NASHVILLE, TN – Undefeated lightweight prospect Nikolay Shvab (12-0, 7 KOs) made a successful CES Boxing debut last night, winning a majority decision over seasoned veteran Andrew Rodgers (9-15-3, 3 KOs).  The 6-round bout headlined a 7-bout card at the Texas Troubadour Theatre promoted by Jimmy Adams’ Country Box Promotions.

Shvab, a 30-year-old Kazakh native based in Florida, was making his CES Boxing debut after a 20-month layoff.  The southpaw began boxing at 8 years old, amassing an amateur record that includes over 150 bouts.

The Miami Beach resident, who trains out of the 5th Street Gym that Muhammad Ali made famous, controlled the first few rounds behind a disciplined jab.  Fighting for the 6th time in 2024, the orthodox Rodgers looked to counter with straight right hands.  The 32-year-old from Indiana is much better than his record shows, as he has tested the likes of former WBC interim Super Lightweight Champion Gary Antuanne Russell and lightweight prospects Nahir Albright and Alejandro Paulino over his 9-year career.

After a competitive first 3 rounds, Rodgers won round 4 with clean right hands.  Shvab regained momentum in round 5, connecting with a right hook that appeared to cause Rodgers to touch the canvas with his right glove.  Rather than call a knockdown, the referee ruled it a slip and wiped off Rodgers gloves. The unfazed Shvab sealed the victory in round 6 behind his sharp jab and compact counter right hooks to the body as the two traded until the final bell.

Judge Jacob Nevins saw the bout 57-57, overruled by scores of 58-56 and 59-55 for Shvab, who is certain to be much more active in 2025 as he climbs the rankings with help from CES Boxing.
