlight returns to the Michelob Ultra Arena in Las Vegas, where Cuban rising star Yoenli Hernández will put his WBA Continental Latin America Middleweight Title on the line against the battle-tested Kyrone Davis in a showdown that promises fireworks.

Hernández (7-0, 7 KOs) has been nothing short of sensational since turning pro. The undefeated Cuban slugger brings a perfect knockout record into the ring, showcasing concussive power and relentless pressure that has overwhelmed every opponent he’s faced. In his most recent outing, Hernández dismantled Ángel Ruiz Astorga with a fifth-round TKO, further cementing his status as one of the division’s hottest prospects.

Across the ring stands Davis (19-3-1, 6 KOs), a gritty and seasoned American contender who’s been in with the best, including a tough battle against former world champion David Benavidez. Davis boasts solid ring IQ, technical skill, and the kind of experience that could pose a real test for the still-developing Hernández.

Expect a clash of styles: Hernández will look to impose his power early, while Davis may try to drag the fight into deep waters, using movement, angles, and grit to frustrate the Cuban phenom.

With high stakes and contrasting arsenals, this bout could steal the show on fight night.

YOENLI FELICIANO HERNANDEZ: “I’M COMING TO SHOWCASE MY TALENT FOR THE WORLD & PUT CUBA ON TOP!”

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – May 22, 2025 – One of the most exciting fighters to come out of the current wave of Cuban boxers looking to overtake the sport, undefeated Yoenli Feliciano Hernandez will look to make his Cuban fans proud when he takes on top middleweight Kyrone “Shut It Down” Davis in a 10-round showdown as part of a four-fight PBC Championship Boxing on Prime Video lineup on Saturday, May 31 from Michelob ULTRA Arena at Mandalay Bay Resort and Casino in Las Vegas.

“I’m coming to showcase my talent for the world and put Cuba on top,” said Hernandez (7-0, 7 KOs). “The Cubans fans have always given me lots of love and support, and it truly motivates me to be the best. Because of them, I will become a world champion.”

In an era of rising Cuban stars that includes David Morrell Jr., Andy Cruz and others, Hernandez has looked to change the perception of Cuban fighters as risk-averse combatants. With knockout victories in all seven of his pro bouts, Hernandez has done his part so far.

“This new generation of Cuban fighters are doing everything possible to change any negative perception of Cuban fighters,” said Hernandez. “Nobody likes to take punches, but I’m a risk taker. I’ll show everyone that I can dish out the pain.”

After his first two pro fights took place in Mexico, Hernandez’s last five outings have come stateside, including his last bout that saw him burst onto the scene in Prime Video action on February 1. In that bout, Hernandez dominated the usually sturdy Angel Ruiz, eventually stopping him in round five. For Hernandez, his growth since turning pro has even surprised himself.

“The Yoenli that you see now is much more focused than when I had my first two pro fights,” said Hernandez. “Even since making my U.S. debut I’ve become more and more confident with every fight. I didn’t think I’d adapt so quickly, but I’m always evolving and progressing in the ring. We work hard in the gym and never stay still.”

In addition to the experience gained under the bright lights of fight night, Hernandez has been buoyed by rounds spent sparring with undisputed champion Canelo Alvarez. On top of what he’s learned in the ring, this time spent alongside the future Hall of Famer has helped him separate and remain focused once the bell rings.

“Canelo always told me that it’s essential to remain focused on your ultimate goal inside the gym,” said Hernandez. “Once you enter the gym, the only thing that matters is achieving your goals. Everything else stays on the other side of those doors. Keeping that in mind has really helped me continue to push my game to the highest level it’s ever been at.”

On May 31, Hernandez will look to truly announce himself as a world championship player at 160 pounds when he takes on the toughest test of his career to date. The 30-year-old Kyrone Davis (19-3-1, 6 KOs) most recently scored a career-best victory over the previously unbeaten Elijah Garcia, and is guided by renowned trainer Stephen “Breadman” Edwards, allowing Davis to soak in championship pedigree of his own as a stablemate of Interim WBA Super Middleweight Champion Caleb Plant.

“We always tailor our strategy based off our opponent, and we know that I’ll have to be at my best on May 31,” said Hernandez. “This is a great opportunity for me to show where I stand in the middleweight division against an opponent who’s got great experience. We’re doing everything we have to in order to leave no doubt that I’m ready for the best.”

Tickets for the live event are on sale now through AXS.com.

KYRONE DAVIS TRAINING CAMP QUOTES

LAS VEGAS – April 30, 2025 – Middleweight contender Kyrone “Shut It Down” Davis hopes to catapult himself into a world title shot when he faces undefeated WBA No. 1-ranked Middleweight Contender Yoenli Feliciano Hernandez in a 10-round showdown featured on a jam-packed four-fight PBC Championship Boxing on Prime Video (8 p.m. ET/5 p.m. PT) lineup on Saturday, May 31 from Michelob ULTRA Arena at Mandalay Bay Resort and Casino in Las Vegas.

The show will stream exclusively on Prime Video for all Prime members in the United States and select countries. Join today or start a free 30-day trial to catch the championship card.

The event is headlined by a pair of super middleweight stars co-headlining in separate attractions as Interim WBA Super Middleweight Titlist Caleb Plant takes on Mexican knockout artist Armando Reséndiz and undefeated two-division champion Jermall Charlo goes up against veteran contender Thomas “Cornflake” LaManna in a 10-round showdown.

“A win on May 31 will 100% let everyone know I need a title shot,” said Davis (19-3-1, 6 KOs). “Stop playing with my name. This is the second guy that’s ranked #1 by the WBA. So how many of these guys do I have to beat to get my shot? I want the big fights for the titles. I’ve fought a lot of world champions. I’m ready for the title.”

Davis has recently arrived in Las Vegas to continue training camp with the esteemed Stephen “Breadman” Edwards, who also trains Caleb Plant and who has led Davis’ corner for over a decade. As his stock in the sport ascends, Davis reflected on his relationship with Edwards and the advantage it gives him in the ring.

“I’ve been out here in Las Vegas for about a week so far and everything is going great,” said Davis. “Everything is growing and just getting better in general. ‘Breadman’ and I have been training together for 11 years, so there’s a lot of chemistry and learning together. When we started out, I was only 19-years-old, and he wasn’t a world champion trainer yet. It’s been a lot of coming up together and getting to know each other extremely well. Our communication is spot on. He knows how hard to push me, and when to tell me to turn it up and step on the gas. There have been a lot of learning curves and our careers have gotten better together.”

Entering this fight on a three-bout winning streak, Davis most recently delivered the best performance of his career as he defeated the then-unbeaten Elijah Garcia by decision in June 2024. After the fight was originally rescheduled for March before finally taking place in June, Davis’ victory allowed him to prove his standing in the middleweight division.

“I definitely needed it and wanted to win to prove some people wrong and show that I’m at a certain level,” said Davis. “I’ve taken the hard road sometimes. I haven’t always had the time to train properly. I came in on short notice several times. I came in on only 16 days’ notice for the David Benavidez fight. For my last fight, that was the first time in a while that I’ve had a chance to fully prepare, and I think it showed in my performance. It makes a huge difference and it’s a huge advantage to be able to fully and properly prepare. Sometimes you can go into camp with only two or three weeks’ notice of who you’re fighting. And even though you might have been in the gym for longer, you’re finding out about that specific opponent and able to prepare for them for only a short time. And sometimes I’ve had to take those kinds of risks in my career.”

On May 31, Davis will take on an accomplished Cuban amateur who’s quickly risen in the 160-pound division in Hernandez. Having most recently dominated Angel Ruiz on Prime Video in February, Hernandez will be highly-motivated to make a statement, just like Davis is. While Davis could put himself into world title contention, his focus remains on preparing for the best version of Hernandez and continuing to take on the toughest challenges he can get.

“I know he had a good amateur career and he’s a good fighter overall,” said Davis. “He seems like he knows what he’s doing and I expect him to be very motivated. “I’m coming to do whatever I have to do. I’d have loved the title shot, but I’m just fighting the best that’s available and the guy that’s going to be in front of me on May 31.”

In a pro career that now dates back over a decade. Davis appears now on the precipice of vaulting into the upper echelon of the sport. While some may be surprised by his rise, Davis believes he’s a sleeping giant who’s ready to take advantage of what’s in front of him.

“I feel like the media and oddsmakers don’t always know boxing,” said Davis, when asked about his underdog status heading into the Garcia fight. “Some people just look at records blindly. And even though they know better, they still don’t do better. In boxing, we know you can build up and pad your record.

“I have a loss against Davis Benavidez, but on only 16 days’ notice,” said Davis. “I have the draw with Anthony Dirrell, but I think I really won that fight. Vegas and the media don’t always see that side, and they just go by wins and losses. A lot of boxing insiders knew that was a real fight against Elijah Garcia though. You embrace whatever card you’re given. Whether I’m the underdog or the favorite, I embrace whatever I am. That’s the attitude I have in this game.”

**YOENLI FELICIANO HERNANDEZ VS. KYRONE DAVIS**

Two supremely-skilled combatants in the 160-pound division go toe-to-toe as Cuba’s Yoenli Feliciano Hernandez steps in against the rising Kyrone “Shut It Down” Davis in a 10-round middleweight battle.

Hernandez (7-0, 7 KOs) is yet another in a long line of sensational amateur fighters to come from the Cuban program, with his long resume before turning pro featuring a 2021 gold medal at AIBA World Boxing Championships. Originally from Camaguey, Cuba and now fighting out of Providence, Rhode Island, Hernandez turned pro in May 2022 with a pair of stoppage victories and continued to dominate his competition on his way to earning the rank of number one contender in the WBA. The 27-year-old returned in 2024 with four U.S. fights, including a stoppage of the veteran contender Alejandro Barrera in June and a TKO over the previously unbeaten Bryce Henry in October. Most recently, the frequent sparring partner of top light heavyweight David Morrell Jr. dominated Angel Ruiz on his way to a fifth-round TKO on February 1.

“We’re training very hard to face a difficult fighter in Kyrone Davis,” said Hernandez. “We have to adjust to his style and do everything that we can to come out with the victory on May 31. After this win, I’m ready for everyone at 160 or 168 pounds. Don’t miss this fight, because I’m here to change the narrative that Cuban fighters can’t be exciting world champions.”

The 30-year-old Davis (19-3-1, 6 KOs) earned a career best outing in his last fight that ran his winning-streak up to three, as he out boxed top middleweight Elijah Garcia on his way to a decision victory last June. Davis had previously picked up two victories in 2023, dominating Cristian Fabian Rios in January before scoring a unanimous decision over Cruse Stewart in December. Those victories came after a run that saw Davis battle two-time champion Anthony Dirrell to a draw in February 2021, before stepping in as a late replacement two fights later to drop a hard-fought contest against light heavyweight superstar David Benavidez. An amateur standout representing Wilmington, Delaware, Davis trains in Philadelphia under the tutelage of top trainer Stephen “Breadman” Edwards.

“Everything in training camp is going as planned and I can’t wait to get back in the ring on May 31,” said Davis. “I’m very confident in getting another win against a strong, good fighter. I can guarantee action and I really think our fight may steal the show.”

**ISAAC LUCERO VS. OMAR VALENZUELA**

Returning to fight stateside for the first time since his U.S. debut, Isaac Lucero will look to announce his presence as a contender in the stacked 154-pound division against fellow unbeaten Mexican contender Omar Valenzuela in their opening bout.

The 26-year-old Lucero (16-0, 12 KOs) turned pro in 2019 after an amateur career that saw him earn five national medals representing Mexico. Representing his native La Paz, Baja California Sur, Mexico, Lucero has stopped his last five opponents entering May 31, and also owns a pair of 10-round unanimous decision triumphs. In looking to make his U.S. takeover, Lucero has set up camp in Las Vegas, where he is trained by renowned coach Bob Santos. Most recently, Lucero scored a 10th-round TKO of Juan Ruiz last September

“I’m very thankful to my team for believing in me and helping me land this important opportunity,” said Lucero. “Being in Las Vegas to train has brought the best out of me and I feel like everything is coming together at the perfect time. I’m working with one of the best trainers in boxing in Bob Santos and his whole team. I know I need to be at my best, because this is a very important step in my journey to the world title.”

A native of Tijuana, Baja California, Mexico, Valenzuela (23-0, 20 KOs) will make his U.S. debut on May 31 after first turning pro in 2017. The 28-year-old has shown impressive knockout power, racking up an 87% KO rate and will enter his showdown against Lucero with eight consecutive stoppages under his belt. His last outing came in February, as he blasted out Angel Zavala in two rounds.

“I am very grateful for this opportunity to begin building my name against a quality opponent on a big stage,” said Valenzuela. “Lucero seems to be getting a lot of attention, but we’re both undefeated, so I’m excited to punch the freckles off his face. After this fight, they will be saying that I’m the next great fighter coming out of Mexico.”

Yoenlis Hernandez Set to Accelerate Towards World Title Glory with Warriors Boxing and Heavyweight Factory

TOLUCA, MX (December 6, 2023) – Unbeaten middleweight, Yoenlis Hernandez (2-0), one of the most decorated amateurs to ever come out of Cuba, is ready to take the professional boxing world by storm. He just signed a co-promotional deal with Warriors Boxing and Chris Lawrence’s Heavyweight Factory Promotions. He’ll be guided by manager Robert Valle who will handle all executive decisions.

Toluca, Mexico has become the new home for Hernandez, where he now trains under the mentorship of acclaimed boxing coach, Jacob “Panda” Majal, who also guides the corners of IBF Jr. Lightweight world champion Subriel Matias, IBF Bantamweight champion Emmanuel Rodriguez, and WBA #1 ranked super bantamweight contender Kevin Gonzalez, to name a few.

“I am beyond excited for the opportunities that lie ahead,” expressed Hernandez. “Training under ‘Panda’ Majal’s guidance has been very instrumental, and the co-promotion with Warriors Boxing and Heavyweight Factory is a testament to their belief in my abilities. I’m grateful for Robert Valle’s management as we take the next steps toward a world title.”

Training in Toluca, Mexico, is something Hernandez appreciates being that the elevation is over 8,000 feet. In addition, training alongside world champions is helping him create the mindset of a true winner. He plans to continue living in Mexico where he enjoys the vibrant boxing community and thrives in the high-altitude training environment.

“Living and training in Mexico have been incredible,” continued Hernandez, who captured Gold at the 2021 AIBA World Boxing Championships. “Toluca’s elevation over 8000 feet has elevated my conditioning and skill set. I am eager to build a strong fanbase in Mexico while pursuing my dream of becoming a world champion.”

Hernandez is poised to ascend rapidly in pursuit of a world title as he will jump on the fast track to a world title. Hernandez’s next bout is scheduled for January 20, 2024, where he will fight for a WBA regional title in a highly anticipated bout at the popular Hard Rock Cafe in Hollywood, Florida. This pivotal moment marks a significant step in his journey towards a world title fight.

“I am honored to bring my talents to the ring at the Hard Rock Café, and I intend to put on a spectacular show for the fans,” added Hernandez. “Fighting for a regional title will help me with the rankings and solidify myself as a top contender in the middleweight division. I’m grateful to me team for everything they do for me. I won’t let them down.”

Luis DeCubas Sr. of Warriors Boxing, the person responsible for establishing Hernandez in Mexico, believes he has the talent to follow in the footsteps of recent fighters making a name in boxing at the world class level.

“We have plans to put Hernandez in some challenging fights right now,” stated DeCubas Sr. “He had an incredible amateur career and he’s ready dominate in the pros. Like David Morrell Jr. and Yoenis Tellez, he’ll be fighting at the world class level from here on out. Also, I have to mention that the Hard Rock Café will be his home, as they have big plans to build him in South Florida, where there is a high population of Cubans.”

“I’m excited about Hernandez’ future,” manager Robert Valle stated. “We have a great team in place and I’m confident we can guide him to a world title in the next year or two. He has a great attitude and his coached by “Panda” one of the best young trainers in boxing.

“We have big plans to promote some great fighters and Hernandez is at the top,” said Chris Lawrence of Heavyweight Factory Promotions. “Leon Margules and Luis Sr. are veterans of the game and have guided many fighters to become world champions. I’m happy to be co-promoting with some legendary figures in boxing.”
